MS Dhoni Review

MS Dhoni the untold story, is about the real life journey of a small town boy to the the World Cup winning captain of Indian cricket team. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life from the streets of Ranchi to that glorious night of April 2nd in Wankhede where India lifted the World Cup after 28 long years is shown in a very ‘biopic’ manner

Sushant Singh Rajput has put his life and sweat into this movie. The walk, the gait, the coiffure, even the trademark helicopter shot is amazingly enacted. The aura of calmness that we see on Dhoni when he is out in the field is totally absorbed by Sushant and the actor has given a knockout performance. There is rarely a moment of fuss or anxiety in his face. Sushant Singh Rajput is the backbone of the movie and he truly deserves all the accolades that is awaiting him for his performance.

Director Neeraj Pandey has done a remarkable job with his direction. He has already proved his mettle as a filmmaker with movies like Wednesday and Special 26. But making a biopic is not an easy job. There is a risk in doing a biopic on a person who is still in the limelight, but Neeraj Pandey has taken the risk upon him and deserves a pat on the shoulder. He has done a lot of research and more importance has been given to the cricketer’s journey and the struggle he had to undergo.

But the plot is very predictable, the story had great potential to show more about Dhoni as a captain. But sadly we only get a very few scenes like that. The cool headed captain who takes unorthodox decision and takes everyone by surprise were not seen here. The movie is more about his pre-international cricketing days and his struggles throughout the journey.

Earlier when there was a biopic made on Azhar’s life, most scenes looked tacky and amateurishly shot. DOP, Sudheer Palsane has done a great job, particularly the accident scene and the one in the railway station just before the interval. VFX team has also done a commendable job with the recurring morphing scenes. The movie is a bit long but it is worth the time spent because it is difficult to show a journey spanning 15 years in such a short time. One can feel the intensity heating up just before the final shot and Amaal Malik has done a great job with the background music.

True to the name, the movie shows the untold story of the cricketer’s life. Apart from all the cricketing action, the movie shows 2 endearing love stories. The songs were soulful and pleasing to the ears. Another interesting aspect of the movie is it stays away from the usual cliché parts of the politics played in the selection committee. But there are some scenes about the controversial decisions Dhoni has taken as a captain, the makers have clearly underplayed this part. But the movie stays true to the fact that it is a biopic,and no unwanted masala like forced in goosebumps scenes or action block or even lip sync songs. Only very few cinematic liberties have been used here.

Sushant has perfected the art and he fits in superbly for the role. He plays proper cricketing shots and the hard work he has done for the movie has not gone in vain. Anupam Kher, Bhoomika, Kumud Mishra, Rajesh Sharma all other actors who played the friends have done a great job.

All together MS Dhoni the untold story is a watchable movie but you are a fan of Mahendra Singh Dhoni then you are in for many goosebumps moments.

Earlier there were reports that court has stayed the release of Megastar Mammootty starrer Thoppil Joppan. The movie was tangled over a copyrights issue. The court has issued stay on the release of the movie based on the complaint from Shibu Thekkumpuram hailing from Kothamangalam.

Now producer Noushad Alathoor has come out witrh a statement that he has not even seen Shibu Thekkumpuram and was not aware of the complaint he has filed in the court.

The producer insisits that he has only used Nazar’s name only in the title cards and Nazar is in no way related to the movie. Also Noushad Alathoor claims that all the rights for the movie is with him and he is not responsible for Nazar’s financial dealings. He also stresses that the complaint will only be squashed and it will not affect the release of the movie in any manner.

Shibu Thekkumpuram in his complaint has claimed that the producer has sold the copyright to him for an amount of 25 lakhs. But later he has sold the copyrights to some other company before the release without his knowledge. So Shibu Thekkumpuram has filed a complaint and wants the release to be stayed immediately. The complaintant has filed the case against Abdul Nazar from Kalamassery, SN Group from Kadavanthara and Real Media Technologies.

Thoppil Joppan was initially scheduled to be released on October 7th along with Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan. Thoppil Joppan also stars Mamta Mohandas, Andrea Jeremiah, Alencier Ley, Kaviyoor Ponnama, Saju Navodaya and Jude Anthany Joseph in other important roles.

According to latest reports, Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming biggie Remo has collected Rs 32 crores prior to release itslef. Remo is a much expected movie from Sivakarthikeyan. Considering his recent success with movies like Rajini Murugan, Remo is expected to do great business commercially.

