Mammootty’s upcoming movie with Bobby-Sanjay start rolling this year end

We had earlier reported about Bobby-Sanjay scripting a political thriller for Mammootty. The movie which is to be directed by ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame Santhosh Vishwanath has the megastar playing the role of state Chief Minister. Latest reports suggest that the movie will go on floors sometime by the end of this year itself.

Bobby-Sanjay is among the finest writers in the industry at present. They are scripting a Mammootty starrer for the first time and hence expectations are on the higher side. Reportedly, the movie is about how a Chief Minister should be in today’s Kerala. It revolves around the discussions between a common youth and the State’s CM.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan has been roped for the former’s role. It is a performance oriented role and the youngster must be feeling proud to have bagged such a significant role alongside a superstar like Mammootty. Sreenivasan and Renji Panicker will also be seen in crucial supporting roles.

From the outset, the project looks highly promising as a political film will be a refreshing change for Mammootty from the usual mass commercial entertainers that he has been doing. The last time he essayed a politician’s role was 27 years back in Balachandra Menon’s ‘Nayam Vyakthamakunnu’.

A fan made poster with the title Sakhav PV is doing the rounds in social medias. But the makers have not yet revealed the title. Listin Stephen is producing the movie under the banner of Magic Frames. Official announcement will be made very soon.

Fahadh Faasil and Suraj Venjaramoodu to team up again for B Unnikrishnan’s next!

We had earlier reported about Suraj Venjaramoodu playing the lead in director B Unnikrishnan’s next. The latest we hear is that Fahadh Faasil has also joined the team. Fahadh will be playing a crucial role in the movie along with Suraj. This is their second outing together after the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’, which was released last year.

Interestingly, Sajeev Pazhoor, who scripted Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, has penned the story of this upcoming movie as well. Director B Unnikrishnan is handling the screenplay jointly with Dileesh Nair. Veteran actor Siddique and popular Tamil director-turned-actor J Mahendran are also part of the cast of this yet-to-be-titled movie.

Rahul Raj has been signed as the music director and editing will be handled by Shameer Muhammed. Ravi Varman’s chief associate Vishnu Panicker is making his debut as a cinematographer with this movie. Arun is producing the movie under the banner of Line of Colours and B Unnikrishnan’s RD Illuminations will be presenting the movie.

Earlier, B Unnikrishnan had revealed that he is planning to make a movie with Suraj titled ‘Indiyaye Kandethal’. It was based on the controversial demonetisation move and the subsequent events that followed. It is not yet known if the director is doing the same subject with Suraj and Fahadh.

Kayamkulam Kochunni team to head to Sri Lanka for the final schedule

Kayamkulam Kochunni is easily among the most awaited Malayalam movies of the year. The movie directed by Roshan Andrews stars Nivin Pauly as Kochunni while superstar Mohanlal plays an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. Shoot for the movie is currently progressing in Goa.

As informed earlier by us, the team will soon be heading to Sri Lanka for the final schedule. Apparently, the makers have planned to shoot in the island nation thanks to its lush green areas and forests reminiscing parts of Kerala of the pre-independence era. The team will be shooting in the country for around 10 days.

The movie scripted by the National award winning duo Bobby-Sanjay, is based on the life of legendary highwayman Kochunni, who was active in 19th century in the Travancore region. Script works were completed after years of research works with the help of history students.

Kayamkulam Kochunni also stars Priya Anand, Babu Antony and Kannada actress Priyanka Thimmesh. Its technical team boasts of some big wigs like Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan, renowned sound designer PM Satheesh and Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing this big budget movie.

Shoot for Vijay’s upcoming movie with AR Murugadoss, tentatively titled Thalapathy 62, is progressing at a brisk pace in Chennai. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the movie which marks the comeback of Sun Pictures to production after a eight year long gap. Recently, the makers announced about signing Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar to play a crucial role in the movie.

Speculations are rife that Varalaxmi is playing the prime antagonist in the movie. Earlier it was reported that the movie will have three villains locking horns with Vijay. Veteran actor Radha Ravi, politician Pala Karuppiah and Varalaxmi are said to be playing these three negative roles.

AR Murugadoss’ movies have always had strong antagonists pitted opposite his heroes. Villains in his movies like Ghajini, Thupakki, Kaththi and Spyder have all been noted for their well fleshed out characters. Thalapathy 62 also promises to be no different. It will be interesting to watch a female actor doing the villain act opposite such a big star like Vijay.

