Padayottam release postponed

Padayottam release postponed

Many promising films were scheduled for this Onam season but rain has played spoilsport. The torrential rains continue to wreak havoc in several parts of the state. Many new releases have been severely affected and the ones scheduled for Onam are being postponed one by one. Biju Menon starrer Padayottam which was slated to hit screens has been pushed to a further date.

Producer Sophia Paul informed the news about postponing through her official social media handle. Her note reads,

As a mark of our respect to the people affected by the torrential rains in the state and to show solidarity to the efforts of our government in managing the crisis, we have changed the release date (August 17) of our movie Padayottam. The new release date will be announced shortly.

Padayottam is directed by debutant Rafeek Ibrahim. The movie is scripted jointly by newcomers Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. According to the makers, it is a serious comedy on the lines of Delhi Belly and Jigarthanda. The promos have all been promising and the movie looks like a laugh riot.

For a while now, it has been speculated that Vijay’s next after Sarkar will be with Atlee. The duo had earlier teamed up for two blockbusters – Theri and Mersal. Eyeing a hattrick of hits, Atlee and Vijay are coming together once again. In a recent event, the director confirmed that he has got an interesting subject and has already started working on the script.

Atlee is quoted saying, “I feel more courageous and more responsible. I wish to do something which wasn’t done before. I’ve got a good lead. The official announcement will be made soon. Expect the unexpected.”

AGS Entertainment is reportedly funding this movie (Thalapathy 63). There is also a strong buzz going around in social medias about Bollywood beauty Kiara Advani playing the female lead. In the technical front, Atlee is most likely to retain the same team he worked with in Mersal. AR Rahman, who is also composing tunes for Sarkar, is expected to be part of Thalapathy 63 as well.

Meanwhile, Vijay has finished all his portions for Sarkar. The actor recently returned back from Las Vegas where a song sequence was shot. AR Murugadoss is directing this movie, which is touted to be a political thriller. Post-production works will commence soon and the team is working towards a grand Diwali release in November.

Tovino Thomas all set to join team Lucifer

Shoot for Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Lucifer is currently progressing. The movie which marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj is scripted by Murali Gopy. The movie touted to be a political thriller has a stellar star cast. Indrajith, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Fazil, Kalabhavan Shajon and ‘Queen’ fame Saniya Iyappan are already confirmed to be part of the movie.

Tovino Thomas, who is back from the shoot of his travel movie with Geo Baby, will soon be joining the sets of Lucifer. The actor will be part of the ongoing schedule in Trivandrum. The makers have planned a month long shoot in the capital city. Details about Tovino’s character in the movie have not been revealed but reports suggest that he is essaying a crucial part.

Lucifer, according to the makers, is a mass entertainer. Mohanlal is reportedly playing a politician’s role in the movie. The actor is seen sporting a salt and pepper hairstyle and a full-white look in the movie’s location stills. There is a buzz going around that Prithviraj is also playing an extended cameo role in the movie, but it is yet to confirmed.

After wrapping up the schedule in Trivandrum, the team will be shifiting to Mumbai and later to Dubai. Antony Perumbavoor is producing Lucifer under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Sivakarthikeyan starrer Seemaraja is getting ready for release next month. Lyric video of the song ‘Machakanni’ has been released in social medias. Composer Imman himself has rendered this track, lyrics for which is penned by Yughabarathi. It is a romantic song featuring the lead pair, Sivakarthikeyan and Samantha.

From the promos, Seemaraja promises to be a typical rural mass entertainer. The movie is directed by Ponram, marking his third time collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan after the blockbusters, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan.

Seemaraja has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. ‘Remo’ actress Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role in Seemaraja. Simran, one of the leading heroines of her time, is playing a negative role in Seemaraja. Malayali actor Lal, Soori, Napoleon, KS Ravikumar, Motta Rajendran, Sathish, Yogi Babu and Manobala are also part of the supporting cast.

D Imman is handling the music department in Seemaraja. Balasubramaniem wields the camera and National award winner Vivek Harshan is editing the movie.
Seemaraja is funded by RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios. The audio launch event, which was held on August 3 in Madurai, will be telecast in Sun TV on August and 15.

If its Eid for Bollywood and Diwali for Kollywood, then its Onam for Mollywood. The Onam race is about to kick-start this Friday (August 17) with the release of Padayottam.

Starring Biju Menon in the lead, Padayottam is publicized as a serious comedy. Debutant Rafeek Ibrahim is directing this movie. The promos have all been promising and the movie looks like a laugh riot. Recently, the movie was censored with a clean U certificate. It has a run time of 2 hrs and 14 minutes. Zee Keralam have reportedly bagged the movie’s satellite rights for Rs 2.70 crores

Padayotttam has Biju Menon playing the role of Chenkal Raju, a pucca-gangster based in Trivandrum. The actor is seen sporting a rugged mass look in the movie. The movie has a host of supporting actors like Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Anu Sithara, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Basil Joseph, Sudhi Koppa and Hareesh Kanaran.

Padayottam is scripted jointly by newcomers Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. According to the makers, the movie is a serious comedy on the lines of Delhi Belly and Jigarthanda. Satheesh Kurup is the cinematographer and Prashanth Pillai is handling the music department. Sophia Paul is producing the movie under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters.

