Kerala Box Office : Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol Collection Report 10 Days

Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has successfully entered its second week of theatrical run. The movie opened to unanimously positive reviews from both the critics and the common audience. Collection wise also, the Mohanlal starrer has opened to big numbers.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has grossed a whopping 19.65 crores from the 10 days of its run from theatres in Kerala alone. When adding the all India collections, the movie would have certainty crossed the Rs 20 crore mark.

This family entertainer directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob has already completed 5000 shows. Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is the fastest to have completed 5000 shows after Pulimurugan.

In Trivandrum district alone, the movie has grossed 75 lakhs. From this, 46 lakhs was collected from the Aries Plex theatres alone. Mohanlal also registered a rare hat-trick feat in the Kochi Multiplexes. All his last three releases- Oppam, Pulimurugan and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol have crossed the 1 crore mark in the Kochi multiplexes box office.

Mohanlal has four of his movies in the 1 crore grossers list in the Kochi multiplexes. Director Jeethu Joseph’s all time blockbuster Drishyam is the other Mohanlal starrer in the list. Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol had grossed an amount of Rs 8.65 crores from the first four days alone.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is a family entertainer written by M Sindhuraj. The movie stars Meena as the female lead opposite Mohanlal. Anoop Menon, Srinda Arhaan, Aima Rose Sebastian, Sanoop Santhosh, Rahul Madhav, Neha Saxena, Kalabhavan Shajon, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sharafudheen, Asha Sarath and many others have played supporting characters.

Sophia Paul has produced this movie under the banner Weekend Blockbusters.

Tabu to replace Vidya Balan in Aami

National award winning actress Tabu is all set to make comeback to Mollywood. According to latest reports, Tabu will replace Vidya Balan in director Kamal’s ambitious project Aami.

Aami is a biopic on revolutionary writer Kamala Das’ life. She was fondly called as Aami by her followers. Vidya Balan was initially cast to play the lead role but the actress recently backed out of the project over creative differences with the director.

As per the sources, director Kamal approached Tabu to play the titular role. Reportedly, the senior actress is highly impressed with the screenplay and is keen to be part of the movie. Tabu is a two time National award winning actress who is known to deliver power packed performances in all her characters. Tabu unlike other actresses, signs only for substantial characters. So the lead role in Aami would be a perfect comeback vehicle for the actress to Mollywood.

Vidya Balan backed off from the project, after she was unhappy with the last minute changes in the script. It was reported that the actress opted out due to political reasons- Kamal, a left wing supporter openly trashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi- but her spokesperson made it clear that she walked out due to strictly professional reasons.

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Murali Gopy are also part of the cast. Aami will be produced by P T Rafel on a budget of 5 Crores. Thoufeeq Quershi is the music director for the movie while Oscar award winning sound designer Resul Pookkutty is also part of the technical team.

Arun Kumar Aravind’s next with Asif Ali

Director Arun Kumar Aravind who was away from the industry for sometime now is coming back with a revenge drama. The director has roped in Asif Ali to play the lead role. Scriptwriter/ actor Murali Gopy is also an important role in this yet to be title movie.

Arun Kumar Aravind has directed acclaimed movies like Cocktail, Ee Adutha Kaalath and the cult political drama Left Right Left. His last movie was One by Two with Murali Gopy and Fahadh Faasil in the lead roles.

The screenplay for the upcoming movie is written by legendary filmmaker Padmarajan’s son, Ananthapadmanabhan, who had earlier scripted the movie August Club starring Murali Gopy and Rima Kallingal.

The film is based on a short story by the iconic filmmaker Padmarajan. Asif Ali’s character in the movie is a complex one which requires lot of preparation. Reportedly, the story happens in a village in rural Kerala and the team is currently scouting for locations at villages near the borders of the State.

Deepak Dev will be scoring the music for this movie which is being planned to go on floors by March end.

Arun Kumar Aravind is an editor turned filmmaker who has worked in a number of movies including Bollywood films. He is quite a popular filmmaker among the movie buffs of the State, known for his unique style of filmmaking with bold themes. Except One by Two, all his other movies as a director has got appreciation from the critics and the audience.

So when he announced this project with Asif Ali, that too based on a short story by the legendary director Padmarajan, expectations have soared high.

Surumi’s drawings of nature in major cities of India is ready for sale. The paintings are being sold for humanitarian activities of the independent organization ‘Vas’, in which Mammooty, Surumi and her husband Dr Rehan Sayeed are trustees.

Surumi’s husband Dr. Rehan Sayeed is the Chairman of Motherhood Hospital. She said that her family supports her wholeheartedly while drawing. Her husband Rehan encourages her during each stage of the drawing. She also added that her father, mother and younger brother Dulquer Salmaan also give encourage her to do better. She is intending to organize an exhibition after doing some more drawings.

