Fan craze is something that Indian audience are well known for. In the name of showing their unconstitutional love for their matinee idols, fans celebrate new releases with bursting crackers, milk ‘abhishekams’ etc. Recently, Ajith fans out of their excitement damaged a theatre’s screen in Chennai.

Ajith’s much awaited Vivegam was released on August 24 amidst tremendous expectations. Fans were excited to the core to see Ajith on big screen after two years. During the movie’s screening in the popular Rohini theatre, fans went overboard and poured milk on the screen during Ajith’s introduction scene. The screen got damaged and the movie had to be stopped halfway.

Rohini theatre’s executive director Revanth Charan publicised the news. Rohini Silver Screens is one of the most prestigious theatres in Chennai and hence it is very unfortunate that such an incident occurred there.

Vivegam is an spy thriller directed by Siruthai Siva. The movie also stars Vivek Oberoi, Akshara Haasan and Kajal Agarwal in prominent roles. Sathya Jyothi films have invested a whopping budegt of over Rs 100 crores for this ambitious movie. Reportedly, the movie has already grossed over Rs 60 from the box office worldwide.

One of the most important but unfortunately lesser talked about departments in the film industry is the stunt department. The stunt men are the ones who risk their lives doing dangerous action sequences. Their efforts and dedication had largely gone unnoticed. But they are slowly getting their recognition. Last year, the government had also introduced a category for best stunt choreography.

Recently, the stunt union celebrated their Golden Jubilee (50th year) function in Chennai. It was a star studded event that witnessed the presence of several celebrities from across South India. Some of the celebrities who were present for the function were Rajinikanth, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Suriya, Karthi, director Shankar, Prabhu Deva, Dhanush, Vishal, Jayam Ravi, Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan, Arya, Vikram Prabhu, Soundarya Rajinikanth etc. Suriya and Karthi’s father, Sivakumar, also attended the ceremony, and donated Rs 10 lakh to the Stunt Union.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who was on a trip to Bhutan, made a surprise entry to the function. The actor wore a traditional ‘kavi mundu’ and it complemented well with his bearded look. It is probably his new avatar for Odiyan, which recently went on floors in Varanasi.

Meanwhile, the superstar’s Velipadinte Pusthakam is gearing up to hit screens on August 31 as an Onam release.

Soubin Shahir’s Parava pulls out of Onam race?

We are hardly a week away from the kick-start to the much anticipated Onam race. This year, almost all the major stars are having releases. Mohanlal’s Velipadinte Pusthakam, Mammootty’s Pullikkaran Staraa, Prithviraj’s Adam Joan and Nivin Pauly’s Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela are the four movies that have already been confirmed as Onam releases.

Soubin Shahir’s debut directorial Parava was also expected to hit screens during this season but we now hear that the release has been pushed to September 14. An official confirmation about the release date is still awaited. Parava is eagerly awaited by the audience courtsey the highly impressive songs and intriguing posters.

Parava, as the title suggests, the movie is connected to birds and it is reportedly about the pigeon racing practiced in the Fort Kochi, Mattanchery regions in Kochi. Dulquer Salmaan has played an extended cameo in the movie. The young star has pinned high hopes on Parava. He will be seen in a new look, sporting a moustache-less beard in the movie. Eventhough it’s a cameo role, his character will be of great importance in the storyline.

Parava stars Kismath fame Shane Nigam and some newcomers in major roles. Harisree Ashokan’s son Arjun Ashokan, late actor Sainudeen’s son Dhinil Sainudeen, Siddique, Aashiq Abu, Indrans, Jacob Gregory, Srinda Arhaan and many others are also part of the cast.

Parava is jointly scripted by Soubin Shahir and Muneer Ali. Littil Swayamp, noted for his works for the popular music band Thaikkudam Bridge’s Navarasa series, is cranking the camera for this movie. Rex Vijayan is handling the music department.

Filmmaker Anwar Rasheed and Shyju Unni are jointly producing this movie under the banner of Anwar Rasheed Entertainments.

Ajith’s Vivegam storms past the 50 crore mark!

Thala Ajith’s highly anticipated Vivegam was released on August 24 in around 3000 screens all across the globe. This Siva directorial had tremendous pre-release hype majorly due to the highly impressive promos teasers and songs. Vivegam opened to mixed reviews with many criticizing Siva’s lacklustre direction even while lavishing praise on Ajith’s efforts and hardwork.

However, the mixed reports has not really affected the movie’s box office collections. The film reportedly raked in a whopping Rs 33.08 crore worldwide, with Rs 25.83 crore from Indian box office alone. In Tamil Nadu, the movie grossed Rs 17 crore on the opening day thereby becoming Ajith’s best ever opening. The film, however, failed to beat superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali, which earned Rs 21 crore on day one in TN box office.

On its second day, Vivegam earned more than Rs 30 crore worldwide. So far, Vivegam is said to have grossed Rs 66 crore from its first two days of theatrical run. The bookings for Saturday and Sunday have also been very good so the makers will be hoping that the movie enters the elite hundred crore club with the first week theatrical run itself.

Vijay Sethupathi is currently on an all time high after delievering the biggest success of his career- Vikram Vedha. The cop-gangster action drama also starring Madhavan has emerged as a huge success both critically and commercially. But Vijay Sethupathi has no time to enjoy all that as he is busy working on multiple projects.

The actor presently has around six new movies in his kitty. He is teaming up with Gokul of Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (IAB) fame for a film titled ‘Junga’. Reportedly, Vijay Sethupathy will be seen as a don in the movie. Junga is said to be a rom-com entertainer which according to the makers will be a lot more quirkier and interesting than the duo’s previous outing IAB.

