Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Jallikattu teaser is here!

The hugely awaited teaser of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikattu’ has been released online. After the recently held premier at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), expectations for this movie has gone sky high. It received widespread appreciated and several forums have rated it among the top 10 genre films of this year. Some have even compared it to the likes of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’ and ‘The Mad Max Fury’.

‘Jallikattu’ is actually based on S Hareesh’s short story ‘Maoist’. The original story discusses about the maoist situation and a person’s right to freedom, from the perspective of two buffaloes. Taking the crux out of the story, Hareesh along with R Jayakumar have developed a screenplay that explores the beastly side of man. It is set in a remote village in Kerala where a buffalo escapes and causes a frenzy of ecstatic violence.

Antony Varghese, Santhy Balachandran, Chemban Vinod Jose and Sabumon play major roles in the film. Its technical crew comprises of DOP Girish Gangadharan, music director Prashanth Pillai, editor Deepu Joseph and sound designer Renganaath Ravee. The film is scheduled to have a worldwide theatrical release in the first week of October.

First song from Ganagandharvan to be released on Sunday!

As ‘Ganagandharvan’ gets ready for release, first single from the movie has been planned to be released on Sunday (September 22). Deepak Dev has composed the songs in the film. The Ramesh Pisharody directorial is touted to be a fun filled entertainer that has Mammootty playing the lead role of a ‘ganamela’ singer named Kalasadhan Ullas.

Pisharody and Hari Nair have jointly scripted ‘Ganagandharvan’. Debutante Vanditha Manoharan plays the female lead. The film also has an elaborate supporting cast which includes Mukesh, Manoj K Jayan, Suresh Krishna, Johny Antony, Abu Salim, Salim Kumar, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Hareesh Kanaran, Ashokan, Innocent and Maniyanpilla Raju, Kalabhavan Prajod, Sunil Sukhada and Arya among others.

Veteran DOP Azhagappan and editor Lijo Paul handle the technical aide. The film is being produced jointly by Ichais Productions, Anto Joseph Film Company and Ramesh Pisharody Entertainments.

Shane Nigam’s debut Tamil film titled as Spa?

We were among the first to report about Shane Nigam debuting in Tamil film industry. The star first revealed it in an exclusive interview with Onlookers Media. His maiden Tamil film will be directed by Seenu Ramasamy. As per latest reports, the film has been titled as ‘Spa’. Olympia films Ambeth Kumar will be producing it.

Shane Nigam has pinned high hopes on the film. It is said to be the story of a Chennai based youngster who falls for a girl from the North East, working in a spa. Shoot will start in November and the makers have planned to film extensively in Chennai, Pondicherry and in some parts of Meghalaya.

Seenu Ramasamy is a National award winning filmmaker, known for his films like ‘Thenmerku Paruvakaatru’, ‘Neerparavai’ and ‘Dharma Durai’. His second film ‘Thenmerku Paruvakaatru’ won three National Film Awards, including the award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He is currently working on the post-production of ‘Maamanithan’ that has Vijay Sethupathi in the lead.

Vijay will be seen as a college going youngster in Bigil

Last day, the grand audio launch of event was held in Chennai. Thousands of Vijay fans attended the event, making it as one of the biggest ever launch events in Kollywood. Almost all the cast and crew members of ‘Bigil’ attended the event and shared their expectations on the film. While speaking at the function, Ramana Girivasan, the dialogue writer of the film, revealed that Vijay will be seen as a college going youngster in it. It was an exciting tidbit as nothing much was known about the film’s storyline or Vijay’s part in it. Apparently, the star plays a dual role as a gangster father and a football enthusiast son, who later becomes a coach.

The Atlee directorial is a mass entertainer with woman’s football at its crux. Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Induja, Varsha Bollamma, Reba Monica John, Daniel Balaji and Anand Raj are also part of the cast. ‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu has cranked the camera and music is by maestro AR Rahman. All the songs from the movie have been released online.

‘Bigil’ is scheduled for a grand Diwali release in October.The much-awaited teaser will be released in a couple of weeks time.

Sujith Vaassudev not to direct Tovino’s Forensic

We had earlier reported about Tovino Thomas teaming up with cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Sujith Vaassudev for a new film titled ‘Forensic’. The film has been scripted by writers Akhil Paul and Anas Khan after being by some real life inspired events. ‘Forensic’ was initially announced as the reunion of the ‘7th Day’ trio of Sujith Vaassudev, Tovino Thomas and Akhil Paul.

However, right before the start of shoot, director Sujith Vaassudev has opted out of the project. Instead, the writer duo will be directing the film. The exact reason for Sujith pulling out of ‘Forensic’ is not yet known, but he is currently busy working on the Telugu film ‘Miss India’, starring Keerthi Suresh in the lead.

‘Forensic’ meanwhile is getting ready to go on floors next month. The makers have signed Mamta Mohandas as the female lead. The actress, who is known to be selective with her projects, will be sharing screen space with Tovino for the first time. Saiju Kurup, Giju John, Reba Monica John and many others are also part of the cast. Cinematographer Akhil George, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Shameer Muhammed form the core technical crew.

