Suresh Gopi’s son Gokul Suresh and Maniyan Pilla Raju’s Niranj are among the latest in the club of celebrity kids in Malayalam cinema. The duo is coming together for the first time for a fun entertainer titled ‘Soothrakkaran’. The first look poster of the movie was released today in social medias. The movie has Varsha Bollamma of ‘Kalyanam’ and ‘Mandharam’ fame playing the female lead. Soothrakkaran is being directed by debutant Anil R Raj. It is being produced under the banner of Smruthi Cinemass.

Niranj is noted for his movies like Black Butterfly and Bobby. He is also playing a crucial role in the upcoming Mohanlal starrer Drama, directed by Ranjith. Gokul Suresh, meanwhile is busy with multiple projects in his kitty. He along with Dhyan Sreenivasan are playing the lead roles in debutant Arun Chandu’s ‘Sayahna Varthakal’. He has also signed for noted scriptwriter Suresh Poduval’s directorial comeback, Ulta. He is also in talks for a couple of other projects, official announcements regarding the same are expected to be made shortly.

Kayamkulam Kochunni to hit screens on Nivin Pauly’s birthday

After all the waiting, Rosshan Andrrews’ period flick Kayamkulam Kochunni has finally got a release date. The movie is scheduled to hit screens on October 11, which also happens the birthday of lead actor Nivin Pauly. This is by far the biggest project in Nivin’s career and releasing on his birthday makes it even more special for the actor. The movie was initially slated for release during the Onam season but had to be postponed due to the floods.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is gearing up for release amidst massive hype. Along with Nivin Pauly, the presence of Mohanlal in the past is the movie’s major selling point. While Nivin plays the role of Kochunni, Mohanlal will be seen in an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. The two actors are coming together for the first time, and fans are highly excited about it. The makers are planning to grab more than 300 screens in Kerala alone. They have already acquired license for six shows on opening day, which starts with the first show from morning 7 AM.

Made on a budget of Rs 45 crores, Kayakulam Kochunni is one of the most expensive movies ever made in Malayalam cinema. Gokulam Gopalan has produced the movie under his banner Sri Gokulam Films.

Grand audio launch planned for Vijay’s Sarkar!!

Thalapathy Vijay’s Sarkar is gearing up to hit screens in November. This AR Murugadoss directorial has massive expectations as Vijay’s previous two outings (Thupakki and Kaththi) with the director were hugely successful. As the release date is closing in, the makers have started the promotion works. After the single release last week, it has now been announced that a grand audio launch will be held on October 2 in Chennai.

Generally, audio launch events are recorded and telecast at a later date, but for Sarkar, Sun TV will be telecasting the programme live. Many big names from the Tamil film industry are expected to attend the event. There is also a buzz that AR Rahman will be performing live in the function. Last time for Mersal’s audio launch, the Academy award winner had performed all the songs in front of a live audience. Vijay fans are expecting another cracker of an album like Mersal, though the first single ‘Simtaangaran’ failed to live up to the hype.

Sarkar is a political thriller that reportedly has Vijay playing a multi-millionaire techie. Keerthy Suresh plays his romantic interest while Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar is also there in a important character. Pala Karuppaiah, Radha Ravi, Livingston, Yogi Babu, Prem and many others are part of the supporting cast. Its technical team includes AR Rahman, Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan and ace editor Sreekar Prasad.

Sarkar is scheduled to hit screens worldwide for Deepavali, on November 6.

Debutant director Prasobh Vijayan’s Lilli had released last day in a good number of screens in Kerala. The movie stars ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon in the titular role. Lilli has opened to excellent reviews from all corners. Critics have all been hearing praised the young team for delivering something unique and unseen in Malayalam cinema. Lilli is basically the story of how a pregnant woman manages to escape from her kidnappers.

Prasobh Vijayan, who has also scripted the movie, has made no compromises as there is an excessive usage of violence. The movie was rightly censored with an A certificate, for it has several spine chilling moments. Critics have unanimously praised this very aspect on how honestly the movie has been made without any sort of commercial gimmicks.

Most female-oriented films in Malayalam have dealt with the subject of mental stubbornness but Lilli is perhaps the first film that explored the physical side of a woman. How good is a woman’s survival instincts and how long can she keep fighting? Lilli gives the answer.

Despite having no big star presence, Lilli had managed to create a good pre-release buzz courtesy the intriguing posters and promos. The posters and trailer hinted at a hard-hitting thriller and eventually, the movie has turned out to be exactly the same way. Combined with the stellar performances of the newcomers, it is a film that deserves all the appreciation.

Lilli is the maiden venture of E4 Entertainment’s new banner E4 Experiment. Their objective is to promote young talents by funding low-budget films. Lilli is a path-breaking film in that aspect and if it manages to do well at the box office, it will definitely inspire several other newcomers to come up with fresh, innovative ideas.

The cast of Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is getting bigger day by day. Seems like Priyadarshan is in the process of assembling an ensemble of actors. While Mohanlal plays the lead role, the movie also has his son Pranav, Prabhu, Arjun and Suneil Shetty in major roles. Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh and Kalyani Priyadarshan are said to be playing the female leads. Latest to join the cast is Mukesh, who is a regular in Priyadarshan films.

In Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham, Mukesh is reportedly playing the role of Samoothiri. Zamorin aka Samoothiri is the title of the Hindu monarch of the Kingdom of Calicut. The movie is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, whose duty was to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army.

