Samantha starrer Yashoda’s teaser is highly intriguing

The teaser of Samantha’s upcoming film ‘Yashoda’ dropped in recently. It is a thrilling and intriguing teaser that gives the geel of a sci-fi thriller. In the teaser, we get to see various chaotic incidents from Yashoda’s life. While the teaser doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it hints that Yashoda’s action-packed life has got something to do with her unborn child. Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is seen as a doctor in the teaser.

‘Yashoda’ is drected by Hari and Harish, who previously made films like ‘Aah’, and ‘Ambuli’. Their new film with Samantha is an ambitious one that has been planned to be released in multiple languages. The cast also includes Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Shatru, Madhurima, Kalpika Ganesh, Divya Sripada, and Priyanka Sharma among others.

‘Yashoda’ is produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad under the banner of Sridevi Movies. Mani Sharma has been assigned as the music composer and cinematography is by M Sukumar.

Asif Ali’s Kotthu release preponed

We had earlier reported about veteran filmmaker Sibi Malayil making a comeback with ‘Kotthu’ starring Asif Ali in the lead. It is their fourth outing together after ‘Apoorvaragam’, ‘Unnam’ and ‘Violin’. ‘Kotthu’, which was slated for release on September 23, has now been preponed to September 16.

The film scripted by Hemanth Kumar promises to be a gripping political drama set in the Malabar region. Asif Ali plays a character named Shanu in it. Roshan Mathew essays another important role. Nikhila Vimal is the female lead. Others in the cast include Ranjith, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna and Vijilesh Karayad.

Prasanth Raveendran is the DOP and songs are composed by Kailas Menon. Jakes Bejoy handles the background score and Rathin Radhakrishnan is editing the film. Filmmaker Ranjith and PM Sasidharan are jointly produce ‘Kotthu’ under the banner Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

As reported earlier Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical Tamil novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is being made as a film with a huge cast and crew involved. It has been adapted as two parts by director Mani Ratnam along with scenarist Jeyamohan. While the first part is set to hit screens on September 30, the second part has been scheduled for release next year. The makers had recently released its trailer, which is high on grandeur, action and some riveting drama.

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ tells the story of early days of Arulmozhi Varman, who later became the Chola emperor, Raja Raja Chola I. Jayam Ravi plays that role. Others in the cast include Vikram, Trisha, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Parthiban, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, The makers of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ introduce new characters by releasing posters regularly. Recently, posters featuring Prakash Raj, Jayachitra, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Sarath Kumar, Babu Antony, Jayachitra, Riyaz Khan, and Ashwin Kakumanu.

Planned as a pan-Indian project, ‘PS 1’ will be releasing in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Hanuman Gear: Fahadh Faasil to star in Villali Veeran director’s next

Fahadh Faasil is teaming up with director Sudheesh Sankar for a new film titled ‘Hanuman Gear’. RB Choudary’s Super Good Films will be backing the film, which is their 96th project. The film is reportedly based on Bino Jose, a Pala-based off road racer whose heroics on the track made him popular among Malayalis. The film’s first look has a lungi-clad Fahadh on top of a jeep. It is reminiscent of Bino’s popular picture from one of his racing endeavours.

The makers of ‘Hanuman Gear’ are apparently planning a realistic entertainer. It will be interesting to see how filmmaker Sudheesh Sankar goes about with it. The director made his debut in 2014 with the Dileep starrer ‘Villali Veeran’.

Fahadh Faasil currently has a promising line up of projects. He will be seen in Tamil in Mari Selvaraj’s ‘Maamannan’ alongside Udhayanidhi Stalin and Keerthy Suresh. In Telugu, he has ‘Pushpa’ sequel ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ coming up. In Malayalam, Fahadh’s slate includes ‘Paachuvum Albhuthavilakkum’ with Akhil Sathyan and ‘Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira’ with Althaf Salim.

Saturday Night trailer promises a crazy ride

The ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ combo of Nivin Pauly and director Rosshan Andrrews are teaming up for a new film titled ‘Saturday Night’. Recently, the makers released its trailer online. It promises a crazy ride with Nivin at his hilarious best. The film stars Nivin, Aju Varghese, Siju Wilson and Saiju Kurup as close buddies who grow apart at a particular point. From the trailer, it looks like the film is centered around their coming together. It has the vibes of ‘Hangover’ franchise.

‘Saturday Night’ is scripted by Naveen Bhaskar of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ fame. According to the makers, it is a beautiful tale of friendship, love, and laughter. The film also stars Saniya Iyappan and Malavika Sreenath of ‘Madhuram’, fame in crucial roles. It has Aslam K Purayil as the cameraman and Jakes Bejoy as the music director. Vinayaka Ajith is producing the film under the banner of Ajith Vinayaka Films.

The release date of ‘Saturday Night’ is expected to be announced soon.

