As announced earlier by the makers, the eagerly awaited trailer of ‘Mamangam’ has just been released online. The trailer, as expected, is visually stunning with glimpses of the huge set pieces and some fierce action sequences. It seems like at the core of it all is a strong emotional quotient.

‘Mamangam’ directed by Padmakumar is made on a huge scale with massive production values, star-studded cast and a strong technical crew. Along with Mammootty, actors like Unni Mukundan, Prachi Tehlan, Sudev Nair, Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Suresh Krishna and Inyea will be seen in major roles.

‘Mamangam’, as per the makers, is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from true events. Sajeev Pillai penned the script originally, which was later adapted by Shanker Ramakrishnan. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya,on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.

Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film, which is slated to hit screens on November 21. Apart from Malayalam, the film is releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well.

Official: Pawan Kalyan to star in ‘Pink’ Telugu remake

After a successful remake in Tamil as ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ (NKP), acclaimed Hindi film ‘Pink’ is now getting a Telugu version. Pawan Kalyan will be essaying the lead role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original and Ajith in the Tamil version. Sriram Venu will be directing the film and Boney Kapoor, who also produced ‘NKP’, is funding it jointly with Dil Raju.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh broke the news by tweeting,

BIGGG NEWS… After remaking #Pink in #Tamil, Boney Kapoor joins hands with Dil Raju to remake #Pink in #Telugu… The #Telugu remake will star Pawan Kalyan… Directed by Sriram Venu… Pawan Kalyan was last seen in #Agnyaathavaasi [2018].

‘Pink’ directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is a social-drama that had Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang in lead roles. The movie discussed sensitive issues about women’s rights and dignity. It won widespread critical acclaim and even bagged the National film award for Best Film on other social issues.

The Tamil version ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, which got released earlier this year, was slightly adapted to suit the sensibilities of the native audience. While Ajith reprised the role played by Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan did an additional character as Ajith’s wife. Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Andrea Tariang and Rangaraj Pandey did the other major roles. Critics rated ‘NKP’ as a faithful remake of the original and it also had a good run at the box office.

Rajinikanth to be conferred with Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI 2019 award

The 50th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will be held in Goa from November 20-28. It has just been announced that superstar Rajinikanth will be conferred with the Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI 2019 award. Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar made the big announcement through his social media handle. His tweet reads,

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades, I am happy to announce that the award for the ICON OF GOLDEN JUBILEE OF #IFFI2019 is being conferred on cine star Shri S Rajnikant.

Rajinikanth, who is one of the most popular figures in Indian cinema, was previously honored with the Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year at IFFI in 2014.

On the work front, Rajinikanth recently finished shooting for his cop-flick ‘Darbar’, directed by AR Murugadoss. The superstar has also signed his next with Siva, which is scheduled to begin by the end of this year.

Dulquer Salmaan to release the second look of ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’

The second look poster of ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ will be released by Dulquer Salmaan tomorrow (November 3). The poster will be out at 10 PM through the star’s official social media handle. The film written and directed by debutant Jenith Kachappilly stars Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Althaf Salim and Shabareesh Varma in the lead roles. Rajesh Augustine is producing the movie in association with Captian Bipin Rajendran, Sunil Kumar Vakeel and Srijith Babu.

‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ (MVV) was initially titled as ‘Mandhakini’ but the makers later changed it to avoid confusion with films having similar titles like ‘Mandaram’ and ‘Dakini’. The film marks the reunion of the ‘Premam’ gang of actors – Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Althaf Salim and Shabareesh Varma – and it will be interesting to see how their rapport works on screen this time.

The technical crew of ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ comprises of cinematographer Shinoj P Ayyappan, editor Appu Bhattathiri and art director Manu Jagadh.

