Jayaram to play the lead in Salim Kumar’s next directorial

Salim Kumar, apart from being a good actor has also tried his hand in filmmaking. His debut directorial Compartment discussed about the problems of special children. All the lead characters in the movie were done by children who were mentally and physically challenged.

But, in an unusual move, Salim Kumar withdrew the film from theaters as a protest against the lukewarm reception accorded to the film by film-viewers and theater owners.

His second directorial was Karutha Joothan, which was released only last week. The film deals with the Jewish history in Kerala of 2000 years. Salim Kumar’s story for the movie won him a Kerala State Award last year.

According to latest reports, Salim Kumar is gearing up to start works on his third directorial. Reportedly, veteran actor Jayaram will be playing the lead role in this yet to be titled movie. Details about the remaining cast and crew members have not yet been revealed. Salim Kumar is planning to commence the shoot by October. It is still not clear whether this upcoming movie will also be an off beat one similar to Salim Kumar’s previous films.

Jayaram, meanwhile is going through a rough patch. His last release Achayans was an average success in the box office eventhough critics slammed the movie. His next release will be Aakashamittayi, the official remake of Samuthiraknai’s Tamil movie Appa. Aakashamittayi also starring Shamna Kasim and a bunch of kids is expected to hit screens very soon.

Thala Ajith’s Vivegam was released on August 24 amidst tremendous hype. The movie has opened to mixed reviews from the critics. Many have pointed out Siva’s medicore direction skills as the reason for the let down. Despite the mixed word of mouth, there has not been any big impact on the movie’s box office collections. Fans have given a tremendous reception for the movie across all the release centres in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay fans and Ajith fans as always have indulged in trolling and mocking each other’s movies. Vivegam’s mixed reviews has made way for excessive trolls in social medias. Vijay and Ajith are two of the biggest stars in South India, both of whom have an enviable fan following. Even while the fans are fighting over their films and stardom, the two actors have always maintained a very healthy relationship.

Ruben, one of Kollywood’s most sought after editors is the only common link in Mersal and Vivegam. He has simultaneously worked in both these big ticket films. Ruben, upset over the negativity in socila medias, has now written a note on his Facebook page urging the fans to show some maturity. In his post, he has written about how the makers of both the films had a mutual understanding and respect for each other.

Apparently, Vivegam’s trailer was postponed for Mersal single release and likewise Mersal’s teaser release has been pushed respecting the release of Vivegam. He also requested the fans not to spread hatred.

Ruben’s Facebook post is now trending virally across social media platforms. Many have appreciated him for showing the guts to open up on such an issue rather than maintaining a comfortable silence like what others are doing. A former assistant to veteran Antony, Ruben has worked in several superhit films like Raja Rani, Theri etc.

Chanda Mama Door Ke is an upcoming space film which explores how India succesully completed its space mission. The movie is being directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, who has earlier helmed the critically acclaimed film Lahore.

Sushant Singh Rajput, Madhavan, Shraddha Kapoor and Nawazuddin Siddiqui play major roles in the movie. Sushant and Nawazuddin are playing astronauts in the film while Madhavan will be seen as a test pilot. The latter will be soon heading to NASA where he will be undergoing basic training to play his part authentically.

Sushant recently returned from the US after an intense training session at NASA’s Space & Rocket Centre in Alabama. He underwent underwater 5DF simulator, moon gravity and other training exercises there. He also experienced spacesuit, neutral buoyancy, centrifuge, zero gravity, moon walking and International Space Station (ISS) operations. Hollywood technicians who have worked on films like Apollo 13 and The Martian are also involved in the technical side of this film.

Reportedly, this upcoming movie is inspired by the Hollywood movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick. The film traces the journey of India’s space programme and culminates with India’s first astronaut landing on the moon in 2017-18.

Chanda Mama Door Ke is being produced by Viki Rajani and is slated to hit screens early next year.

Director Mohan Raja’s Velaikkaran is an eagerly awaited movie. Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara are paired for the first time with this movie. Mollywood’s most talented actor Fahadh Faasil is also making his Tamil debut with Velaikkaran.

