Salim Ahamed’s next with Young Super Star Dulquer Salmaan ?

Award winning filmmaker Salim Ahamed few months back through his official Facebook page announced that his next movie will be about cinema. It is learnt that the director is planning to cast Dulquer Salmaan for the lead role in this movie. Reportedly, the movie will be about a youngster and his struggles to become a filmmaker.

If this project happens it will certainly have the career performance of Dulquer Salmaan. Salim Salim Ahamed is a filmmaker who is known to extract the best out of his actors. His debut movie had Adaminte Makan Abu had Salim Kumar in the lead role. The actor’s performance was unanimously appreciated and it won him his first National Award for best actor. Mammootty also gave amazing performances in Kunjananthante Kada and Pathemari.

Meanwhile, there are also reports about Salim Ahmed teaming up with Mammootty once again for a movie titled as Mappila Khalasi. But the authenticity of these reports have not yet been confirmed.

Dulquer Salmaan already has some exciting projects lined up. His next release will be the untitled Amal Neerad movie in which he is playing the character Aji Mathew. After that he has Solo, a multilingual directed by Bollywood filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar. He is also doing a cameo in Soubin Shahir’s directorial debut Parava.

Lal Jose-Unni R team’s Oru Bhayankara Kamukan, debutant Salam Bukhari’s commercial entertainer, Pulimurugan director Vysakh’s high voltage mass action movie are some of the other movies in his kitty. He has also signed for a Tamil movie with the debutant filmmaker Ra Karthik. The movie is said to be a romantic entertainer and a travelogue.

Shoot for debut director Anzar Khan’s upcoming thriller Lakshyam was progressing at a brisk speed before an unfortunate incident forced an unscheduled break.

Lakshyam written by Jeethu Joseph features Biju Menon and Indrajith in the lead roles. Shoot for the movie was progressing in Athirappilly where Biju Menon suffered a hand injury. It is learnt that the actor slipped down and fell on his hands while filming a running sequence.

Initially the team thought that he was fine and it was just a minor fall but next day he experienced a shooting pain. Scan tests revealed a hairline fracture in his hand. Biju Menon was ready to shoot after a day’s break but the team was not willing to risk it as he had a few more action scenes that could aggravate his injury. Shoot for the movie is now put on on hold for a week till he recovers completely.

Jeethu Joseph’s script is based on director Anzar Khan’s tele film Mukhamaukham. Indrajith plays an IT professional, while Biju Menon does the role of a slum dweller. Sshivada Nair is playing the female lead in the movie. Shammi Thilakan and Kishore Satyan are also part of the cast.

Lakshyam revolves around the two convicts being transported from Peermade to Ernakulam. The team will also be filming in Malayatoor, Vagamon and Thommankuthu.

Malayalam film industry is in a period of transition. Generally, Malayalam movies are known for their novel themes and rooted to realistic portrayal of life events made with minimum production values. But of late, there is a conspicuous change in the mindset of filmmakers in Mollywood. They are willing to try out new genres and plots at a bigger scale.

Mammootty’s Karnan is one such project which is long awaited. Actor/writer P Sreekumar who is the scriptwriter of is movie had earlier confirmed that the scripting is in its final stages. Meanwhile, the pre-production works for this big budget movie are in full swing. Earlier it was reported that Karnan will be made on a budget of 70 crores.

Our sources close to the camp inform that apart from Mammootty a promising young star from Mollywood is also playing an important character. The movie is expected to start rolling by the end of this year. The basic plot of the movie will be focusing on the life of the historic character Karnan from the epic Mahabharatham.

Writer P Sreekumar had also informed that Kurukshetra war will be a very pivotal part in the movie. Karnan’s character has a lot of scope performance and Mammootty will be relishing this opportunity to once again display his impeccable acting prowess. An official confirmation regarding the other cast and crew details is still awaited from the makers side.

Interestingly, RS Vimal who debuted with Ennu Ninte Moideen is also doing a movie based on the life of Karnan. Prithviraj is playing the main lead in the movie which is being made as a multilingual featuring popular stars from other industries also. This movie is produced on a whopping budget of 300 crores. Preproduction works of which have already begun in Ramoji Rao Film city in Hyderabad.

