Biju Menon and Udhayakrishna to team up for a comedy entertainer

Biju Menon’s last few releases – Rosapoo, Sherlock Toms, Orayiram Kinakkal failed to create an impact at the box office. But the actor still has some exciting projects in the pipeline. Adding one more to the kitty, Biju Menon has signed for a comedy entertainer with Suresh Divakar of ‘Ivan Maryadharaman’ fame. Udhayakrishna is scripting this movie touted to be a full on comedy entertainer.

Saptha Tarang Cinema, the banner which produced the recent superhit Panchavarnathatha, is funding this Biju Menon starrer as well. More details regarding the cast and crew or when the project goes on floors have not yet been announced.

Biju Menon is currently awaiting the release of Padayottam in which he plays the role of a Trivandrum based gangster Chenkal Raju. Debutant Rafeek Ibrahim is directing the movie which according to the makers is a serious comedy on the lines of Delhi Belly and Jigarthanda.

Biju Menon has also committed for movies with Lal Jose and G Prajith of ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ fame. Sajeev Pazhoor, who won the National Film Award for best screenplay writer for Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. (TD) is scripting Prajith’s movie.

Vijay Superum Pournamiyum: Asif Ali’s next with Jis Joy to start rolling by July!

There was a time when Asif Ali was known for doing the most number of movies in a year in Malayalam cinema. But of late, the actor has been very choosy and has cut down the number of projects. This year, he has had only one release so far – B Tech and the movie is doing fairly well in the theatres. He also has Mandharam and Iblis coming up.

Asif Ali is also teaming up with director Jis Joy for a new movie titled Vijay Superum Pournamiyum. This is the actor-director duo’s third outing together after Bicycle Thieves and Sunday Holiday. While Bicycle Thieves was an average grosser, Sunday Holiday, released last year, was a superhit success. It was one of the biggest hits in Mollywood last year. The movie enjoyed a theatrical run of over 100 days in a good number of centres.

For their upcoming movie, Vijay Superum Pouranamiyum, the makers have signed Mamta Mohandas as the female lead. This will be her second film with Asif after a gap of nine long years. They last played a pair in Sathyan Anthikad’s Katha Thudarunnu.

While Bicycle Thieves was a thriller, Sunday Holiday was a fun feel-good entertainer. So, it will be interesting to see what the director has come up with in Vijay Superum Pournamiyum. Shoot for the movie will kick-start by July once Asif and Mamta are free from their ongoing commitments. Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

Confirmed: Mohanlal and Siddique to team up for a big budget action-comedy!

Mohanlal has his kitty loaded with some huge projects. Some of Malayalam cinema’s biggest movies are being planned with him namely Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham, Lucifer, Randamoozham etc. But the actor is trying to maintain a balance by doing the regular commercial flicks as well. For a while now, there have been talks about Mohanlal teaming up with director Siddique for such a project. The veteran filmmaker has now confirmed that his next is indeed with Mohanlal.

According to Siddique, his upcoming movie with Mohanlal will be a big budget one loaded with action and humour. He is yet to start scripting but added that the movie will go on floors sometime by the end of this year itself. The two last worked together in Ladies and Gentlemen, which was released back in 2013. Though the movie was released amidst huge expectations, it failed to impress the viewers and flopped at the box office.

Mohanlal and Siddique will be trying to rectify the mistakes and hit the success mark this time. The director’s Bhaskar Oru Rascal, the Tamil remake of his own Malayalam movie Bhaskar The Rascal, was released last Friday and has met with mixed response. Siddique is planning to helm the movie’s Hindi verison as well, casting process for which are still on. Apart from that, he has also committed for a movie with Dileep.

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan is a much revered filmmaker in Malayalam industry. There is a very conspicuous pattern in the kind of movies that he has been doing. He steers clear of the usual commercial flicks and instead does meaningful movies that reflect the socio-political issues in the society we live in. All his three feature films – Oraalppokkam, Ozhivudivasathe Kali and S Durga have won widespread critical acclaim while also sweeping awards at the regional and international level.

Sanal has mostly worked with lesser known actors. But if latest reports are to be believed, his upcoming movie Chola will have Joju George and ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ fame Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles. An official announcement is yet to be made but if it turns out to be true, it will be interesting to see how the director utilizes these two talented actors.

Sanal meanwhile is working on the theatrical release of Unmadiyude Maranam, a movie which tells the story of a filmmaker. The movie discusses about the restrictions on creative freedom and other similar issues an artist is facing in today’s scenario.

Dulquer Salmaan started shooting for Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal (KKKA) last November. Shoot got delayed due to the TNFPC strike which brought the industry to a stand still for almost two months. The latest we hear is that KKKA is currently in the final stages of shoot. Dulquer and team is currently in Delhi for the shoot after which the actor will be flying to the US for attending an award show.

Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal is a romantic travelogue that has Telugu actress Ritu Varma paired opposite Dulquer Salmaan. Ritu is well known for her performance in the superhit Telugu movie ‘Pelli Choopulu’. Dulquer plays the role of Sidharth aka Sid, a happy go lucky IT professional in this movie. The actor known for his penchant for trying different styles, will be seen sporting multiple looks in this movie.

Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal is his fourth Tamil movie after Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Solo (both bilinguals) and OK Kanmani. Unlike his other Tamil films, KKKA will have some stylish heroic elements as his character will be a larger than life one. K M Bhaskar is cranking the camera for this movie. An official announcement regarding the release date is expected to be made only after the completion of shoot.

YSR Biopic: Mammootty’s Yatra all set to go on floors!

It is already known that Malayalam superstar Mammootty is playing the lead in late Andhra Pradesh CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s biopic. The movie titled ‘Yatra’ is directed by Mahi Raghav, who has made movies like Paathshala and Anando Brahma. As per latest reports, shoot for the movie is all set to kick-start on June 20. Mammootty has allotted around 40 days for the first schedule of the movie.

YS Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR, is one of the most popular politicians that the state of Andhra Pradesh has ever seen. YSR died in an air crash in 2009 when the helicopter carrying him crashed in a dense forest. He was so hugely popular that hundreds of his followers committed suicide upon hearing his unfortunate demise.

According to director Mahi Raghav, Yatra is an event-based film which primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra in 2003. The padayatra was a defining moment in his career which transformed him into a people’s leader. While Mammootty has been confirmed for YSR’s role, an official announcement about the actors who will be playing the other supporting roles is still awaited.

Yatra is being produced jointly by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi under the banner of 70MM Entertainments. The makers are planning to complete shooting and post-production formalities in six months and release the film by next January.

Aashiq Abu’s Mayaanadhi was unarguably one of the best Malayalam movies of 2017. The movie starring Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles is a romantic thriller that stayed clear of the stereotypes. Writers Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair scripted an intense romantic story and weaved it around a crime element. Hitting screens as a Christmas release, the movie was right away lapped up by the critics. After a slow start at the box office, it soon picked courtesy the word of mouth and emerged as a winner with a theatrical run of over 100 days.

Last day, the 125 days success celebration of Mayaanadhi was held in Kochi. Tovino Thomas, Ashiq Abu and the whole team were present. An exciting announcement was made during the function last day. The movie is getting a Hindi version. Santhosh T Kuruvilla, Aashiq Abu and Sachin Pilgaonkar will be jointly producing this movie and Jo Rajan will be directing it.

More details regarding the cast and other crew members have not yet been announced. Mayaanadhi was a movie that won widespread critical acclaim for its fresh treatment, bold writing and the excellent performances of the lead actors. It will be interesting to see how the makers adapt to suit the sensibilities of the Hindi audience.

Gautham Menon’s upcoming movie Dhruva Natchathiram starring Chiyaan Vikram is eagerly awaited by cinephiles. A teaser of the movie was leaked on internet last day which has forced the makers to release it officially. This 1 minute 15 second long teaser is packed with some extremely stylish shots and the movie promises to be an international level spy thriller.

According to Gautham Menon, Dhruva Natchathiram revolves around ten agents who work in disguise to protect and safegaurd the nation. They are responsible for national security and to protect it from foreign forces. He is planning to make it as a trilogy and release the film as a three-part franchise.

Ritu Varma, Aishwarya Rajesh, Simran, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Divyadarshini, Vamsi Krishna, Vinayakan, Munna and many others are part of the movie’s elaborate star cast. The movie was shot extensively in western countries like Slovenia, Bulgaria, Austria, Turkey and Jordan.

International stunt coordinators have choreographed some high octane action sequences in the movie. Harris Jayaraj is handling the music department and cinematography is done by Jomon T John, Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran and Manoj Paramahamsa. The movie is being jointly funded by Ondraga Entertainment, Escape Artists Motion Pictures and Kondaduvom Entertainment.

While Mohanlal fans were all excited about the release of Neerali, here comes a disappointing news for them. As per latest reports, the movie’s release has been postponed to a further date in wake of the Nipah outbreak in the Malabar regions. The much-awaited FIFA world cup, which is scheduled from 14 June to 15 July, is also said to be another reason for pushing the release date.

Neerali directed by Ajoy Varma is touted to be an action-packed adventure thriller. The movie scripted by Saju Thomas has Mohanlal playing the role of Sunny George, a gemologist by profession. Nadhiya Moidu, who is making her comeback to Malayalam, is playing his wife in the movie.

Suraj Venjaramoodu, Parvathi Nair, Dileesh Pothan, Sai Kumar, Bineesh Kodiyeri, Megha Mathew, and Nasser are part of the supporting cast. Neerali’s technical crew includes noted Bollywood cinematographer Santhosh Thundiyil and composer Stephen Devassy. Director Ajoy Varma is handling the edits with Sajit Unnikrishnan. Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment is co-producing the movie jointly with John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikdan. The makers are yet to officially announce the new release date.

It remains to be seen if other movies slated to hit screens for Eid also follow suit and postpone their release dates. Mammootty’s Abrahaminte Santhathikal and Prithviraj’s long-delayed My Story are the other two biggies lined up for Eid.

As informed earlier by the makers, the first song from Neerali has been released today in social media. Mohanlal and Shreya Ghoshal have sung this romantic track set to tunes by Stephen Devassy. Interestingly, Mohanlal is lending his voice for a movie song after a gap of six long years. The last song he rendered was ‘Attumanal Payayil’ in Joshiy’s Run Baby Run, which was released back in 2012.
