Manju Warrier in Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s next

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan is one of the biggest names in the parallel film space in Malayalam. So far he has directed four feature films, and all of them have won widespread acclaim. He is currently working on a new film titled ‘Kayattam’ and it has Manju Warrier in the lead role. Post her comeback, this is the first time Manju Warrier is attempting an offbeat film. So naturally, her character in ‘Kayattam’ is certain to be a performance oriented one. Shoot for the film is currently progressing in Himalayas. Niv Art Movies, a production house that has frequently collaborated with Sanal, is producing this film as well.

Meanwhile, the director’s ‘Chola’ starring Nimisha and Joju George is set to have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. The festival is scheduled to be held at Lido island from August 28 to September 6. The Venice Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and one of the ‘Big Three’ film festivals, alongside the Cannes Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival. Interestingly, ‘Chola’ is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at Venice.

Manju Warrier, on the other hand, as her maiden Tamil film ‘Asuran’ gearing up for release in October. The Vetrimaaran directorial has paired with Dhanush. In Malayalam, she has completed her portions for Santosh Sivan’s ‘Jack and Jill’ and Priyadarshan’s ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. She has also signed for her brother Madhu Warrier’s directorial debut and Rosshan Andrrews’ new film.

As reported by us earlier, actor Dileep’s brother Anoop is turning a director. Santhosh Echikkanam is scripting the movie, which will be produced by Dileep’s own banner, Graand Productions. The makers had informed that a bunch of newcomers will be starring in the film and they had also conducted auditions to find suitable actors.

It is now learnt that Arjun Ashokan will be playing the lead role in the film. Arjun is undoubtedly among the most promising actors of this generation in Malayalam cinema. He has delivered impressive performances in films like ‘Parava’, ‘B Tech’, ‘Varathan’, ‘June’ and ‘Unda’. He is currently part of biggies like ‘Thuramukham’ and ‘Trance’. Arjun has also been roped in to play a major role in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s next film after ‘Jallikkattu’.

With Anoop’s film, Arjun will be making his debut as a hero. The film is said to be based on one of Santhosh Echikkanam’s famous short stories. Echikkanam has earlier scripted films like ‘Njan Steve Lopez’, ‘Annayum Rasoolum’, ‘Chandrettan Evideya’ and ‘Nidra’. More details regarding the film including its title and when shoot begins begins are expected to be announced soon.

Last day, the makers of upcoming Malayalam movie ‘Jack Daniel’ unveiled a new poster featuring action king Arjun. The movie directed by SL Puram Jayasurya has Dileep and Arjun in the titular roles. The two actors are coming together for the first time and that’s the movie’s biggest selling point.

‘Jack Daniel’ is said to be an action-packed thriller. The movie has Dileep playing a robber named Jack and Arjun playing a CBI officer named Daniel. Apparently, it is a thrilling cat and mouse story between these two lead characters. Anju Kurian of ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame plays the female lead. Saiju Kurup, Devan, Innocent, Janaradhanan, Ashokan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Aju Varghese are also part of the supporting cast.

‘Jack Daniel’ has cinematography by Sivakumar Vijayan, who was the DOP of Tamil films like ‘NGK’, ‘Iraivi’ and ‘Irudhi Suttru’. Gopi Sunder handles the music department. It is being produced by Shibu Thameens of Thameens Films.

As informed earlier, the official teaser of Vijay Sethupathi’s new film ‘Sanga Tamizhan’ has just been released online. The teaser features Vijay Sethupathi in a mass avatar, with glimpses of loads of action. The movie is directed by Vijay Chander of ‘Sketch’ and ‘Vaalu’ fame. Vijaya Productions is producing the movie, which is touted to be a complete commercial mass entertainer just like the director’s earlier two films.

Reportedly, Vijay Sethupathi plays a dual role in ‘Sanga Tamizhan’. The movie has two female leads in Raashi Khanna and Nivetha Pethuraj. Others in the cast include Soori, Nasser, John Vijay Asutosh Rana and Ravi Kishan. Vivek – Mervin duo is composing the music and cinematography is by R Velraj. Praveen KL is handling the edits.

Director Vijay Chander’s first two films – ‘Vaalu’ and ‘Sketch’ were disappointing that failed to impress the critics and also had a lukewarm run at the box office. So the director will be trying to rectify his mistakes and a deliver a hit this time around.

After the superhit success of ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’, director Rosshan Andrrews is back with his next. His new film will have Joju George, Manju Warrier and Anusree playing the lead roles. Unni R is scripting the film, which will be produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films. Shoot for this yet-to-be titled film will be commencing from the first week of September.

Among the lead cast, only Manju Warrier has worked previously with Rosshan Andrrews. Joju George and Manju were previously supposed to work together in the Joshiy directorial ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ but the actress opted out due to her date issues. Likewise, Unni R and Rosshan Andrrews are also teaming up for the first time. The writer-director duo had earlier planned to collaborate for a period flick titled ‘The Pirates Of Diego Garcia’, but it didn’t take off.

Official announcement regarding Rosshan Andrrews’ new film with details about its entire cast and crew is expected to be made shortly.

Today, on the occasion of the country’s 73rd Independence Day, a special new poster of the upcoming Tamil movie ‘Indian 2’ has been released online. Kamal Haasan as the freedom-turned-vigilante Senapathi is seen wearing the iconic khakhi uniform and cap. The makers have also added details about the technical crew associated with the film.

‘Indian 2’ is the sequel to Kamal’s own classic hit ‘Indian’, released back in 1996. Shankar, who helmed the original, is directing this film as well. The movie originally went on floors in January only to be shelved shortly. Shoot got resumed only a couple days of back. Along with Kamal Haasan, ‘Indian 2’ also stars Vidyut Jammwal, Kajal Agarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Aishwarya Rajesh and Nedumudi.

Shankar has written the movie’s screenplay and dialogues are penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Rathnavelu, editor Sreekar Prasad and production designer Muthuraj form the core technical crew.

Lyca Productions is producing the film and it is reported that they are investing a lavish budget of over Rs 200 crores. The makers are planning to release it by next summer.

Titled as ‘Raangi’, the film is being directed by M Saravanan of ‘Engeyum Eppothum’ fame. His mentor AR Murugadoss has penned the story for the movie. It is being produced by Lyca Productions. ‘Raangi’ reportedly has Anaswara Rajan plays a crucial full length role along with Trisha. After completing all her portions, she will next be joining the sets of Biju Menon’s ‘Ardharathri, directed by Jibu Jacob.

He has been doing this regularly for the last few years and for ‘Bigil’, he has gone one step ahead. The actor has gifted all 400 members of the film, comprising both cast and crew, with gold rings. All the rings have the title ‘Bigil’ embedded on them. Vijay has also personally signed footballs for the actors with whom he shared screen space.

Floored by the kind-heartedness of Vijay, the movie’s producer Archana Kalpathi tweeted,

‘Bigil’ directed by Atlee is a mass entertainer with woman’s football at its crux. The movie has Vijay dual playing a dual role as a gangster father and his son, who is a footballer-turned-coach. Nayanthara is paired with Vijay in the movie. Veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Vivek and Daniel Balaji and Anand Raj will be seen in supporting roles.

AR Rahman has scored music for the movie, cinematography is by ‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu and edits are being handled by Ruben. 95% of the movie’s shoot has been completed and dubbing works have already begun. With Diwali still two months away, the team is well on course for a grand festival release.
