Simran to star opposite Rajinikanth in Karthik Subbaraj’s next?

As we already know, the promising young filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s next is with superstar Rajinikanth. Sun Pictures is producing this movie which also has Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. Latest buzz is that veteran actress Simran has been paired opposite Rajinikanth in this movie. Simran’s casting is yet to be officially confirmed but it will be huge if it turns out to be true.

Simran, unarguably one of the leading heroines of her time, has been taking up only performance-oriented roles of late. She has acted with almost all the leading stars of Tamil cinema including Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith and Suriya. If Karthik Subbaraj manages to get Simran on board, this will be her first film with Thalaivar and their chemistry will be one to watch out for.

Pre-production works for this yet-to-be titled movie are currently progressing. The makers have planned to go on floors by June. The director and his team is currently busy with the process of finalizing the supporting cast and crew. Bobby Simha and ‘Mercury’ fame Sananth Reddy have reportedly been signed for the movie. They are said to be Rajinikanth’s two sons in the film. In the technical crew, Anirudh Ravichander will be handling the music director and Tirru will be cranking the camera.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s Kaala is gearing up to hit screens on June 7. The movie directed by Pa Ranjith has the superstar playing a Mumbai based don. Kaala is touted to be a gangster flick that talks about lives of the Tamil community in the slums of Dharavi. Nana Patekar, Huma Quereshi, Pankaj Tripathi and Samuthirakani are also part of the movie.

Mammootty joins the second schedule of Mamankam!

As we had reported earlier, the second schedule of Mammootty’s upcoming biggie Mamankam is currently progressing in Kochi. Though it has been a week since shoot commenced, Mammootty joined the team only last day. Huge sets of palaces have been erected in the city where major portions are currently being shot.

Sajeev Pillai has scripted Mamankam after doing research works for nearly twelve years. The movie is based on the medieval fair, Mamankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays a ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.

Mamankam has a huge star cast with several non-Malayali actors in it. Bollywood actress Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and former Miss Tamil Nadu Abhirami V Iyer have reportedly been signed as the female leads. Neeraj Madhav, ‘Queen’ fame Dhruv, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal are already confirmed in the supporting cast. Arvind Swamy is also rumoured to be part of the movie but we are still waiting for an official confirmation.

Mamankam’s technical crew includes renowned cinematographer Ganesh Rajavelu a.k.a Jim Ganesh, action choreographer Kaecha Khamphakdee, music director M Jayachandran and VFX supervisor Kamala Kannan, who has worked in several big projects in South Indian cinema. Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is producing this ambitious project.

Veteran Malayali actor Lal joins Prabhas’ Saaho!

Prabhas, who shot to nationwide fame with the success of Baahubali, is currently shooting for his upcoming movie Saaho. The movie directed by Sujeeth is touted to be an action thriller made on a lavish budget. To cash in on Prabhas’ huge popularity, the makers have planned it as a trilingual in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages.

n an attempt to give the movie a pan Indian appeal, the makers of Saaho have been signed several plethora of actors from industries across the country. Bollywood diva Shraddha Kapoor is making her South Indian debut with this movie. Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arun Vijay, Lal and Tinnu Anand are also part of the cast.

Latest to join the team is veteran Malayali actor Lal. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Lal has been brought on board to play a very integral part in the movie. He has previously acted in a couple of Telugu films, namely Annavaram (2006) and Khatarnak (2008).

Shoot for Saaho is currently progressing in Abu Dhabi. In this 50 day long schedule in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the team will be filming some high octane chase sequences in the downtown and Burj Khalifa. Reportedly, the makers are investing around Rs Rs 300 crore on the film, of which Rs 90 crore will be spent on the action sequences alone. Kenny Bates, who has worked on Hollywood films like Pearl Harbour, Transformers, and Die Hard, is choreographing the stunts in Saaho.

Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are jointly funding this movie under the banner of UV Creations. The movie is slated to hit screens by mid 2019.

Mammootty’s upcoming period flick Mamankam is among the most awaited Malayalam movies in recent years. The movie directed by debutant Sajeev Pillai is an epic historic-drama made on a huge scale. Second schedule of shoot is currently progressing in Kochi where huge sets have been erected. While the shoot is still underway, composer M Jayachandran has already recorded four songs for the movie.

