Adho Andha Paravai Pola: Here’s the first look of Amala Paul’s next

Of late, Amala Paul has been very choosy about her movies. The actress is consciously picking movies that offer her scope for performance. Her acting in Susi Ganesan’s Thiruttu Payale 2, in which she was paired opposite, Prasanna and Bobby Simha was well appreciated by the cirics. She is currently shooting for the epic Malayalam film Aadujeevitham starring Prithviraj in the lead.

Today, on the occasion of Women’s Day, the makers of Amala Paul’s upcoming film have released the first look posters of their venture. The movie titled as ‘Adho Andha Paravai Pola’ has Amala playing a rugged tomboyish role. In one of the posters she is seen riding a motorcycle with a killer attitude. The movie directed by debutant KR Vinoth, is being shot in the Western Ghats of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Reportedly, Adho Andha Paravai Pola is an action adventure thriller about a young woman who loses her way in the forests. The movie follows her journey through the wild and the various encounters she goes through in the jungle. Arun Rajagopalan aka AR has scripted the movie. Ashish Vidyarthi, Samir Kochhar and Supreme Sundar will be seen in supporting roles.

The technical team includes cinematographer Santhakumar Sakravarthi, music director Jakes Bejoy and producing the movie under the banner of Century International Films.

Mammootty’s Oru Kuttandan Blog launched!

As reported by us, the customary pooja function of Mammootty’s upcoming movie Oru Kuttanadan Blog was held today in Kochi. Noted scenarist Sethu is turning an independent director with this movie tipped to be a rural based fun entertainer. The pooja ceremony was attended by Mammootty, Sethu, Shamna Kasim, Anu Sithara, B Unnikrishnan, Joshiy, Sanju Sivaram, Joby George and many others.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog has Mammootty playing Hari, a popular blogger in his locality. Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim have been signed as the female leads. Shoot for the movie will kick-start on March 19 in Alappuzha.

Reportedley, the movie is narrated through various episodes of a blog. The basic ploc is set in a fictional village named Krishnapuram where Shamna Kasim’s character Neena lands as a police officer. Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jude Anthany Joseph, Sanju Sivaram and Adil Ibrahim form the cast.

Actor Unni Mukundan will be involved in the movie’s making as an associate director. He has adjusted dates from his busy acting schedule to assist director Sethu in Oru Kuttanadan Blog. The movie will be shot extensively in Kuttanad and nearby areas. Cinematography will be handled by Pradeep Nair and ‘Idea Star Singer’ fame Sreenath is debuting as a composer with this movie.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog is being produced by Muraleedharan and Santha Muraleedharan under the banner of Anantha Vision.

Oscar winner Resul Pookkutty joins team Odiyan!

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is unarguably one of the most awaited South Indian films coming up this year. The movie deals with a subject that has not been experimented before in Indian cinema. Odiyan is a mass entertainer with a mix of action, romance and magical realism. Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, the movie is primarily about Odividya, a kind of black magic and people who practice it are called odiyans. There are a lot of stories and myths about odiyans in Kerala’s folklore. The movie marks the debut directorial of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon.

After a two month long gap, final schedule of the movie commenced earlier this week in Palakkad. Oscar award winning sound designer Resul Pookkutty has also joined the team. Resul himself shared the news to his followers via his social media handle. Odiyan already has a strong technical team and Resul’s addition will prove to be a big booster.

The movie has Mohanlal playing the role of Odiyan Manikyan while Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj essay other major roles. The story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. The movie follows Manikyan’s life from his childhood to his 60s. Manju Warrier essays the role of Prabha and Prakash Raj’s character is named Ravunni.

In this ongoing schedule, the younger portions of these three lead characters are being shot. All three of them – Mohanlal, Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj – will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. Taking everyone by surprise, Mohanlal had recently reduced around 18 kilos to play the younger version of his character Manikyan.

Actors like Innocent, Sana Althaf, Kailas, Naren and Siddique are also part of the supporting cast. India’s leading stunt master Peter Hein is choreographing the action sequences in Odiyan. Shaji Kumar is wielding the camera and Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. M Jayachandran has tuned the songs and Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame is composing the background score.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing Odiyan under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The movie is expected to hit screens sometime by the end of this year.

