Vijay Sethupathi to team up with director Cheran!

Vijay Sethupathi is busy signing back to back projects. After a highly successful 2018, the actor has a very busy season with a bunch of projects coming up. If reports are to be believed, he has signed for one more. The actor is set to team up with National award winning director Cheran for a new film. The two have been in talks for sometime now and it finally seems like things have fallen in place. An official announcement is expected to be made very shortly.

Cheran, a four time National award winner, is well known for his films like ‘Autograph’, ‘Pandavar Bhoomi’ and ‘Thavamai Thavamirundhu’. He last directed the movie ‘JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai’ in 2015. When Vijay Sethupathi teams up with such a highly revered filmmaker like Cheran, audience will surely be expecting a quality film.

Vijay Sethupathi is currently working on director Arun Kumar’s new film. He has also signed for films with directors Seenu Ramasamy and Vijay Chander. Apart from that, he has also committed for his debut Malayalam film with director Sanil Kalathil. He will be playing one of the leads in the movie alongside Jayaram.

‘Seethakaathi’, directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, is Vijay Sethupathi’s next to hit screens. The movie is scheduled for release on December 20. ‘Petta’, in which he plays Rajinikanth’s villain is gearing up for a Pongal release in January.

Special pooja for ‘Mahavir Karna’ team at Padmanabhaswamy Temple

We had earlier reported about RS Vimal planning an ambitious film on the mythological figure Karnan with Vikram in the lead. Titled as ‘Mahavir Karna’, the movie will be made in trilingual in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam. Last day, the director and team had a special pooja at Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The pooja was performed on a huge 30 kg bell which will be placed on a giant chariot, in which major portions of the movie will be shot.

Works for the 30 feet long chariot is currently progressing in Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. The chariot will have a total of 1001 bells. Except for the venerated bell, all the other ones are being made of fibre material. The chariot is being built in such a way that it can accommodate around 1000 people at a time.

The pooja function was attended by director B Unnikrishnan, actor Indrans, actor-politician Suresh Gopi and many others. RS Vimal took to his official social media handle to thank all those who attended the pooja. He has written,

According to reports, ‘Mahavir Karna’ shoot will be commencing in January. The makers are planning to release the film in the first half of 2020. Though an official word has not yet been given, it is being widely reported that several top stars from Indian cinema and Hollywood will be part of the movie. It is a mega project planned to be made on an estimated budget of Rs 300 crores. A New York based production house United Film Kingdom is backing this project.

Dhanush’s Maari 2 is eagerly awaited by the audience. The movie which is the sequel to his 2015 film ‘Maari’ has a strong pre-release buzz. The makers have announced that the movie will be hitting screens worldwide on December 21. The much awaited trailer will be released online tomorrow. Balaji Mohan is directing the movie and Dhanush’s own banner Wundebar Films is producing it.

‘Maari 2’ marks the maiden straight outing of Mollywood’s young star Tovino in Tamil. He plays the villain in the movie. His fans in Kerala have already arranged special early morning show for the movie. They are all excited to see Dhanush and Tovino locking horns. Though Tovino has played negative roles in movies like ‘ABCD’ and ‘Style’, it is his first attempt in doing a full-fledged villain role after becoming a star.

Maari 2 also has Sai Pallavi, Krishna, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar and Robo Shankar in major roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja is handling the music department, and his first single ‘Rowdy Baby’ has already become a sensational hit among music lovers.

Buzz: Mammootty to do a major role alongside Kamal Haasan in Indian 2!!

The much hyped Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Indian 2’ is all set to go on floors on December 14. The movie directed by Shankar is the sequel to the 1996 classic hit ‘Indian’. Though the makers are yet to make an official announcement about the cast, there are several reports doing the rounds in social medias. Latest buzz is that Malayalam superstar Mammootty has been approached to play a major role in the movie. Trade analyst and Kollywood industry tracker Kaushik was the first to tweet about this big news.

