Official: Jyothika to star in the Tamil remake of Vidya Balan’s Tumhari Sulu

For the last few days, reports about Jyothika doing the Tamil remake of Vidya Balan’s superhit movie Tumhari Sulu have been doing the rounds in social medias. Jyothika’s husband, actor Suriya finally made the official announcement yesterday through his Twitter handle. Radha Mohan will be directing the movie and Dhanjayan Govindan is producing it under his banner of BOFTA Media Works.

This is Jyothika’s second film with Radha Mohan after the widely acclaimed Mozhi. Jyothika’s performance in the movie is regarded as her career best. She won widespread appreciation and numerous accolades for playing a differently abled person in Mozhi. The actress is expected to deliver another excellent performance when she teams up with Radha Mohan once again for the remake of Tumhari Sulu.

However, Jyothika has a huge challenge ahead of her as comparisons are bound to happen with the original. Tumhari Sulu directed by Suresh Triveni had Vidya Balan, Neha Dhupia and Manav Kaul in major roles. Then movie is about an ambitious housewife who becomes a radio jockey for a late-night relationship advice show. The movie worked well at the box office courtesy Vidya Balan’s tremendous performance.

Radha Mohan is currently in the process of reworking the script to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. The makers have roped in cinematographer Mahesh Muthuswami and editor Praveen KL for the project. More details about the title and other cast and crew are yet to be revealed.

Antony Varghese, who made an impressive debut last year with the blockbuster Angamaly Diaries (AD), is back with his new movie Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. The movie directed by debutant Tinu Pappachan and scripted by Dileep Kurian is tipped to be an action thriller. Last day, the makers had released a new poster of the movie featuring Antony and Vinayakan.

Vinayakan is said to be playing a very crucial role in the movie. After winning accolades for his performance in Kammattipadam, Vinayakan has not yet got a similar meaty role but Swathanthryam Ardharathriyilil promises to be one such movie. Along with him Chemban Vinod Jose is also playing a major role in this upcoming movie.

Director Lijo Jose Pellissery is also doing an important cameo role. The movie has Antony playing Jacob, a Kottayam based youngster who works in a finance company. As the title Swathanthryam Ardharathriyilil suggests, the core plot of this movie evolves over certain incidents that occur in a single night which turns the protagonist’s life upside down.

Shoot has already been wrapped up and the team is currently busy with the post production works. The movie is being produced by BC Joshi and it will be presented by director B Unnikrishnan.

Megastar Mammootty has a slew of exciting projects coming up in the next couple of years and it looks like he has committed for yet another biggie. As per latest reports, Mammootty has been signed to play the lead in the biopic on late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Telugu filmmaker Mahi Raghav, who has made movies like Paathshala and Anando Brahma, has been working on the script for the biopic for sometime now. Reportedly, the director was in Kochi today to meet Mammootty and discuss about the project. Reports suggest that the movie has been titled as Yathra.

It will be really interesting to see how Mammootty plays the role of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who was popularly known as YSR. He died in an air crash in 2009 after the helicopter carrying him crashed in a dense forest. The biopic will showcase some of the important aspects of his life and his political journey.

Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi Reddy will be jointly producing this movie. It is being planned as a multingual in all major Indian languages. The team is expected to make an official announcement about the entire cast and when the project would start rolling.

Official first look of this upcoming movie, tentatively titled Suriya 36, will be released on March 5. The makers informed this last day via Twitter with an intriguing poster. The movie is highly anticipated by the audience as Suriya and Selvaraghavan are teaming up for the first time.

Selvaraghavan is a director who is well known for his films like Kaadhal Kondein, 7G Rainbow Colony, Pudhupettai, Mayakkam Enna etc. He has a huge fan following among the Tamil cinema audience. Him teaming up with Suriya is a matter of excitement not just for the fans, but for the commoners as well.

Selvaraghavan is expected to give a new makeover for Suriya. Recently, the director had said that he never enjoyed scripting a film as much he did for this film. He is known for extracting the best out of his actors and so we can expect to see a never before seen dimension of Suriya in this upcoming movie.

SR Prabhu and SR Prakashbabu of Dream Warriors Pictures is funding this movie. It is slated for a grand Diwali release this year.

Watch out for Kaala teaser releasing tomorrow!!

Rajinikanth fans are highly excited about the teaser release of his upcoming movie Kaala. As informed by us earlier this week, the much awaited teaser will be releasing tomorrow (March 1) in YouTube. Social media forums are already abuzz with fan posts about the teaser release. It is expected to break all the existing records, as the case has always been for Rajinikanth’s movies. The movie has been slated for a grand summer release on April 27 and promotions will officially kick-start tomorrow with the teaser release.