Mukesh as the Samoothiri has a very prominent character to play in the movie. It is said to be the most challenging role in his three decade long career. This is also the first time Mukesh is being part of a period flick. Markkar.. is set in the 15th century and is being planned as a semi-fictious film with bits of history and imagination.

Mohanlal plays the fourth Markkar and Pranav plays the younger part of his character. Veteran actor Madhu has been signed to essay the role of the first of the four Markkars, Kutyali Marakkar. Arjun and Suniel Shetty’s characters are also based on real-life people Since not much is known about them in history, the makers have taken the liberty to present a fictionalized version.

This epic film is planned to be made on a budget of Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are coming together to produce what is one of the most expensive projects in Malayalam cinema till date. The movie is set to go on floors by mid-November.

As we already know, Mohanlal is reuniting with director Ranjith after a brief gap with the upcoming movie ‘Drama’. The movie is all set to hit screens on November 1, Kerala Piravi Day. The makers have how informed that the first look will be released on Monday (October 1) through Mohanlal’s official Facebook page.

Drama is a fun entertainer that is anything unlike Mohanlal-Ranjith combo’s previous films. The duo is well known for their mass entertainers but Drama is be a film without any superstar elements. Ranjith has scripted it as a feel-good movie with good dose of humour, sentiments and family drama. After a long gap, Mohanlal is playing a fun role. The movie’s earlier released teaser also gave hints of a full-on fun entertainer.

Drama’s story is set entirely in the UK. The movie revolves around a middle-aged couple. Mohanlal plays the role of Rajasekharan aka Raju while Asha Sarath will be seen as his wife Rekha. The cast also has Arundhathi Nag, Niranj Maniyan Pilla Raju, Siddique, Dileesh Pothan, Shyamaprasad, Kaniha, Subi Suresh, Johny Antony, Renji Panicker, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom and Baiju in supporting roles.

MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing Drama under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions.

Confirmed: ‘Take Off’ director Mahesh Narayanan’s next is with Dulquer Salmaan

For a while now, there has been a buzz that Dulquer’s next in Malayalam will be with Mahesh Narayanan of ‘Take Off’ fame. Composer Gopi Sunder confirmed it today with a post in his social media handle. He shared a few photos from one of their discussion sessions. Sanu John Varghese, who has cranked camera for movies like ‘Vishwaroppam’, ‘Wazir’ and ‘Take Off’ is also part of the team. Other details about the movie’s genre or when they are planning to goes on floors have not yet been revealed.

‘Take Off’ was the directorial debut of ace editor Mahesh Narayanan. The movie emerged as a huge success, both critically and and commercially. It also bagged several awards at the state and national level, including a special jury award for the director at the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI, Goa). When Mahesh teams up with a star like Dulquer Salmaan, expectations are bound to be on the higher side. Fans are already excited about the project.

Dulquer is currently shooting for his Hindi film ‘The Zoya Factor’. After its completion, he will be joining the final schedule of ‘Oru Yemandan Premakadha’ in November. His next to hit screens will be the Tamil rom-com, ‘Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal’. A romantic travelogue ‘Vaan’ with debutant Ra Karthik is also in the pipeline.

The poster features an extremely stylish Vijay and he fits the bill perfectly as a multimillionaire businessman. The movie directed by AR Murugadoss is touted to be a political thriller. It is being produced under the banner of Sun Pictures.

Bollywood’s love for biopics continue as yet another famous sportsperson is getting one. After Mary Kom, Milkha Singh, MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin, a biopic is now being made on badminton ace, Saina Nehwal. Sharddha Kapoor is playing the shuttler’s role in the movie directed by Amol Gupte. The movie has been titled as ‘Saina’ and its first look was unveiled today in social medias.

For the last few months, Shraddha Kapoor had been training hard for her role under Indian Badminton team coach Pullela Gopichand. Saina is the only Indian female badminton player to be ranked as World No 1. Her 2012 Olympic bronze medal win remains a defining moment in Indian sporting history. She has also won the badminton singles Commonwealth Gold for the country in 2010, and then again in 2018.

Earlier, Shraddha had expressed her happiness in being part of Saina’s biopic. She is quoted saying, “Most girls have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who’s not just been the world’s No. 1 badminton player, but is also a youth icon. I’ve already clocked 40 classes of badminton in preparation for this biopic. It’s a really tough sport, but I am enjoying myself.”

Saina is also delighted about Shraddha playing her character in the biopic.

“It’s great if Shraddha plays me because she is a very talented actress and very hardworking. I am sure she will do justice to the role. The best part is, she is a good friend as well. So it will be easier to teach her some badminton skills. A lot of people did tell me that we do look similar and I think that’s a huge compliment, because Shraddha is very good looking.”

Bhushan Kumar of T-series is producing this movie, which went on floors on September 22.

As we already know, Suriya and Malayalam superstar are coming together for the first time with KV Anand’s new film. Shoot for the movie is currently progressing in Noida. The movie reportedly has Suriya in the role a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer and Mohanlal as a politician. A few location stills have triggered the theories, but the news is yet to be confirmed by the makers.

Suriya had recently met some reputed NSG officials during his shoot in Noida. He even shared a couple of photos taken with the officials in his social media handle. Suriya met brigadier Gautham Ganguly and wrote,

Suriya is sporting an army man like stiff look in this schedule. During the first schedule in London, he was seen in a fully bearded avatar. Mohanlal is shooting with a salt and pepper look for the movie.
It is said that his character of a politician is a grey shaded one. Interestingly, he is playing a politician in ‘Lucifer’ as well.
