‘Indian 2’, the much talked about Kamal Haasan starrer is getting ready to go on floors. Art director Muthuraj recently started the set works. Shoot is expected to commence with a brief schedule in Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. The movie which is the sequel to Kamal’s classic hit, ‘Indian’, will be directed by Shankar, who helmed the first part as well.

Though the makers have not officially announced the cast and crew details, social medias are abuzz with several speculations. It is said that young stars Simbu and Dulquer Salmaan will be playing crucial roles in the movie. Buzz is that Simbu will be playing the role of a police officer in the movie. If the news turns out to be true, expectations for the movie will be multi-fold as both Simbu and Dulquer enjoy massive fan base among the youth.

Kajal Agarwal is most likely to be the female lead. Ravi Varman is the cinematographer and Anirudh will be the music director. Shankar is scripting the movie and dialogues are being penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Lyca Productions is backing the movie.

‘Indian 2’ will have Kamal Haasan reprising his role of Senapathi, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante. His stellar perfomance in a dual role in the original film won him a National award. The movie was also India’s official submission for the Academy Award for best foreign language film in 1996. Unlike Shankar’s other recent films, ‘Indian 2’ will not have much VFX or CG works, so the makers are planning to release the movie in 2019 itself.

Vijay’s Sarkar grosses Rs 200 crore worldwide!

Despite the mixed reviews and the controversies, Sarkar continues to create new records at the box office. Releasing on Diwali day, the movie opened to massive figures, both the domestic and international market. After a week of its release, it has been reported that the movie has successfully crossed the Rs 200 crore mark. Leading trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai has tweeted,

#Sarkar Worldwide gross has crossed the magic ₹200 Cr in its first week. Humongous numbers and does South Indian Cinema Proud. Cheers to #ThalapathyVijay, @ARMurugadoss @sunpictures and rest of cast, crew and all those who marketed it around the globe.

Sarkar directed by AR Murugadoss is a political drama that stresses on the importance of voting and the need for a strong opposition in a democracy. Several political events that occured in the recent years in Tamil Nadu have been included in the film. The makers have also criticized the policy of public accepting money for votes and some of the governments schemes.

A particular scene in the movie where the characters are shown throwing freebies into fire had stirred a huge controversy in the state. The ruling AIADMK initiated protests claiming that the makers have shown the government’s freebie policy in bad light. Eventually, the makers had to give in and remove the scenes to avoid further issues.

Vijay’s ever growing stardom and the buzz created by the controversies has worked in the movie’s favour. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie is also doing tremendously well in Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and in all major overseas centres. It is most likely to end its theatrical run as the highest grosser in Tamil film industry.

Ever since the release of ‘Aramm’ in November last year, there have been reports about the possibility of a sequel for the movie. Latest reports suggest that the second part will go on floors by February next year. Director Gopi Nainar has informed that the movie will continue to address important social issues and will be more hard-hitting than the first part. Reports suggest that the sequel will discuss about caste and religion based discrimination. While rumours had it that Nayanthara would be playing a politician in the film, the makers have still not confirmed it.

Critics as well as the commoners unanimously rated it as her career best performance and the movie rode solely on her popularity among the masses. Buzz is that Ajith’s Viswasam and Rajinikanth’s Petta are eyeing the festive season. Ad per latest reports, Viswasam will be releasing on January 10 and Petta on the next day (January 11). If it materializes, it will be the biggest box office contest in recent Tamil cinema history.

Dileep to visit Bangkok for Professor Dinkan shoot

Dileep’s Professor Dinkan has been in the making for a long time now. The movie got delayed due to multiple reasons which includes the actor’s arrest. Shoot is nearing completion with only an overseas schedule left. The makers have planned to shoot the portions in Bangkok. Dileep has been permitted by the court to travel abroad for the movie’s shoot. He has been allowed permission from November 15 to the first week of January.

‘Professor Dinkan’ is directed by veteran cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Ramachandra Babu. It is an ambitious film made in 3D format. Rafi has scripted the movie which has Dileep playing the lead role of a magician. The team will be filming a couple of action sequences in the Bangkok schedule. Kaecha is popular for his works in movies like ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Bhaagi,’ ‘Vishwaroopam’, ‘Aarambam’, ‘Billa 2’ etc. His work in ‘Professor Dinkan’ will be totally different from what he has done so far as the movie, according to reports, is not an action-entertainer but a spectacle-heavy one.

‘Professor Dinkan’ revolves around an ambitious magician whose aim is to astonish the world with a risky magic trick. But one such attempts fails miserably and ends up affecting a lot of people. How he tries to patch up with the people and undo the damage through minor magic tricks forms the plot. Namitha Pramod, Srinda, Aju Varghese and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are also part of the cast. The movie is being produced by Sanal Thottam under the banner of New TV.

Sarkar team get together for success celebration!

As Sarkar continues to create new records at the box office, the core team got together last day for success celebration. Vijay, director AR Murugadoss, music director AR Rahman, lyricist Vivek and the two lead ladies- Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar were present for the celebration. AR Rahman posted the photos on his social media handle. Interestingly, the team celebrated by cutting a cake that had icing designed as a mixie and grinder.

It must be noted that Sarkar team had to go through lot of trouble after the ruling AIADMK initiated protests claiming that the makers have shown the government’s freebie policy in bad light. They had demanded the removal of a particular scene in the movie where the characters are shown throwing freebies into fire. Director AR Murugadoss had also made a cameo appearance in the scene. Eventually, the makers had to give in and cut the scenes to avoid further issues. By using mixie and grinder shaped icing, the Sarkar team has taken a clear jibe at the intolerant politicians.

From its first six days of theatrical run, Sarkas has done a whopping bussiness of over Rs 150 crores worldwide. Opening on Diwali day, the movie took the box office by storm by earning a net business of Rs 35 crore. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie is also doing tremendously well in Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and in all major overseas centres. It is most likely to end its theatrical run as the highest grosser in Tamil cinema.

Widespread appreciation for Nimisha’s performance in Oru Kuprasidha Payyan

Widespread appreciation for Nimisha’s performance in Oru Kuprasidha Payyan

‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’ (OKP) continues to get good response from the audience. Directed by Madhupal, the movie is a murder mystery based on some real life incidents. Tovino Thomas, Anu Sithara, Nimisha Sajayan, Saranya Ponvannan and Nedumudi Venu play major roles in the movie. The movie has opened to largely positive reviews from critics and common audience alike.

Though there are mixed opinions about Tovino’s performance, it is Nimisha who has been earning unanimous praise. The actress plays the role of a rookie advocate in film. Despite making her entry only in the second half, Nimisha has managed to trump all others in the movie with her earnest performance. Her character Hanna Elizabeth is a representative of the working class women in the society. She is someone who strives hard to make her own identity in her male dominated profession. To her credit, she shares most of her scenes with veterans like Nedumudi Venu and Siddique. Despite that she manages to stand out with a very convincing act.

The three-film-old Nimisha has already made a mark for herself in the industry courtesy her strong performances in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ and ‘Eeda’. As words of appreciation continue to pour in social medias, ‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’ is another film that the talented actress can be proud of.