State awards for the year 2017 was announced today by the Minister for cultural affairs, AK Balan in a press meet held in state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.

As many as 110 movies were nominated this year in various categories. The jury members were divided into two groups and 55 movies were watched and judged by each group. The movies were screened for the jury at the
KINFRA Film and Video Park in Trivandrum from February 21.

The jury for the story category is headed by director TV Chandran. It also has directors Dr Biju, Manoj Kana, cinematographer Santhosh Thundyil, music composer Jerry Amaldev, scriptwriter Cheriyan Kalpakavadi, sound engineer Vivek Anand, writer and critic Dr M Rajeev Kumar and actress Jalaja as the other members. Dr PK Rajasekharan heads the jury for the screenplay category which also includes writers Prof AG Oleena and Dr P Soman as its members.

Dileep’s Kammara Sambhavam nearing completion!

The biggest movie in Dileep’s career, Kammara Sambhavam is currently in the last stages of shoot. Final schedule of the movie is progressing at a rapid pace in Kochi. The movie marks the directorial debut of noted ad filmmaker Rathish Ambat. Dileep is sporting the 90-year-old look in this final leg of shoot. For the make-up alone, the actor is spending over five hours everyday prior to shoot.

Kammara Sambhavam scripted by Murali Gopy also has popular South Indian actor Siddharth in a lead role alongside Dileep. Murali Gopy is also essaying a crucial role in the movie. Kammara Sambhavam is an epic film set in three different timelines. The movie focuses on historical accounts and how it is depicted by the ones who wrote it.

Siddharth, who is making his Malayalam debut, is playing the role of Othenan Nambiar. Both Dileep and Siddharth will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. Murali Gopy’s character is named Malayil Kelu Nambiar. His character poster was released in social medias a couple of days back.

Namitha Pramod is the female lead in the movie which also stars National award winner Bobby Simha, Shwetha Menon, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Indrans, Manikuttan, Siddique, Vinay Forrt, Sudheer Karamana and Santhosh Keezhattoor among others.

Kammara Sambhavam is expected to hit screens as a Vishu release in April but an official word has not yet been given. Gokulam Gopalan is funding this big budget movie under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies. After the completion of this movie, Dileep will be heading to Dubai for the shoot of his 3D film Professor Dinkan.

Richa Chadha to play the lead in Shakeela’s biopic

It has been a while since reports about a biopic on actress Shakeela started surfacing online. It has now been confirmed that the project is indeed happening. Bollywood actress Richa Chadha has been signed to play the lead in the biopic. Indrajith Lankesh, who has made some notable films in Kannada, will be directing this movie.

Shakeela was one of the most popular female actors in the South during the 90s. She has appeared in several adult films in languages spanning Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The biopic will showcase the life of Shakeela from when she entered the film industry at the age of 16 and will trace her life journey from there.

Richa Chadha is an extremely talented actress who has proved her potential with her performance in movies like Gangs of Wassyepur, Fukrey, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Masaan and Sarbjit. She is expected to come good in Shakeela’s biopic as the role has a lot of scope for showcasing her acting prowess.

On signing the biopic, Richa’s spokesperson is quoted saying in a statement,“The film is the story of Shakeela, one of the most famous actors from Malayalam cinema from the 1990s who rose to a spectacular amount of fame. Her fans were spread across Asia and she earned fanfare as a woman which back then was unheard of. The film’s script was exciting and is a great story to tell and the story will make for a great watch for the audience. The preparations will begin soon and the film should be going on floors in end April or May.”

Earlier, Vidya Balan starred in the biopic on late actress Silk Smitha, who was considered the biggest contemporary of Shakeela. Vidya’s terrific performance in the Milan Luthria directorial earned her a well deserved National award.

Vada Chennai is a highly anticipated film that marks the reunion of Dhanush and director Veterimaran after the widely acclaimed movies, Polladhavan and Aadukalam. The movie is being made a trilogy with the first part slated for release in June. As informed earlier, the makers have officially unveiled the first look of Vada Chennai today morning through social medias.

