Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s next movie with the two film old Atlee is all set to go on floors next month. The duo teamed up last year for the all time blockbuster Theri which was one of the top 3 grossers in South Indian cinema last year. So expectations are obviously on the higher side for this movie.

To exceed the expectations Atlee has pulled off a casting coup of sorts. The director has roped in a huge line of stars for this upcoming movie tentatively titled as Vijay 61. The movie will have three heroines in Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Agarwal and Jyothika. Filmmaker turned actor SJ Suryah, veteran actors Sathyaraj, Vadivelu and Kovai Sarala are also part of the cast.

Another exciting information to share with you all is that the movie will be a semi period film. Some portions of the movie will be set in the 80s in the rural backdrop of Madurai. It must be noted that Vijay is sporting a different look for the film with a thick twirled moustache and a beard. According to sources, a major portion of the movie will also be shot in the US.

Academy Award winner AR Rahman will compose the music for this highly anticipated movie. This is the third time AR Rahman is scoring for a Vijay starrer after Udaya and Azhagiya Tamizh Magan. Antony Ruben is the editor while GK Vishnu will handle the cinematography.

Shoot for the movie is likely to begin on the first week of February in Chennai.

We had earlier in the day reported that Mohanlal’s next with B Unnikrishnan will have Kollywood star Vishal and Tollywood actor Srikanth in pivotal characters. Both the actors will be making their Mollywood through this movie.

This untitled movie will be made on a bigger canvas with a budget of Rs 30 crores. Rockline Venkatesh who has produced biggies like Superstar Rajinikanth’s Lingaa and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be funding this movie.

Mohanlal is playing the role of an ex-cop in this movie which will be a crime thriller dealing with complex relationships. The director has assembled a strong technical team roping in some of the best available technicians.

The movie will have importance to VFX and special effects. An international company from Poland will be handling the VFX works.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal continues to get mixed response from the audience. The movie was received with mixed reviews form the critics who pointed out the lack of novelty in the movie. But these reviews have not had a great impact as it is evident from the number of families visiting the theatres.

The movie had a similar plot to Vineeth Sreenivasan’s super hit movie Jacobinte Swargarajyam starring Nivin Pauly in the lead. Movie buffs pointed out the similarity in the plots that paved way for trolls and even criticized the makers for copying the story.

Director Sathyan Anthikad has now responded to the allegations thrown upon his movie. He said, “these allegations started doing the rounds soon after the movie was released. Our movie went on floors after Jacobinte Swargarajyam was released. People should atleast understand that a senior filmmaker like me and an acclaimed scriptwriter like Iqbal Kuttippuram will never do a movie that has similar shades to some other movie. We will never such foolishness like copying the plot from a hit movie.”

“Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal also had a father- son relationship between Jayaram and Tilakan. It was there in Manasinakkare also between Jayaram and Innocent. In Rasathanthram it was Mohanlal and Bharath Gopy. All these movies were about affectionate sons. Achuvinte Amma showed a relationship between a mother and daughter. Is it like, this movie deals with a father son relationship, so no more movies should be made like that?”

Earlier writer Iqbal Kuttippuram also responded to the allegations. He said, “The basic plot of both the movies are the same but that doesn’t mean that Jomonte Suvisheshangal is copied from Jacobinte Swargarajyam. I had finished the scripting when Jacobinte Swargarajyam was released last year. We were about to start the shoot for our movie when that movie was released. I went to see Vineeth Sreenivasan, who is a very close friend of mine. We talked about the similarities in the plots, but he supported me to move forward with the project. Both the movies are entirely different and apart from that this story can happen in any family.”

Much talked about couple, Kavya Madhavan and Dileep got married on November 25 in a private ceremony in Kochi. Their wedding was met with mixed response-some supporting them and some with severe derogatory comments. Both the actors were trolled like never before in social media pages.

Though the actress didn’t react to it immediately, after a silence of over two months, she has now filed a police complaint against the the cyber bullies, who tried to defame her. Kavya Madhavn has filed a complaint to the Ernakulam range IG after some users have uploaded offensive comments on the official Facebok page of her online clothing store.

The IG has now forwarded the complaint to Kalamassery police station. The police have now asked Facebook to remove the abusive comments and trolls from the page based on her complaint. They have also approached Facebook to track down the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the user’s server to initiate action against they culprits. The offenders will be booked under the IT act. Though Kavya Madhavan had asked to take action against all online trollers who had cyber bullied her, the police are only focusing on those, who directly commented on the page of online clothing store.

Kavya’s father, P Madhavan explains what made her choose a legal route. “We were left with no choice, but to take strong action against those, who tried to tarnish her image. How long can one tolerate such defamation?” he asks

Dileep and Kavya Madhavan have been in the news for several years. The two were constantly in the gossip links but they kept declining it and maintained that they were just good friends. So the immediate reaction following their marriage was outrage, though the issue has settled down now.

Even after 100 days of its theatrical release, Pulimurugan does not fail to create news and discussions in social media pages. Social media is abuzz with photos of dummy tigers used for the movie’s shoot. Many trolls are also doing the rounds in the cyberspace making fun of the team’s efforts.

