0

It is a usual thing that the wishes from our Film industry and also from celebrities who are part of various fields in Kerala is coming for the Malayali people during the Onam time which is the most important and prestigious festival of Kerala. Starting from the biggest stars Mohanlal and Mammootty everybody in our film industry also participating in the Onam celebration in different ways. Many of them participating in many channel shows related to Onam and gives their wishes through it and other wishes all through their official Facebook pages and profiles.

But it is quite unusual that wishes from stars of other states and industries coming for Malayalees. And this time that unusual wishes got bigger as well by wishes coming from international arena as well for the malayalees. The first wish from outside Kerala has come from Kollywood Super star Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay. He had posted in his official Facebook page wishing a Happy Onam to all malayalees. He posted that wishes in Malayalam language too. Vijay had huge fan base in Kerala and Kerala is a key market of his films. So for him Kerala has become a second home as well.

Then the one which came from none other than Sachin Tendulkar, The God of Cricket for Indians. He had wished all malayalees a Happy Onam by posting a picture which took a year ago while he had a Kerala style Sadya when he came here with his team Kerala Blasters. Kerala is always a state very close to his heart and he always love to come here and overwhelmed by the support and love he got from this part of the land.

But the most surprising wishes had come from international arena for malayalees. The Onam wishes had come from the two of the biggest international Football clubs. One is Chelsea and other is Liver Pool. While Chelsea wished a happy Onam through their official page in English language, Liverpool surprised more by wishing Onam using Malayalam language on their official social media page. Now Malayalees are celebrating the wishes came from outside by liking and commenting on it expressing their thanks for the great wishes.

Kunjiramayanam Review

In this festive mood of Onam,if your ready enjoy a nice evening with mindless jokes here is a choice for your taste. Debutent director Basil Joseph’s Kunjiramyanam. For those entertainment values Kunjiramayanam would be a favorable bet. But this wont be enough stuff if you are expecting an intense fruitful story line or logics.

Kunjiramayanam is an out and out entertainer which manages to create laughter in the audience with its simple and comical narration and presentation. The acceptence of its presentation is actually subjective too. The place of action of Kunjiramayanam is on a far and remote countryside called Desham. With Biju Menons voice over the film begins its run by introducing the various characters and the mode of pattern of the motion picture. This itself gives the idea of a blank minded people the audience are about to witness. The setting of the actions is having a lot of cartoon characters who are not aware of the outside world and are blank minded.

The story is about Kunjiraman and his companions. Its also about Salsa, which you would get a good look only after watching the movie. The story, in a way is also about marriages. While choosing a comic platform for the motion picture Basil Joseph ha salmost managed to strike the chord at time and fails at parts. That is,the comedies may entertain you at parts and may distract you at times. Not every joke would be everuones cup of tea. The starting and ending portions of the movie can actually be considered as the show saver while in between the director and script writer struggle got get things straight.

As we take in account of the cast, Vineeth Sreenivasan resembled  his father Sreenivasan of late eghtees and nintees. But is in a way ok for the character. So is Dhyan Sreenivasan as a no brain (may be a little) character was at for the role. The rest of the cast including Neeraj Madhav, Deepak, Aju Varghese, Srindha, Sudheer Karamana also did their part decently. The cinematography was acceptable and the musical session also was a different one.

As said before Kunjiramayanam does not belong to the serious class of cinema but an experimental entertainer which almost succeeds. If approached with less expectation this comic drama wont disappoint you big time that is it wont ruin a day.

Double Barrel Review

Double Barrel: A Pellisherian Graphichal Misfire.

Lijo Jose Pellisherry’s latest graphical outing Double Barrel aka Irattakuzhal was one of the most anticipated movies of this year. As for his new vision of craft Lijos gangster (kind of) movie Double Barrel raised the pulse, also for its stellar star cast. But unfortunately Double Barrel which was expected to be a genre defining movie became an experiment went haywire.