‘Forensic’ is being produced by Navis Xavier and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions in association with Raju Malliath of Ragam Movies.

Sabumon plays the antagonist in Jayasurya’s Thrissur Pooram

Shoot for ‘Thrissur Pooram’ is currently progressing at a brisk pace. It is being directed by Rajesh Mohanan and is produced by Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House. Music director Ratheesh Vega is debuting as scriptwriter with this film, which is touted to be an action-packed mass entertainer. It has Jayasurya playing a larger-than-life character named Pullu Giri. ‘Big Boss’ fame Sabumon Abdusamad plays the villain in the film. Though he has acted in quite a few films, ‘Thrissur Pooram’ will have Sabu in a fierce negative character.

‘Thrissur Pooram’ is shaping up as the most expensive film in Jayasurya’s career. As per the makers, the film is structured just like the real Pooram festival. It is divided into several chapters each signifying the various stages of the festival. Swathi Reddy reportedly plays the female lead and she will be seen as Jayasurya’s wife in the film. Vijay Babu, Gayathri Arun, Mallika Sukumaran, Manu, Manikuttan, Murugan and Sreejith Ravi are also part of the supporting cast.

‘Thrissur Pooram’ has cinematography by veteran RD Rajasekhar and edits by Deepu Joseph. Besides scripting, Ratheesh Vega is handling the music department as well.

Kunchacko Boban-Jis Joy film scripted by Bobby and Sanjay

Kunchacko Boban is set to team up with director Jis Joy next. Writer duo Bobby and Sanjay are scripting the film, shoot for which is scheduled to begin shortly. Listin Stephen is producing the film under the banner of Magic Frames. The makers had recently released a casting call seeking for the child actors resembling Kunchacko Boban’s face. They were on the look for kids between the age group of 4-10.

Director Jis Joy’s last two films, ‘Sunday Holiday’ and ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum,’ both starring Asif Ali, were big hits. So expectations will naturally be high on his next. This is also his first outing with Kunchacko Boban and Bobby-Sanjay.

However, the actor and writers have successfully collaborated previously in films like ‘Traffic’, ‘School Bus’ and ‘How Old Are You’. So they must be sharing a good rapport that will hopefully reflect positively on their new film. More details regarding the project is expected to expected to be formally announced soon.

Jayaram starrer ‘Pattabhiraman’ continues to do well in screens in Kerala. Releasing on August 23, the film opened to positive reviews that highlighted the relevant social message discussed in it. Despite a slew of releases including the big star films that reached screens for Onam, ‘Pattabhiraman’ managed to hold steady. It has now been released in UAE and GCC centres. The film is out in major centres in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Oman, Baharain and Qatar.

Shane Nigam’s Olu to hit screens tomorrow!

Veteran filmmaker Shaji N Karun’s romantic fantasy ‘Olu’ is all set for release tomorrow (September 20). The film has Shane and ‘Drishyam’ fame Esther Anil in the lead roles. Olu, which means she in Malayalam, is the tale of a Gypsy girl who mysteriously survives under the backwaters where she has been sunk by her rapists. She is able to see the world above the water only during full moon nights. It is on such a night that she happens to ‘meet’ Vasu, a young untalented painter, rowing his boat.

Shane Nigam plays the role of this painter who is in search of his muse and Esther is his ‘olu’. Out of love, she empowers him to create paintings that will change his life. But their contrasting inner visions of love may remain unbridgeable. The story is written by Shaji N Karun and has several layers like most of his earlier acclaimed films. TD Ramakrishnan has penned the screenplay.

The film’s cast also includes Indrans, Kani Kasthuri and Maya Menon. Late cinematographer MJ Radhakrishnan has shot the film and his outstanding work deservingly won him a National award this year. Issac Thomas Kottukapally is the music director and Sreekar Prasad has handled the edits.

Kaappaan and The Zoya Factor to clash at the box office tomorrow

Kerala box office is set to witness a big clash tomorrow (September 20). Around five films are set to hit screens, of which expectations are high on ‘Kaappaan’ and ‘The Zoya Factor’ (TZF). Both are non-Malayalam films but have Malayali presence in it. While ‘Kaappaan’ has superstar Mohanlal and Suriya in the lead roles, ‘TZF’ marks Dulquer Salmaan’s second outing in Bollywood.

‘Kaappaan’, an action thriller directed by KV Anand, will be released in Kerala by Mulakupadam Films. The film is set to be released in over 100 screens in the state and is most likely to take a big opening thanks to the popularity of its lead actors.

‘TZF’, on the other hand is a fun rom-com directed by Abhishek Sharma. Based on Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 best seller novel, the film has Sonam Kapoor in the titular role. E4 Entertainment is distributing ‘TZF’ in Kerala and over 75 screens have already been charted.