Thallumaala final collections out

The makers of ‘Thallumaala’ have shared the final collection report. According to them, the film has done a total business of Rs 71.36 crore. This includes the box office numbers as well as the rights from satellite, streaming and audio. It is a huge number by any means and is probably Tovino’s biggest hit at the box office.

The film directed by Khalid Rahman is an action-packed entertainer set in the Malabar region. Tovino plays a character named Manavalan Wasim in the film. Kalyani Priyadarshan essays the female lead’s role. Shine Tom Chacko, Lukman, Binu Pappu, Johny Antony, Gokulan and many others are part of the cast.

Hitting screens on August 12, the film opened to excellent word of mouth with the youth audience lapping it up. Despite facing stiff competition from the Kunchacko Boban starrer ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’, ‘Thallumaala’ did extraordinarily well particularly in the Northern Kerala region. The film is now available for streaming on Netflix.

The makers of ‘Christopher’, Mammootty’s upcoming film with director B Unnikrishnan, recently released its first look poster. The poster features the megastar in an intense look. The film, touted to be a thriller, comes with the tagline ‘Biography of a Vigilante Cop’. Udhayakrishna is scripting the film which is said to be based on a real incident.

‘Christopher’ marks Mammootty’s reunion with director B Unnikrishnan after a gap of 12 years. They last worked together in ‘Pramani’. Sneha, the female lead in that film, is also part of ‘Christopher’. Amala Paul and Aishwarya Lekshmi are the other female leads. Tamil actor Vinay Rai is playing the antagonist’s role. ‘Agent Tina’ Vasanthi, Shine Tom Chacko, Dileesh Pothan and Jinu Joseph will be seen in other supporting roles.

B Unnikrishnan’s RD Illuminations LLP is producing the film. Faiz Siddik of ‘Operation Java’ fame is the DOP. Manoj will be editing the film and music is by Justin Varghese.

Suriya 42 directed by Siva to be released in 10 languages

We had earlier reported about Suriya and Siva teaming up for a big-budget film. Tentatively titled ‘Suriya 42’, it is jointly produced by Studio Green and UV Creations. Recently, the makers had released a motion poster which revealed that they are planning a massive period actioner. The film, which reportedly tells the story of a fictional warrior, will be made entirely in 3D format and released in 10 languages. Adi Narayana has scripted the film and it has dialogues penned by Madhan Karky.

Bollywood actress Disha Patani has been signed as the female lead in the film. Vetri Palanisamy, who cranked the camera in Siva’s films, has been retained as the cinematographer. Devi Sri Prasad has been signed as the music director. Art direction is by Milan and action choreography will be handled by Supreme Sundar.

Suriya’s next release will be ‘Vanangan’ directed by Bala. He also has ‘Vaadivaasal’ with Vetrimaaran lined up.

It was National award winner Aparna Balamurali’s birthday last day. The actress celebrated her special day on the sets of ‘Kaapa’. The upcoming multi-starrer directed by Shaji Kailas also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali and Anna Ben. Manju Warrier was initially supposed to play Aparna’s role but she has opted out due to date issues.

‘Kaapa’, based on a Indugopan’s short story, is touted to be an action thriller centered around gangsters in Thiruvananthapuram city. It has Prithviraj playing a gangster named Kotta Madhu. Dileesh Pothan, Nandu and many others are also part of the cast.

Aparna was recently seen in ‘Sundari Gardens’, which released directly on SonyLIV. The film, also starring Neeraj Madhav, is a rom-com directed by debutant Charles Davis. Aparna’s performance in the film was praised by many. The actress also has ‘Ini Utharam’, ‘Mindiyum Paranjum’, ‘Ula’ and the Tamil film ‘Nitham Oru Vaanam’ lined up.

Mammootty’s highly anticipated film ‘Rorschach’ is gearing up for release. The makers had recently released its trailer on the star’s birthday. It is getting extraordinary response in social media with many rating it as one of the best cut trailers in recent times. The 1.34-minute-long trailer has the perfect tone and mood for a thriller. There’s a lot of mystery around Mammootty’s character and his ending dialogue sends chills down the spine. The film directed by Nisam Basheer of ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malaakha’ promises to be a gripping psychological thriller. It is scripted by Sameer Abdul, who has earlier penned the Asif Ali films, ‘Ibilis’ and ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’.

‘Rorschach’ also stars Sharafudheen, Jagadheesh, Grace Antony, Bindu Panicker, Sanju Sivaram, and Kottayam Nazeer in major roles. Asif Ali is also said to be playing a cameo role in the film. On the technical front, the film has Nimish Ravi of ‘Kurup’ fame as the cinematographer. Mithun Mukundan, the music director of the acclaimed Kannada film ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana’, is making his Malayalam debut with this film. Kiran Das is in charge of the edits.

Mammootty’s own production house Mammootty Kampany is producing ‘Rorschach’. The makers are yet to announce the release date officially.