Double Barrel revolves around a pair of diamonds Laila & Majnu and the run behind its possession. Prithviraj and Indrajith as Pancho & Vincy plays two foolish goons who also goes behind the diamonds. The story at times resembles the texture of old Priyadarshan movies which got a common aim followed by people of different convictions. Double Barrel through out its run-time feels as a graphical novel which has a lot of gunfights, chases and lavish blend of colours. Even-though novel at its concept it never could satisfy an audience for its unconventional and content-less foul play. Lijo again, in all ways did a brave experiment and need to be appreciated for it. But all experiments are not always success. Thus is Double Barrel.

Technically, the movie is one of the best ever made in Malayalam. The greatest treat in here is Abhinav Ramanujams brilliant visuals which was just an out of the world experience. Each and every shots were done with heap of creativity and sharpness. The bgm and songs were also molded in such a sticky manner to match the motion, which hence can be considered as a success. But where it fails is at its weak script which was bland and pointless which throws the audience to series of yaws.

It has been almost 2 year since Lijo’s last movie Amen released. While Lijo started his career on 2010 with his debut film Nayakan it was far out of the perspectives on majority audience. The same happened for his second venture City of Gods (which actually is his best till date). Amen which was one of its kind in Mollywood became a surprise hit of that year. The biblical come fantasy come magical caricature creation became a new treat for malayalee audience. When it comes to the performance Prithviraj was a great let down while Indrajith manged to tickle. The other characters as all of it was flat mold was OK for the kind of texture.

Double Barrell has its high ends of-course, but as a whole lets you down. IF watched with out any pre tuned mindset, this would be a different experience, but wont be a great one either. The discourse may continue as at the beginning these words appear “If it can be thought or written, it can be filmed: Stanley Kubric”. In that case lets expect more and better from Pellishery.

The film is on its shoot at locations of Thodupuzha and Kochi. Anoop Menon is playing the role of a professor where his new salt and pepper look will add soul to the character, Babu Joseph he plays. The Salt and Pepper style is always a celebrated news among the Mollywood buffs that before this we have seen Mammookka and Lalettan with the Salt and Pepper look in Gangster and Mr. Fraud and Prithviraj in 7th Day. All these new looks were much discussed in the social medias as well as by the public and now on its roll we have Anoop Menon’s new look in Pavada.

The movie Pavada is about the story of a character played by Prithviraj who is a normal person from a place near the city where he comes across an elite person, Babu Joseph played by Anoop Menon. So we can expect a lot of combination scenes where both these amazing actors render their best. The screenplay and dialogue is written by Bipin Chandran and Photography is managed by Pradeep Nair.

Director Marthandan is hoping for a success through this movie that his previous films did not do well at the box office. After so many updates on Facebook about the new looks in movies getting viral this would be another topic of discussion in M Town.

Prithviraj Sukumaran about Double Barrel

0

The Young Superstar of Mollywood Prithviraj Sukumaran has come up with a post in his Facebook page about his Onam release, Double Barrel also known as Eratta Kuzhal. The movie will get released worldwide tomorrow, 28th August – Thiruvonam Day. He has confirmed that this project will truly mark the LJP brand in Mollywood, the director behind this project Shri. Lijo Jose Pellissery, the creative genius. This time Prithviraj being the actor/ producer associated with the film has also confirmed that this message is on behalf of the whole team of Double Barrel where everyone has one thing to say that this movie was truly a roller coaster ride.

The post also revealed that the whole team was working for this project for a long time and they were really stubborn about the fact that even for its release dates they will not compromise the story or anything about the film. So, Double Barrel could be that new wave of cinema making in the film industry with new twist. He has also confirmed that the movie has got its own style and it’s not that the audience expect to be in the film. It is a whole new world of Malayalam cinema where a whole new genre is evolved it’s a genre bender, says Prithviraj. The actor also confirms that the movie has elements like gangsters, dealers, schemers and goons who are behind a hard task of finding a pair of diamonds by their disarmingly endearing stupidity. He also says that they have tried their best to put the best in the movies that they have shown us through its trailer and teasers these days.

