Unni Mukundan is super excited for Maamaankam

Mammootty starrer ‘Maamaankam’ is currently in the final schedule of shoot. After shooting in various locations across Kannur, Ernakulam, Ottappalam, Vagamon and Athirapally, the makers have erected huge sets in an area sprawling over 18 acres. Directed by M Padmakumar, this period flick is about ‘Maamaankam’, a medieval fair where brave warriors from various regions would come together to showcase their skills at combat.

The movie has superstar Mammootty in the lead role of a fiery ‘Chaaver’ (warrior). It revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers. Besides Mammootty, the movie also has young star Unni Mukundan in a prominent role as Chandroth Panicker. It is said to be one of the most challenging and demanding roles in Unni’s career so far. The actor recently took to his social media handle to share his excitement about ‘Maamaankam’ and his character Chandroth Panicker. He has written,

The final schedule of ‘Maamaankam’ is expected to last for over 40-60 days. Around 2000 junior artists are said to be part of this final leg of shoot. The movie has Kaniha and Anu Sithara as the two female leads. Tarun Raj Arora, Prachi Tehlan, Sudev Nair, Siddique, Abu Salim, Sudheer Sukumaran and many others are part of the supporting cast. Venu Kunnappilly is producing the movie under the banner of Kavya Films.

First song from Children’s Park to be released by Dileep

The first single from director Shafi’s new film Children Park’s will be released tomorrow (May 12) evening through Dileep’s official social media handle. The movie has Sharafudheen, Vishnu Unnikrishnan and ‘Queen’ fame Druvan in the lead roles. The makers had recently released a trailer which gave hints of an out and out fun entertainer with some action and thrills.

The movie has three heroines in Manasa Radhakrishnan, Gayathri Suresh and Soumya Menon. Its supporting cast includes veteran Madhu, Hareesh Kanaran, Raffi, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sreejith Ravi, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Nobi and Basil. On the technical side, Faisal Ali is the cinematographer and V Saajan is handling the edits.

Shafi is one of the most successful filmmakers in Malayalam cinema. The director is a big favourite among the family audience as most of his films have been crowd-pleasing comedy entertainers. With ‘Children’s Park’, he is reuniting with his writer-director brother Raffi. They last teamed up for the blockbuster success of ‘Two Countries’. They will be hoping to continue the same with ‘Children’s Park’. Roopesh Omana and Milan Jaleel are jointly producing the movie under the banner of Cochin Films.

Parayuvan: Here’s the first song from Ishq

As informed earlier, the first single from Shane Nigam starrer ‘Ishq’ has just been released online. This romantic track is set to tunes by Jakes Bejoy. Popular South Indian singer Sid Sriram is making his Malayalam debut with this track. He has rendered it with the talented Neha S Nair. Joe Paul has penned the lyrics.

‘Ishq’ is directed by debutant Anuraj Manohar and scripted by Ratheesh Ravi of ‘Pullikkaran Staraa’ fame. Shane Nigam and ‘Ezra’ fame play Ann Sheetal play the lead roles. Shine Tom Chacko and Leona Lishoy are also essaying prominent roles in the movie.

‘Ishq’ has cinematography by Ansarsha and music by Jakes Bejoy. Kiran Das of ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ fame is handling the edits. It is being produced by Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathy under the banner of E4 Entertainment.

Official word regarding the release date is still awaited.

Wait for Lucifer 2 won’t be long, confirms Murali Gopy

Ever since the release of ‘Lucifer’, there have been numerous talks about the possibilities of a sequel to the movie. The makers have left several loose ends and a very intriguing open ended climax. Time and again, they have also added fuel to speculations by hinting about a second part.

Writer Murali Gopy has now posted a note in his Facebook page stating that the wait won’t be too long. Earlier in an interview, he had said that ‘Lucifer’ was designed as a franchise and director Prithviraj also concurred it by tweeting ‘more to come’. The two had also shared a photo of an iceberg, further suggesting that what we got to see in ‘Lucifer’ is only the tip of the iceberg.

‘Lucifer’ fans are already excited to see more of Stephen Nedumbally aka Abram Qureshi. It will be interesting to see how the trio of Prithviraj, Mohanlal and Murali Gopy manage to live up to the expectations that will be sky-high. Let’s hope the project materialises soon.

We had recently reported about Indrajith Sukumaran signing a new film titled ‘Paapam Cheyyathavar Kalleriyatte’. The movie is directed by Shambhu Purushothaman of ‘Vedivazhipadu’ fame. Sanju Unnithan of Spire Productions is producing the the movie. Anu Mol and Srindaa have been cast as the female leads.

It must be noted that both Indrajith and Anu Mol were part of director Shambu Purushothaman’s debut film ‘Vedivazhipaadu’. Just like his debut film, this one is also said to be a social satire. Along with Indrajith and the two female leads, Alencier Ley will also be seen in a prominent role. Shoot is scheduled to commence from the end of this month.

Meanwhile, Indrajith has some promising films coming up this year. He is part of two big multi-starrers — Aashiq Abu’s ‘Virus’ and Rajeev Ravi’s ‘Thuramukham’. Debutant Kiran Prabhakaran’s ‘Thakkol’ and ‘Lucifer’ editor Samjith Muhammed’s maiden directorial ‘Thalanarizha’ are also in the pipeline.

