Thalapathy 63: Vijay’s next to be a sports-based film?

Amidst huge buzz, the official announcement of actor Vijay’s new film was made last day through social medias. The star is reuniting with his ‘Mersal’ team and AGS Entertainment is producing the movie. After the blockbuster success of ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’, director Atlee and Vijay are chasing a hattrick of hits this time. In an official statement released by the makers, it has been made clear that Vijay is attempting a new genre in this film.

In the official statement, AGS Entertainment said: “We are putting together the best global talent to attempt a genre that will be the first of its kind for Thalapathy Vijay.” There is a strong buzz that this new film is a sports-based entertainer and Vijay is said to be essaying the role of a coach. Though Vijay has acted in a sportsman’s role in films like ‘Azhakiya Tamizh Makan’ and ‘Ghilli’, they were not full fledged sports films. It will be exciting to see the actor in a never-before-seen role.

Recently, director Atlee had visited a few colleges in Tamil Nadu to finalize the locations. The makers are yet to announce the cast details but speculations are rife that Nayanthara will be heroine and veteran actor Vivek will also be there in a crucial role. On the technical front, Atlee has retained the core team from ‘Mersal’. Music will be handled by maestro AR Rahman, his third successive film with Vijay after ‘Mersal’ and ‘Sarkar’. DOP GK Vishnu, editor Antony Ruben, lyricist Vivek and stunt choreographer Anal Arasu are on board. Shoot for the movie will be commencing early next year.

The official trailer of Vishnu Unnikrishnan starrer ‘Nithya Haritha Nayakan’ has been released by actor Nivin Pauly through his official social media handle. The movie directed by debutant AR Binuraj marks the maiden production venture of Dharmajan Bolgatty. He is jointly funding the movie with Manu Thachett of Aditya Creations. Along with releasing the trailer, Nivin also wished the team luck. He has written,

Jayagopal is touted to be an out an out fun entertainer on the lines of Vishnu’s previous films like ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’ and ‘Vikadakumaran’. The movie also stars Dharmajan, Indrans, Manju Pillai, Kochu Preman, Basil Joseph, Akhilanath, Jayasree Shivadas, Raveena Ravi, Sivakami, Jaffer Idukki, Bijukkuttan, Sruthi, Jayakumar, Anju Aravind, Master Aron, Gayathri, Saju Navodhaya and Sunil Sugatha in supporting roles.

‘Nithya Haritha Nayakan’ technical crew comprises of composer Ranjin Raj, cinematographer- Pavi K Pavan and editor Noufal Abdulla. The movie is all set to hit screens this Friday (November 16)

Official: ‘Mersal’ team reunite for ‘Thalapathy 63’

As informed earlier, the official announcement of actor Vijay’s new movie was made today with a press release. Director Atlee is reuniting with Vijay after the blockbuster success of ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’. So the duo is coming together this time eyeing a hattrick of hits. The movie tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 63’ will be produced by AGS Entertainment. The team had a small pooja function in Chennai today.

For his new film, Atlee has retained the core team from ‘Mersal’. Music will be handled by maestro AR Rahman, his third successive film with Vijay after ‘Mersal’ and ‘Sarkar’. GK Vishnu is the cinematographer and Vivek is the lyricist. Anal Arasu will be choreographing the action sequences.

Atlee, a self-confessed Vijay fan, had recently said that their new film will be entirely different from their previous two films. He is quoted saying, “I feel more courageous and more responsible. I wish to do something which wasn’t done before. I’ve got a good lead. Expect the unexpected.”

More details regarding the female lead and other cast members will be announced soon. The makers are planning to have a look test for all the actors, following which shoot will be commencing early next year.

It goes without saying that Tamil movies have a huge following in Kerala. Most of the big star films enjoy a massive opening here, the most recent example being ‘Sarkar’. The Vijay starrer is the current record holder for the highest opening day grosser in Kerala. The next biggie coming from Tamil cinema is ‘2.0’, the hugely hyped sci-fi flick starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar. Inspired by the success of movies like ‘Sarkar’ and ‘Baahubali’, 2.0’s distribution rights have been sold for a huge amount.