This young star has also noted that it was Lijo Jose Pellissery who has been the true soul of this movie, his limitless craziness resulted in the script for this movie. It was also Lijo Jose’s creative ability to think and behave has made this movie a new genre of cinema which has helped talents like him to be in the field, adds Prithviraj. Prithvi also confirms that he being an actor and a part of August Cinema, the production house is not at all concerned about what will happen at the Box Office and will stand along with the conviction Lijo Jose Pellissery, his friend has for this film. Prithviraj also confirms that he is happy about this new age of cinema where people who has the guts to take a new leap in Malayalam Cinema and August Cinema is leading that path of change with the movie, Double Barrel.

Prithviraj continues the post with his request to the audiences that set your mind to experience a whole new story at the theatres setting the goals of realising and comprehending the moment. Double Barrel is not a movie which is under a big corporate banner or have a 200 crore budget beyond that, think about these youngsters who has presented something different for the movie buffs at the theatres. He ends the post by relying on the words of the director Lijo Jose Pellissery, who has already confirmed to not expect anything and take the kid’s mind inside you to watch the movie at the theatres. And if the chances are to be eyed that would be really a wonderful experience, says Prithviraj. Wishing the whole team of Double Barrel success ahead at the Box Office this Onam.

Jamna Pyari Review

Jamna Pyaari is certainly not a much awaited film by Mollywood film lovers but has raised some sort of anticipation among the film lovers with its trailer and songs. Specially the song in Thrissur dialect has entered the hit chart and has received great applause from the viewers. It is the second directorial venture of Thomas Sebastian after the disastrous debut he made with the film named Maya Bazar starred Mammootty which was released 6-7 years ago.

But this time he teamed up with Kunchacko Boban to try his luck again in Mollywood. The screenplay was written by P R Arun for this movie and they have used the Thrissur slang in this film which almost proved as a success factor in Mollywood films. We have seen many films which succeeded using the Thrissur slang creating good effect in movies like Thoovanathumbikal starring Mohanlal, Pranjiyettan and the saint starring Mammootty and Punyalan Agarbathis starring Jayasurya and now it’s the time for Kunchacko Boban to try his luck with the Thrissur slang.

The flick tells the story of Vasoottan played by Kunchacko Boban. Vasoottan is an Auto Driver who is always there to help people with whatever help they need. Once he had to help a family to get 100 Jamna Pyaari, a breed of goat. The family’s future depends on the 100 Jamna Pyaari goats. The film shows Vasoottan and his team’s effort to get that 100 goats and the problems he had to face while he is moving towards his goal.

The film is made as a complete festival entertainer with all elements like comedy, romance, action etc and has come up without boasting about anything. The music scored by Gopi Sundar is not awesome but gelled with the mood of the film. The film has a long string of popular actors such as Aju Varghese, Neeraj Madhav, Joy Mathew, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Renji Panicker along with Kunchacko Boban who as always did a terrific job when the level of performance is concerned. The heroine of the film the new face Gayathri Suresh also excelled with her performance. But Kunchacko Boban was the real highlight of the film with his energetic performance.

But the film is not up to the mark. Neither it is excellent in it’s execution nor a disappointing movie. The lack of depth in the basic plot was the reason for that. It had an above average first half with some good comedy numbers but when it came to the second half, the film began to sink and at last ended in a predictable and not so thrilling climax. Many characters seemed unwanted in the film like the character played by Aju Varghese, Roja etc.

On the whole the film is just a onetime watch for the fans of Kunchacko Boban or for the people who like feel good entertainers.