He has tweeted,

Director Shankar’s love for Malayali actors is well known. Most of his hit films have had a Malayali presence. Vineeth, Nedumudi Venu, Cochin Haneefa, Kalabhavan Mani and Suresh Gopi are some of the actors from Malayalam industry who have been part of Shankar’s films. His recently released ‘2.0’ had Kalabhavan Shajon in a brief role.

Earlier, Shankar had tried to rope in Mohanlal for the villain role in ‘Sivaji’ but it didn’t materialize. It will be huge if he can rope in Mammootty for ‘Indian 2’. On the other hand, the megastar has been choosy when it comes to doing Tamil films. In the last few years, he has declined a number of offers, some of which were big projects.

As of now, only Kamal and Kajal Agarwal have been confirmed for ‘Indian 2’. Though names like Ajay Devgn, Dulquer Salmaan, Akshay Kumar and Simbu are doing the rounds, we will have to wait for an official word from the makers side. Lyca Productions is funding the movie. An official announcement with details regarding the full cast and crew is expected to be made shortly.

The much awaited first single from superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta has been released online. The song titled ‘Marana Mass’ is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by the legendary SP Balasubramaniam. Vivek has penned the lyrics for this terrific mass track that is definite to become a chartbuster. SPB has sung the opening song in some Rajinikanth’s films biggest hit films. The combo had been missing for the last few years. Finally, Anirudh has got it right and should say, it has worked big time.

This is the first time Anirudh is composing for a Thalaivar film and fans are expecting nothing short of a cracker of an album. Second single from the movie will be released online on December 7. The makers are also hosting a grand audio launch on December 9.

‘Petta’ directed by Karthik Subbaraj is a mass entertainer that boasts of a huge star cast. Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sasikumar, Bobby Simha, Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Sasikumar and Megha Akash will be seen in major roles. Kalanithi Maran is producing the movie under the banner of Sun Pictures. It is scheduled to hit screens for Pongal, 2019.

Jallikattu will explore the beastly side of man: Lijo Jose Pellissery

Lijo Jose Pelissery is currently on an all-time high after bagging the prestigious Silver Peacock award for best director at the recently concluded Indian International Film Festival of India (IFFI). He won the award for the widely acclaimed ‘Ee Ma Yaau’, which also secured him the Kerala State award last year. The director, known for his versatility, is currently working on ‘Jallikkattu’, a new film based on S Hareesh’s short story ‘Maoist’. It discusses about the Maoist situation and a person’s right to freedom, from the point of view of two buffaloes.

In a recent interview with Silverscreen, Lijo revealed some interesting details about the movie. According to him, the movie is a satire told with a lot of humour. Taking the crux out of Hareesh’s short story, they have developed a screenplay which explores the beastly side of man. Lijo believes that it is an idea that hasn’t been explored much before.

Though the makers have not announced the cast officially, it is almost confirmed that Antony Varghese, Vinayakan and Sabumon Abdusamad play the major roles. Recently, Antony had suffered an injury to his face while shooting for an action sequence. After shooting for around a month, the team is currently on a schedule break.

For ‘Jallikkattu’, Lijo has retained his ‘Angamaly Diaries’ composer Prashanth Pillai and cinematographer Girish Gangadharan. Deepu Joseph is handling the edits and Renganaath Ravee is in charge of the sound design.

Superstar Rajinikanth-Akshay starrer 2.0 is setting the box office on fire. While the Hindi version of the movie alone is nearing the Rs 100 crore mark, the combined gross of all three languages (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) has breached the magical figure of Rs 400 crores. While industry insiders and trade experts are yet to confirm on this, the makers have officially shared the collection details through their social media handle.

2.0 got released in a record number of screens worldwide on November 29 and soon opened to phenomenal response, both in the Indian and overseas box office. The movie had emerged as the highest opening day grosser in Indian cinema this year. The record has held by Aamir Khan’s ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ (ToH), which had a pan-India opening day earning of around Rs 52.25 crores.

