Confirmed: Sathyaraj to play a prominent role in Prithviraj’s Kaaliyan!

Last day, Prithviraj’s magnum opus project ‘Kaaliyan’ was officially announced in an event held in Kochi. Debutant Mahesh S will be directing this epic movie, which is to be produced by Magic Moon Productions. BT Anil Kumar has scripted the movie after doing years of research works.

Kaaliyan is a period film based on the Southern ballads from the Venad region. Veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj who is hugely popular across the country for his role Kattappa in the Baahubali series is part of Kaaliyan as well. The makers have informed that Sathyaraj will be seen in a very prominent role in the movie.

The movie tells the story of a brave warrior, Kunchirakkottu Kali who lived in the 17th century in Venad. He was well known as Kaaliyan for his bravery. Kaaliyan was a trusted disciple of Iravikkutty Pillai, a legendary warrior from Venad. Though Iraivikutty Pillai and his life story went on to be a part of history, Kaaliyan remained an unsung hero.

Prithviraj had first announced this project back in 2015. Then he had posted a note on Facebook page which reads,

“The history of any land is crafted by men of valour and sacrifice — some of them we know and worship but most of them we never know and are forgotten. The courage and steadfastness of such unsung heroes are unparalleled in the history of Venad. The ballads of Venad, shrouded in the haze of time, is the story of heroic men like Chief Lieutenant Iravikutty Pillai and his trusted disciple Kunchirakkottu Kaali and thousands of other patriots who laid down their lives in defence of their beloved land. The lives, sacrifices and heroism of these immortal warriors of Venad will soon be relived through an epic.”

Prithviraj is playing the role of Kunchirakkottu Kali aka Kaaliyan. We presume that Sathyaraj will be essaying the role of Iraivikutty Pillai. The makers have decided to cast a bunch of newcomers for various other roles. They will be selected only through screenings which have been planned to be conducted in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and in different parts of Kerala.

The crew of Kaaliyan has a set of renowned technicians from Bollywood and Hollywood. Bollywood’s leading composer trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy is making their Malayalam debut with this movie. Sujith Vaassudev will be wielding the camera and National award winner Shajith Koyeri will be handling the sound design.

Murali Gopy and Indrajith share a very good rapport. Their healthy camaraderie off screen has always reflected on their movies. They have worked together in a number of movies like Ee Adutha Kaalath, Left Right Left, Kaanchi, Vedivazhipadu and more recently in Tiyaan. The duo is now coming together once again for a movie titled ‘Thaakkol’.

Debutant Kiran Prabhakar is directing Thaakkol which features Murali Gopy and Indrajith in the lead roles. According to the director, it is a mix genre attempt which deals with human psyche. The movie will have humour as well as thrilling elements in its narrative.

Both Murali Gopy and Indrajith have equal scope for performance in the movie. Apparently, both their roles in the movie are tailor made to showcase their strengths. They both have been extraordinary while trying to outperform each other in movies like Left Right Left and Kaanchi.

The upcoming movie Thaakkol has much prominence to sound and music. Osacr winner Resul Pookkutty will be handling the sound design while veteran M Jayachandran is in charge of the music department. Ace filmmaker Shaji Kailas is also part of the team as the executive producer. Shoot for the movie is slated to kick-start by the end of March.

Sunday Holiday director Jis Joy’s next to be announced on March 1

Jis Joy has established himself as a bankable filmmaker with both his movies, Bicycle Thieves and Sunday Holiday, emerging successful at the box office. Both the movies had Asif Ali in the lead role. While Bicycle Thieves was an average grosser, Sunday Holiday, released last year, was a superhit success.

Sunday Holiday was one of the biggest hits in Mollywood last year. The movie enjoyed a theatrical run of over 100 days in a good number of centres. A grand success party has been planned to be held in Muscat on March 1. On the occasion, director Lal Jose will also be announcing details regarding Jis Joy’s next project.

Though reports are doing the rounds in social medias about Jis Joy teaming up with Kunchacko Boban, it has not yet been confirmed by either of them. While Bicycle Thieves was a thriller, Sunday Holiday was a fun feel-good entertainer. So, it will be interesting to see what the director has come up with for his upcoming movie. Here’s the first look of Antony Varghese’s Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil

As informed by us earlier, the first look poster of upcoming movie Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil was unveiled today. Antony Varghese, who made an impressive debut with last year’s blockbuster Angamaly Diaries (AD), is playing the lead role in this movie. Vinayakan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Tito Wilson and a bunch of other actors from Angamaly Diaries are also part of the cast.

Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil is being directed by debutant Tinu Pappachan, who is a former associate of Lijo Jose Pellissery. The movie scripted by newcomer Dileep Kurian is tipped to be an action thriller. Antony plays Jacob, a Kottayam based youngster who works in a finance company.

As the title suggests, the core plot of this movie evolves over certain incidents that occur in a single night which turns the protagonist’s life upside down. As per the makers, the movie has quite a few high action voltage action sequences.

Shoot for the movie has already been wrapped up. The team is currently busy with the post production works. Cinematographer Gireesh Gangadharan and editor Shameer Mohammed who worked in Angamaly Diaries are handling their respective departments in this movie as well. Jakes Bejoy is composing the music and Deepak Alexander is in charge of the background score.

Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil is produced by BC Joshi and it will be presented by director B Unnikrishnan. Chemban Vinod Jose and Lijo Jose Pellissery are also part of the team as co-producers.

Expectations soaring for Parole after the highly impressive digitial flip!

