Shah Rukh Khan to remake Asuran in Hindi?

Last day, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his birthday and, like always, wishes flew in from all across the globe. A party was hosted by him for selected invitees and two notable guests from the South were Tamil filmmakers Vetrimaaran and Atlee. While Atlee and SRK teaming up is almost a certainty, the photo with Vetrimaaran has fueled a fresh set of speculations.

There are reports about Shah Rukh Khan watching Vetrimaaran’s recently released ‘Asuran’ and being highly impressed by it. Apparently, the star has plans to remake the film but it is not sure if he will be starring in it. SRK’s close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar had also watched ‘Asuran’ and tweeted in praise of it. Karan had written,

‘Asuran’ starring Dhanush and Manju Warrier has emerged as a big success, both critically and commercially. The film is already being remade in Telugu with Venkatesh in the lead. It will be really huge if SRK gives his nod to star in the Hindi version. Let’s wait for an official word.

Soorarai Pottru release postponed!

Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ was initially planned as a Christmas release but the latest we hear is that the film has been postponed. It will be hitting screens only by next summer. There are also contrasting reports about the film eyeing a Pongal release but the makers are yet to confirm this. It is a film eagerly awaited not just by the fans but the general audience as well. Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame is directing the film.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is an ambitious film that is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Sudha Kongara and Shalini Usha Nair have jointly scripted the film. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali plays the female lead. The film’s first look poster will be out on November 10.

Veterans like Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff and Mohan Babu will be seen in prominent roles. The film has cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy, music composed by GV Prakash and stunts handled by Hollywood based action choreographer Greg Powell.

Raghava Lawrence to star in Rangasthalam Tamil remake

Raghava Lawrence, who has been successfully churning out hits with the ‘Kanchana’ series, is set to star in the Tamil remake of ‘Rangasathalam’. Lingusamy will be directing this film. An official announcement with full details regarding the entire cast and crew will be made shortly.

‘Rangasthalam’ is a period action drama written and directed by hit maker Sukumar. Ram Charan played the lead role in the film and Samantha was paired with him. Set in a rural area in the 1980s, it narrates the story of two brothers Chitti Babu and Kumar Babu who oppose the local government body and the corrupt co-operative society led by the village’s president Phanindra Bhupathi. Aadhi Pinisetty played the brother’s part in the film.

‘Rangasthalam’ got positive reviews the critics who were particularly appreciative of Sukumar’s writing and the performances of the ensemble cast. Ram Charan’s performance in the film was widely appreciated and is considered to be his career best. It will be quite a task for Lawrence and Lingusamy to live up to the original and replicate a similar success.

Though Lingusamy is known for helming mass entertainers like ‘Run’, ‘Sandakozhi’ and ‘Paiyaa’, he has not been in the best of form of late. After the debacle of ‘Anjaan’ in 2014, it took the director another four years to come up with his next – ‘Sandakozhi 2’.

Let’s wait and see how he adapts ‘Rangasthalam’ in Tamil.

Ajagajandharam: Vineeth Viswam and Kichu Tellus script Antony Varghese’s next

We were among the first to report about Antony Varghese starring in a film titled ‘Ajagajandharam’. ‘Swathanthryam Ardharthriyil’ fame Tinu Pappachan is directing the film. It is scripted by ‘Angamaly Diaries’ (AD) actors Vineeth Viswam and Kichu Tellus. Vineeth, a former associate of Ranjith Sankar, played the part of Bheeman in AD while Kichu essayed the role of Pork Varkey. ‘Ajagajandharam’ is their first attempt in scripting a film.

Along with Antony Varghese, the cast also includes Chemban Vinod Jose, Arjun Ashokan and Sabumon in major roles. Tito Wilson, Sinoj Varghese, Lukman, Sudhi Koppa, Jaffer Idukki, Rajesh Sharma and many others will be appearing in supporting roles.

‘Ajagajandharam’ has Jinto George as the cinematographer, Shameer Muhammed as the editor and Renganaath Ravee as the sound designer. Jakes Bejoy will be composing the songs and background score will be done by Justin Varghese. Immanuel Joseph and Ajith Thalapilliyum are producing the film under the banner of Silver Bay Studios.

Four years after the success of ‘Adi Kapyare Koottamani’, the trio of Neeraj Madhav, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Aju Varghese are coming together for a new film titled ‘Pathira Kurbana’. Its title poster was released last evening in social medias. Just like their previous film, this one is also expected to be an out and out fun entertainer. Vinay Jose, who has previous assisted in ‘Love Action Drama’ and ‘Goodalochana’ is making his directorial debut with this film. He has also penned the script based on Dhyan’s story.