Whenever he comes back from foreign visits, Mammootty makes sure to get his daughter some of the best available drawing instruments and colours. These gifts helped Surumi improve her artistic abilities.

Surumi was very interested in paintings from her childhood itself. She regularly participated in all the competitions and has bagged many prizes for drawing at the school level. Her passion and love for paintings enrolled her in the Stella Maris Fine Arts College in Chennai. After doing completing her graduation in Chennai, she did her Masters from the Chelsea College of Arts, London.

Interestingly, it was Surumi who designed the logo of their home production and distribution banner Playhouse Entertainments.

Now we hear that Money Ratnam fame actress Nivetha Thomas, who has already done a few films in Telugu, has also bagged a biggie with young star NTR Jr. The film, which is an action drama, will be directed by Ravindra and also has Raashi Khanna as the heroine.

She will start shooting for the film from June or July. A source added, “She has not signed the film yet as she is currently busy with a film starring Nani.” Nivetha will be travelling to the US to shoot her upcoming movie with Nani in the lead. This is her second film with the actor, after the hit movie
Gentleman. Popular actor Aadhi Pinisetty also plays a major role in the film, which is predominantly set in the US.

The movie directed by Ravindra starring NTR Jr in the lead has a village backdrop, and as per reports from the Telugu media, the actor will also appear in multiple roles with a rural look in the movie.

Dileep’s new association puts an end to Liberty Basheer’s Exhibitors Federation

Calling off the cinema and the subsequent formation of the new union under actor Dileep has put an end to the Exhibitors Federation. The association now exists just for namesake purpose. Exhibitors Federation headed by Liberty Basheer had a steady foothold in the industry even during the several crisis situations in the past. But now the members are slowly withering away and joining the new association formed by Dileep and co.

The General Body meeting that was called during the cinema strike had 102 members while the meeting yesterday witnessed only around 50 members. It is expected that the remaining members will also join the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) presided by Dileep. This new union is backed by the government, producers and distributors association. The Exhibitors Federation members fear that they will not be provided with new releases. So the existing Exhibitors Federation members are also joining the new union formed.

In the recent General Body meeting, some members alleged that Liberty Basheer’s leadership was the reason behind the current situation and that he should immediately resign from the post. President Liberty Basheer and others resigned their post and handed over the administration to the Advisory Committee. However, Liberty Basheer has claimed that he resigned the post because his tenure will be ending on January 31st and hence will preside the advisory committee. But the remaining members have said that there is no need for the Federation to function as most of the members have joined the new union.

Actor Dileep is the president of Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) producer MC Bobby is working as the general secretary. Antony Perumbavoor, KE Ijaz, G George are the vice presidents of the new union.

Nivin Pauly’s new Tamil movie titled as Richie

Youth star Nivin Pauly’s new Tamil movie directed by debutant Gautham Ramachandran is gearing up for release. The movie was earlier speculated to have many titles- Avargal, Santa Maria. But now the makers have finally zeroed in on Richie as the title.

The director himself announced the title of the movie. “We have fixed Richie as the title and it is Nivin’s name in the film. We had considered a lot of options and producers Anand Kumar and Vinod Shornur felt that Richie would be perfect for the film. The title design and the first look poster will be released in the coming week.”

Currently, the post-production work of the movie is underway in Chennai. Nivin Pauly himself is dubbing for the movie. This is the first time the actor is dubbing in Tamil so he is taking a lot of time getting the diction right. According to the director, almost 75% of the dubbing port has been wrapped up. The makers are planning to release the movie this summer.

Richie is the official remake of super hit Kannada movie, Ulidavaru Kandanthe. The Tamil version will focus on two important characters played by Nivin Pauly and Natty aka Natarajan Subramanian. The movie stars Shraddha Srinath, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramoul, Prakash Raj, Elango Kumaravel, GK Reddy and Naveen Kunjumon in important roles.

Nivin Pauly enjoys massive fan base in Tamil Nadu after the success of his 2015 blockbuster movie Premam. The movie had a theatrical run for more than 200 days in Tamil Nadu, which is considered a rare feat even for a Tamil film.

Richie is eagerly awaited both by the Tamil and Malayali audience.

The movie directed by veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad has been lapped up by the family audience. The movie has entered it’s second week of theatrical run and there is still no dip in the audience count.

Recently, Jomonte Suvisheshangal crossed the 1 crore mark in Kochi multiplexes. It is now the eighth Dulquer Salmaan starrer to enter the list. This is the highest by any actor and that proves Dulquer’s crowd pulling ability especially in the urban centres.

From this list, only Charlie and Kammatipadam are the exceptions. While he played a do- gooder bohemian kind of role in the former, he essayed a coming of age gangster role in Kammatipadam.