Legendary singers like KJ Yesudas, Bombay Jayasree, Vidyadharan Master, Shreya Ghoshal and Sangeetha have lent their voices for M Jayachandran’s compositions. The movie promises to be a feast for music lovers. Bombay Jayashree, who recently rendered a lulabby, said that it was an intense and deepening experience to record that particular track. It is only ideal that the makers have hired the services of such gifted singers for an epic film like Mamankam.

Buzz: Suniel Shetty, Nagarjuna and Paresh Rawal in Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham!

Last month, director Priyadarshan officially announced his much talked about movie based on Kunjali Marakkar’s life with superstar Mohanlal. The movie titled as Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is being planned on a huge canvas with a whopping budget of around Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Dr Roy CJ’s Confident Group and Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment are jointly funding this ambitious project.

Ever since the announcement was made, several rumours about the cast have been doing the rounds in social medias. Latest talk is that the makers are planning to rope in Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, and Bollywood actors Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal to play crucial roles in the movie. Priyadarshan has worked with all these three actors and shares great rapport with them, so the possibility of them being signed for Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham are quite high. But we still have to wait for an official confirmation.

On the technical front, Priyadarshan wanted to retain the same set of technicians he worked with in the 1996 epic historical period drama Kalapani. He had approached Santhosh Sivan for wielding the camera, but since the latter was busy with other works they have got the national award winning DOP Tirru on board.

Priyadarshan is scripting the movie jointly with Ani Sasi, the younger son of legendary filmmaker IV Sasi. A couple of other writers will also be part of the scripting team. Sabu Cyril is the production designer. Some other leading technicians from India and abroad are expected to be associated with this project. The makers have planned to start shooting on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1). Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

Kunjali Marakkar is perhaps the most talked about project in the recent history of Malayalam cinema. Two separate films have been announced on the same subject with the two icons of Malayalam cinema – Mohanlal and Mammootty. Mohanlal’s version of Kunjali Marakkar will be directed by Priyadarshan while Mammootty’s film is to be helmed by cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Santhosh Sivan. While Mohanlal’s film titled ‘Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham’ is slated to go on floors from November, not much updates have been made from the other camp.

Mammootty’s movie titled as ‘Kunjali Marakkar IV’ is scripted jointly by TP Rajeev and Shankar Ramakrishnan. August Cinema is producing the movie, pre-production works for which are already underway. Currently, there is a buzz going around in social medias suggesting that the makers are planning to release an animated teaser next month, on the occasion of Eid. Mammootty fans have been eagerly waiting for an update about the movie and this latest buzz about the teaser has naturally got them all excited.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four major Kunjali Marakkars during that era. Both Mohanlal’s and Mammootty’s movies are based on the fourth Kunjali Marakkar, whose life story apparently had the most interesting elements.

Tovino Thomas has some exciting releases coming up this year. Debutant Vishnu Narayan’s Maradona is one among them. The movie was supposed to hit screens this month but due to some unknown reasons it got postponed. Last day, the makers announced that Maradona will reach screens on June 22.

Maradona’s director Vishnu Narayan is a former associate of directors like Dileesh Pothan, Aashiq Abu and Sameer Thahir. Krishnamoorthy, who has previously assisted Lijo Jose Pellissery and Dileesh Pothan, has scripted this movie. ‘Angamaly Diaries’ actors Kichu Tellus, Tito Wilson and Chemban Vinod Jose will be seen in major roles in Maradona.

Newbie Sharanya R Nair is playing the female lead opposite Tovino. Leona Lishoy, Niranjan, Jins Bhaskar and Nishthar Ahamed are also part of the supporting cast. Debutant Deepak D Menon is the cinematographer and Sushin Shyam is handling the music department. Saiju Sreedharan, who did the cuts for Mayaanadhi is editing this upcoming movie as well. Maradona is being produced by S Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studio.

Tovino Thomas also has Abiyude Katha Anuvinteyum and Theevandi gearing up for release. Abiyude Katha Anuvinteyum is a romantic entertainer made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. The movie is all set for release on May 25 (Friday).

Confirmed: A big news on Randamoozham is on its way!