It will be very interesting to see two of the finest actors portraying the same character in two different movies. Mollywood will be witnessing something very unique. Mammootty’s performance in movies like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja is considered as a textbook for acting in historic characters. That gives him a certain upper hand over Prithviraj.

After a dry spell of almost a month, thetares are back to full swing with all the new releases doing good business. Jomonte Suvisheshangal starring Dulquer Salmaan was the first to hit screens on January 19 followed by Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol on 20.

Both the movies opened to good response from the family audience. Dulquer once gain proved his crowd pulling ability by registering the non Pulimurugan record for the highest grosser in Kerala. The young star has once again bettered Mohanlal in the satellite rights price.

While Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol was brought by Surya TV for an amount of Rs 5.80 crore, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal was brought by Mazhavil Manorama for a whopping 6.10 crores. The movie has thus entered the top league of actors with high satellite values. Mohanlal, Mammootty and family audience favourite Dileep are the top three actors in the list.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal’s huge business shows the impact of Dulquer Salmaan among the family audience as well. Earlier his fan base was mostly confined to the youngsters but with the release of this movie directed by veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad, he has widened his fan base to audience of all the age groups.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal was a story about a rich businessman and his family. Once the business fails, all he is left with his youngest son who through hard work wins back their properties. After the release of the movie, there were remarks about the similarities in the plots between Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Nivin Pauly’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam, but all that didn’t have any effect on the audience count as families are still thronging to theatres in large numbers.

According to trade experts, Jomonte Suvisheshangal is expected to continue it’s good run in the coming weeks also.

NAFA awards 2017 announced; Nivin Pauly and Manju Warrier wins the best actor categories

North American Film Awards for the year 2016 was announced yesterday in Kochi. The organizers announced the winners through a press conference. Nivin Pauly bagged the best actor (male) while Manju Warrier won the award in the female category. The awards ceremony will br held on July 22 in NewYork.

The winners were selected through an online voting among the North American Malayalis. The winners were declared six months earlier itself for attaining the VISA and other travel papers. Around 50 prominent stars from Malayalam and other film industries will be part of the function in NewYork. This is the second edition of NAFA Awards presented by Freedia Entertainment.

Last year she signed for Aami, her comeback vehicle to Mollywood. The movie set to be directed by Kamal was a biopic on revolutionary writer Kamala Das. However, the actress recently opted out of the project after some creative differences with the director.

Lalu Alex himself has now cleared airs about the reason for his son’s register marriage. The couple is planning to settle down in Bristol in England. They had to be legally married for Visa and other immigration reasons, so they officially registered their marriage.

Generally, industry insiders are aware about which project a particular actor is currently working on. But when it comes to Prithviraj, even his close associates aren’t aware about what he is currently up to. The actor has committed for so many movies that one is left wondering, “why he is being such a workaholic”, “does he ever spend time with family?”.

But Prithviraj being Prithviraj, finds time for all that. He regularly spends quality time with family and at the same is dedicated to his craft. He is always on the look out to push the barriers further.

Over the last two months, the actor was shooting in Portugal for debutante Roshni Dinaker’s My Story. He also had a short family vacation in Switzerland before returning back to India on January 10.

After completing his portions for Tiyaan, he will fly back to Portugal to can the remaining portions of My Story. Final schedule of the movie is planned to be filmed in Kochi.

Debutant Pradeep M Nair’s Vimanam, screen turned filmmaker Jinu Abraham’s debut work Adam, Photographer turned filmmaker Jamesh Kottakkal’s debut directorial Beautiful Game, RS Vimal’s big budget epic drama Karnan, Nirmal Sahadev’s Detroit Crossing, a sci-fi thriller with Jenuse Mohamed and Blessy’s Aadu Jeevitham are the Malayalam movies he has comitted as of now.

Apart from that he is playing a prominent role in the Bollywood movie Naam Shabana, prequel to Akshay Kumar’s blockbuster film Baby. He has also signed for a multistarrer- multilingual movie with popular filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon. He is also set to make his directorial debut with Lucifer starring superstar Mohanlal in the lead.

Like others, we are also not sure on when he will work on all these movies. But we strongly believe that Prithviraj is moving in the right direction striving hard to give a major facelift to the Malayalam film industry. His next release is Ezra, a horror thriller, scheduled to hit screens on February 9.
