Vineeth Sreenivasan praises Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol

After a dry season of almost a month due to the theatre strike, Malayalam movies started hitting the screens from last week. Youth star Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal was the first to release on January 19 followed by Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol on 20.

Both the movies are getting good response from the viewers especially the family audience. Actor/filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivasan recently praised both the movies through a status update in his official Facebook account.

Vineeth has written that the chemistry between the lead actors were the major attraction of both these movies. While Mohanlal and Anoop Menon shared great humour between them in Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, it was Dulquer Salmaan and Mukesh who played the father and son in Jomonte Suvisheshangal. He also had a word of praise for Vidyasagar’s background music in Jomonte Suvisheshangal.

This appreciation from Vineeth Sreenivasan comes at a time when many viewers have pinpointed the similarities between Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Vineeth’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is written by M Sindhuraj and directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob. Meena played the female lead in this movie. Sindhuraj has written the movie based on the popular short story Pranayopanishath by James VJ.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal is written by Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram and directed by veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad. Premam fame Anupama Parameswaran and Kollywood actress Aishwarya Rajesh have played the female leads in this movie.

Manyam Puli: Telugu dubbed version of Pulimurugan completes 50 days

Mohanlal’s all time blockbuster movie Pulimurugan is still running in some theatres in Kerala even after completing it’s 100 days theatrical run. The movie directed by Vysakh was the first Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club and later went to on to touch the 150 crore mark. It is also the first ever movie to complete 40,000 shows in Kerala.

Telugu dubbed of Pulimurugan, titled as Manyam Puli was released on December 2nd. The movie opened to spectacular response from the Telugu audience minting big bucks from the box office. Telugu medias reported that Manyam Puli registered around 5 crores on the opening day itself.

The movie had stiff competition from Ram Charan starrer Dhruva, but it still continued to hold with steady collections at the Tollywood box office.

The movie has now successfully completed it’s 50 days theatrical run. According to trade sources, Manyam Puli has raked in an impressive 12 crores from the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

Manyam Puli is the second continuous Telugu blockbuster for Mohanlal. Janatha Garage in which he teamed up with Jr NTR. Janatha Garage was last year’s highest grossing Telugu movie grossing over 100 crores from the box office.

Pulimurugan is an action packed entertainer featuring Mohanlal in the title role as a wild hunter. The movie is written by Udhayakrishna and produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam under the banner Mulakupadam Films.

Megastar Mammootty had earlier voiced his support for the pro Jallikattu protests in Tamil Nadu. He released a video in which he said, “Without depending on any political party, without the support of any leader, without gender, religious and caste and differences without any sort of violence, lakhs of people are protesting in Tamilnadu. This struggle of Tamils is a role model for India.”

However, a section of Malayalis criticised the actor for keeping silent on various issues in Kerala and for supporting the protests happening in Tamil Nadu. Some even went to the extent of calling this as a publicity stunt as his new Tamil movie Peranbu is about to release soon. But Mammootty like always is unfazed by the talks around. The actor has once again supported the movement in Tamil Nadu and compared it with the usual strikes in Kerala. He was of the opinion that Malayalis can never even imagine about such peaceful and united protests.

Mammootty said, “Whenever we protest against any issue in Kerala, half the people will be happily sitting home and criticizing the others. Our protests are mostly centered around damaging KSRTC buses and other properties. In our State, we saw people who even opposed the protests by the fishermen. Jallikattu is not torturing the bulls. Unlike the western countries where animals are brutally killed, Jallikattu is a sport of heroism and gallantry. It is an emotion for Tamil people.”

Mammootty also added that he was amazed by the unity of the people in Tamil Nadu who are protesting without the support of any leaders.

Megastar Mammootty’s most anticipated movie in recent years, The Great Father will release on March 30. The movie was initially slated to related for Christmas, but the makers pushed the release date to January 27 due to the extensive post production works.

However, there was no new release during the Christmas season because of the cinema strike. As a result Christmas releases were given the priority to hit screens first pushing The Great Father’s release further back.

The Great Father is written and directed by debutant Haneef Adeni. August Cinemas, owned by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shaji Natesan, Santhosh Sivan and Arya is producing this movie.

The movie has tremendous hype surrounding it. The expectation levels went high after the release of the first look posters. Each main character had a separate poster.

Mammootty’s stylish bearded look is already a sensation. Kollywood actor Arya is also playing prominent part while Shaam is appearing in a guest role as a police officer. What we saw in Tamil Nadu in the past week for the pro Jallikattu protest was something unprecedented in Indian history. People especially youngsters took to the streets and assembled in large numbers demanding to legalize Jallikattu and the amendment of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

People from the Tamil film industry also joined in the protest. Tamil actors association Nadigar Sangam organised a peaceful protest with stars like Rajinikanth, Ajith, Suriya, Trisha, Sivakarthikeyan etc taking part in the protest held in the Nadigar Sangam grounds. Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Nayanthara joined the protests with the students in Marina Beach, Chennai.

Megastar Mammootty was the first from Malayalam film industry to voice support for the protests. Soon actors like Jayaram, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aju Varghese and Nivin Pauly also supported the pro Jallikattu revolt. Apparently, the Mollywood stars support for the revolt in Tamil Nadu has not gone well with the netizens.

Nivin Pauly’s post in Facebook reads,

Netizens have questioned where these actors were when many such issues happened in our State. They claim that these stars are announcing their support now to strengthen their market in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile some others have supported the stars as they believe that it’s up to the actors wish whether to talk or not about a particular issue.

Take Off tells the story of nurses trapped in Iraq during the war period. The trailer shows glimpses of the demolished surroundings in the war zones, the choppers flying above to rescue the nurses in captivity. The visuals are a never before seen kind in Mollywood.

Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy Menon and Asif Ali play the lead roles in the movie. Parvathy Menon and Kunchako Boban appear as nurses while Fahadh Faasil has played the role of Manoj, an Indian ambassador in the movie.

Mammootty has always been game for trying out characters that requires physical and mental preparation. Some of his unconventional on-screen characters like Putturmuees in Sooryamanasam, Varunni in Murugaya, the docile low caste hero in Ponthan Mada have all been widely appreciated by the audience. The actor is now gearing up for a similar role in Nadirshah’s next movie.

Mammootty will be playing a pint-sized man who is just 4 feet tall in this movie. Scriptwriter of the film Benny P Nayarambalam recently revealed the news in an interview with a national daily. The team will be using a lot of CGI to show Mammootty as the undersized person.

Benny P Nayarambalam has earlier sketched unconventional protagonists in some of his previous movies like Dileep’s Kunjikoonan and Chanthupottu.

Benny P Nayarambalam has earlier worked with Mammootty in movies like Thommanum Makkalum, Pothan Vava, Chattambinadu, Annan Thambi etc. Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus directed by Marthandan, was their last movie together.

This yet to be titled movie will be a rural entertainer with more prominence to humour. The movie will have all the comedy elements that audience would normally expect from a Nadirshah directorial.

Nadirshah debuted as a director through Amar Akbar Anthony in 2015. The movie featuring Prithviraj, Indrajith and Jayasurya in the lead roles was a big blockbuster. His next movie Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan with a relatively new cast is still running successfully in many theatres.
