As announced earlier, Tovino Thomas is set to reunite with his ‘Godha’ director Basil Joseph. The duo are teaming up for a movie titled as ‘Minnal Murali’. Interestingly, it is a local superhero flick that will have Tovino in the titular role. Since it is an unusual subject, the makers have been involved in the pre-production works for some time now. Director Basil has now informed that they will be starting shooting by December.

Basil Joseph is one of the most promising among the younger generation of filmmakers. He has already delivered back to back hits in ‘Kunjiramayanam’ and ‘Godha’. Though he had announced a big budget film with Mammootty and Tovino in the leads, the movie got shelved. He was also supposed to a film with Biju Menon, which has also been delayed. Basil has a knack for humour, which he had proven with his first two films. ‘Minnal Murali’ is also expected to be an out and out fun film. Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing the movie.

Tovino meanwhile has multiple projects coming up. ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ directed by Jeo Baby and ‘Edakkad Battalion 06’ are his two films gearing up for release. Besides that, there are five more projects in his kitty.

Rajinikanth’s 2.0 to be released in 47,000 screens in China

Superstar Rajinikanth’s sci-fi marvel 2.0 is set to have its China release next month. The movie will be releasing in a whopping 47,000 screens in the country. China has proven to be a huge market for Indian films. The tremendous success of films like ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ is a testament to that. 2.0 with its globally appealing storyline is expected to mint big bucks at the Chinese box office. Lyca Productions have associated with HY Media, one of China’s leading distributors, for releasing the movie.

2.0 originally released worldwide in a record number of screens on November 29, last year. The Shankar directorial was released simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles, 2.0 grossed over Rs 500 crores from the box office. Only a handful of Indian movies like the two ‘Baahubali’ films and ‘Dangal’ feature in the elite club. Thanks to Akshay Kumar’s presence, the Hindi version of ‘2.0’ alone earned over Rs 100 crore.

Major Ravi planning to team up with Tovino Thomas

Tovino Thomas is busy doing back to back films and it seems like he is no mood to stop. The actor has over five projects already lined up and he is now in talks with director Major Ravi for a new film. It is expected to be an army flick in the director’s trademark style. Needless to say, Tovino has the physique and attitude to play an army man. So it will be interesting to see him in a Major Ravi film. Discussions are still in the initial stages and an official word is still awaited.

Meanwhile, Tovino has another film coming up in which he plays an army man. Titled as ‘Edakkad Battalion 06’, the film is being directed by debutant Swapnesh K Nair. Actor-writer P Balachandran has scripted the film. Samyuktha Menon plays the female lead. Shoot has already been wrapped up and it is expected to hit screens next month.

Some of Tovino’s other announced projects are ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’, ‘Forensic’, ‘Minnal Murali’, ‘Joe’, ‘Aaravam’, ‘563 St Charles Street’ and ‘Pallichattambi’.

Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham release date out!

After the completion of shoot earlier this year, ‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ is currently in the post-production phase. Since it is a VFX heavy film, the makers had informed that it might take up to a year to complete all the works. A Los Angeles based company is handling the VFX works. As per latest reports, the team is planning to wrap up works by early next year. If things go as per plans, this highly anticipated film will hit screens on March 26, 2020.

The period flick directed by Priyadarshan is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the cast also includes big stars from across the country. Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Keerthy Suresh, Ashok Selvan, Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Fazil, Siddique, Manju Warrier, Baburaj, Nedumudi Venu, Hareesh Perady, Nandu, Innocent, Ganesh Kumar, Suresh Kumar and many others are part of the film.

‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ is said to be made on a budget of around Rs 100 crores. Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the movie.

Satellite rights of Mammootty’s Shylock bagged by Surya TV

Mammootty is currently shooting for ‘Shylock’, a mass entertainer directed by Ajai Vasudev. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film. Even before the completion of shoot, the film’s satellite rights have been bagged by one of the market leaders, Surya TV. Though the exact amount for which the rights were acquired have not yet been revealed, it is expected to be a quite a hefty amount.

Scripted by newcomers Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, ‘Shylock’ is said to be an action-packed mass entertainer. Mammootty plays a financier’s role in the film and his character is said to be a grey shaded one. Veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran is making his Malayalam debut with this film. He is playing an equally important role. Meena will be seen as the female lead. She has been paired with Raj Kiran.

‘Shylock’ has been planned as a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual. Its core technical crew includes cinematographer Renadive, music director Gopi Sunder, editor Riyas K Badhar and art director Vinod Raveendran. If things go as per plans, the movie will be hitting screens for this year’s Christmas in December.

‘Kaappaan’ is gearing up to hit screens next month. The movie directed by KV Anand has a stellar star cast lead by two of South cinema’s biggest stars – Mohanlal and Suriya. As the movie gets ready for release, the makers have started releasing promo clips. A short new promo video of the song ‘Siriki’ has been released online. It is a dance number rendered by Senthil Ganesh and Ramani Ammal. Harris Jayaraj has composed the track. The visuals feature glimpses of several action sequences and a short message about farming towards the end.