As we all know, Malayalam cinema is coming up with a highly ambitious project, the scale of which is a never-before-seen kind in Indian cinema history. We are talking about the movie adaptation of MT Vasudevan Nair’s award winning novel Randamoozham. VA Shrikumar Menon will be directing this movie and UAE based businessman Dr BR Shetty is investing a whopping Rs 1000 crores for this project.

Randamoozham aka The Mahabharatha was officially announced in April last year. Ever since then, cinephiles have been eagerly waiting to hear more updates on the movie. For a while now, there has been a buzz going around in social medias that an announcement on Randamoozham is around the corner. Confirming the same, director Shrikumar Menon shared a photo with MT Vasudevan Nair in his official Facebook handle last day. Along with that he penned a note which reads,

A meaningful day spent in the company of the legendary writer Shri M T Vasudevan Nair. A day which has rekindled my belief in the saying that if you can dream it , you can certainly do it ! At a time when the dream we have seen together is getting one step closer to becoming a reality , it was overwhelming to be around his graceful presence and to indulge in deep conversations about our magnum opus. The meeting was indeed meaningful and it felt complete when Lalettan joined us on call from London.

For those millions of ardent supporters of this project, our well wishers and friends in media waiting for this project to kick start and for all the queries about new developments on Mahabharata – Randaamoozham, the Movie , we would like to say that the big news is on its way ! Randamoozham, the novel is actually based on the Indian epic Mahabharatha, told from the perspective of Bheemasenan. Mohanlal is playing the central character of Bheeman in the movie. According to the makers, leading actors from Indian cinema and Hollywood will be part of the movie. It is being planned as a multilingual in English, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. The movie will also have dubbed versions in all major Indian and foreign languages.

The makers have planned the movie in two parts with the second installment hitting screens within three months time from the first part’s release. They are eyeing to release the first part by 2020. Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

As informed earlier by the makers, the movie has a big star cast with several non-Malayali actors as part of the cast. Bollywood actress Prachi Desai, noted for her roles in movies like Rock On, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai and Azhar, has reportedly been signed as one of the female leads in Mamankam. Latest to join the camp is Prachi Tehlan, a popular TV show actress.

Prachi Tehlan made her acting debut with the TV show Diya Aur Baati Hum. She has also acted in a couple of Punjabi movies. She is also the lead actress in Ikyawann, a television show which airs on Star Plus. Interestingly, Prachi Tehlan is the former captain of the Indian national Netball Team which represented the country in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Prachi Tehlan has already started shooting for Mamankam and is having a wonderful experience working in such a big project, which incidentally also marks her debut in South. Sonam Kapoor excited about working with Dulquer Salmaan in Zoya Factor

As we already know, Dulquer Salmaan is a busy actor these days with a handful of projects coming up in Tamil and Hindi. Even before the release of his debut Hindi movie, Karwaan, Dulquer signed his next, Zoya Factor in which he is paired opposite Sonam Kapoor. Zoya Factor is the big screen adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 best seller novel of the same name.

Sonam Kapoor in a recent interview sounded all excited about working with Dulquer Salmaan. Apparently, the actress has watched a few of Dulquer’s movies and rates him quite high as an actor.

She is quoted saying, “Dulquer is really cute and such a good actor. I have seen his film Okay Kanmani and he was fabulous in that. I really liked him in that movie and I have a history of working with South Indian actors. Dhanush was launched with Raanjhanaa, so I think I work well with them. I haven’t started prepping with Dulquer. It’s starting in August so I am looking forward to working with him. We will start in August or September.”

Zoya Factor, the novel is centred around Zoya Singh Solanki, a PR executive. Zoya was born on the exact moment when Indian cricket team had lifted the 1983 World Cup. Zoya is considered as a lucky charm by the Indian team and media. While everyone consider her lucky, team’s captain Nikhil Khoda and Zoya are always at loggerheads. The former doesn’t believe in luck and relies on performance. Zoya keeps clashing with the Indian skipper, and what follows is a love-hate relationship.

Sonam Kapoor will be playing the role of Zoya while Dulquer Salmaan essyas captain Nikhil Khoda’s role in the movie. Reportedly, Dulquer is planning to take up basic circket coaching prior to the commencement of shoot. Abhishek Sharma, who has helmed movies like The Shaukeens and Tere Bin Laden, will be directing this movie.

Fox Star Studios and Adlabs Films are jointly funding the movie which is scheduled as an April release, next year.