2.0 has already become an industry hit in Kollywood. Unseating Rajinikanth’s Enthiran, which was released 8 years back, 2.0 has become the highest grossing Tamil film of all time. The movie is expected to shatter several other records in the coming days.

As reported by us earlier, the customary pooja function of Jayaram’s upcoming movie, Grand Father was held today in Holiday Inn, Kochi. The two big Ms of Mollywood, Mohanlal and Mammootty lit the lamp and officially kick-started the proceedings. It is only rarely that the two superstars come together for a public function. A huge crowd had gathered near the hotel premises to catch a glimpse of their beloved stars.

‘Grand Father’ will be directed by Aneesh Anwar, notable for his films like ‘Kumbasaram’ and ‘Zachariyayude Garbhininkal’. Touted to be a fun entertainer, this upcoming movie has ‘Oozham’ fame Divya Pillai and ‘Kuttanadan Marpapa’ fame Surabhi Santhosh as the female leads. Anusree will also be seen in an crucial role. If reports are to be believed, the movie will also have a guest appearance by a superstar.

‘Grand Father’ has a big lineup of supporting cast comprising of several known names like Soubin Shahir, Baburaj, Baiju Santhosh, Vijayaraghavan, Sharafudheen, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Dileesh Pothan, Sajan Palluruthy, ‘Chalakkudikkaran Changathi’ fame Senthil Krishna, Asha Aravind, Johny Antony, Hareesh Kanaran, Jaffer Idukki and Mallika Sukumaran. From the all-fun cast, it looks like the movie will be an out and out comedy entertainer.

‘Grand Father’ is scripted by Shani Kader. DOP Sameer Haq, music director Vishnu Mohan Sithara and art director Sahas Bala are part of the technical crew. The movie is being produced by Achicha Films in association with Haseeb Haneef and Noushad Alathoor.

The trend of remaking South Indian movies in Hindi continues to prevail as yet another Telugu film is getting a Hindi version. Director Rohit Shetty is helming the Hindi version of Jr NTR’s blockbuster movie ‘Temper’. The remake titled as ‘Simmba’ has Ranveer Singh playing the lead. Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan plays the female lead while Sonu Sood essays the villain part. Official trailer of the movie was released today in social medias. The trailer gives hints of a typical Rohit Shetty style action packed masala film.

Rohit Shetty is well-known for delivering successful films like the Golmaal series, Singham series and Chennai Express. All his movies have been masala entertainers and his style of work is reminiscent of the Telugu commercial entertainers. Eventhough Simmba is an official remake, the director has tweaked the plot slightly to suit the sensibilities of the Bollywood audience. He has also infused few elements from the Singham series in this movie. Ajay Devgn makes a cameo appearance as Bajirao Singham in ‘Simmba’.

The official bio of the film reads, “Simmba is an orphan from Shivgadh from where our beloved Singham was born and raised. Contrary to the philosophies of Singham, Simmba believes that a Corrupt Officer’s life is an ideal life which inspires him to become one. While Simmba enjoys all the perks of being an immoral and unethical Police Officer, a twist in the tale transforms him and forces him to choose the righteous path.”

Suirya’s NGK nearing completion; Final schedule begins!

Suriya fans as well as the common audience are eagerly waiting for the release of NGK. The movie directed by Selvaraghavan has been on the floor for nearly a year now. The last schedule start rolling today. As per reports, the makers are planning to wrap up by the entire shoot shortly and soon get into the post-production works. The movie was initially planned as a Diwali release but shoot got delayed due to various reasons.

NGK is a political thriller in which Suriya plays the role of an MLA. It is said to be one of the most challenging roles that the actor has done in his career. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the two female leads while Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu will be seen as the villain. Nothing much is known about the film as the makers have been tight-lipped about the plot. Once the shoot gets completed, they are expected to divulge more details.