Surya TV bags Drama satellite rights for a huge amount

One of Mollywood’s all-time favorite combos, Mohanlal and Ranjith are coming together after a three-year-long gap. Their upcoming movie Drama is eagerly awaited by Malayali movie lovers. Unlike the duo’s previous films, Drama will not have any superstar elements. After a long gap, Mohanlal is playing a fun role and so expectations are naturally on the higher side.

Surya TV has bagged the movie’s satellite rights for a whopping Rs 6.25 crores. Mohanlal’s stardom and the fact that Drama is a family entertainer has helped the movie in bagging such a big deal. Ranjith has scripted it as a feel-good movie with good dose of humour, sentiments and family drama. The movie’s teaser gave hints of a full-on fun entertainer.

Drama, set entirely in UK, revolves around a middle-aged couple. Asha Sarath plays Mohanlal’s pair in the movie. It also has Arundhathi Nag, Niranj Maniyan Pilla Raju, Siddique, Johny Antony, Renji Panicker, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom and Baiju as part of the cast. The makers have announced that the official trailer will be released tomorrow (August 15) through Mohanlal’s Facebook handle.

MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing Drama under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions. The movie is expected to hit screens on September 14, but an official word has not yet been given.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is all to storm screens for Onam. The movie directed by Rosshan Andrrews has Nivin Pauly in the titular role. As the release date is nearing, promotion works are progressing in full swing. The makers have released a new song from the movie. This track titled ‘Nrithageethikalennum’, is composed by Gopi Sunder and rendered by Pushpavathy Poyapadathu. Shobin Kanangattu has penned the lyrics.

The song video features Nivin Pauly and Moroccan-Canadian dancer Nora Fatehi. The latter has performed for similar songs in movies like Oopiri, Rocky Handsome, Temper etc. But it was the song ‘Manohari’ from SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning that made her hugely popular among the youth. This particular song in Kayamkulam Kochunni was shot in huge sets erected in Goa.

Bobby-Sanjay have scripted the movie based on the life of Kochunni, a popular highwayman who lived in the 18th century. Along with Nivin Pauly, Mohanlal is also there in an extended cameo role as Ithikkara Pakki. Sunny Wayne, Priya Anand, Shine Tom Chacko and Babu Antony are also part of the cast.

Last day, Kayamkulam Kochunni was censored with a clean U certificate. The makers have planned to host a special screening in Mumbai for selected invitees. Release date is yet to be announced officially.

Mammootty starrer Oru Kuttanadan Blog is gearing up to hit screens as a grand Onam release. The movie which marks the directorial debut of Sethu is touted to be a feel-good fun entertainer. From the trailer and promos, the movie looks like a rural drama with all entertaining elements that families seek during this festival season.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog scripted by Sethu is set in a village named Krishnapuram. Mammootty plays the role of Hari, a big-brother like figure who is fondly called as Hari ettan in the locality. Jacob Gregory, Shaheen Siddique, Vivek Gopan, Sanju Sivaram and Jude Anthany Joseph play his close acquaintances.

The movie is narrated interestingly through various episodes of a blog. Sanju Sivaram plays the blogger’s role in the movie. His character Sudhi writes blogs about his place, people and the incidents that occur there. Sanju has a prominent role to play in the movie. The actor says sharing screen space with Mammootty was a dream-come-true moment. According to him, shooting with veterans like Mammootty, Nedumudi Venu and Siddique was like a learning experience. He also expressed his gratitude to director Sethu for providing him such a big opportunity.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog has Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim as the female leads. Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vineeth Kumar, Lalu Alex, Thesni Khan, Nandan Unni and Sohan Seenulal are also part of the supporting cast. The movie is being produced by Murali Dharan and Santha Murali under the banner of Anantha Vision. Release date is yet to be announced officially.

Ranam satellite rights goes for a huge price!

Prithviraj, who returned back to winning ways with Koode, is currently awaiting the release of Ranam. The movie directed by Nirmal Sahadev has been slated for release on September 6. Also starring Rahman and Isha Talwar in major roles, Ranam is touted to be an action-thriller. Expectations are high for the movie among the cinephiles thanks to its highly impressive teasers and posters.

Staying true to the hype, the movie’s satellite rights have been acquired by Asianet TV for 4.20 crores. The channel also acquired the rights for Prithviraj’s recently released romantic flick, My Story. However, its exact rights amount has not yet been disclosed.

Nirmal Sahadev, a former associate of the ace Shyamaprasad, is making his directorial debut with Ranam. From its super promising promos, the movie does not look like a typical action entertainer. It has a style that instantly reminds one of Hollywood action flicks. Shot entirely in the US, the movie explores the lives of the immigrant community in Detroit, Michigan.

Prithviraj reportedly plays a Tamil street gang member in the movie, which is inspired by real life incidents. Rahman plays a gangster named Damodar Ratnam. Ashwin K Kumar and Sampath Raj are also there in crucial roles. Its technical crew comprises of cinematographer Jigme Tenzing, composer Jakes Bejoy, editor Sreejith Sarang and Christopher Brunetti, a renowned stuntman who has worked in many Hollywood movies.

Ranam is produced jointly by Anand Kumar Payyanur of Yes Cinema Company and Rani Lawson Biju of Lawson Entertainment.