‘Kaappaan’ is touted to be an action-packed thriller. The movie has Mohanlal playing the Indian Prime Minister, named Chandrakanth Varma. He is said to be playing a grey-shaded role. Suriya plays the role of a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer, who is in charge of the PM’s security. The movie’s cast also includes Arya, Sayyeshaa, Boman Irani, Shamna Kasim and Samuthirakani in major roles.

Lyca Productions is producing ‘Kaappaan’. Besides Tamil, the movie is also releasing in Telugu. Both the versions are expected to hit screens simultaneously on September 20.

Vijay had recently completed shooting for his portions for ‘Bigil’. The actor will be finishing dubbing by the end of this month. Like he always does after the completion of his films, he will be taking a break to enjoy time with his family. Upon return in October, Vijay will start shooting for his new film, which will be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 64’, it has been planned as an action-packed gangster flick. Director Lokesh himself has penned the script. The director made his debut in 2017 with the surprise hit ‘Maanagaram’. Since then, Lokesh has been rated as one of the most promising filmmakers in Tamil. He is currently working on Karthi starrer ‘Kaithi’, which is gearing up for release.

‘Thalapathy 64’ will mark the Tamil debut of Malayali actor Antony Varghese. Reportedly, the ‘Angamaly Diaries’ star has been roped in to play the villain role in the movie. The makers are also in talks with Kiara Advani to play the female lead. Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan and editor Philomin Raj are said to be part of the technical crew. Official announcement will be made shortly.

Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Andhadhun’ was one of the most acclaimed films in in Indian cinema last year. The movie has already won several awards, which includes three at the National level as well. Ayushmann Khuranna’s stellar performance in the movie won him the National Award for best actor. It also won the award for best adapted screenplay and best Hindi film. Besides the critical acclaim, the movie emerged as a big commercial blockbuster as well, earning over Rs 100 crores from the box office alone.

Ever since its release and the tremendous response that followed, there have been reports about the movie getting remade in various languages. Dhanush and Siddharth were the first names that emerged for the Tamil remake, but it has now been confirmed that Prashanth has bagged the deal. His father, director-producer Thiagarajan, has acquired the remake rights for a hefty price.

Thiagarajan had earlier remade Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Johnny Gaddar’ in Tamil, which again had Prashanth in the lead. However, the movie failed to click at the box office. The father-son duo will be hoping for a better luck this time. Thiagarajan believes that the lead role in ‘Andhadhun’ remake will be a cake walk for Prashanth as he is a pianist, who has passed grade 4 in piano at the Trinity College of London.

Relief and rehabilitation efforts are progressing in many parts of the flood-hit Kerala, particularly in the northern districts like Wayanad and Malappuram. People across the state and from outside are coming forward with valuable contributions to help those affected. Film industry personalities are also on the forefront to raise funds and relief materials.

‘Anbodu Kochi’, a collective that was formed during the 2015 Chennai floods, is actively involved this year as well in organizing essential materials for those in the relief camps. Celebrity couple Indrajith Sukumaran and Poornima Indrajith are leading the team that has several number of volunteers. Around 35 truck of relief materials have been sent by the team alone.

Last day, actor Prithviraj contributed a truck load of materials to Wayanad through ‘Anbodu Kochi’ team. Indrajith thanked his brother for arranging what is the single biggest consignment from their side. Actors like Sarayu Mohan, Gilu Joseph, Samyuktha Menon and many others are involved in the collection drive that is functioning from the Regional Sports Centre in Ernakulam.

Ambili continues to garner good response; Here’s a new teaser

Soubin Shahir’s ‘Ambili’ continues to get good response from the audience. Releasing on August 9 in Kerala, the film opened to largely positive reviews. Critics as well as common audience lapped up the film rating it as a clean feel good entertainer. Last Wednesday (August 14), it got released in Gulf centres as well. The film has also been released in Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and some other major centres outside Kerala. Meanwhile, the makers have released a new teaser online.

‘Ambili’ is written and directed by John Paul George of ‘Guppy’ fame. Just like his debut film, his sophomore work is also a feel-good entertainer, that’s high on emotions. It is powered by a fantastic performance from its lead actor, Soubin Shahir. It is part a road movie as well as its shot in various locations across the country.

Soubin plays the titular role of Ambili. Nazriya Nazim’s younger brother Naveen Nazim and debutante Tanvi Ram have essayed the other two major roles. Jaffer Idukki, Vettukili Prakash, Neena Kurup, Binu Pappu and Sreelatha Nampoothiri are also part of the film’s supporting cast. Sharan Velayudhan, a noted cinematographer in the ad film industry, has cranked the camera. Kiran Das has done the edits and music is composed by Vishnu Vijay. Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathi have produced it under the banner of E4 Entertainment.
