Arun Gopy started his career as an independent filmmaker with the huge success of Dileep starrer ‘Ramaleela’. He recently finished shooting for ‘Irupathiyonnam Noottanadu’ starring Pranav Mohanlal. It is worth a mention that both his previous films were also produced by Tomichan Mulakuppadam.
Mohanlal currently has a handful of projects in his kitty. He was last seen shooting for the Prithviraj directorial ‘Lucifer’. His Tamil film with director KV Anand, also starring Suriya, is currently on floors. ‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ with Priyadarshan officially commenced last day in Hyderabad. ‘Big Brother’ with Siddique and ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ with debutant director duo Jibi-Joju are his other projects in the pipeline.
Mohanlal is currently awaiting the release of ‘Odiyan’, which is slated to hit screens worldwide on December 14.
Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Markkar: Arabikadalinte Simham starts rolling

The team kick-started the proceedings today with a customary pooja ceremony in Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. Director Priyadarshan, production Sabu Cyril, DOP Thirru and other crew members were present. This highly ambitious project is being planned to be made on a budget of around Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are coming together for production.
The movie is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. The makers have planned to start shooting by the second week of this month and wrap it up by mid-2019. The movie will be hitting screens only in 2020 as it demands extensive post-production works, which will be mostly done abroad
The first look of Sunny Wayne’s new movie, ‘Anugraheethan Antony’ was unveiled last day in social medias.
Interestingly, the movie was first announced with the title ‘Kunjunni Kundithananu’. The movie has a very young team behind it; most of the newcomers. Debutant Prince Joy is directing the movie and is written by Naveen T Manilal. Jishnu R Nair and Aswin Prakash have penned the story. In the technical front, Selvakumar is the DOP and Arjun Ben, the editor. Music department will be handled by Arun Muraleedharan.
Sunny Wayne is currently shooting for ‘Pidikittapulli’, also directed by a debutant, Jishnu Sreekandan. Ahaana Krishna of ‘Njan Steve Lopez’ fame plays the female lead in the movie. Touted to be a crime comedy thriller, the film is produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner Sri Gokulam Films.
Sunny recently finished shooting for his debut Tamil film, ‘Gypsy’. The movie directed by National award winner Raju Murugan has Jiiva in the lead. Sunny will also be seen in an extended cameo in ‘Zam Zam’, the Malayalam remake of acclaimed Bollywood film, ‘Queen’. He is reprising the role played by Rajkummar Rao in the original.
Unda has real-action and Mammootty himself has done all the stunts: Sham Kaushal
Shoot for Mammootty starrer ‘Unda’ is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Kasargod. The movie directed by ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ (AKV) fame Khalid Rahman has Mammootty in the role of a police sub-Inspector. The film traces events that occur when an unit of policemen from Kerala reach the Naxalite prone areas in North India on election duty. The makers have planned to shoot the movie as realistic as possible.
For that, they have got Sham Kaushal, a renowned stunt choreographer from Bollywood, to compose the action sequences. He is best known for his works in movies like ‘Dangal’, ‘Krrish 3’ and ‘Bhajrangi Bhaijaan’. Some of his other noted works include ‘Gunday’, ‘Padmaavat’, Bajirao Mastani, ‘Dhoom 3’ and ‘Phantom’.
Team ‘Unda’ recently shot the movie’s climax portions, which involves a riveting action block. In a chat with NIE, Kaushal was all praise for Mammootty. They’re working together after 22 long years and Kaushal was impressed by how Mammootty carries the same energy that he had back then. Since ‘Unda’ is not a larger-than-life story, the movie demands organic, real action and Mammootty did all the stunts by himself.
Unda’s cast comprises of Vinay Forrt, Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Sudhi Koppa, Arjun Ashokan, Dileesh Pothan and Alencier Ley Lopez. Krishnan Sethukumar of Movie Mill is presenting the movie in association with Gemini Studio. After wrapping up the ongoing schedule in Kasargaod, the team will be shifting to Wayanad and later to Chhattisgarh. The movie is expected to hit screens by mid-2019.
It’s a wrap for Pranav Mohanlal’s Irupathiyonnam Noottandu

Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films.
‘Irupathiyonnam Noottandu’ is a highly anticipated film as both Pranav and director Arun Gopy are fresh from the blockbuster success of ‘Aadhi’ and ‘Ramaleela’, respectively. The movie is said to be high on action. India’s leading action choreographer Peter Hein is handling the stunts in the movie. The team had recently shot a risky action block in a running train. Surfing portions were shot in Bali. Malayali audience can expect to see some never-before-seen kind of action in this movie.
Abinandan Ramanjunam, well known for his excellent work in ‘Amen’ and ‘Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal’, is cranking the camera. 2.0 is now only behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in the list of highest opening day grosses of all-time. The Rajamouli directorial had earned a net amount of a whopping Rs 121 crore on the first day. Unlike how its usually for big star films, 2.0 was released mid-week on Thursday but it still has the advantage of an extended opening weekend. The movie is expected to shatter several other records in the coming days.
Meanwhile, director Shankar has thanked all his fans and movie lovers for their phenomenal response to 2.0. He has tweeted,
My heart full thanks to the audience who have lapped up #2point0 and celebrated and made it a huge success, and to all the media who supported and respected the hard work of our team, and to my whole team who have given a piece of their life to 2.0
2.0 has been released in 2D and 3D format in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. Lyca Productions is funding this mega budget movie. The movie directed by M Padmakumar is a mix of genres – has layers of emotional drama, investigative thriller and passes on a very important and relevant social message. ‘Joseph’ is scripted by Shahi Kabir, a police officer in real-life. That authenticity and proper attention to details are there to be seen in the movie. It has a balanced screenplay that finely moves from dramatic emotional moments to an investigative mode.
‘Joseph’ easily has the career best performance of Joju George. The various mental conflicts that the character goes through has been portrayed brilliantly by him. Irshad, Dileesh Pothan, Sudhi Koppa and the two female leads have also done their parts well.
With the continuous positive talks in social medias, Joseph is expected to withstand the 2.0 storm and continue its good run.
2.0 Review: A visual extravaganza like never before in Indian cinema!
Shankar has a thing for grandeur and with each of his films he has tried to push the envelope further. With 2.0, he has done something that hasn’t been attempted before in Indian cinema. A sci-fi film shot film entirely in 3D format with two of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars in the lead. Exciting, isn’t it?
2.0 is the spiritual successor to Rajinikanth-Shankar combo’s 2010 blockbuster, Enthiran. Here, Rajinikanth reprises his roles of scientist Vaseegaran, the loyal andro-humanoid robot Chitti and its devilish version 2.0. Latest addition to the cast is Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar. Amy plays Nila, a robot that has been designed as Vasi’s personal assistant. Though Sana from Enthiran is physically missing here, she makes regular phone calls just in case Vasi (read audience) forgets her.

Coming to the plot, one fine day all the mobile phones in and around Chennai city vanish off. Ministers, police officials, telecom engineers and scientists have regular round table conferences but they fail to understand the phenomenon behind this cell phone missing. The ever-brilliant Vaseegaran cracks it and finds that it has something to do with birds and cell phone radiations. I’m not going further as the plot is wafer-thin and anything more will end up as spoilers. How Vasi and his robot gang (Nila, Chitti, 2.0 and more) put an end to this threat is the basic thread. And, along with that there’s the quintessential social message angle as well.

As we already know, Shankar is someone with the wildest of imaginations and he always tries to assemble the best team possible to turn all that he visualizes into a reality. In most cases, it has worked and 2.0 is no exception. Should say it has worked big time in 2.0. With an international technical crew like this and a production house like Lyca willing to shower crores, Shankar has made sure that he gets the best possible output.
Lately, it has mostly been Shankar, the showman and not the story-teller. That’s exactly the case with 2.0 as well as the plot is weak and doesn’t have any major surprises in store. Almost the entire story is predictable from the trailer. If only the screenplay had some brainy sequences and wow elements, 2.0 would have been a much better product. It is still a landmark film considering the grand visual treat that it offers. It is perhaps the most technically astounding film that has been made in Indian cinema; be it the awesome 3D experience, or the immersive sound design or the staggering visual effects.

On the performance side, Rajinikanth looked odd as Chitti but the moment he stepped in as 2.0, sparks flied and how! He literally owned the screen from then on with his devilish swagger and the badass attitude, something that only he can pull of with so much aplomb. The Rajini-esque moments that have been missing in his recent films are back here and all credits to Shankar for that. The director is well aware that whatever visual spectacle he comes up with, ultimately it’s a Rajini film and common audience would love to see the superstar’s trademark elements.

Akshay Kumar is solid as the antagonist and his performance in the flashback is one of the major take-aways in the film. AR Rahman’s beautifully composed ‘Pullinangal’ song helps in conveying the emotions perfectly. Amy Jackson is used as the comic relief and gladly there is no parallel robo-romance-track, though there were slight hints to it. It was an apt call to use ‘Enthira Logathu Sundariye’ at the end credits as it would have come in as a major hindrance in the film.
Overall, 2.0 is a visual marvel that you ought to enjoy in a 3D screen . It’s not everyday that films of such big scale and technical quality are made in Indian cinema. It’s not a flawless film but it still deserves a big-screen watch.