It has been a while since Mammootty has played a role that offers him scope for performance. Most often it’s the star in him who takes center stage leaving behind the terrific actor in him unutilized. However, this year promises to be different as some of his upcoming movies have him in performance oriented roles. Sharrath Sandith’s Parole is one such film.

Mammootty plays the role of ‘sakhavu’ Alex in the movie. From the promos, we can make out that the movie travels through three different phases of his life. The newly released digital flip has various movie stills and memorable moments from the movie. Along with these photos, there are a few curiosity invoking captions like “it’s better to die fighting then to die giving”, “my family is my strenth and weakness”, “in a society of criminals the innocent man goes to jail”, “freedom is the oxygen of soul” etc.

Mammootty is seen in multiple looks in these photos. Fans as well as the commoners are eagerly looking forward to yet another amazing perfomance from him. According to the makers, Mammootty has given such an intense performance that would remind the viewers of his earlier days.

Ajith Poojappura has penned Parole based on some real life incidents. It is a common man’s story with a political background for the lead character. The movie has Ineya and Miya George as the two female leads. While Ineya plays Mammootty’s wife, Miya will be seen in his sister’s role.

‘Baahubali’ fame Prabhakar is playing a significant part in Parole. Suraj Venjaramoodu, Krishna Kumar, Irshad, Sijoy Varghese, Sohan Seenulal, Lalu Alex, Sudheer Karamana, Alencier Ley and Muthumani form the movie’s huge supporting cast. Parole is being produced under the banner of Antony D’Cruz Entertainment.

As informed by us last day, Magic Moon Productions have officially announced their upcoming project with Prithviraj. This epic movie titled as ‘Kaaliyan’ will be directed by debutant Mahesh S. An intriguing motion poster has also been released via Prithviraj’s official social media handle. The movie based on the Southern ballads from the Venad region is scripted by BT Anil Kumar.

It must be remembered that Prithviraj had first announced this project back in 2015. Then he had posted a note on Facebook page which reads,

Appani Sarath in Kismath fame Shanavas Bhavakkutty’s next!

Ever since he made an highly impressive debut with Angamaly Diaries, Sarath Kumar has been flooded with a sea of offers. Besides a handful of projects in Malayalam, he has also signed for a couple of Tamil movies which includes one with the legendary Mani Ratnam. We now hear that Sarath has committed for yet another movie in Malayalam.

Sarath will be next seen in the lead role in Shanavas K Bavakkutty’s next. The director made his debut in 2016 with the critically acclaimed Kismath. His matured work in presenting an intense love story had won him a lot of appreciation from the critics. He deservingly won the Kerala State Award for best debut director. The movie was also screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala.

More details regarding Shanavas’ upcoming movie with Sarath is not yet known. The actor is currently awaiting the release of Contessa. He will be joining the sets of Mani Ratnam’s multi starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam from the second week of March.

Prithviraj’s ambitious crossover movie Ranam – Detroit Crossing is gearing up for release. After the terrific response for the first sneak peak video, the makers have now released a new one via YouTube.

Ranam marks the directorial debut of Nirmal Sahadev, a former associate of Shyamaprasad. The movie shot entirely in the US explores the lives of the immigrant community in Detroit, Michigan. Prithviraj plays a Tamil street gang member in the movie, which is inspired by real life incidents. It is said to be a dark neo-noir thriller, a genre less explored in Malayalam cinema.

As per the makers, the move will have some high voltage action scenes. Christopher Brunetti, a renowned stuntman who has worked in many English movies, has choreographed the stunts in Ranam. Cinematography is handled by Jigme Tenzing. ‘Dhuruvangal 16’ fame Jakes Bejoy is composing the music and Sreejith Sarang is in charge of the edits.

The movie’s supporting cast includes veteran Rahman, Isha Talwar, Sampath Raj and Ashwin K Kumar of ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’ fame. Ranam is being produced by Anand Kumar Payyanur under the banner of Yes Cinema Company.

The last few years have been very hectic for Prithviraj. He has been doing movies back to back without any break whatsoever. In 2015, he did six movies while he was part of four each in 2016 and 2017. He already has three movies coming up for release this year – Ranam, My Story and the yet-to-be titled Anjali Menon film. But for the next two years, Prithviraj will be concentrating only on two movies – Aadujeevitham and his directorial debut Lucifer.

Aadujeevitham, directed by Blessy, is an epic project which has been planned to be shot in various schedules through the time span of which Prithviraj will be undergoing multiple physical transformations. In between these schedules, he will be directing Lucifer which has superstar Mohanlal in the lead.

Meanwhile, we hear that a new project of Prithviraj will be announced tomorrow. Magic Moon Productions is producing this movie, details regarding which will be officially announced tomorrow in an event held at Crowne Plaza, Kochi. Prithviraj is attending the function and he will be revealing the title and first look poster of the movie. It is said to be a magnum opus project, so there is a big buzz surrounding tomorrow’s event.

Malayalam cinema is still in the nascent stages when it comes to marketing and promotions but the last couple of years have witnessed a positive change. Filmmakers these days are very much involved in aggressively promoting their movies, especially in the social media space.

Mollywood has seen only teasers and trailers but the makers of Mammootty’s upcoming movie Parole have gone an extra yard to bring out something unseen here. A digital flip of the movie was released today via Mammootty’s official Facebook page. It is the first of it’s kind in Malayalam cinema.

The digital flip comprises of various movie stills and memorable moments from the movie. Parole was a less talked about movie until the curiosity invoking posters were released. The movie marks the directorial debut of ad filmmaker Sharrath Sandith.