Captain of the ship, director Vysakh himself has come out to clear airs about the use of dummy tigers in the movie. He said that, while shooting for movies with animals it is a general practice to use dummies to get an idea about the length and camera angle before the actual shoot begins.

“Dummies are made with the actual weight and shape of the real tigers tigers that will be used for shooting. This is a purely technical aspect and those who work in the technical departments can understand it. We cannot go and ask the tigers to perform according to our wish. So we should be well equipped prior to the actual shoot and using dummies will give a picture of how to film these scenes.”

“All the scenes involving the tigers in Pulimurugan, were first shot with dummies to figure out where the camera should be placed, the angle needed, and the timing of the artists. These photos were first uploaded in Facebook by the art director of the film Jospeh Nellikkal, he can give a better detailed analysis about the brainwork behind this technique”, explained Vysakh.

Hollywood movies like Life of Pi and The Revenant have used similar techniques where dummy animals are used while shoot to ensure safety of the actors.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s upcoming movie Aby which was entwined in legal issues can fly high now as the Ernakulam Munsif court has dismissed Pradeeep M Nair’s plea to stay the release of Aby.

Aby written by Santhosh Echikkanam and directed by Srikanth Murali was caught in legal trouble after the team of Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Vimanam filed a case against them. Both the movies deal with a similar plot of a youngster who builds an aircraft on his own out of his love for flying.

Saji Thomas, a deaf and mute man hailing from Idukki was the inspiration behind the story. He had overcome all his physical disability and financial constraints to build an aircraft on his own.

Aby’s writer Santhosh Echikkanam first wrote a script about a boy and his love for flying. When he heard about Saji Thomas’ story, Santhosh met him to learn more about his life and experiences. He later incorporated some of Saji’s real life events in his script.

However, Pradeep M Nair brought the rights to make Saji’s life into a feature film. So when the team of Vimanam heard about Aby’s similar story, they approached FEFKA. When that didn’t find a solution they filed a case in August to stall the shoot of Aby. The court dismissed their plea following which they filed a case on personality rights grounds. This is probably the first time in the history of Malayalam cinema that a case was filed on personality rights.

After the legal issues, Santhosh Echikkanam reworked on his script and removed the scenes inspired from Saji’s real life. Aby was the first to go on floors. Vineeth Sreenivasan’s character Aby is not physically challenged while Prithviraj is playing a deaf and mute person in Vimanam.

Eros International was initially set to produce Aby but later backed out due to the legal issues. Later Suvin K Varkey came forward to produce the movie under the banner Little Big Films. The team of Aby overcame all the troubles and successfully completed the shoot.

After watching Aby and going through the scripts of both these movies, Ernakulam Munsif Court pronounced the judgement in favour of Aby’s team.

Aby’s trailer was released few days back to good response in social media pages. The movie is expected to hit the screens soon.

We had earlier reported about popular Kollywood actor Vishal playing an important role in the movie. Mohanlal himself has now made it official through a post in his official Facebook page. The post reads,

“Happy to announce my next flick written and directed by Unnikrishnan B. Production by renowned producer Sri. Rockline Venkatesh who has produced films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Linga. Actor Vishal is playing a very crucial role in the film.”

Director Jis Joy who made his debut in 2013 through the comedy-thriller Bicycle Thieves is joining hands again with Asif Ali. This upcoming movie titled as Sunday Holiday will be an out-and-out comedy subject.

Maheshinte Prathikaram fame Aparna Balamurali is playing the female lead in this movie. The director claims that the movie will have a very realistic romantic thread that is quite different from what we have seen lately. The romantic angle will be a prominent one, but at the same time very earthy, like the ones in Tamil movies like Veyil and Engeyum Epothum.

The movie will have a two layered narrative. One is all about an incident that happens on a particular Sunday, while the rest follows the life of a band set master and his son. Alencier Ley is playing Asif Ali’s father in this movie. Director Lal Jose, Siddique, Sreenivasan and Asha Sarath also feature in important roles.

Asif Ali is currently shooting for Thrissivaperoor Kliptham which also features Aparna Balamurali as the female lead. Recently the actor in an interview said that he will certainly give his best as an actor but cannot guarantee that all his movies run for 100 days in theatres. He said, “My commitment as an actor is to do my role in the best way possible. I can’t guarantee that my films will run for 100 days. A lot of people put in their effort to bring out a movie. When it becomes a hit, they say it’s Mohanlal’s film or Mammootty’s film. A movie is not just about the stars, large number of people who make it work with the director at the helm should get the major share of credits.”

He also talked about his movies in the 80s and 90s that are still being celebrated by the youngsters. “Our people like watching old movies. One thing I have noticed in new gen films is that there’s at least one scene or song that refers to yesteryear films such as Thoovanathumbikal or Chitram. So, there’s still acceptance for those movies.”

Mohanlal has some exciting projects in his kitty- 1971 : Beyond Borders directed by Major Ravi, untitled crime thriller with B Unnikrishnan, a big budget movie with Priyadarshan, Lucifer directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and the epic bid budget movie Randamoozham.
