Great opening response for Mammootty’s Puthan Panam

Mammootty- Ranjith team’s Puthan Panam hit theaters today. The movie clearly depicts the demonitisation that was implemented in our country by the the Prime Minister. The movie had released in 135 screens all over Kerala.

As expected from the two teasers and the trailer, the movie has an interesting story line and a well packed technical crew. Apart from these, the Megastar has given a stunning performance along with the veteran director Ranjith’s quality brilliance. In Mollywood, there are only a very few filmmakers who can deliver quality outputs with both class and mass movies, and Ranjith is one among them. Mammootty is in great form as Nithyananda Shenoy. His terrifically enunciated Kasargod slang and his famed ability to portray layered characters is on display once again in Puthan Panam.

The movie though had high level expectations, was also put down at times by the critics stating it to be an other Loham. The impact the trailer had given also resembles small storylines from the Mohanlal- Ranjith film. But after the first few shows the fans have marked their words that this is a solid film which is not another Loham and is worth the wait.

Earlier, Mammootty-Renjith team had produced a blockbuster Pranchiyettan and the Saint, which was well acclaimed by the audience worldwide. The fans believe that as Pranchiyettan, this film too would mark it’s name in the box office.

Puthan Panam is certainly the best Mammootty starrer in recent times. The veteran actor is famous for his impeccable prowess in bringing life to characters with a distinct slang and mannerisms. Other actors in the movie are Siddique, Master Swaraj, Baiju, Mamukoya, Kanaran Harish, Indrans, Ineya, Sheelu Abraham, Ganapathi, Niranjana Anoop and Vishak Nair.

Kerala Box Office : 1971 Beyond Borders Collection Report 3 Days

1971 Beyond Borders, the fourth installment in the Major Mahadevan series had released in theaters on the 7th of April. Marking a milestone, the largest release for a Mollywood film worldwide hit 405 screens.

Opened to mixed reviews from the critics, the movie had a good technical side but lacked a solid script. Mohanlal, apart from the other parts is seen reprising dual roles, Major Mahadevan and Colonel Sahadevan. The movie though had a record breaking release, failed to put that in effect at the box office. The movie on the first day had managed to gross only Rs 2.80 crores from the 180 odd screens in Kerala. Considering Mohanlal’s recent blockbuster run, the opening day figures for 1971 Beyond Borders was hugely disappointing.

After 3 days prior to the release, the movie has grossed Rs. 4.5 crores in the box office. According to the present stats, we get to know that the movie is still receiving up good feedbacks from the Major Mahadevan fans.

The makers didn’t invest much on the promotional side and hence the hype surrounding the movie was very minimal. Also the fact that Major Ravi- Mohanlal team’s last few movies were failures also worked against this movie.

The film, based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war was made as a big budget movie with a huge star cast. The makers had roped in several actors from other industries to give a pan Indian appeal to the movie. It is produced by Haneef Muhammed under the banner Red Rose Creations.