Sivakarthikeyan enjoys a strong fan base among the Tamil audience with his typical masala hero image. He is currently one of the very few actors in Kollywood who has fans right from the age group of 6-60. Sivakarthikeyan also has had a fair share of box office successes in Ethir Neechal, Maan Karate, Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam and recently Rajini Murugan.

Remo directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan has Sivakarthikeyan playing a man disguising as a lady nurse. The first look posters had Sivakarthikeyan in the nurse avatar. The trailer of the movie has already clocked 3.7 million views on Youtube. The movie promises to be a enjoyable rom-com flick on the lines of the star’s earlier movies.

Remo also has some big names in the crew, with Academy Award winning Resul Pookutty working together with master cinematographer PC Sreeram. Young sensation Anirudh is joining hands with Sivakarthikeyan for the 4th time and the songs are already chart busters.

Remo has Keerthy Suresh playing the lead lady opposite Sivakarthikeyan for the second time after Rajini Murugan. The movie also stars Sathish, Saranya Ponvannan, Motta Rajendran and director KS Ravikumar in other supporting roles. RD Raja is producing this movie under his banner 24 AM Productions. Remo is releasing on October 7th.

Latest Malayalam movie Adam slated to be released on October 30th has been in the news for sometime now. The Christian community has lashed out against the makers of the movie for hurting their religious sentiments and beliefs. Director Zamar speaks exclusively to Onlookers Media about Adam and the rumours surrounding the movie.

Is Adam, the movie against Christianity? Why is there so many issues prior to the release of the movie ?

There is no such intentional or unintentional negative message against Christianity in our movie. It is the audience who should ultimately decide what message the movie conveys. Nobody can come to a conclusion about a movie on the basis of some stills or some scenes shown in the trailer. Some people are being judgmental and are presuming things without even watching the whole movie . These people are trying to spread negativity about our movie.

Earlier also movies like Aamir Khan’s PK had to undergo problems regarding hurting the religious sentiments of people. What is your opinion on the intolerance towards freedom of expression over an art form like cinema in our country ?

Adam is a movie purely based on a person who lives a Satanic life. The movie does not convey any kind of hatred or negativity towards Christianity. Some people are playing some dirty games just for their publicity and thereby they are ruining the totality of the movie.

Back in those days movies like Nirmalyam where a priest is shown spitting on a deity’s face was received with both hands and even went on to win many awards nationally. But today, do you think the emergence of social media has influenced a lot of religious groups to raise their voice against any such movies ?

A group of people are turning this into a publicity stunt and are making use of others for their benefits. I don’t think that the religious sentiments of a community will get affected if there is a scene of a person standing on a printed book. The values associated with each religion are different, authentic and very genuine and cannot be affected by such issues. There are deeper meanings associated with each concept in a religion. I don’t believe it can simply be broken by such scenes shown in a movie.

Why did you decide to do a movie based on the concept of Antichrist? What was the thought process behind that ?

Most of the people working behind this movie are newcomers. So when we decided to do a movie, we wanted to do something different, fresh and untold in our industry. The reason behind that was for the audience to notice us and turn their heads on a group of newcomers. There was no intention to particularly harm a religion or their beliefs.

 Before starting the shooting you must have did some research about the Antichrist people and their lifestyle. Do you think there is anything positive about them ?

No , I didn’t feel anything positive about them. The properties they use for worshiping and their lifestyle is appalling and despicable. I personally don’t agree with any of their doings and their beliefs. This movie is purely imaginative and a total work of fiction.

Why did censor board recommend so many cuts for this movie?

Adam had about 36 cuts and the officials themselves said that ours is the movie with the most number of cuts in Malayalam cinema history. I believe the main reason is because our movie does not have a big star. Most of the cast and crew who have worked in this movie are newcomers. The censor board even asked us to cut a scene showing the cover of Osho’s book.

During the release of Kathakali the censor board had to undergo staunch criticism. Similarly Kammatipaadam was given an A certificate citing over violence and bloodshed, whereas the movie actually demanded those scenes. . Most movies with violent action sequences, negative scenes and intentional double meaning jokes are releasing without any such issues.

There is no scenes of violence, sexuality or nudity in our movie and yet we were given an A certificate. We were told that Adam was censored with A certificate because our movie conveyed negative message. While certifying our movie, there were no officials present to watch the movie. It was the staff who decided to cut these scenes and they had the final word. Censor Board works in a very selfish manner and they try their maximum to trouble the newcomers.

