Prithviraj in Anjali Menon’s next

Prithviraj in Anjali Menon’s next

Anjali Menon kept a very low profile after giving the sensational blockbuster Bangalore Days in 2015. She was away from all the limelight for a while before working on a script a love story with Dulquer Salmaan as the lead, but unfortunately the project could not materialize.

Now the latest we hear is that, Anjali Menon is all set to wear the director’s hat for her next movie with none other than Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead. The two have earlier worked together in her debut directorial Manjadikuru. Prithviraj played a cameo role in the movie, which won several accolades at the regional and international level.

Details regarding her upcoming movie with Prithviraj are not yet revealed but the reports are indeed trustworthy. Earlier, her project with Dulquer Salmaan was to be directed by actor/filmmaker Prathap Pothen. They worked on the project for a long time before Prathap Pothen pulling out owing to creative differences with Anjali Menon.

Anjali has proven her mettle as both a filmmaker and a scenarist through her works- Manjadikuru, Ustad Hotel and Bangalore Days. Ustad Hotel, written by Anjali, won the National award for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment and also won her an award for best dialogues.

Expectations are already soaring high for her movie with Prithviraj. Like others, we are also waiting for an official confirmation from either of them. Stay tuned for more updates.

January, February releases were all commercially successful : Suresh Kumar

2016 was a golden year for Malayalam cinema as the year witnessed the release of several blockbusters including Mollywood’s biggest success till date, Pulimurugan. The industry on whole was going through a golden phase before it hit roadblock in the form of the cinema strike.

The theatre owners association Exhibitors Federation headed by president Liberty Basheer demanded a 50-50 profit share from the theatrical collections of new releases. The producers and distributors staunchly opposed their demand fearing losses. Though several rounds of talks were held between the two parties, they failed to reach a consensus. Finally, the issue was resolved after the state government and actor Dileep’s timely intervention.

A new union was formed and it is now headed by Dileep and Antony Perumbavoor. The new union named as Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) was supported by the producers and the distributors association.

Several existing rules were revamped for the betterment of the industry. Movies scheduled to hit screens for Christmas were finally released by January end due to the strike.

They were alloted release dates by the new union after discussions with the producers, theatre owners and distributors. Recently, producer’s association president Suresh Kumar in a chat with a media group revealed that most movies that were released in the January- February window were commercially successful. However, some much awaited films that were released in the following months could not repeat the same.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol, Prithviraj’s Ezra and Jayasurya’s Fukri were the four major releases during this period.