Varalaxmi is an extremely talented actress, well known for her bold roles in movies like Tharai Thappattai, Vikram Vedha, Nibunan, Sathya etc. Unlike her contemporaries, Varalaxmi has done many grey shaded and negative roles in her brief career. Her role in Thalapathy 62 is also believed to be one such. She herself has confirmed that she has a brief but very powerful role in the movie. Let’s wait for an official confirmation.

After wrapping up the ongoing schedule in Chennai, the team will be heading to US for shooting some important portions. The movie scripted by AR Murugadoss has dialogues by Jeyamohan, who is also the co-writer of 2.0. Vijay is said to be playing a millionaire’s role in the movie. It is probably the first time that Vijay is playing such a rich and sophisticated character as he has mostly done roles that are easily relatable to the commoners.

The technical crew of Thalapathy 62 includes cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, editor Sreekar Prasad and composer AR Rahman. Title and first look are expected to be officially announced very soon.

First look of Suriya’s upcoming movie NGK continues to trend in social medias. Suriya’s look in the poster, which is designed like a graffiti, instantly reminds one of the legendary revolutionary leader Che Guevera. The fist pumps in the graffiti, which was a rebellious art form used to talk about the oppressed community, gives indications of a political film.

Suriya is teaming up with the much revered Selvaraghavan the first time and the hype around this movie is naturally huge. There are several theories floating around in social medias about the movie and the character Suriya essays. It is widely speculated that he is playing a comrade who fights for social justice, but nothing has been confirmed yet by the makers.

In a recent interview, producer SR Prabhu of Dream Warriror Pictures revealed that NGK is the name of Suriya’s character. It is said to be a challenging role, a kind that Suriya has not done before in his career. Shoot for the movie is only halfway and the makers are planning to complete a major chunk by May.

Selvaraghavan is well known for his films like Kaadhal Kondein, 7G Rainbow Colony, Pudhupettai, Mayakkam Enna etc. He commands a huge fan following among the Tamil cinema audience. Him teaming up with Suriya is a matter of excitement not just for the fans, but for the common audience as well.

Selvaraghavan is expected to give a new make-over for Suriya in NGK. He is known for extracting the best out of his actors and so the audience are expecting to see a never before seen dimension of Suriya. The director himself has pinned high hopes on the movie. He had recently said that he has not enjoyed scripting a film as much he did for this film.

Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the two female leads. Noted Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu has been signed as the villain. Nivin to star in legendary footballer IM Vijayan’s biopic?

While biopics are aplenty in Bollywood, Malayalam cinema has not had many. Recently, Jayasurya did the biopic of late Indian footballer VP Sathyan. The movie titled ‘Captain’ is still running successfully in theatres while also earning critical acclaim for the actor’s performance. It now looks like Nivin Pauly is following Jayasurya’s footsteps as latest reports suggests that the Premam actor is in talks for the biopic on IM Vijayan, one of India’s most iconic footballers.

Nivin Pauly recently posted a few photos of him playing football in his Facebook page. It seems like these photos have added fuel to the speculations. As per reports, Arun Gopy of ‘Ramaleela’ will be directing this movie.

IM Vijayan is one of the most famous Indian players to have walked on a football field. Popularly known as the ‘kalo hiran’ or ‘black pearl of India’, Vijayan was crowned Indian Player of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 1999. His journey from rags to riches is a truly inspiring story. Starting from a humble background as a soda seller in football grounds, Vijayan eventually became the highest earning Indian footballer of his time.

Nivin Pauly has often said that he is a great fan of IM Vijayan. Last year, during the final match of the Indian Super League (ISL) between Kerala Blasters and Atletico De Kolkata, Nivin Pauly did a kind gesture that was widely talked about. The match organizers provided IM Vijayan a general class for the match but Nivin, who was the brand ambassador of the team, stepped in and offered the legend a VIP ticket. Nivin’s humane gesture earned him appreciation from many.

News regarding Nivin starring in IM Vijayan’s biopic has not yet confirmed. But it will be great if such a project materializes as Vijayan’s story deserves to be told on screen.

Mammootty’s Oru Kuttanadan Blog to start rolling on March 19!

It is already known that Mammootty is playing the lead in scriptwriter Sethu’s directorial debut Oru Kuttanadan Blog. The movie tipped to a village based fun entertainer has Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim as the female leads. As per latest reports, the movie will be launched with a customary pooja ceremony on March 8 and will go on floors from March 19.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog has Mammootty playing the role of Hari, who is a well known blogger in his locality. The plot is set in a fictional village named Krishnapuram where Shamna Kasim’s character Neena lands as a police officer. The movie is narrated through various episodes of a blog and Shamna’s portion is one such episode which has elements of humour.