Mohanlal once again is creating history in Kerala Box office. He is creating and breaking records with his latest release named Oppam. Oppam is racing forward like a war horse and destroying all existing box office records in Kerala one by one.

As we all know, the movie has already made more than 10 records at Kerala box office within 20 days run here in Kerala. It has become the fastest Malayalam movie to surpass figures like 10 crore, 15 crore, 20 crore, 25 crore etc from Kerala alone. Apart from that it has becomes the highest first week grosser from Kerala and has also become the highest grosser of 2016 in just 13 days time.

Now a report is coming in that Oppam had surpassed the lifetime worldwide gross of 32 crore earned by multi-starrer movie Twenty 20. As per reports, Oppam has collected about 28.5 crore from Kerala in just 21 days. The Rest of India market too has contributed handsomely and from Rest of India market, it had grossed above 2.5 crore in 17 days.

It has raked in an amount of above 40 Lakhs from UK and Ireland. In New Zealand also, it has made a great start and trade pundits says that Oppam has already crossed the lifetime worldwide gross of Twenty 20.

From Tamil Nadu, Oppam had grossed around 44 lakhs from 17 days and from Bangalore-Mangalore region, it has grossed around 1.1 crores as well. Rest of India figures and overseas gross is not fully available as of now and we will update it all once it arrives.

Anyway, Oppam is now the 6th biggest grosser in Malayalam Cinema history. Drishyam, Premam, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Two Countries, Amar Akbar Anthony are at the first five spots.

Complete Actor Mohanlal’s much expected Pulimurugan is gearing up for release on October 7th. Pulimurugan has been under production for more than 2 years. It is said to be one of the most expensive movies ever made in Malayalam Cinema history. Pulimurugan is about an emotional action adventure movie about a hunter and his experiences with a tiger.

Complete Actor Mohanlal starrer movie Oppam is now cruising at box office and the film is moving towards the status of the biggest blockbuster of Mollywood steadily. The box office collection report for 21 days is out and the numbers are staggering.

The film has already become the biggest blockbuster of this year. The movie has surpassed the Kerala gross of blockbusters like Twenty20 and Bangalore Days as well. As per the reports from trade guides in our industry, Oppam has earned a figure of around 28.5 crore from its 21 days run in Kerala. The share earned by this movie is now between 12-13 crore as well.

Oppam has successfully completed 8000 shows in 21 day time and it has stepped in to its 4th week without any removal of screens. The film still has around 390 shows per day and it’s phenomenal for a Malayalam Movie. Oppam has collected around 1.5 crore Ernakulam multiplexes alone from its 21 days run and from Ernakulam City alone it has grossed more than 2 crore as of now.

The movie has released in overseas markets like UK, Ireland and New Zealand on September 23 and has made huge impact there as well. From UK and Ireland, reports says that Oppam has raked in an amount of around 40 Lakhs from its first weekend. From New Zealand too the movie has been getting thunderous response. Extra shows are being added in overseas market as well.

Megastar Mammootty starrer Thoppil Joppan awaiting release has entered a legal trouble. The makers have found themselves in a problem over the copyright issues of the movie. Judge Anil Kumar has stayed the release of the movie. Shibu Thekkumpuram hailing from Kothamangalam has filed a complaint before the Honourable court asking to stop the release of the movie.

Shibu Thekkumpuram in his complaint claims that the producer has already sold the copyright of the movie to him for an amount of 25 lakhs. But apparently the producer has sold the copyrights to some other company before the release. So Shibu Thekkumpuram has filed a complaint and wants to stop the release of the movie immediately.

The complaint has been filed against Real Media Technologies, Abdul Nazar from Kalamassery and SN Group from Kadavanthara. Thoppil Joppan’s release is stopped until the next hearing.

Thoppil Joppan was initially scheduled to be released on October 7th. Another biggie, Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan is also releasing on the same date. Industry people and the audience are eagerly awaiting for the clash of the titans of Mollywood after a long time. Pulimurugan will face strong competition from Thoppil Joppan in the box office clash.

Thoppil Joppan hit the right chord among the audience with both the teasers becoming huge successes. Add to that the unconventional marketing strategies the team is doing. Interestingly, Thoppil Joppan team had  a bullock cart ride with the traditional chendamelam which is grabbing all the eyeballs. The makers are making sure that they do not leave any leaf unturned and are trying to publicize their movie to the maximum.

We will have to wait and watch to see whether this copyright issue will affect the release or in turn negatively publicize the movie.