Karthi’s latest release ‘Kaithi’ has entered its second week of theatrical run and continues to do well at all centres. The film is nearing the Rs 50 crore mark from its worldwide gross and has already been declared a hit. The film is doing particularly well outside Tamil Nadu in states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

Since Karthi enjoys a big fan base in the Telugu speaking states, ‘Kaithi’ was dubbed and released in Telugu as ‘Khaidi’. The film has emerged as a huge success there. Recently, Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu had tweeted in praise of the film. He called it a product of new age filmmaking and since it is devoid of songs and other usual commercial elements, Mahesh sees it as a welcome change. His tweet reads,

Mammootty’s ‘Peranbu’ continues to go places. The Ram directorial has been selected for screening at the 11th New Generations Independent Indian Film Festival, Frankfurt, Germany. Before its theatrical release in February this year, ‘Peranbu’ was screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR), Shanghai International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). It was recently selected for screening at the Korean Indian Film Festival, which was hosted by the embassy of India in Seoul, Indian Cultural Center Seoul-Busan and Korean Film Archive.

‘Peranbu’ tells the story of an affectionate father, Amudhavan, and his spastic teenage daughter, Paapa. Mammootty’s finely measured performance as the doting father whose subtle emotional outbursts that come from his helplessness was unanimously appreciated. Sadhana, who played the daughter’s part also received praise from all corners. Both the actors were expected to be top contenders for the National awards, but were unfortunately snubbed which lead to many expressing their displeasure.

Salman Khan’s new film ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ has been launched today. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the film is an action-packed cop flick that follows Radhe’s mission as an under cover cop. For the uninitiated, Radhe is the character name of Salman from his 2009 blockbuster film ‘Wanted’, also directed by Prabhu Deva.

‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ is not exactly a sequel to the 2009 film. It is conceived as a franchise model film that will feature Salman playing an undercover cop who poses as a bhai to crack the underworld nexus. It is co-produced by Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Atul Agnihotri under the banners Salman Khan Films, Sohail Khan Productions and Reel Life Productions Private Limited respectively.

‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ had Disha Patani as the female lead. Jackie Shroff and Randeep Hooda will also be seen in major roles. Full fledged shoot for the film will begin on November 4 and is scheduled for theatrical release on 22 May 2020 during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

Meanwhile, Salman’s ‘Dabaang 3’, the third installment in the Chulbul Pandey series is gearing up for release on December 20. Prabhu Deva is directing this film as well.

This Christmas season promises to be a battle of the heavyweights in Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal’s ‘Big Brother’, Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’, Prithviraj’s ‘Driving Licence’ and Fahadh Fassil’s ‘Trance’ are the four films that were originally scheduled for release in December. However, latest reports suggest that ‘Big Brother’ has been postponed to January end as shoot got delayed. An exciting clash between the two Big Ms, Mohanlal and Mammootty, has hence been averted.

‘Big Brother’, written and directed by Siddique is a family-oriented thriller film. Anoop Menon, Sarjano Khalid, Honey Rose, Arbaaz Khan,Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Tini Tom, Siddique, Janardhanan, Chemban Vinod Jose and many others are are also part of the cast. If reports are to be believed, the film will be hitting screens on January 30, 2020.

‘Shylock’ directed by Ajai Vasudev is an out and out mass entertainer. The film is being made as a bilingual with the Tamil version titled as ‘Kuberan’. Scripted by Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the film has Raj Kiran, Meena, Bibin George, Baiju and Kalabhavan Shajohn in major roles.

Dhanesh Anand, who grabbed attention with his menacing act in Lilli, has bagged a role in Tovino Thomas’ upcoming film Forensic. It must be noted that the youngster’s performance in Lilli was widely appreciated. Forensic is his second film after making his debut with Lilli. He is also playing a brief part in Anoop Menon’s directorial debut King Fish, that is gearing up for release.

Forensic is directed by 7th Day scriptwriter Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. The film has Tovino playing a character named Samuel John Kaattookaran, who is a medico legal advisor working in the Kerala Police’s Forensic Science Lab. The two directors have also scripted the film jointly based on some real life incidents.