The movie’s supporting cast includes Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jude Anthany Joseph, Sanju Sivaram and Adil Ibrahim form the cast. Actor Unni Mukundan will be involved in the movie’s making as an associate director. He has adjusted dates from his busy acting schedule to assist director Sethu.

The movie will be shot extensively in Kuttanad and nearby areas. Cinematography will be handled by Pradeep Nair and ‘Idea Star Singer’ fame Sreenath is debuting as a composer with this movie. It is being produced by Muraleedharan and Santha Muraleedharan under the banner of Anantha Vision.

Nine: Prithviraj as a scientist in ‘100 Days of Love’ director Jenuse Mohammed’s next!

Veteran filmmaker Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohammed made an impressive debut in 2015 by directing the rom-com ‘100 Days of Love’ with Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen in the lead. Following the success of the movie, it was reported that Jenuse’s next will be a sci-fi film with Prithviraj. But there was no follow-up to the news and it was speculated the project got shelved.

However, latest reports suggest that the movie is set to go on floors in April. Reportedly, the movie has been titled as ‘Nine’. Prithviraj will be seen as a scientist in this movie, the story of which happens over nine days. Nithya Menen and Parvathy are being considered for the two female leads.

Apart from playing the lead, Prithviraj is also producing this movie. This will be his first independent first production venture after leaving August Cinemas in July last year. Nine will be shot primarily in Himachal Pradesh and some portions will also be filmed in Kerala.

The movie’s official announcement along with the launch of Prithviraj’s new banner will be made very soon.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal is one of Mammootty’s most awaited movies coming up this year. The movie is scripted by Haneef Adeni, who directed Mammootty’s blockbuster movie ‘The Great Father’. Shaji Padoor, a veteran associate director who has been in the industry for over two decades is making his directorial debut with Abrahaminte Santhathikal.

Mammootty is playing the role of a police assistant superintendent in the movie. His character is named as Derick Abraham. The movie promises to be a stylish one, on the lines of The Great Father. Anson Paul will be seen as Mammootty’s brother in the movie. Anson is noted for his roles in movies like Solo, Aadu 2 and Oozham. Newbie Maria John is paired opposite him in Abrahaminte Santhathikal.

Kaniha, Siddique and Kalabhavan Shajon are also part of the movie’s supporting cast. Shoot is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Kochi. Its technical crew comprises of cinematographer, composer Gopi Sunder and editor Mahesh Narayanan, who turned a director last year with the widely acclaimed ‘Take Off’.

Joby George is funding Abrahaminte Santhathikal under the banner of Goodwill Entertainment. Recently, the satellite rights of the movie was bagged by Surya TV for a huge amount. The exact amount has not been disclosed but it is said to be one of the highest for Mammootty’s movies.

It’s a fact that we had approached Mammootty for Kaala: Pa Ranjith

Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated movie Kaala is gearing up for a grand release next month. Earlier this week, the movie’s teaser was released which took the social medias by storm. Pa Ranjith is directing Rajinikanth in Kaala for the second successive time after Kabali. Just like his previous film, Kaala is also a mass entertainer with a strong political subtext.

Kaala tells the story of a guy from Tirunelveli, who runs away in his childhood to Mumbai to become a powerful don living in the slums. Rajinikanth plays this character, Kaala, who heads the Tamil community in the slums of Dharavi. How we stands for his people is the movie’s basic premise.

Ever since Kaala was announced, there were reports about Malayalam superstar Mammootty acting in the movie. In a recent interview director Pa Ranjith revealed that they had indeed approached Mammootty to play an important role in the movie.

He said, “It is a fact that we had approached Mammootty for a crucial role during the initial days of Kaala. However, the interaction could not go beyond that and nothing materialised. I would cherish working with a star like Mammootty, but that’s not in Kaala.”

Kaala has an ensemble supporting cast which includes several noted actors from North India. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is playing the female lead, but she is not paired opposite Rajinikanth. Multiple national award winner Nana Patekar is playing the antagonist’s role. Samuthirakani, Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi, Eeshwari Rao, Anjali Patil, Sayaji Shinde, Sakshi Agarwal, Samuthirakani, Sukanya, Ramesh Thilak and Sampath Raj are also part of the supporting cast.

Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush is producing Kaala under his banner Wunderbar Films Pvt Ltd. Sreekar Prasad is editing the movie and Pa Ranjith’s regular composer Santhosh Narayanan is handling the music department. The movie is slated for a grand summer release on April 27.