Mammootty’s cop flick ‘Unda’ is getting ready to hit screens this Eid. The movie directed by Khalidh Rahman of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ fame is touted to be an comedy action thriller. ‘Unda’ has Mammootty playing the role of a police sub inspector named Mani. Director Ranjith is also playing a key role as a police officer in the movie. Though he is a reluctant actor, Ranjith has given some fine performances in films like ‘Koode’, ‘Gulmohar’ and ‘Annayum Rasoolum’.

Unda’s story revolves around a set of events that occur when an unit of policemen from Kerala reach the Maosit areas in Chhattisgarh for election duty. Director Khalidh has penned the story and screenplay is by Harshad. The movie has a huge supporting cast comprising of Asif Ali, Vinay Forrt, Shine Tom Chacko, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Jacob Gregory, Rony David, Arjun Ashokan, Gokulan, Abhiram, Sudhi Koppa, Dileesh Pothan, Lukman, Omkar Das Manikpuri and Bhagwan Tiwari.

Krishnan Sethukumarr is producing the film under the banner of Movie Mill in association with Gemini Studios.

Last day, the official launch of Dulquer Salmaan’s maiden production venture was held in Kochi. Dulquer, his wife Amaal Sufiya, Sunny Wayne, Sekhar Menon and Shani Shaki were present for the launch. Along with sharing photos of the event, Dulquer had also written a note in his social media handle, which reads,

So today makes the first day of shoot for my maiden production. The name of the film and the production house is still under wraps. I’ll announce both when the time is right. In the mean time seeking all of your blessings and prayers for this to turn into a lovely company that makes quality films of all kinds.

Though details about the title, cast and crew have not yet been formally announced, it is learnt that the movie has been titled as ‘Ashokante Adhyarathri’. Jacob Gregory is said to be playing the lead role in the movie. Dulquer is also likely to appear in a cameo role. Dulquer and Gregory are great friends in real-life. They have also acted together in films like ‘ABCD’, ‘100 Days of Love’, ‘Jomonte Suvisheshangal’ and ‘Parava’.

With his maiden production, Dulquer is introducing a bunch of newcomers to the industry. The movie is directed by Shamsu Zayba. Sajad Kakku is the cinematographer and music is by Sreehari K Nair. Let’s wait for the official announcement for more details.

Shoot for Vijay-Atlee duo’s new film is currently progressing at a brisk pace. The makers have kept utmost secrecy about the proceedings. But it is already known that it’s a sports based flick centred around woman’s football. Vijay plays a player-turned-coach in the movie. Nayanthara is paired with him. Noted heroines like Induja and Varsha Bollamma have also been cast in prominent roles.

Latest to join the team is Malayali actress Reba Monica John, who is noted for her roles in ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’ and ‘Paipinchuvattile Pranayam’. Reba made her Tamil debut last year with the Jai starrer ‘Jarugandi’. In ‘Thalapathy 63’, Reba, Induja and Varsha Bollamma will all be seen as football players. Vijay’s character Michael is their team’s coach.

Recently, the team shot the football portions in huge sets erected in the outskirts of Chennai. Experts from overseas have been brought in to choreograph the football match sequences. As per the makers, the movie will be a mass commercial tale of football, sports politics, friendship and emotions. Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Daniel Balaji, Anand Raj and many others are part of the supporting cast.

The first look poster of veteran Joshiy’s comeback film ‘Porinju Mariyam Jose’ was released last day. The poster features all three lead actors – Joju George, Nyla Usha and Chemban Vinod Jose. It is a terrific poster that gives an overall mass vibe.

Abilash N Chandran has scripted the movie, which is reportedly a Trissur-based family drama cum thriller. Joju George’s character is named Porinju, while Nyla essays the role of Alappat Mariyam. Chemban Vinod plays the role of Puthanpalli Jose. From the posters and talks within the industry, the movie looks highly promising. Director Joshiy, whose last few films were failures, will be trying to make a strong comeback.

In the technical front, Ajai David Kachappilly cranks the camera and music is by Jakes Bejoy of ‘Ranam’ and ‘Queen’ fame. Shyam Sasidharan is handling the edits. Rejimon is producing the movie under the banner of Keerthy Movies. Release date is expected to be announced shortly.

Dulquer Salmaan had recently revealed his plans to turn a producer. He had also released a casting call for his maiden production venture through his social media handle. The movie reportedly titled as ‘Ashokante Adhyarathri’ has gone on floors today. Dulquer, his wife Amaal Sufiya, Sunny Wayne, Sekhar Menon and Shani Shaki were present for the movie’s launch.

Though details about the cast and crew have not yet been revealed, our sources within the industry inform that Dulquer will not been starring in it. The makers had recently released a casting call looking for boys between the age group of 7-12 and girls between 6-10. Female actors between 19-24, 30-35 and 40-50 were also called upon. A bunch of newcomers are behind the movie’s making and their names are expected to officially announced shortly.

Dulquer Salmaan’s latest release ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’, continues to do well at the box office. His much-awaited Hindi film ‘The Zoya Factor’ is getting ready for release in June.
