Thala 59: Yuvan Shankar Raja to compose for Ajith after a six-year-long gap

‘Thala 59’, actor Ajith’s next with ‘Theeran’ fame H Vinoth was launched recently. Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor, husband of late actress Sridevi, is entering K-Town by bankrolling this movie. Shoot has already commenced, but Ajith is yet to join the team. While it was said that AR Rahman will be composing for the film, it has now been officially announced that the makers have signed Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Yuvan is unarguably the most favourite composer of Thala fans as he has given several hit songs and some of the best background score for the star. His compositions in Ajith’s films like ‘Billa’, ‘Mankatha’ and ‘Dheena’ were much talked about. So when Yuvan join hands with Ajith after six years, expectations among the fans are on the higher side.

As speculated earlier, this upcoming movie is the official remake of acclaimed Hindi film, ‘Pink’. Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, the movie discussed some sensitive issues about women’s rights and dignity. It won widespread critical acclaim and bagged the National film award for Best Film on other social issues.

According to the makers of the Tamil version, it will not be a scene by scene remake. The script has been adapted to suit the sensibilities of the audience. Ajith will be reprising Amitabh Bachchan’s role of the brooding lawyer. The original film didn’t have any scope for commercial elements, so it remains to be see how the remake is being adapted to make it appealing to Ajith’s fans.

Confirmed: Rajinikanth’s next is with AR Murugadoss

For a while now there have been speculations about AR Murugadoss planning a movie with superstar Rajinikanth. The director confirmed the same last day in the Behindwoods Gold Medal award function, where he was honoured with the best socially responsible filmmaker award for ‘Sarkar’. When asked about his upcoming movie with Rajinikanth, Murugadoss said it will be a complete mass entertainer.

Sun Pictures is said to be producing the movie. It must be noted that the banner was recently associated with both Rajinikanth and Murugadoss in ‘Petta’ and ‘Sarkar’, respectively. AR Murugadoss has been a huge superstar fan since long and he will be hoping to make a truly memorable film.

Rajinikanth’s last release, ‘2.0’, has been doing some great business. Storming past the Rs 500 crore mark, the movie has already become one of the highest grossers in Indian cienma. Superstar is also awaiting the release of ‘Petta’, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The movie also starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui is set to hit screens for Pongal in January.

My character in Lucifer has an anti-hero shade: Mohanlal

Prithviraj’s directorial debut, Lucifer, starring Mohanlal in the lead is eagerly awaited by the Malayali audience. The movie is scheduled to hit screens in March, but the buzz around it is already huge. Apart from the fact that it is a political thriller, nothing else is known about the movie, which has raised the audience’s curiosity.

Lucifer scripted by Murali Gopy has Mohanlal playing a politician named Stephen Nedumballi. The movie’s recently released teaser indicated that his is character has grey shades and Mohanlal has now confirmed the same. In an interview, when asked about playing his thoughts on playing negative roles, the veteran said he would love to play anti-hero characters. He added that his character in Lucifer is one such grey-shaded role.

Lucifer has stars like Vivek Oberoi Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier and in major roles. Recently, Prithviraj had said that all the characters in the movie have grey shades. They all lie in between the circles of good (white) and bad (black).

Lucifer shoot is nearing completion. Mohanlal recently finished shooting for his portions. The movie has been shot across Kerala, Mumbai, Banglore, Lakshadweep and Russia. Mohanlal’s home banner Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the movie.

Mohanlal joins the sets of Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham

Priyadarshan’s mega budget project ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ went on floors earlier this month in Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. Major portions of the movie will be shot in the film city. Mohanlal joined the team last day. The superstar shared the news to his followers through his social media handle. His son Pranav, who is playing a cameo role, has already shot a few portions.

This epic movie is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief of Zamorin of Calicut in the 16th century, whose duty was to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. Mohanlal plays the fourth Marakkar and his son Pranav is essaying the younger part of his character. Though the makers are yet to make an official announcement, reports suggest that the cast comprises of Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Mukesh, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Madhu, Manju Warrier and Pooja Kumar. Few British and Chinese actors will also be seen in the movie.

Production designer Sabu Cyril, cinematographer Tirru and editor MS Ayyappan Nair are part of the technical crew. Said to be the biggest Malayalam film in terms of production values, Marakkar.. is being planned to be made on a budget of around Rs 100 crores. Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are coming together for its production. The makers have planned to wrap up shoot by mid-2019 and release it in 2020.

Kajal Agarwal starts training in Kalaripayattu for Indian 2

We had earlier reported about Kajal Agarwal being signed as the female lead for ‘Indian 2’. The actress confirmed the same in a recent audio launch event. She has already started training in Kalaripayattu for the movie. She recently posted a photo of her reading a Kalari related book in her social media handle. Earlier, there were reports about Kajal going abroad for a special makeup test. Looks like she has a highly challenging role in the movie.