The movie’s interesting teaser released few weeks days back also raised the expectations. The makers are eyeing to release it by the end of September and promotions have already begun.

Anirudh Ravichander, the movie’s composer has announced that the first single will be released on August 28. It is a fast ‘kuthu’ track, which probably is the one featuring Sivakarthikeyan which is shown in the teaser.

Anirudh’s album for Velaikkaran is highly anticipated as he has alwayd delivered good songs for Sivakarthikeyan’s movies. This is also the first time he is working with director Mohan Raja.

Velaikkaran, like the director’s previous movie Thani Oruvan, also deals with a very relevant social issue. Sivakarthikeyan is playing the role of Arivu and Fahadh’s character is named as Aadhi. The movie also stars Sneha, Prakash Raj, Vijay Vasanth, Thambi Ramiah, RJ Balaji, Rohini and Sathish in supporting roles. RD Raja’s 24AM Studios is producing this movie.

Happy to share space with the ‘Indian Macho’ Prabhas in Saaho: Arun Vijay

Prabhas’ Saaho, his first film in five years out of the Baahuabli franchise, went on floors only recently. Saaho, directed by Sujeeth is a big budget project and the makers are roping in leading actors from other industries to give it a pan Indian appeal. To cash in on Prabhas’ nationwide popularity, the movie is being made as a multilingual in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam languages. Several actors from across the industries have been brought on board to act alongside Prabhas.

Promising Tamil actor Arun Vijay is one among them and he is reportedly playing a very integral part in the movie. As per reports, Arun Vijay has got a solid character which has several layers and holds much prominence to the plot. He recently took to his Twitter page to express his happiness in acting alongside Prabhas.

Despite being in movies for nearly two decades, Arun Vijay found his biggest success only recently when he played the villain to Thala Ajith in Gautham Menon’s Yennai Arindhaal (YA). Post YA, Arun Vijay has been part of many good films. His last release Kuttram 23, in which he played a forthright cop, was a successful film in the box office.

Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh is playing the antagonist in Saaho. Shraddha Kapoor is paired opposite Prabhas and Jackie Shroff is also essaying a pivotal part in the movie. Prabhas is hugely popular across the country after the success of Baahubali. Audience are eagerly looking forward to his upcoming projects. For Saaho, he is seen sporting a new look with a trendy hairstyle and a much leaner physique.

The movie is being produced by Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati. Famed trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy is handling the music department and renowned cinematographer R Madhie is cranking the camera. International stuntman Kenny Bates, popular for his work in Hollywood films like Die Hard and Transformers has been roped in to choreograph the stunts in Saaho. The movie will be releasing only by the end of next year.

Fahadh recently completed the first schedule of Trance in Kanyakumari. It is one of the most awaited projects of the season as Anwar Rasheed is known to give only quality films. Reportedly, Trance will be the director’s most expensive film till date.

It is being made on a budget of Rs 15 crores, which is quite a big figure considering the limitations of Malayalam film industry. The director himself is funding this movie under his banner Anwar Rasheed Entertainment.

Trance has some big names associated with it like Oscar award winner Resul Pookkutty and Amal Neerad. The former is handling the sound design of the film while Amal Neerad is cranking the camera.

Controversy’s favourite kid Kamal Rashid Khan aka KRK is at it once again. The self proclaimed social media celebrity has mocked Tamil superstar Ajith and earned the ire of scores of Thala fans. Ajith’s Vivegam was released last day and had a tremendous reception from fans worldwide.

Kamal R Khan took to his Twitter page to troll Ajith calling him ‘Budhe’ (old man) and added that actors like him would get to only father roles in Bollywood. Here’s what KRK has tweeted,

“Ajith Ji, actually Budhdhe actor like u play father role in Bollywd but I don’t know how do Tamil ppl accept u as hero. Congrts for #Vivegam.”

KRK is someone who thrives on negative publicity and is known for lambasting popular celebrities during the time of their movies’ release just for the sake of being trolled. His insulting remark about Ajith has not just irked Thala fans, but his contemporary Vijay’s fans as well. Social medias are flooded with trolls on KRK and fans have slammed him directly with a series of tweets on his official handle.

