Dangal beats PK to become the highest grossing Indian movie ever

Aamir Khan’s Dangal continues to create waves registering massive numbers the box office. The movie released on December 23rd opened to unanimously positive reviews from both the audience as well as the critics. Ever since then, the movie has broken several box office records. On Saturday the movie surpassed the collections of Salman Khan’s all time blockbuster Bhajrangi Bhaijaan.

According to latest reports the Aamir Khan starrer has overthrown his own PK at the box office to become the highest grossing Indian movie of all times. The movie has also become the first film to cross Rs 350-crore mark. Previously PK held the top position with collections of Rs 340 crores. In the third weekend after release, Dangal has registered a whopping amount of Rs 31.79 crores, released in 2015.

Dangal directed by Nitesh Tiwari was also dubbed in Tamil and Telugu languages. The movie is based on the true life story of Mahavir Singh Phogat, a wrestler from Haryana who trained his two daughters Geetha Kumari Phogat and Babita Kumari Phogat into world class wrestlers to bring glory for the country.

While Aamir Khan played Mahavir Singh Phogat’s character, Sakshi Tanwar played his wife in the movie. The daughters parts were played by Fatima Sana Sheikh, Suhani Bhatnagar, Zaira Wasim and Sanya Malhotra. The endearing story of a father and his daughters and Nitesh Tiwari’s skillful direction were backed by stunning performances from the lead cast. The massive box office numbers are just a testament for how well the movie has worked with the audience.

Nivin Pauly to star in Geetu Mohandas’ Moothon

Actress turned filmmaker Geetu Mohandas has announced her next project in Mollywood titled as Moothon. The movie will feature young star Nivin Pauly in the lead role. The first look poster was unveiled yesterday and it has been trending in all social media platforms.

The movie has some big names associated with it. Geetu Mohandas’ husband and cinematographer/ filmmaker Rajeev Ravi will handle the camera in this movie. Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is also making his entry to Malayalam film industry by collaborating with Geetu Mohandas in writing the dialogues. Govind Menon will handle the music department for this movie.

Eros International and Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s new production house Colour Yellow Productions will present the movie under the banner Jar Pictures.

Geetu Mohandas’ previous movie Liar’s Dice, release in 2014 was a critically acclaimed one which was screened at several international film festivals. The movie was also India’s official entry at the 87th Academy Awards. It will be exciting to see such an acclaimed filmmaker calling the shots for a commercial actor like Nivin Pauly.

The first look poster released today has Nivin Pauly in a different look with a shaved head and a nose stud. The red toned shady downtown in the backdrop suggests an intense crime thriller on the lines of Gangs of Wasseypur and Kammatipadam.

Nivin Pauly has been consciously trying to move away from his comfort zone of the regular rom-com entertainers. Last year he did Action Hero Biju, a different take from the usual cop stories. He has some exciting projects lined up for 2017 also.

Debutant Althaf’s family entertainer Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela will be his first release this year. He is also shooting for National award winning filmmaker Sidhartha Siva’s political drama Sakhavu in which he is playing a student leader from the left front. He is also awaiting the release of his yet to be titled Tamil movie directed by Gautham Ramachandran. It is the official remake of Kannada superhit movie Ulidavru Kandanthe. Apart from that he has also signed for two other Tamil movies.

We had earlier reported that director Priyadarshan and Mohanlal would be teaming up this year for a big budget movie. According to trustworthy sources, this yet to be titled movie will be an action packed entertainer.

This is the first time the celebrated actor-director duo are joining hands for a action after the blockbuster movie Abhimanyu released way back in 1988. This movie will be made on a big canvas with a budget of 30 crores. This amount is higher than the budget of Mohanlal’s all time blockbuster Pulimurugan.

Actor Maniyanpilla Raju will be producing this big budget movie under his production house Maniyanpilla Raju Productions. The movie will go on floors by this year.

Reportedly, national award winning art director Sabu Cyril who has worked in biggies like Enthiran and Baahubali has been roped for this movie.

