Kaanumbol song from Vikrithi grabs attention; Trending in YouTube

‘Vikrithi’ starring Suraj Venjaramoodu and Soubin Shahir in the lead roles is gearing up for release next month. After the positive response for the trailer, the makers had recently released a video song online. The track titled ‘Kaanumbol’ features the budding romance Soubin and his pair, played by a talented newcomer. The song has grabbed attention in social medias and has already fetched over 4 lakh views online. It is also in the trending list in YouTube.

‘Vikrithi’ scripted by Ajeesh P Thomas and directed by Emcy Joseph is a film inspired from a real life incident. Couple of years back, when the Kochi metro started functioning, there was an incident when a middle-aged man was seen sleeping casually on the metro seats. Assuming him to be a drunkard, some of the fellow passengers took his photos and shared it online. It soon went viral but only to be later learnt that the man was hearing-impaired and had lied down on the seat as he was tired. When news came out about his real condition, it was a moment of big collective embarrassment for the Malayali social media circle.

‘Vikrithi’ is inspired from this incident. In the film, Suraj Venjaramoodu plays the disabled person’s role and Soubin essays the role of the guy who took his photos. From the trailer, we could make out that Suraj’s character is a family man living with his wife and kids while Soubin’s character is a Gulf returnee looking for a suitable partner. The film looks highly promising and seems to be one of those slice-of-life flicks with a feel good element in it.

A D Sreekumar, Ganesh Menon and Lakshmi Warrier are jointly producing ‘Vikrithi’ under the banner of Cut 2 Create Pictures. Century Films will be presenting the movie in Kerala.

Prithviraj hints about the possibility of a sequel to Ranam!

Prithviraj’s ambitious crossover film ‘Ranam’ aka ‘The Detroit Crossing’ was a hugely hyped film that didn’t quite live up to the expectations. Written and directed by debutant Nirmal Sahadev, the film told the troubled lives of a bunch of Malayalis and a Sri Lankan Tamilian drug lord living in Detroit. The attempt to make a crossover film was appreciated by many but it didn’t work overall, majorly due to the lack of proper substance.

In an intriguing Instagram post today, Prithviraj has written that he is tempted to make a sequel to ‘Ranam’. Apparently, Nirmal Sahadev’s original vision of the film could not be brought on screen, reasons for the same, however, are not yet known. Sharing a clip from Ranam, the actor has written,

Knowing what Nirmal Sahadev’s original vision was, and also knowing how much of the script we couldn’t film, sometimes I’m tempted to attempt a sequel to what Aadhi in Ranam could have been.

It will be interesting to see if Prithviraj is daring enough to do a sequel to ‘Ranam’. Let’s wait and see.