Vada Chennai has been in the making for three years now. The entire story spans over 35 years and is set in the North Madras region. Dhanush plays Anbu, a national level carrom champion in the movie. The highly talented Aishwarya Rajesh plays his pair Padma while Samuthirakani plays Guna. Andrea Jeremiah, director Ameer, Kishore, Daniel Balaji, Karunas and Pawan form the movie’s supporting cast.

Since the story is set in different timelines, Dhanush will be seen in multiple looks from a teenager to a middle aged man. While many believe Vada Chennai to be a gangster film, director Vetrimaran says that it is a film about society that chronicles the lives of people inhabiting a village for over 35 years.

Vada Chennai has its music by Santhosh Narayanan and Velraj has handled the cinematography. The movie is a joint collaboration between Lyca Productions and Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.

Dulquer Salmaan unveils the first look of Tovino’s Theevandi

As informed earlier, the first look of Tovino Thomas’ upcoming movie Theevandi has been released today evening by Dulquer Salmaan.
The movie marks the directorial debut of Fellini TP.

Theevandi, scripted by newcomer Vini Viswa Lal is said to be a political satire. Tovino plays the role of a lazy unemployed youngster named Bineesh in this movie. Samyukhtha Menon, who essays the role of a government employee, is paired opposite Tovino. This is the pair’s first movie together and their on-screen chemistry is something exciting to look forward to.

Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saiju Kurup and last year’s National award winner Surabhi Lakshmi are also part of the movie’s supporting cast. Debutant Kailas Menon composes the music and cinematography is handled by newcomer Gautham Sankar. Appu Bhattadhari is handling the edits. August Cinema, one of the leading banners in Malayalam film industry, is funding this movie. Official announcement regarding the release date has not yet been made.

We were among the first to report about ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame Sarath Kumar bagging a role in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming movie Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (CCV). Sarath has joined the sets of CCV in Chennai today. He posted a couple of photos in his Facebook page and along with that has also written a note thanking all his fans and well-wishers for their support.

Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is a much hyped project with a plethora of stars part of it. The movie has Arvind Swamy, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Arun Vijay, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh playing the lead roles. It is said to be a socio-political drama centred around a nuclear power plant. Bigwigs like cinematographer Santhosh Sivan, composer AR Rahman and editor Sreekar Prasad form the movie’s technical team.

Sarath Kumar is indeed lucky to have bagged an opportunity to work with such big names of Indian cinema. Mani Ratnam roped in the youngster after being impressed with his performance in ‘Angamaly Diaries’. Sarath was called upon for a formal screen test and that’s how he bagged the role. More details about his role are not yet known expect for the fact that it is a very serious one with ample scope for performance. CCV is his second film in Tamil after Sandakozhi 2, in which he is playing one of the villains opposite Vishal.

Karthik Subbaraj is unarguably one of the most talented filmmakers in Tamil cinema at present. After juggling with different genres in Pizza, Jigarthanda and Iraivi, the director is now back with an unique attempt. The teaser of his upcoming silent film ‘Mercury’ starring Prabhudeva was released today.

South Indian cinema’s four leading stars Rana Daggubati, Nivin Pauly, Dhanush and Rakshit Shetty came together to release the teaser through their respective social media handles. It is a highly promising teaser with some intriguing visuals. A particular frame shows – ‘In the memory of 84 people died in this town due to mercury poisoning 1992’. We presume this to be the movie’s core plot.

Mercury is a daring attempt from Karthik Subbaraj as the movie has no dialogues. A silent film is being made in Indian cinema after a long gap and naturally cinephiles are eagerly looking forward to its release. Apart from Prabhudeva, the movie also stars Sanath, Indhuja, Deepak, Paramesh, Shashank Purushotham and Anish Padamanabhan.

Tirru, who won the National award last year for his work in 24, is the man behind the visuals of Mercury. Santhosh Narayanan, a regular in Karthik’s films, has composed the musicl and Vivek Harshan is editing the movie. The movie is slated for release on April 13.