The technical crew of ‘Pathira Kurbana’ comprises of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj, music director Shaan Rahman, editor Rathin Radhakrishnan, costume designer Stephy Xavior and art director Ajay Mangad. Reneesh Kayamkulam and Suneer Sulaiman are jointly producing the film under the banner of Blueline Movies. Funtastic Films, headed by Aju Varghese and Vishak Subramaniam, will be releasing the film. Details regarding when shoot begins are not yet known.

Gautham Menon’s ambitious spy thriller ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead has been in the making for a long time now. For the last few months, there have been no updates about it and in the meanwhile the director also moved on to other projects. This even lead to talks that ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ has been shelved. Finally, Menon has come out clarifying that the film is very much on with only 60 more days of post-production left.

His latest tweet reads,

According to Gautham Menon, ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ revolves around 10 agents who work in disguise to protect and safeguard the nation. They are responsible for national security and to protect it from foreign forces. Vikram heads the 10 member team which includes actors like Parthiban, Simran, Divyadarshini aka DD, Radhika Sarath Kumar, Munna and Vamsi Krishna. Ritu Varma and Aishwarya Rajesh play the two female leads.

‘Bigil’ actress Reba Monica John joins Forensic team!

Shoot for Tovino Thomas’ new film ‘Forensic’ is currently under progress. The film is being directed by ‘7th Day’ scriptwriter Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. Tovino plays the lead character named Samuel John Kaattookaran, who is a medico legal advisor working in the Kerala Police’s Forensic Science Lab. Mamta Mohandas plays the female lead in the film.

Latest addition to the cast is Reba Monica John, who is fresh from the tremendous success of ‘Bigil’. Reba played a very important role as an acid attack survivor in the Vijay starrer and her performance was widely appreciated. ‘Forensic’ is her fourth Malayalam film. She made her debut with ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’ and followed it up with ‘Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam’ and a cameo appearance in ‘Mikhael’.

Forensic science is an area least explored in Malayalam cinema. Akhil Paul and Anas Khan have scripted the film based on some real life inspired events. Saiju Kurup, Giju John, Dhanesh Anand, Anil Murali and many others are also part of the supporting cast. DOP Akhil George, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Shameer Muhammed form the film’s core technical crew.

‘Forensic’ is being produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

As informed earlier, the second look poster of ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ has been released by actor Dulquer through his official social media handle. The film written and directed by debutant Jenith Kachappilly stars Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Althaf Salim and Shabareesh Varma in the lead roles. All the four actors along with Shiyas feature in the poster. Rajesh Augustine is producing it in association with Captian Bipin Rajendran, Sunil Kumar Vakeel and Srijith Babu.

‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ (MVV) is touted to be a fun entertainer, the story of which happens over one night. The film marks the reunion of the ‘Premam’ gang of actors – Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Althaf Salim and Shabareesh Varma – and it will be interesting to see how their rapport works on screen this time. Sethulakshmi, Basil Joseph, Sidhartha Siva, Baiju Santhosh and a foreign actress named, Irene Mihalkovich are also part of the cast.

On Air: Dileep to play a journalist in Joshiy’s next

Dileep has signed a new film with veteran Joshiy and it has reportedly been titled as ‘On Air’. It is said to be a media-based film on the lines of the director’s own superhit film ‘Run Baby Run’. Dileep will be seen playing the role of a journalist in this film. It is scripted by newcomers Arun and Niranjan. Sajin Jaffar, who was a former associate of Asif Ali in his production ventures, is funding this film independently under the banner of Jaffer’s Productions.

Joshiy, after a series of duds, made a strong comeback this year with ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’. The film recently crossed its 100th day of theatrical run. With its huge success, the director proved his ability to helm mass entertainers.
‘On Air’, his new film with Dileep is also expected to a compete entertainer. The two have previously worked together in ‘Lion’, ‘July 4’, ‘Twenty 20’, ‘Runway’ and ‘Avatharam’.

There are also talks about their superhit film ‘Runway’ getting a sequel as ‘Valayar Paramasivam’, but a confirmation regarding the same is yet to be made.

Mammootty already has a number of projects lined up for the couple of years. Despite that, the star has given his nod for a new project and that too with immediate dates. Debutant Jofin T Chacko will be directing this film, which we hear is a thriller. Apparently, Mammootty was highly impressed by Jofin’s script and agreed to do it immediately thereby pushing his earlier planned films. More details regarding this project are expected to be out soon.

Mammootty is currently shooting for ‘One’, a political film directed by Santhosh Viswanath. Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the film that has the star in a Chief Minister’s role. After the completion of ‘One’, Mammootty is likely to join Jofin’s film. Anto Joseph is producing the film, which is yet to be titled.

‘CBI 5’, ‘Ameer’, ‘Bilal’, an untitled film with Sathyan Anthikad are some of Mammootty’s other upcoming projects. Stay tuned for more details.