North Indian beauty Sayyeshaa, who impressed one and all with her perfomance in Vanamagan has been roped in to play the female lead. She plays the role of a girl who is born and brought up in Paris. Interestingly, Junga is Vijay Sethupathi’s first movie to be shot in a foreign country though songs have been shot before. Sabu Joseph is editing the movie and Siddharth Vipin is handling the music department.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi’s long delayed Puriyatha Puthir is all set to hit screens on September 1. The movie directed by debutant Ranjith Jeyakodi is a psychological thriller in which Gayathrie of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom fame plays the female lead.

The director, who is a very active social media user, recently had an interaction with his fans and followers in Twitter. Many asked him about his future projects, favourite actors, filmmakers etc. One of them asked Selvaraghavan about his favourite Malayali actor. The director instantly replied superstar Mohanlal’s name.

Selvaraghavan has been a huge fan of Mohanlal for a long time and he has admitted it several times in the past. During the time of Drishyam’s release, the director had showered praise on Mohanlal’s performance. Last day, during the interaction Selvaraghavan also called Nivin Pauly his dream hero. It must be remembered that Selva is a very big of Nivin’s Premam who had urged filmmakers not to remake the movie.

Selvaraghavan enjoys a huge fan following among the Tamil cinema audience. Selva, unlike other filmmakers is not used to making formulaic films. He has got a style of his own and comes up with something unique in all his movies.
After the release of Nenjam Marappathilai, he will be teaming up with Suriya and later with his brother Dhanush. He is also planning to make a sequel to his widely acclaimed movie Aayirathil Oruvan.

Prithviraj starrer Adam Joan is gearing up to hit screens this Onam season. The movie’s second teaser was released today via the star’s official Facebook page. It introduces the movie’s protagonist Adam who is shown arriving at a funeral spot in Scotland. The teaser also gives a small hint about Adam chasing down a group of 11 people.

Adam Joan marks the directorial debut of scenarist Jinu Abraham who has previously scripted Masters and London Bridge. This upcoming movie promises to be an edge of a seat revenge thriller. Prithviraj plays Adam, a high range planter who manages his family business and properties after his father passes away. The movie stars Bhavana, Mishti Chakraborty, Rahul Madhav and Narain in major roles.

Major portions of the movie has been shot in Scotland. Narain is playing the role of Cyriac, his friend from college. Veteran actor Siddique, Lena, Jaya Menon and Baby Abida Hussain, who played Akshay Kumar’s daughter in Airlift, are also part of the cast.

Adam Joan is being produced jointly by Brijeesh Mohamed, Josemon Simon and Nihal. Renji Panicker will be presenting this movie under his banner Renji Panicker Entertainment.

Thala Ajith’s Vivegam continues to do good business in Tamil Nadu inspite of all the mixed reviews. Eventhough critics have have different views on Siva’s medicore direction skills, the one thing that is unanimously appreciated by everybody is Ajith’s performance. The veteran star has put his heart and soul into this movie right from shedding weight to developing a chiselled physique to performing riskt stunts in freezing temperature.

Actor-director-choreographer Raghava Lawrence took to his Facebook page to shower praise on Ajith’s efforts. He also condemned the review posted by noted YouTube reviewer of theTamil Talkies channel. He urged the cinema industry union to stand united to take prompt action against this particular reviewer.

“I watched Ajith Sir’s Movie Vivegam, hats off to his hard work .. and also I have gone through all the reviews given by various people and they have mentioned both plus and minus about the movie but While watching blue sattai Maaran’s review I really felt bad and hurting…
There are so many scenes which are really impressed and extraordinary shots but he didn’t say single word about the hard work and crew.

It is not like movie review; instead of it is individual attack of Actor Ajith sir and his fans.. I request, Cine industry Union people and responsible managing people to take prompt action towards Blue sattai Maaran who is not eligible person to criticize the movies in cine industry. Thank you”

This must be a very proud moment for Nivin Pauly as Selvaraghavan is a highly respected filmmaker. To get an acknowledgement of this sort from a director of his stature is indeed a great achievement for Nivin. After the release of Nenjam Marappathilai, Selvaraghavan will be teaming up with Suriya and later with his brother Dhanush.

Meda Meedha Abbayi: Watch the trailer of Oru Vadakkan Selfie’s Telugu remake

Nivin Pauly’s Oru Vadakkan Selfie, released in 2015, was a comedy entertainer that also discussed about a relevant social message. The movie directed by G Prajith emerged as a big success in the box office. Prajith is now remaking the movie in Telugu as Meda Meedha Abbayi.

The Telugu version stars Allari Naresh and Malayali actress Nikhila Vimal in the lead roles. They will be reprising the roles played by Nivin and Manjima Mohan in the original.

It is learnt that the director has slightly tweaked the movie’s plot to suit the nativity and sensibilities of the Telugu audience. Vineeth Sreenivasan, apart from scripting the original had also played a major role in it.

Nikhila Vimal is making her Telugu debut with Meda Meedha Abbayi. The pretty actress made her debut as the female lead in Dileep’s Love 24×7. Last year, she also made her entry to Kollywood with Vetrivel in which she was paired opposite Sasikumar.

Chandra Sekhar, Hyder Ali and Prasad Varma have jointly helmed the screenplay of Meda Meedha Abbayi. The Telugu version’s makers have retained Shaan Rahman to handle music department. Bhoppana Chandrasekhar is producing this movie under the banner of Jaahnavi Films.
