Padayottam Tamil remake rights sold for record price!

Biju Menon starrer Padayottam was originally supposed to hit screens for Onam. But due to the floods that struck Kerala, the movie’s release had to be postponed. It is finally getting its release this Friday (September 13). The latest we hear is that the makers have sold the movie’s Tamil remake rights for a record amount. Earlier, Surya TV had bagged the movie’s satellite rights for a huge amount. It is learnt that Padayottam is already a profitable venture for the makers.

Weekend Blockbusters, the banner which produced hit films like Bangalore Days and Padayottam, is producing this upcoming Biju Menon starrer. Debutant Rafeek Ibrahim is directing this movie, which has been publicized as a serious comedy. The promos have all been promising and the movie looks like a laugh riot.

Padayottam is scripted jointly by newcomers Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. According to the makers, the movie is a serious comedy on the lines of films like ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Jigarthanda’. The movie has Biju Menon playing the role of Chenkal Raju, a pucca-gangster based in Trivandrum. He is seen sporting a rugged mass look in the movie. It also has a host of supporting actors like Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Anu Sithara, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Basil Joseph, Sudhi Koppa and Hareesh Kanaran.

Sivakarthikeyan’s Seemaraja is gearing up to hit screens this Thursday (September 13), on the occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi. The makers are eyeing a grand opening with public holiday followed by weekend. Sivakarthikeyan’s immense popularity among the family audience is expected to do wonders for the movie at the box office. As the release date is nearing, a few promo cuts from the movie have been released.

Seemaraja marks Sivakarthikeyan’s third time association with director Ponram. Like their previous films,
Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan, this one is also a rural mass-comedy entertainer.
The movie has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time in the movie. Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role.

Simran, one of the leading heroines of her time, is playing one of the antagonists in the movie. Malayali actor Lal, Soori, Napoleon, KS Ravikumar, Motta Rajendran, Sathish, Yogi Babu and Manobala are also part of the supporting cast.

Seemaraja’s technical crew includes composer D Imman, DOP Balasubramaniem and National award winning editor Vivek Harshan. RD Raja js producing the movie under his banner 24 AM Studios. Sivakarthikeyan-Ponram team’s previous outings, were commercial hits. So, the duo will be hoping to continue the successful run.

Debutant Prasobh Vijayan’s Lilli is eagerly awaited by the Malayali cinephiles. So far, the promos have all been very interesting. The movie’s official trailer has been released today by actor Asif Ali.
Despite having no big star presence, Lilli has managed to create a good pre-release buzz courtesy the intriguing posters and teaser.

Prasobh Vijayan has scripted Lilli as a survival thriller, centred around a pregnant woman and a bunch of kidnappers. ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon plays the titular role while newcomers Kannan Nayar, Dhanesh Anand, Sajin Cherukayil and Kevin Jose play the other major roles.

Lilli was earlier censored with an A certificate citing some extremely raw and violent moments, a kind which is not generally seen in Malayalam cinema. From the trailer itself it is evident that Lilli will be a hard-hitting thriller. The movie’s technical crew comprises of debutant cinematographer Sreeraj Raveendran, composer Sushin Shyam and last year’s State award winning editor Appu Bhattathiri.

Lilli is the maiden venture of E4 Experiments. It is a new banner launched by E4 Entertainments with the objective of promoting young talents and doing low-budget films.

The makers have announced September 28 as the release date.

Vikram’s Saamy Square is gearing up for release. The movie directed by Hari is the sequel of the superhit cop action thriller Saamy, which was released back in 2003. After the heavily trolled first trailer, the makers have released a new one today. It is a slightly better trailer that is devoid of the colourful edits and jarring background score. From the promos, Saamy Square looks like an usual Hari film with the tried and tested mass masala formula.

Saamy Square has Keerthy Suresh and Aishwarya Rajesh as the two female leads. If reports are to be believed, the movie has Vikram playing a dual role, as Aarusaamy and his son, who is also a cop. National award winner Bobby Simha plays the antagonist, Raavana Pitchai. Prabhu, Delhi Ganesh, John Vijay, Soori and Imman Annachi are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

Shibu Thameens, who also produced Vikram’s Irumugan, is funding Saamy Square under the banner of Thameens Films.

Sarath Kumar aka Appani Sarath is a busy actor these days. Ever since he made a highly impressive debut with Angamaly Diaries, Sarath has been bagging many solid offers. Besides a handful of projects in Malayalam, he has also signed for a couple of Tamil movies, which includes the legendary Mani Ratnam’s ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’.

On the personal front also, Sarath is having a joyous time after turning a dad recently. The actor has been blessed with a baby boy. The visibly excited father took to social media to share his newborn’s photos. Last month, during the disastrous floods that rocked Kerala, Sarath’s pregnant wife and family got stuck at their home in Chengannur, one of the worst affected regions. The actor, who then was busy shooting in Chennai broke down while filming a live video, when he couldn’t connect with his family. Luckily the family was later shifted to a safe location. He later thanked everyone who helped his family and promised that he would do his best for those affected in the calamity.

Currently, Sarath has ‘Contessa’ in Malayalam gearing up for release. In Tamil, he is part of ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ and ‘Sandakozhi 2’ with Vishal. He is also playing the lead in ‘Auto Shankar’, a web series based on the real life serial killer of the same name.

If there is one film that the whole nation is eagerly looking forward to, then it has to be Shankar’s sci-fi magnum opus, 2.0. Much has been talked about this movie which marks the coming together of two of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, for the first time. Naturally, the movie has sky-high expectations among the audience.

2.0 is the continuation of Shankar-Rajinikanth team’s blockbuster film Enthiran, but it is not exactly a sequel. The new film is said to be much bigger in terms of scale and production values. The makers claim that they have invested a whopping 75 Million Dollar (Rs 541 Crore) in the movie, which easily makes it the most expensive film ever made in Indian cinema.

