Here’s the release date of Mammootty’s Uncle!

Mammootty’s Uncle is an eagerly awaited movie, waiting for release this summer. Actor Joy Mathew has scripted this movie, which marks the directorial debut of Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and Padmakumar. In a casual interaction with his followers in Facebook last day, Joy Mathew revealed that Uncle will hit screens on April 27.

Uncle is Joy Mathew’s second outing as a scriptwriter after the critically acclaimed ‘Shutter’. Just like his previous movie, Uncle is also said to be a socially relevant film. It is the story of a 17-year-old girl and her dad’s friend. CIA fame Karthika Muraleedharan and Mammootty play these two lead roles in the movie.

Reportedly, the plot is set in the journey of Mammootty’s character Krishnakumar aka KK from Ooty to Kozhikode. He is accompanied by his friend’s daughter in this trip. It is about an unusual situation a middle class family is made to face. The social and political setting of Kerala is of much prominence in the movie.

According to the makers, Mammootty will be seen in a different role altogether in the movie. He is sporting a salt and pepper bearded look for his character, which is said to be a performance oriented one. Expectations are high for this movie among the audience as Mammootty is playing such a character after a long while. Recently, the satellite and remake rights for the Tamil and Telugu versions of the movie were sold for a huge price.

Uncle also stars Joy Mathew, Asha Sharath, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Kailash, KPAC Lalitha, Sheela and Muthumani in supporting roles. Its technical crew includes veteran cinematographer Azhagappan, composer Bijibal and editor Shameer Muhammed. Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding the movie under their banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films.

‘Ultimate fan boy moment’ for Vineeth Sreenivasan!!

Vineeth Sreenivasan has often in his interviews said that he is a huge fan of Tamil superstar Thala Ajith. Last day, Vineeth and family had the fortune of meeting Ajith during an event. He shared the photo taken with Ajith in his official Instagram handle and captioned it as,

“Ultimate fan boy moment!! Those who know me will know what this picture is worth for me..”

Ajith is seen in his trademark salt and pepper look with a fully grown beard in the photo. Apparently, he is getting ready to start shooting for ‘Viswasam’, his upcoming movie with director Siva. Nayanthara is playing the female lead in this movie touted to be a commercial entertainer. Sathya Jyothi Films, who produced Ajith’s last film Vivegam, is bankrolling this upcoming venture as well.

Vineeth, on the other hand is waiting for the release of ‘Aravindante Athidhikal’, his next as a lead actor. The movie directed by M Mohanan is tipped to be a feel good entertainer. Sreenivasan, Nikhila Vimal, Shanthi Krishna, Urvashi, Aju Varghese, Salim Kumar and many others are also part of the movie. Aravindante Athidhikal is slated to hit screens on April 27.

Rajinikanth’s Kaala certified U/A with 14 cuts!!

The Tamil film industry is on an indefinite strike over rates charged by Digital Service Providers (DSPs). The industry has been severely hit by the ongoing strikes, first by the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TNFPC) against the rates charged by DSPs and then the theatre owners strike, which has resulted in an indefinite shutdown starting from March 16 over the local body tax and the government’s rules regarding license renewal and theatre maintenance.

Due to the strike, an uncertainty still prevails over the release of big movies like Rajinikanth’s Kaala. Reports suggest that Kaala might be pushed as films ready for release and delayed due to strike will be given precedence. If it turns out to be true, Kaala which is originally scheduled for an April 27 release might be pushed to a later date in May.

Meanhwile, the movie was censored recently and acquired an U/A certificate with a total of 14 cuts. The cuts are presumably because of the violence since the movie is touted to be an action packed gangster drama. Kaala marks the superstar’s reunion with director Pa Ranjith after Kabali.

The movie is basically a gangster flick based in the Mumbai underworld. Rajinikanth plays Kaala, a powerful don who heads the Tamil community in the slums of Dharavi. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is playing the female lead, but she is not paired opposite Rajinikanth. Multiple national award winner Nana Patekar plays the antagonist. Rajinikanth’s son-in-law, actor Dhanush is producing Kaala under his banner Wunderbar Films Pvt Ltd.

Singam combo to reunite; Hari’s next after Saamy 2 is with Suriya!

Director Hari is currently busy with the shoot of Saamy 2, starring Vikram in the lead. The movie, which is the sequel of the actor-director duo’s 2003 superhit movie Saamy, has Vikram playing a dual role. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead and National award winner Bobby Simha plays the villain role. The movie is expected to hit screens by the end of this year.

In a recent interview, when asked about his future projects, director Hari revealed that his next after Saamy 2 will be with Suriya. They have previously worked together in five films, which includes the popular Singam franchise. However, the director confirmed that their upcoming movie will not be from the Singam series. Hari will be starting works for his next with Suriya soon after the release of Saamy 2.

Meanwhile, Suriya is busy shooting for NGK, directed by Selvaraghavan. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the female leads in this movie funded by Dream Warriror Pictures. After NGK, Suriya will be teaming up with director KV Anand for an action thriller to be funded by Lyca Productions. The star’s next with Hari will start rolling only after that.

In the interview, Hari also added that he intends to do a long-pending film with Vijay. The two have been trying to associate for quite long now but nothing got materialized.

The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir: Here’s the new trailer of Dhanush’s Hollywood movie!

It is already known that Tamil star Dhanush is making his Hollywood debut with a movie titled ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir’. The movie directed by Ken Scott is based on the novel, ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped In An IKEA Wardrobe’, written by Romain Puertolas.