Mohanlal-Priyadarshan team’s recent movie Oppam was a blockbuster success which also entered the elite 50 crore club. Currently the movie is in the second position in the list of highest grossing Malayalam movies of all time, only behind Pulimurugan.

So when the two join together, naturally expectations are on the higher side. Female lead for the movie is yet to be finalized. An official announcement with other deatils about the rest of the cast and crew members is expected in the coming days.

Mohanlal, meanwhile will be joining the second schedule of Major Ravi’s upcoming war drama 1971 : Beyond Borders. He has also committed for some other big budget movies with directors B Unnikrishnan, Vysakh and Prithviraj Sukumaran (Lucifer).

Next year, Mohanlal will be acting in the epic drama Randamoozham scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair. Reportedly, it will be made as a multilingual with a whopping budget of 600 crores.

Mohanlal last day made a stunning announcement, the long awaited movie Randamoozham is finally happening. The movie scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair will start rolling next year. Mohanlal said that the script works have been completed and the movie will be made on a whopping budget of 600 crores.

There were many speculations about the movie in the past also. Ace filmmaker Hariharan was supposed to do the project but it could not materialize. The director said, after completing the shoot for Pazhassiraja producer Gokulam Gopalan had asked him to do another project. Hariharan suggested to make a film on MT Vasudevan Nair’s epic novel Randamoozham. The writer was of the opinion that the novel cannot be made into a single movie and that they should plan it as two parts. Gokulam Gopalan could not agree upon this and hence the project could not take off.

Shocking ! Vijay’s Bairavaa story leaked ?

Now, according to reports popular ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon will helm this project. VA Shrikumar Menon is a big shot in the advertising world. He is the managing director and chief creative officer of Push Integrated Communications Pvt Ltd. Mohanlal will play the role of Bheemasenan in Randamoozham which will also feature many prominent stars from other industries. More details regarding the movie is expected in the coming days.

BJP state general secretary AN Radhakrishnan has asked popular film director Kamal to leave the country if he cannot accept the rules here. He also called director Kamal a terrorist for supporting terrorist organizations like SDPI.

BJP activists had earlier staged a protest outside the director’s house during the recent row over the playing of the national anthem in theaters before screenings during the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

Kamal, also the chairman of Kerala State Chalachithra Academy had objected to cops entering theaters to arrest delegates who had not stood up during the anthem. The police action came after the BJP had complained that the Supreme Court order’s on playing national anthem in theaters was not being followed by the organisers. He said Kamal was given the chairmanship of the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a cannibal.

AN Radhakrishnan also asked for removing all the photos of leader Che Guvera in Kerala. He said that Che Guvera has killed many innocent people and that he should not be idolized.

The BJP leader was recently in the news for taking on acclaimed writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair for his comments against the central government’s demonetization move.

Social media is abuzz with posts against Nehru College Pampady where an engineering student Jishnu Pranoy recently committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. The hashtag Justice for Jishnu Pranoy is trending virally with many students and alumni students posting about the various atrocities by the college authorities.

Popular filmmaker Aashiq Abu, also a very active social media user who regularly voices about social menaces, recently updated a screenshot of a photo sent to him by a student from the college. A staff is seen beating a student with a stick in this photo. Students claim that the staff in the picture called as Vattoli, is like a thug who often beats the students. Gross allegations are coming up against the college in various social media forums. Students allege that the faculty members lock up students in hostel rooms and even beat them regularly.

We had earlier reported about the long awaited project Randamoozham finally going on floors next year. Lead actor Mohanlal himself announced about the project in a recent media interaction. The movie planned as a multilingual will be made on a whopping budget of 600 crores. If reports are to believed Randamoozham is the most expensive Indian movie ever.

Currently, superstar Rajinikanth’s 2.0 is the most expensive movie made at a budget of 400 crores. The movie also starring Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar as the antagonist is the sequel to 2010 blockbuster movie Enthiran.