As per latest reports, Tomichan Mulakupadam’s Mulakupadam Films have acquired the Kerala rights of 2.0. It is said that the rights have been bagged for Rs 14 crores, which is one of the highest ever for a non-Malayalam movie in Kerala. Mulakupadam Films had previously distributed Ajith’s ‘Vivegam’ in Kerala, but the movie bombed at the box office.

Confirimg the news about 2.0 rights, trade analyst Ramesh Bala has tweeted,

As we already know, Joju George is playing the lead in an upcoming movie titled, ‘Joseph’. The movie is gearing up to storm screens this Friday (November 16). The intriguing teaser and songs had caught the attention of social media users. The movie is directed by M Padmakumar, noted for his films like ‘Vargam’, ‘Vasthavam’ and ‘Shikkar’.

Joju George is one of the most reliable supporting actors we have in Malayalam cinema today. Lately, the actor has been doing many performance-oriented roles in movies like ‘Ramante Edanthottam’, ‘Udhaharanam Sujatha’ and ‘Njan Marykutty.’ In ‘Joseph’, he is playing the role of a retired police officer and sports an old man’s look. We can expect another solid performance from him.

‘Joseph’ scripted by Shahi Kabir comes with an interesting tagline, ‘Man with the scar’. From the tagline, we presume that the movie deals with some dark chapters in a police man’s life. Joju himself is producing the movie under his own banner. Besides that he is also donning the singer’s hat. The song, ‘Pandu Paadavarambathiloode’, which he has rendered along with Benedict Shine is already a hit in the cyber space.

The release date announcement has come as a big surprise as the movie’s shoot was only wrapped up recently. The team shot the movie in various locations in Tamil Nadu and across North India. They completed the entire shoot 15 days ahead of the orginally planned time. It looks like the makers were eager to cash in on the long Pongal weekned. So, as informed by us earlier, Kollywood will be witnessing a big box office clash between Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’.

Directed by Karthik Subbraj, ‘Petta’ is touted to be an action packed thriller. The movie has a huge star cast, probably the biggest that Tamil cinema has seen in recent years. Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Sasikumar and Megha Akash will be seen in major roles. Guru Somasundaram, Munishkanth Ramdoss, Mahendran, Manikandan Achari, Sanath Reddy, Deepak Paramesh and ‘Aadukalam’ Naren are also part of the supporting cast.

‘Petta’ technical crew includes National award winning cinematographer Tirru, composer Anirudh, editor Vivek Harshan and action choreographer Peter Hein. Kalanithi Maran is producing the movie under the banner of Sun Pictures.

Suriya fans as well as the general audience are eagerly waiting for the release of NGK. The movie directed by Selvaraghavan is currently in the final stages of shoot. The last schedule will be commencing this month-end and the makers are planning to wrap up by the entire shoot next month. If things go as per plans, the movie will be hitting screens on January 26, as a grand Republic Day release. An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited.

NGK is a political thriller in which Suriya plays an MLA. It is said to be one of the most challenging roles that the actor has done in his career. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the two female leads while Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu will be seen as the villain. Nothing much is known about the film as the makers have been tight-lipped about the plot.

Selvaraghavan is a highly revered filmmaker and enjoys a huge fan following among the Tamil audience. As he is teaming up with Suriya for the first time, expectations are on the higher side. The movie was supposed to hit screens much earlier but had to be postponed due to be various reasons.

Reports suggest that the makers are in no hurry to finish the movie as they want Selvaraghavan to take his time and make it in his trademark style. With the censoring done, all decks are cleared for a grand release on November 29. The makers are planning it as the biggest ever release in Indian cinema history. The presence of two big superstars in Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is expected to do wonders for the movie at the box office.

2.0 directed by Shankar is a highly ambitious sci-fi flick that is a continuation of his 2010 film, Enthiran. Rajinikanth continues his roles of scientist Vaseegaran and robot Chitti, while Akshay Kumar plays an evil scientist. Amy Jackson plays the female lead. From the glimpses we got to see in the teaser and making videos, the movie promises to be visual extravaganza, something of the sort that is never-before-seen in Indian cinema.

Lyca Productions is funding this mega budget movie. The makers have claimed to have invested a whopping Rs 600 crore in the movie, which easily makes it the most expensive film ever made in Indian cinema.
