Puthan Panam will be really special: Dulquer Salmaan

We had earlier shared the official first look poster of Mammootty’s upcoming movie Puthan Panam, directed by ace filmmaker Ranjith.

The poster has been trending in social medias. Young sensation Dulquer Salmaan has shared the poster in his official Facebook page. Along with the poster he has also written,

“Here is another superb project from Ranjiettan & Team ! From what I’m hearing it’s gonna be really special.”

Puthan Panam has Mammootty playing the character of Nithyananda Shenoy, a middle aged businessman from Kasargode. He will be seen in a salt and pepper look in the movie. Dulquer’s post about the movie has increased the expectation levels among the fans.

Puthan features Ineya and Sheelu Abraham as the female leads. Siddique, Renji Panicker, Sai Kumar, Mamukoya, Biju Pappan, Suresh Krishna, Aanandam fame Vishak Nair, Harish Kanaran, Swaraj and Nirmal Palazhi will also be seen in supporting characters.

Kollywood cinematographer Om Prakash who has worked in movies like Maari and Kashmora is cranking the camera in this movie. Shahabaz Aman is handling the music department.

The movie is produced by 3 Color Cinemas, a new production house owned by director Ranjith, actor Arun Narayan and a Mumbai based businessman Abraham Mathew.

Puthan Panam is expected to hit screens during the Vishu season.

A memorial for Kalabhavan Mani in his hometown

Sculptor Da Vinci Suresh, a close friend of late actor Kalabhavan Mani, has built a new statue as a memorial for him. The statue will be placed in the library near Kalabhavan Mani’s house.

Kammattipadam fame Manikandan Achari unveiled the 8 feet statue today morning. Kalabhavan Mani’s brother RLV Ramakrishnan approached Suresh to sculpt a memorial for his brother. Suresh himself took the entire expense of the work.

Kalabhavan Mani passed away on March 6 last year. His death came as a huge shock to the Malayalis. He was hospitalised by his close acquaintances after he vomited blood and fell unconscious in his outhouse. There are still many unanswered questions and mystery surrounding his death. The police have been investigating the case for the past one year.

The highly anticipated campus political drama Oru Mexican Aparatha was released yesterday to rousing reception from the youngsters. The team of Oru Mexican Aparatha, including the director and producer have informed that the movie has grossed over Rs 3 crores.

Director Tom Emmatty revealed that the movie made a gross collection of Rs 3.25 crore on the opening day while producer Anoop Kannan while the talking to the media said that the movie grossed more than Rs 3 crores.

If the reports are to believed, then it is the second highest first day grosser in Malayalam cinema after Pulimurugan. Dulquer Salmaan’s last release Jomonte Suvisheshangal had registered Rs 2.71 crores from its opening day. Prithviraj’s Ezra grossed Rs 2.65 crores while Mammootty’s biggest opener Kasaba had grossed Rs 2.48 crores.

This shows the rising popularity of Tovino Thomas. With the release of OMA, Tovino has gone a step higher and achieved his first ever solo blockbuster. The movie was released amid high expectations among the youngsters majorly due to the movie’s slant towards the communist ideology.

Oru Mexican Aparatha also features Roopesh Peethambaran, Neeraj Madhav, Gayathri Suresh, Kalabhavan Shajon, Sunil Sukhada in supporting characters.

Tovino Thomas’s highly anticipated campus political drama Oru Mexican Aparatha (OMA) was released yesterday to a rousing reception. The movie had high expectations among the youngsters majorly due to Tovino’s rising popularity and the movie’s slant towards the communist ideology.

Theatres witnessed heavy rush for the movie, the kind of rush that we normally get to see for superstar movies. Most theatres had a festive atmosphere. Audience, especially the youngsters have lapped up the movie. Critics have also given excellent reports.

OMA team have informed that the movie has grossed more than 3 crores from the opening day. Director Tom Emmatty revealed that the movie made a gross collection of Rs 3.25 crore on the first day while producer Anoop Kannan while the talking to the media said that the movie grossed more than Rs 3 crores.

However, the authenticity of these reports are still not known. Official reports from trade sources have still not been announced. Thanks to the positive word of mouth, weekend shows for the movie in most multiplexes have already been sold out. Tovino’s rising popularity among the youngsters will have a great impact in the box office collections.

1971 Beyond Borders release date confirmed

Major Ravi- Mohanlal team’s highly anticipated war drama 1971 Beyond Borders is in the final stages of post production. The movie’s official teaser was released recently to massive response from the fans. It has trending ever since the release in social media platforms.

Mohanlal in a live video interaction with his fans has announced that the movie will release on April 7 as a Vishu release. Some other major releases like Nivin Pauly’s Sakhavu and Dulquer Salmaan’s CIA is expected to hit screens during the Vishu holidays. Mammootty’s The Great Father is scheduled to release on March 30.

1971 Beyond Borders is based on the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Mohanlal is playing a dual role in the movie. He will be seen portraying the characters of Mahadevan and his father Sahadevan. This is the fourth movie in the Major Mahadevan series after Keerthichakra, Kurukshetra and Kandahar.