‘Indian 2’, directed by Shankar is the sequel to the 1996 classic hit ‘Indian’. The movie will have Kamal Haasan reprising his role of Senapathi, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante. There are several rumours about the other cast members, but the makera are yet to make an official announcement.

Shankar is scripting the movie and dialogues are being penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Production designer Muthuraj and his team are currently busy with the set works. A 2 crore worth set is currently being erected in Chennai. Ravi Varman has been signed as the cinematographer and Anirudh will be handling the music department.

Lyca Productions is funding the movie. Shoot is expected to commence by mid January.

Vijay Sethupathi has been on a signing spree for the last couple of years. We had recently reported about him committing for a new movie with his mentor Seenu Ramasamy. The movie titled as ‘Maamanithan’ went on floors last day. Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja is producing the movie. Interestingly, the movie will have music scored by both Yuvan and his father, the legendary Ilayaraaja.

Director Seenu Ramasamy and Vijay Sethupathi have previously worked together in the National award winning film ‘Thenmerku Paruvakaatru’, ‘Dharmadurai’ and the yet-to-be released ‘Idam Porul Yeval’. Cinephiles are expecting to see another quality film from this successful actor-director combo.

Vijay Sethupathi is currently on a high with the back to back blockbuster success of ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ and ’96’. He ia presently awaiting the release of Balaji Tharaneetharan’s ‘Seethakaathi’, which is set to hit screens on December 20.

As reported by us earlier, Ajith’s next (Thala 59) will be directed by H Vinoth of ‘Theeran’ fame. Mammootty set to join the sets of Pathinettam Padi

Actor-writer Shankar Ramakrishnan is making his directorial debut with ‘Pathinettam Padi’, a movie starring newcomers in the lead roles. The movie is funded by August Cinema. As announced earlier by the makers, megastar Mammootty is playing a major role in the movie. Reportedly, the actor will be joining the movie’s sets by the end of this month.

‘Pathinettam Padi’s lead cast includes youngsters from all 14 districts of the state. According to the makers, the movie has Mammootty playing John Abraham Palackal, who is the mastermind of all the proceedings. It is an extended cameo role and the star’s presence is expected to work for the movie commercially. A couple of other big stars will be also be seen in guest roles in the movie.

After completing his portions for ‘Pathinettam Padi’, Mammootty will be returning back to the sets of ‘Unda’, in which still has around ten more days of shoot left. After that, he will resume shooting for Vysakh’s ‘Madura Raja’.

Rajisha Vijayan’s debut in cinema was a stuff of dreams. Along with wining hearts, she also bagged the Kerala State Award for best actress for her endearing performance in ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’. After a brief hiatus, Rajisha is back with a movie which promises to do full justice to her true potential. The first look poster of her new movie, ‘June’ was unveiled recently in social medias. The actress has undergone a major makeover for the character. The movie directed by debutant Ahamed Khabeer tells the story of a girl from her teenage years to her wedding.

Rajisha in the titular role will be seen is six get-ups in the film. Her transformation video was released by the makers last day. It shows the kind of hard work and efforts that the actress had put to loose weight. She has also cut her hair short for the role. Rajisha had to set one whole year for ‘June’. It is not always that a female actor gets such a challenging role to perform and Rajisha was up to the task by setting aside one whole year for the film.

‘June’ is scripted by director Ahamed along with Libin Varghese and Jeevan Baby Mathew. The cast mostly comprises of newcomers. Known names like Joju George, Aju Varghese and Arjun Ashokan are also part of the team. Vijay Babu is producing the movie under his banner Friday Film House. The makers have announced that it will be a February release, but the exact date is not yet known.

Official: Here’s the release date of Mammootty’s Yatra!

As we already know, Mammootty is playing the lead in the biopic of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR. The movie titled as ‘Yatra’ is being directed by Mahi V Raghav. Shoot for the movie was has already been wrapped recently and the makers are currently busy with the post-production works. The movie was initially planned for release on December 21, but it could not materialize. It has now been officially announced that the movie will hitting screens worldwide on February 8.

YSR’s role is said to be one of the most challenging roles in Mammootty’s career. YS Rajasekhara Reddy aka YSR is arguable the most popular and revered politicians that the state of Andhra Pradesh has ever seen. Even after his demise, he is still regarded as a people’s leader and respected by millions. ‘Yatra’ team is hoping to make the film as a fitting tribute to the iconic leader.

Unlike other regular biopics, ‘Yatra’ is an event based film. It primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra in 2003, which was a changing point in his political career. Apart from Mammootty, the movie also stars Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar.

Its technical crew includes cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan of ‘Theeran Adhigaram Ondru’ fame and composer K. Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi Reddy are jointly producing the movie under their banner of 70MM Entertainments.