Kaala directed by Pa Ranjith is a gangster flick based in the Mumbai underworld. It is about a guy from Tirunelveli, who runs away in his childhood to Mumbai to become a powerful don living in the slums. Rajinikanth plays this character, Kaala, who heads the Tamil community in the slums of Dharavi.

Kaala has a strong supporting cast which includes several noted actors from North India. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is playing the female lead, but she is not paired opposite Rajinikanth. Multiple national award winner Nana Patekar is essaying a pivotal role in the movie. Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Sayaji Shinde, Sakshi Agarwal, Samuthirakani, Sukanya, Ramesh Thilak and Sampath Raj are also part of the supporting cast.

Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush is producing Kaala under his banner Wunderbar Films Pvt Ltd. Sreekar Prasad is editing the movie and Pa Ranjith’s regular composer Santhosh Narayanan is handling the music department.

Aashiq Abu’s romantic flick Mayaanadhi has successfully defied all the odds and is celebrating its 75th day in theatres. On this happy occasion the team of Mayaanadhi has one more reason to celebrate as none other than superstar Mohanlal has written high about the movie on his social media handle.

In his Facebook post, he praised the movie calling it as a wonderfully woven love story with realistic characters and situations. Mohanlal also appreciated the entire cast and crew for the movie’s success. It is simply magnanimous of a superstar like him to praise good works by youngsters.

Mohanlal’s Facebook post reads,

I happened to see the movie #Mayanadhi a few days ago. Mayanadhi, in my opinion, is a wonderfully woven love story with realistic characters and situations. I loved the aesthetic treatment given to the movie as well. On this occasion of the 75th-day celebration of Mayanadhi, I would like to convey my appreciation to the entire cast and crew for their great effort in making a good film.

Mayaanadhi stars Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles. The movie scripted jointly by Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair has two dimensions – an intense love story and crime drama. Upon its release on December 22, the movie won unanimously positive reviews from the critics. Though the movie faced initial backlash by the commoners due to some external reasons, the positive word of mouth in social medias helped a great deal in pulling more audience to theatres. The movie is now is all set for its UAE release on March 1.

Mamankam first schedule wrapped up!

Mammootty’s period flick Mamankam is one of the most hyped Malayalam movies in recent years. The movie which marks the directorial debut of Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of Adoor Gopalakrishnan, went on floors earlier this month in Mangalore. As informed by us earlier, the first schedule was a brief one and it was wrapped up couple of days back. Full fledged shoot will begin only by May once Mammootty is free from his other commitments.

Mamankam is a very ambitious project with a renowned set of technicians and a star studded cast. Director Sajeev Pillai has scripted the movie after doing extensive research works for nearly 12 years. The movie is based on the medieval fair, Mamankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays a ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.

Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is funding this big budget project. The makers had informed that some big stars from other industries will be part of the movie. The female lead’s part will be played by a Bollywood actress while a young star from Tamil industry will be seen as the second hero. However, the makers have not yet revealed their names officially. Neeraj Madhav, ‘Queen’ fame Dhruv, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal are already part of the supporting cast.

Action sequences is being choreographed by Kaecha Kampakdee, who is well known for his works in movies like Baahubali 2, Thuppakki, Bhaagi etc. VFX works is headed by RC Kamala Kannan. Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh is the cinematographer and M Jayachandran has been signed as the composer. An official announcement with details regarding the full cast will be made very soon.

Nivin Pauly’s first outing of the year Hey Jude was released earlier this month (February 2) and opened to positive reviews from the critics. Even as the movie is nearing a month of its successful theatrical run, it continues to get good response from the audience. Word of mouth has been extremely positive for this Shyamaprasad directorial and that is certainly reflecting in the audience count in theatres.

The makers have released a new song video through their official Facebook page. The song titled ‘Nisa Shalabhame’ is an sung by the highly talented Shaktisree Gopalan. Prabha Varma has penned the lyrics for this delightful song composed by M Jayachandran.

Hey Jude scripted by newcomers Nirmal Sahadev and George Kanatt is a simple feel good entertainer. It is basically a coming-of-age story of Jude, an oddball. How love and understanding transforms Jude after befriending with his neighbour Crystal and her father Sebastian, a neuropsychologist, forms the crux of the story.

Nivin Pauly as the differently abled Jude has given his career best performance. Though the movie has only a handful of characters, all of them – Siddique, Trisha, Vijay Menon and Neena Kurup – have given a performance worth remembering for a long time. Anil Kumar has produced the movie under the banner of Ambalakkara Global Films.
