Padayottam: Biju Menon’s next is with the makers of Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol

Biju Menon has had a good 2017 with a couple of average grossers and a super hit film in Rakshadhikari Baiju. This coming year also, he has some promising films lined up like Rosapoo, Oraayiram Kinakkalal and another one with ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ fame Prajith.

Recently, the actor had signed for another film with newcomer Rafeek Ibrahim. First look poster of the movie has also been released. It is a gangster comedy which also stars Dileesh Pothan and Anusree in prominent roles. Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing this upcoming movie. It is their next after the success of Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, which hit screens earlier this year.

Padayottam is scripted by Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. Prashanth Raveendran is the cinematographer and Prashanth Pillai will be handling the music department. Shoot for the movie will be commencing only after Biju Menon wraps up his other prior commitments.

Meanwhile, the actor is busy shooting for Orayiram Kinakkalal. Pramod Mohan, who has previously helmed the popular sitcom Chumma- Just Fun, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Vinu Joseph’s fun entertainer Rosapoo will be his next release, gearing up to hit screens early next year.

National award winners Bobby-Sanjay’s next is with Mammootty!

Mammootty has a number of projects lined up next year. In January, he will start shooting for Abrahaminte Santhathikal, which marks the directorial debut of Shaji Padoor, a veteran associate director who has been industry for over 15 years. Haneef Adeni of ‘The Great Father’ fame is scripting the film. Mamankam, Kunjali Marakkar IV, Vysakh’s Raja 2 and Basil Joseph’s next are some of the other films in the pipeline

If reports are to be believed, Mammootty has signed for yet another project. Santhosh Viswanath, who made an impressive debut with Chirakodinja Kinavukal, will be directing this upcoming movie. The National award winning duo of Bobby and Sanjay are scripting the film, which is said to be a serious political thriller. Mammootty is reportedly playing the role of a chief minister in the movie.

From the outset, the project looks very promising as a political film will be a refreshing change for Mammootty from the usual mass commercial entertainers. Bobby-Sanjay duo is among one of the finest writers in the industry at present and so the audience can expect another quality film from them. Eventhough director Santhosh Viswanath’s debut film Chirakodinja Kinavukal flopped at the box office, critics praised the director for his attempt to make Malayalam cinema’s first ever spoof film.

The movie’s official announcement is expected to be made in January. Pre-production works are progressing and casting has not yet been finalized. Reportedly, the makers are planning to go on floors by the end of March.

Sivakarthikeyan-Fahadh Faasil starrer Velaikkaran continues to get great response from the audience. The movie was released last Friday and has taken the best opening for a Sivakarthikeyan film. Critics as well as the commoners have unanimously praised the film for the relevant message that it conveys.

Recently, superstar Rajinikanth watched the movie in a special screening and he liked the movie immensely. He rated it as an excellent movie that discussed a very important issue faced by the people. It seems like director Mohan Raja’s strong content has struck a chord with everyone.

Mohan Raja along with writer duo Subha has scripted a commercial entertainer with a very relevant social message in it. The movie is about how a slum dweller stands up against multinational corporate to fight against food adulteration. Velaikkaran explores the life of workers and discusses current social issues. The makers have dedicated the movie to the working class people.

Sivakarthikeyan plays Arivu, a slum dweller while Fahadh plays Aadhi, which is said to be a grey shaded role. They have two different perspectives on workers and are at loggerheads with each other. Nayanthara appears as Sivakarthikeyan’s pair in the movie.

Prakash Raj, Sneha, Rohini, RJ Balaji, Robo Shankar, Charlie, Vijay Vasanth, Mansoor Ali Khan and many others are part of the supporting cast. Anirudh’s music is another major highlight of the movie. RD Raja has produced Velaikkaran under his banner 24 AM Studios.

The Great Father is the only Malayalam movie in IMDB’s top 10 Indian films of 2017

Internet Movies Database or IMDB is a trusted website used by millions of cinephiles across the globe. The website gives access to movie reviews, ratings and details regarding any movie’s cast and crew. Every year, the IMDB publish top 10 list of films based on the user ratings and this year’s list was released last day.

The list is headed by Tamil film Vikram Vedha followed by SS Rajamouli’s epic film Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Megastar Mammootty’s The Great Father (TGF) is the only Malayalam movie in this list which is dominated by regional films.

Written and directed by debutant Haneef Adeni, TGF told a revenge story. Upon its release in March, the movie found critical acclaim and was lapped up by the common audience as well. The movie went on to become Mammootty’s biggest blockbuster till date. TGF holds the 10th position in IMDB’s list.

Massive opening for Velaikkaran!

Amidst high expectations, the Sivakarthikeyan-Fahadh Faasil starrer Velaikkaran was released last Friday (December 22). The movie has opened to excellent reviews from the critics and the commoners. It seems like director Mohan Raja’s strong content has struck a chord with the audience as the word of mouth is highly positive.

As per trade analysts, Velaikkaran grossed close to Rs 7.50 crores on the opening day from the Tamil Nadu box office alone. It is a surprisingly huge figure as the movie was released on a working day. In Chenani box office, the movie raked in around Rs 89 lakhs and stands 7th in the list of the top 10 highest opening day grossers.

From the first three days, the movie has grossed a whopping 2.88 crores. It is Sivakarthikeyan’s career best opening and also his first 1 crore gross day in the city. This huge opening is again a testimony to Sivakarthikeyan’s growing popularity among the Tamil audience.

Just like director Mohan Raja’s previous film Thani Oruvan, Velaikkaran also deals with a strong social issue. In the movie, Sivakarthikeyan has played the role of a slum dweller who fights against the system and the corporate. Fahadh Faasil, making his debut in Tamil, plays a grey shaded role and his remarkable performance is one of the film’s major highlights.