The movie features Tollywood hero Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunoday Singh in pivotal roles. Asha Sarath, model turned actresses Priyanka Agarwal and Zoya Zayed Khan, Sudheer Karamana, Srushti Dange, Renji Panicker, Saiju Kurup and many others are also part of the supporting cast.

Sujith Vassudev has wielded the camera while Rahul Subramanian and Sidharth Vipin have scored the music. This big budget movie is produced by Haneef Mohammed under the banner Red Rose Creations.

We had told you that Mammootty is currently shooting for 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar’s upcoming entertainer. Mammootty is playing the role of a tutor in a teacher training institute.

Shyam Dhar in a recent interview shared more details about the movie and his experience working with Mammootty.

He said, “I wanted to do something different from my debut movie. 7th Day was a dark thriller but my new movie with Mammootty has a different tone and background. He liked the script and he was happy to work with a new team. He is very cool in the sets and comfortable to work with. He told me not to do any compromise for him, he just wanted the character to be like what the script demanded. His character is a very jovial person, so the same positive energy reflects in our sets.”

The director had earlier informed that, Mammootty is playing an Idukki native who comes to Kochi as a teacher trainer. His character considers every student as a child and they love his lectures as he connects and explains everything with an anecdote. He is a fabulous story teller and the film will reveal the reasons for the same.

Nee-na fame Deepti Sati and Asha Sarath are playing the female leads in the movie. Innocent, Dileesh Pothen, Hareesh Kanaran and Sohan Seenulal will be seen in supporting characters.

Story and screenplay for this movie is written by debutant Ratheesh Ravi. The movie is being produced by will B Rakesh and Mohammed Salim under the banner MSM Cinemas. M Jayachandran ia composing the songs for this movie.

SFI and KSU activists clash after Oru Mexican Aparatha screening

Tovino Thomas starrer Oru Mexican Aparatha was released yesterday to overwhelming response from the audience. The movie written and directed by debutant Tom Emmatty is a campus political drama.

Tovino Thomas, the protagonist plays a left wing activist in the movie. He represents the party SFY and the opposition KSQ is headed by the antagonist, Roopesh Peethambaran. To avoid controversies, the makers have taken the cinematic liberties to alter the names of the political parties to SFY and KSQ.

Prior to the release itself, Oru Mexican Aparatha was publicised as a left supporting movie. It was evident from the huge rush in the theatres. SFI activists had flocked the theatres and the movie has enough reasons for them to celebrate.

However, things went ugly in Ernakulam when SFI and KSU activists clashed at the theatre complex after the movie. A video clip of the incident is going viral in social medias.

We request all the audience to watch a movie purely as a piece of art. The prime objective for any movie is to entertain the audience. So a brawl in the name of a movie will not be something that the makers would want to see.

Anarkali Marikar who won the hearts of Malayali youngsters with her tomboyish looks in Aanandam, is now playing an important role in Prithviraj’s Vimaanam.

Though she had a full length role in Aanandam, she did not have many dialogues or scope for performance. Her character Darshana was the quiet and creative person of the group.

In debutant Pradeep M Nair’s Vimaanam, she is playing a very pivotal role. She will be seen as Gauri, a teenager in the movie.

The actress in a recent interview to Times Of India revealed that she has a solid role to perform. Her character will have a lot of scope for performance.

Apparently, Prithviraj has helped her a lot with some much valuable tips about acting. She is quoted saying, “He takes the effort to teach me how to face the camera, adjust my tone and body language. He is a serious guy but comfortable to work with.”

Vimaanam is a story about a speech and hearing impaired man who builds an aircraft on his own. The story is inspired from the real life of Saji Thomas, hailing from Idukki.

It is being made on a big canvas involving a lot of VFX works for the flying scenes. Listin Stephen is producing the movie. Nedumudi Venu, Lena, Alencier Ley, Praveena, Sudheer Karamana, Saiju Kurup, Shanthi Krishna and many other prominent actors are also part of the cast.

Dulquer Salmaan’s latest release Jomonte Suvisheshangal is nearing 50 days in the theatres. The movie still continues to do good business. Like other Sathyan Anthikad movies, families have taken a liking to this one also. Dulquer’s massive fan base has also proved commercially beneficial for the movie.

According to latest reports from trade sources, the movie has collected Rs 31.50 crores from the worldwide box office. In Kerala alone, the movie has grossed Rs 17.50 crores. The rest of India collections amount to approximately 3 crores. In UAE and GCC, the movie has grossed Rs 8.5 crores while the figures from US, UK and all other overseas centres is estimated to be around Rs 2 crores.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal, even after receiving mixed reviews from the critics has managed to do such great business. The movie written by Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram deals with an endearing father-son relationship.

Veteran actor Mukesh has played Dulquer Salmaan’s father in the movie which also features two female leads in Premam fame Anupama Parameswaran and Kollywood actress Aishwarya Rajesh.