Director Shankar has tweeted that the movie is the result of unlimited effort of more than 3,000 technicians around the world. The team had earlier released few making videos that shows glimpses of the extraordinary VFX works that have gone into the movie’s making. VFX and animatronic works in the movie are handled by companies from more than ten different countries. Legacy Effects, Tau Films, Quantum FX and Double Negative are all involved in the post-production process.

2.0 is said to be the first Indian movie to be shot entirely in 3D format. The makers had assembled many leading technicians from India and overseas to get the best possible output. Academy Award winners AR Rahman and Resul Pookkutty handled the music and sound department respectively. Nirva Shah has cranked the camera. National award winner Srinivas Mohan has supervised the VFX works.

2.0 is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on November 29. As informed earlier by the makers, the movie’s highly anticipated teaser will be released on September 13, the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The teaser will be screened in 3D format in select theatres in India and abroad. List of theatres where the 3D teaser has been planned to be screened will be released in the next few days.

One of Mollywood’s most favorite actor-director combos, Mohanlal and Ranjith are coming together after a three-year-long gap. Their upcoming movie is Drama, a fun entertainer that is anything unlike their previous films. The movie was supposed to hit screens this month but due to the floods, films slated for Onam had to be pushed. This change in dates has affected the release of many movies including Drama. It will now reach screens on November 1, the Kerala Piravi Day.

Drama, according to the makers, is a complete entertainer without any superstar elements. After a long gap, Mohanlal is playing a fun role and so expectations are naturally on the higher side. Ranjith has scripted it as a feel-good movie with good dose of humour, sentiments and family drama. The movie’s teaser gives hints of a full-on fun entertainer.

Set entirely in the UK, the movie revolves around a middle-aged couple. Mohanlal plays the role of Rajasekharan aka Raju while Asha Sarath will be seen as his wife Rekha. The cast also has Arundhathi Nag, Niranj Maniyan Pilla Raju, Siddique, Dileesh Pothan, Shyamaprasad, Kaniha, Subi Suresh, Johny Antony, Renji Panicker, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom and Baiju in supporting roles.

MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing Drama under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions.

Handful of exciting projects coming up for Kalidas Jayaram!

After making an impressive debut as a lead actor with ‘Poomarm’, Kalidas has been bagging some very interesting projects. He has already signed for films with promising directors like Alphonse Puthren, Jeethu Joseph, Aashiq Abu, Midhun Manuel Thomas and Santhosh Sivan. He is also in talks for a movie with 100th Monkey Movies, the makers of ‘Rakshadikari Baiju’.

Even though ‘Poomaram’ failed to make waves at the box office, it garnered critical acclaim and Kaildas’ matured performance was noted. He was then signed for Alphonse Puthren’s new film, which is planned to be made in Tamil. Ever since he made the sensational ‘Premam’, the director has been on a break and so his comeback film with Kalidas is eagerly awaited.

Aashiq Abu is planning an ambitious film on the Nipah outbreak that shook the state of Kerala. The movie titled as ‘Virus’ has Kalidas as one of the leads alongside Revathy, Tovino Thomas, Parvathy, Asif Ali, Rima Kallingal, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan, Chemban Vinod Jose and Remya Nambeeshan. Virus is slated to go on floors by December.

With Midhun Manuel Thomas, Kalidas is teaming up for a fun entertainer titled ‘Argentina Fans Kattoorkadavu’. The movie has him paired opposite Aishwarya Lekshmi of ‘Mayaanadhi’ fame. The makers have planned to start shooting by the end of this year.

Kalidas is currently shooting for Jeethu Joseph’s film. The movie is rumoured to be titled as ‘Mr Rowdy’. Gokulam Gopalan’s Sree Gokulam movies is producing it in association with Vintage Films. As per reports, Aparna Balamurali has been signed as Kalidas’ pair. Shebin Benson, Ganapathi, ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’ fame Vishnu Govindan are also part of the cast. More details are expected to be made official shortly.

Another big project in Kalidas’ kitty is the one with the ace Santosh Sivan. The cinematographer-turned-filmmaker is making a comeback to Malayalam cinema after a seven-year-long gap. Kalidas, Manju Warrier and Soubin will be playing the lead roles in this yet-to-be titled movie. Reports suggest that the movie will start rolling from October. Official announcement has not yet been made.

Apart from the aforementioned projects, Kalidas has also committed for a movie with 100th Monkey Movies, the makers of ‘Rakshadikari Baiju’. Director Joshy Mathew’s son Sudip Joshy and his wife Geetika Sudip will be making their directorial debut with it.

2.0 teaser to be screened in 3D in select theatres

As informed earlier by the makers, the teaser of 2.0 will be released on September 13, the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi. There was a buzz that the teaser will also have a 3D version, and it has now been confirmed by the makers. Producers, Lyca Productions, released a statement last day informing that the teaser will be screened in 3D format in select theatres in India and abroad. The list of theatres where the 3D teaser has been planned to be screened will be released in the next few days.

2.0 is said to be the first Indian movie to be shot entirely in 3D format. The makers have invested a whopping Rs 450 crores, which makes it the most expensive Indian film ever. Ace filmmaker Shankar is directing the movie which has two of India’s biggest superstars – Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar – coming together for the first time.

While Rajinikanth appears in a dual role as scientist Vaseegaran and the robot Chitti, Akshay Kumar essays the antagonist’s role. Amy Jackson plays the female lead. Shankar has scripted the movie jointly with Jeyamohan. Many internationally acclaimed technicians are associated with 2.0.

Academy Award winners AR Rahman and Resul Pookkutty handle the music and sound department respectively. Nirva Shah has cranked the camera.