Meanwhile, Vivegam has opened to mixed reviews from the critics even while lavishing praise on Ajith’s hardwork. The movie is a spy-thriller featuring Ajith as a foreign agent in a counter terrorist squad. Kajal Agarwal is playing the female lead while Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan has done a brief cameo role. Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi makes his Tamil debut by playing the antagonist in this movie. Satya Jyothi Films have funded this movie on a whopping budget of over Rs 100 crores.

Nayanathara is called as the ‘Lady superstar’ of South Indian cinema for a reason. She is probably the only actress who has been getting so many heroine-centeric movies. Just like in the case of leading male stars, scripts are being written for Nayanthara. Of late, the actress has been on a signing spree committing for some big projects.

Latest to the list is Co Co, another female oriented film to be directed by debutant Nelson Dilipkumar. The movie was launched today by Sivakarthikeyan through his official Twitter handle. He shared the movie’s motion poster which introduced the cast and crew members.

Director Nelson had earlier made a movie titled Vettai Mannan with Simbu, Hansika and Jai in the lead roles but it got shelved due to some unknown reasons. He is also the creative director of the Bigg Boss Tamil show.

Lyca Productions, one of the most established banners in Kollywood, is funding this movie. They have produced biggies like Vijay’s Kaththi and Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi 150. They are also funding the upcoming big ticket films like Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 and Kamal Haasan’s Sabash Naidu.

Nayanthara, of late has been taking up only projects that offer her good scope for performance. Ko Ko is a dark comedy and the movie also stars Saranya Ponvannan and Yogi Babu in prominent roles. Anirudh will be handling the music department in this upcoming movie.

Director Shankar and his team is busy with the post production works of 2.0, the highly anticipated sequel to his 2010 blockbuster Enthiran. The movie stars two of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars Rajinikanth and Shankar locking horns. A short making video of this magnum opus has been released by the makers today on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi.

The video which is just under two minutes gives a glimpse of the spectacular works that are going behind this movie. There’s robots, massive sets, green room studios, high speed action sequences, battle tanks and what not!

Lyca Productions is investing a whopping budget of Rs 450 crores, which is the highest for any Indian fim currently under production. Shankar has written this sci-fi thriller jointly with Jeyamohan. Many internationally renowned technicians involved in the technical side of the movie. Hollywood stunt choreographer Kenny Bates known for his works in films like Transformers, Pearl Harbour and Die Hard is choreographing the stunts in 2.0.

Academy Award winner A R Rahman is composing the music and Resul Pookkutty is in charge of the sound design. Acclaimed cinematographer Nirav Shah is wielding the camera. Legacy Effects, who have worked in movies like Avengers, Jurassic Park, Iron Man etc are working on the animatronics department.

2.0 is being planned as a multilingual in all major Indian languages. In addition to that there will be Japanese and Chinese versions also. The makers are eyeing to release the movie in January next year during the Pongal season.

Prithviraj is an actor who is well known for his straightforwardness. Unlike other actors, he is open to admitting failures and never beats around the bush. He is perhaps the only actor in Mollywood who is crystal clear while expressing his thoughts and opinions. Recently, Prithvi was asked about the reason behind his much hyped movie Tiyaan.

Prithviraj feels that the lack of clarity as the main reason for the movie’s poor performance. He also admitted he cannot fault the audience as it was the mistake of the team members including himself. According to Prithviraj, the movie’s politics lies in the concept of humanity above all religious beliefs. The makers failed to convey this idea properly.

Tiyaan, directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar was released amidst tremendous expectations. Murali Gopy scripted the movie which was publicised as a pan Indian product.

The movie had a plethora of other noted actors like Indrajith, Mrudula Sathe, Ranjeet, Padmapriya, Ananya, Shine Tom Chacko, Rahul Madhav, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Prakash Bare and Paris Lakshmi among others. Tiyaan ended up as of the most disappointing films of the season.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj is awaiting the release of Adam Joan. The movie which marks the directorial debut of Jinu Abraham is slated to hit screens for this Onam season. It is being produced by Brijeesh Mohamed, Josemon Simon and Nihal. Renji Panicker will be presenting this movie under his banner Renji Panicker Entertainment.