Director : Thomas Sebastian
Release Date : 27/8/2015
Cast : Kunchacko Boban, Gayathri Suresh, Aju Varghese

Utopiayile Rajavu Review

Today on the auspicious Uthradam day of Malayalees, the much awaited Kamal-Mammootty film named Utopiayile Rajavu has been released in Kerala around 70+ theaters. The film has come carrying a lot of expectations on its back for various reasons. The important factor is that Kamal- Mammootty team has given good films on the previous occasions they collaborated and so when they are coming together again after 8- 9 years, expectations are bound to raise. And another factor is that the trailer and the songs of the film has become a hit among the fans and film lovers when it was released and naturally the expectations has gone high after that.

The film touted as a satirical comedy with fantasy elements in it has Mammootty playing C P Swathanthran and Jewel Mary playing Uma in the lead roles. The story of the film revolves around C P Swathanthran’s effort to win back his property from the one who illegally took it from his father. At the same time, he is making efforts to create a public image of his own. Most of them ends in failure because of his companions. He puts so much effort in his village named Kokrankara. Later he shifts his centre of protest from his village to the Secretariat at Trivandrum and that kicks start the story.

The flick has been an experimental one as the satirical elements are mixed with fantasy elements. Even animals, birds and statues utter dialogues in the flick and in fact they are the narrators of the story. Kamal had done a decent job to hold together the different elements of the film like he always does. The screenplay by P S Rafeeq who made us pleased years ago with the screenplay of Amen has once again come up with a very different attempt. But at some places it had become dramatic and very predictable as well. Ouseppachan’s music joins the soul of the film as he managed to give a rhythm which was travelling along with the narration of the story in a smooth way.

There are many actors in the film including Joy Mathew, Sreekumar, Janardhanan, Indrans, Tini Tom, KPAC Lalitha, Sunil Sukhada, Jayaraj Warrier and if the performance is concerned all these actors had done justice to their characters and special mention has to be given to Sreekumar. Mammookka was at his best as C P Swathanthran and Jewel Mary had done really well with a matured performance.

In the first half, it has many scenes of social criticism in a humorous manner and most of them went quite well with the audience. But many of them feels repetitive as well because we had seen it in many skits in television programs. But the script failed to hold together in the second half and went without any direction. Even the comedy numbers seem mediocre at times. It ended on a feel good note but there was something missing somewhere.

Cast : Mammootty, Jewel Mary, Sreekumar

Mohanlal made me stand astonished says Fahad Fazil

0

The ever expanding list of Mohanlal fans from the film field itself is widening again and again and the new addition to the list is young Mollywood actor Fahad Fazil. As we said earlier that Mohanlal may be the actor with most number of admirers from the film industry itself as he is admired by many actors, technicians and filmmakers all around the country irrespective of which film industry they belong to. When it comes to the question of who is their favourite actor or which is the actor who made them stand wonderstruck with his/her amazing and unbelievable performance, the answer is Mohanlal 99% of the time. From legends like Amitabh Bachchan to youngsters like Sudev Nair, Mohanlal is considered the best.

Fahad Fazil in a recent interview to a popular film magazine said that he is a great admirer of Mohanlal and that Mohanlal is the only actor who made him stand wonder struck with his performance on the screen. Fahad Faasil says that Mohanlal creates a magic in front of the camera and everybody will stand amazed while seeing it. But behind the camera he is as common as any other man and very simple. Only he knows how he creates that sort of magical aura in front of the camera. He is incomparable in his acting skills and no one can match him as well.

Fahad Fazil says that he is the only superstar in Mollywood who looks convincing as a common man on screen and the recent example is Drishyam. Fahad says the example of Nokketha Doorethu Kannum Nattu as well and said that only Mohanlal in Malayalam cinema can convey emotions and make the characters and anything associated with it look real and lively. He says that he became a diehard fan of Mohanlal from the time of the films like Gandhi Nagar 2nd Street.

Fahad also said that all actors who came after Mohanlal in Mollywood had been influenced by the charisma of Mohanlal as they consciously or unconsciously have studied him. He too was influenced by Mohanlal a lot and had tried not to imitate him as no one ever can act like Mohanlal. Fahad says that Mohanlal is a role model for him and he won’t approach acting as honest as Mohanlal does.