Last day, a new trailer of the movie was released by the makers via YouTube. It is an interesting trailer that gives hints about Dhanush’s character. It is the story of a young Indian from a small town in Mumbai and his journey to Paris for the first time. Dhanush’s character is named as Ajatashatru Lavash Patel.

The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir is touted to be an adventure fantasy drama. It was shot across India, Libiya, Paris, Belgium and England. Initially, the movie was supposed to be directed by Marjane Satrapi but Ken Scott was later brought on board to rework the script and direct the film.

The movie also stars Gerard Jugnot, Barkhad Abdi, Erin Moriarty and Bérénice Bejo. Nicolas Errera is handling the music department. Bollywood’s much in demand music director Amit Trivedi has composed two Hindi songs for this movie. The film is being produced by Luc Bossi and Aditi Anand.

Reportedly, the movie will be screened at this year’s International Film Festival of Berlin. After its world premiere at the festival, it is slated to hit screens in India on May 30.

Actor Kollam Ajith passes away

Noted Malayali actor Kollam Ajith passed away in the wee hours on Thursday. He was suffering from stomach related ailments and was under treatment in a private hospital in Kochi. According to reports, the body will be taken to his native place and the funeral will take place today itself.

Kollam Ajith is survived by his wife Prameela and two Gayathri and Sreehari. Born as Ajith to Kottayam native Padmanabhan and Saraswathi, he later changed his name to Kollam Ajith as he was born and brought up in Kollam. He started his journey in cinema as an assistant director and later became an actor.

He was a popular face in the Malayalam movies of the 80s and 90s. He mostly acted in villain and grey shaded roles. He has acted in more than 500 films in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages and also in many television serials. He has also directed two movies.

Mammootty’s Parole is all set for release this Friday (April 6). Fans as well as the common audience have been eagerly waiting for the movie. The makers had initially planned to release the movie on March 31 but due to a slight delay in acquiring the censor certificate, they had to postpone the release. As informed earlier, second song video from the movie was released today in social medias.

Directed by Sharrath Sandith, Parole is a family entertainer in which Mammootty plays the role of ‘sakhav’ Alex. Ajith Poojappura, a jailer in real life, has scripted Parole based on some real life incidents. The narrative travels through three different phases of Alex’s life. According to the makers, Mammootty has given a very intense performance that would be remembered for a long time.

Ineya and Miya George essay the two female leads in the movie. While Ineya plays Mammootty’s wife, Miya will be seen as his sister. ‘Baahubali’ fame Prabhakar is also playing a significant part in the movie. Parole also has a huge set of supporting actors like Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Krishna Kumar, Irshad, Sijoy Varghese, Sohan Seenulal, Lalu Alex, Sudheer Karamana, Alencier Ley Lopez and Muthumani.

Sharreth and Ellwyn Joseph are handling the music department in Parole. S Lokanathan is the cinematographer and editing is done by Suresh Urs. The movie is being produced under the banner of Antony D’Cruz Entertainment.

Jeeva to star in the Tamil version of Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil

Angamaly Diaries star Antony Varghese’s new movie Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil was released last week (March 31). The movie opened to overwhelming response from the audience, which includes both critics and the commoners. Tinu Pappachan, a former associate of Lijo Jose Pellissery has directed this movie.

As per our sources from within the industry, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil is most likely to get a Tamil version. The makers are planning to cast actor Jeeva in the remake. A special screening has also been arranged for him, after which an official announcement is expected to be made. If reports are to be believed, Tinu Pappachan will be directing the Tamil version as well.

Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil scripted by newcomer Dileep Kurian is a prison-break thriller, perhaps the first of its kind in Malayalam cinema. Tinu Pappachan’s uniquely stylish making backed with good performances from the lead actors make the movie a clear winner. It is an edge-of-the-seat thriller with loads of action and mass moments. Since prison-break is an universal theme, it can be placed anywhere but it will be interesting to see how the makers tweak the script in order to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience.

Vinayakan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Rajesh Sharma, Tito Wilson, a few actors from Angamaly Diaries and a bunch of newcomers are also part of the Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. It is produced by BC Joshi and is presented by director B Unnikrishnan. Lijo Jose Pellissery and Chemban Vinod Jose are also part of the team as co-producers.

M Mohanan, who has given hit films like like Katha Parayumbol and Manikyakallu is back after a gap with ‘Aravindante Athidhikal’. The movie starring Vineeth Sreenivasan and Nikhila Vimal in the lead is tipped to be a feel good entertainer for the families, just like the director’s previous movies. The makers have officially informed that the movie will be hitting screens on April 27.

Aravindante Athidhikal is scripted by newcomer Rajesh Raghavan. The movie is set in the premises of the famous Mookambika Temple in Kollur. Vineeth Sreenivasan plays Aravindan, an orphan raised by Madhavan (Sreenivasan), who owns a lodge – Mookambika Vilasam. The movie explores the protagonist Aravindan’s relationship with his guests and his wait for his long lost mother.

Recently, the movie’s teaser featuring Vineeth and Sreenivasan was released and was met with good response in social medias. Within three days, it has already fetched over six lakh digital views. From the teaser, the movie looks like a clean entertainer that could be enjoyed with families during this holiday season.

Aravindante Athidhikal has a solid supporting cast which includes Urvashi, Shanthi Krishna, KPAC Lalitha, Vijayaraghavan, Aju Varghese, Biju Kuttan, Salim Kumar, Prem Kumar, Kottayam Nazeer and Baiju among others. Swaroop Philip is the cinematographer and veteran Ranjan Abraham is editing the movie. Shaan Rahman, a regular in Vineeth Sreenivasan movies, is handling the music department.