With the word of mouth getting louder and the Christmas holidays starting, Velaikkaran is expected to have a blockbuster run at the box office. RD Raja has produced the movie under the banner of 24 AM Studios.

Prithviraj, with a handful of exciting projects has a busy couple of years ahead. Besides his acting commitments, he is also turning a director next year with the much talked about Lucifer starring Mohanlal. Today, on the auspicious day of Christmas, the actor has announced a new project.

Prithviraj will be teaming up with Ranjith Sankar for a new film that is yet to be titled. The duo is jointly producing this upcoming movie as well. It was the director who first took to his social media handle to make the announcement. His Facebook post reads,

“Announcing a beautiful dream on this Xmas day..

The story of a young man who lived 9 lifetimes within his!

Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the young man and co produces this movie with me as well.

Prithviraj shared the post and also wrote,

“Will be looking forward to this one..actually..been looking forward to this one ever since you first told me the idea. Dreams and beyond my friend…dreams and beyond!”

This looks like a very promising film as Ranjith Sankar is someone who has most often given quality films. The director has previously worked with Prithviraj in Arjunan Sakshi and Molly Aunty Rocks. His last release, Punyalan Private Limited, the sequel to his 2013 hit film Punyalan Agarbathis, has successfully crossed 50 days in theatres.

On the other hand, Prithviraj’s latest release Vimaanam is getting fairly good response from the audience. He is currently shooting for Anjali Menon’s film in Ooty. After that he will be joining the final schedule of Roshni Dinaker’s My Story, in January.

Udhayakrishna announces Raja 2 through Masterpiece!

Mammootty’s Masterpiece was released on Thursday (December 21) to a thunderous reception from the fans. Though the critic reviews were mixed, the movie seems to have struck a chord with the commoners; especially among the youngsters who love to watch mass action flicks. Udhayakrishna has scripted the movie and is directed by Ajai Vasudev of Rajadhiraja fame.

Udhayakrishna also appears in a cameo role as himself in Masterpiece. When asked by one of the characters about his next film, he says it’s ‘Raja 2’, the sequel of Pokkiriraja. It is worth a mention that director Vysakh had announced the sequel earlier this year. But, since there were no further developments many presumed that the project has been shelved. But with scriptwriter Udhayakrishna himself making an announcement through Masterpiece, fans can be assured that the project is definitely on.

Raja 2 will have Mammootty reprising the character Raja from his 2010 blockbuster Pokkiriraja. It was Vysakh’s first film and the movie became a huge blockbuster. The director is now fresh from the historic blockbuster of Pulimurugan, so expectations are huge on Raja 2. This upcoming movie will not be a sequel to Pokkiriraja, only the character is taken forward to the next part. The story, backdrop and the setting will be entirely different.

Opening up more on Raja 2, director Vysakh had earlier said, “Since the sensibilities of today’s audience is not the same as in 2010, Raja 2 will be a more racy and technically advanced movie. It will be an action packed entertainer that can be enjoyed by the fans, kids and the families as well. It will have all necessary elements that one would expect in a Mammootty starrer – a complete package with action, humour and family drama.”

Reportedly, Raja 2 will be a big budget film and Tomichan Mulakupadam is funding it under his banner Mulakupadam Films. The movie is being planned as a trilingual in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. It is not yet known when Mammootty would start shooting for this film as he already has a long list of projects coming up next year. Let’s wait for an official announcement from the maker’s side.

Much is expected from his second film as Vijay Devarakonda is a phenomenal actor with a big fan following. The youngster’s performance as the surgeon who becomes an alcoholic post break-up is rated as one the finest in recent years. Audience are already excited about him foraying into the Tamil film industry.

Meanwhile, Vijay is also shooting for legendary actress Savithri’s biopic Mahanati, helmed by his ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ director Nag Ashwin. He is playing the role of a journalist in the film which also stars Keerthy Suresh, Samantha and Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan. Mahanti is also being dubbed in Tamil as ‘Nadigayar Thilagam’.

After the blockbuster success of Thani Oruvan, director Mohan Raja is back with another socially relevant commercial entertainer. This time with a huge star cast led by Sivakarthikeyan and Fahadh Faasil. Amidst all the hype, let’s see how Velaikkaran has fared.

Velaikkaran, just like Thani Oruvan, deals with a very relevant social issue. While that film was about medical mafia this one is about food adulteration. It is again how a film about how a single man leads a fight against the system, but what makes Velaikkaran interesting is its well researched writing. Mohan Raja and Su Ba have evidently put in a lot of efforts in the writing, which acts as the movie’s backbone.

Making his Tamil debut with a grey shaded role, Fahadh has towered over every other actor by owning almost the entire second half.

Nayanathara’s portions looked half-baked just like how it was in Thani Oruvan. Her character could have been written much better to utilize the brilliant actress in her. The movie has a massive supporting cast and the director has given atleast one scoring point for them. Veteran actors Rohini and Prakash Raj were the best among them.

Anirudh’s songs became a hit even before the film’s release. His background score is also apt for the film’s mood. He has single handley elevated several mass scenes with his thumping score. Ramji’s visuals and art director T Muthuraj efforts to make the sets look real and convincing deserve a big round of applause. On the negative side, the movie was a tad too long which could have been avoided by chopping of a few portions in the latter half.

Dulquer and Amaal, an architect, got married on December 22 in 2011. They are one of the most adorable couples in the industry and are often spotted together in award shows and other events. This year’s anniversary is special for the lovely couple as it is their first after turning parents. Amaal gave birth to a baby girl in May this year. They have named their little angel as Maryam Ameerah Salmaan.
