Puzhu confirmed as direct OTT release

For a while now, there have been speculations about the Mammootty-Parvathy Thriuvoth starrer ‘Puzhu’ eyeing a direct OTT release. The makers have now confirmed that the film will have its premiere on SonyLIV. The OTT platform has become very popular in a very short span by acquiring quality content. ‘Thinkalazcha Nishchayam’, ‘Churuli’ and ‘Bhoothakaalam’ are some of the recently-talked about films that got released on Sony LIV. Dulquer Salmaan’s cop-thriller is also set to premiere on the OTT platform this coming Friday (March 18).

‘Puzhu’ is Mammootty’s first film to have a direct digital release. Directed by debutante Ratheena, the fulm is billed as a domestic thriller in which the veteran actor plays a grey-shaded role. In a statement released, Mammootty said that it’s the story of ‘Puzhu’ that excited him the most. He is quoted saying, “The story of Puzhu exited me the most. As an actor, it has always been my aim to keep reinventing myself, and to take up newer, more exciting projects. Puzhu marks another step in that direction. We tried to tell a story that we believed in and put our hearts into. Hope the viewers like what they see.”

‘Puzhu’ has its story written by Harshad, who previously scripted ‘Unda’, also starring Mammootty. Suhas-Sharfu, who penned ‘Varathan’ and ‘Virus’, are also part of the writing team of ‘Puzhu’. Dulquer is producing the film along with Mammootty’s longtime associate, S George’s Cyn Cyl Celluloid.

Official: Salman Khan to reprise Prithviraj’s role in Lucifer Telugu remake

As reported by us earlier, the bockbuster Malayalam film ‘Lucifer’ is getting remade in Telugu as ‘Godfather’ with megastar Chiranjeevi as the lead. Tamil filmmaker Mohan Raja of ‘Thani Oruvan’ fame is directing the film. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has now joined the cast. It is a cameo role, which is a reprisal of Prithviraj’s role from the original. A photo of Chiranjeevi welcoming Salman to the sets has been shared online.

‘Lucifer’ starring Mohanlal was a political thriller, which turned out to be a record-breaking hit at the box office. Actor Prithviraj made his directorial debut with the film and it was scripted by Murali Gopy. The makers are already working on the pre-production of its second part, ‘Empuraan’.

‘Godfather’ the Telugu version of ‘Lucifer’ is expected to have some changes from the original. Nayanthara is playing the role done by Manju Warrier and Satyadev is reprising Tovino’s role. The film has music scored by Thaman and is bankrolled by NVR Cinema, Megaa Super Good Films and Konidela Productions.

Parvathy to star with Naga Chaitanya in a new web series, Dootha

Parvathy Thiruvoth and Naga Chaitanya have started shooting for a new web series directed by Vikram Kumar. Titled ‘Dootha’, it is touted to be a horror series, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video. Vikram Kumar is known for helming films like ’24’ and ‘Gang Leader’. He last attempted the horror genre with ‘Yavarum Nalam’ aka ’13 B’ (Hindi). The director has also worked with Naga Chaitanya in ‘Manam’ and the upcoming ‘Thank You’.

‘Dootha’ reportedly has Naga Chaitanya in a negative role. The series also stars Tamil actor Priya Bhavani Shankar in a prominent role. One of the busiest actors in Tamil, Priya Bhavani is noted for her roles in films like ‘Meyaadha Maan’, ‘Kadaikutty Singam’, and ‘Monster’.

Last day, the actor took to her social media handle to share a photo taken with Parvathy, Naga Chaitanya and Vikram Kumar on the sets of ‘Dootha’. Along with that, she wrote,

“Fan girl moment with Parvathy. Lots of love admiration and respect for this lady! Grinning like a stupid sheep and my excitement level is literally getting on to Chay and Vikram sir.”

Tamil star Suriya recently visited Kochi as part of promotions for his upcoming film ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’. He was accompanied by his co-star Soori and the film’s director Pandiraj. While addressing the media, Suriya revealed that Malayalam filmmaker Amal Neerad has narrated a script to him and he’s hoping that the project materializes soon.

Few years back, there were reports about Amal Neerad planning to remake Mammootty’s 1989-classic ‘Mrugaya’ in Tamil with Suriya. However, the project never took off. It will be interesting to see if Amal Neerad manages to convince Suriya and gets him to do an action film in his trademark style.

Amal Neerad is currently basking in the glory of ‘Bheeshma Parvam’, that marked with reunion with Mammootty after 15 long years. The film has taken an extraordinary opening at the box office with reports claiming that it has gone past the Rs 50 crore mark in just 5 days of its release.

Few months back, during an interaction session with his social media followers, actor Prithviraj had revealed that he is acting in a big-budget pan-Indian film. Ever since then there have been multiple speculations regarding the project. It has now been confirmed that Prithviraj is starring alongside Prabhas in the upcoming biggie, ‘Salaar’.

Prabhas spilled the beans during a recent press meet in Kochi, where he was promoting his upcoming film ‘Radhe Shyam’. Prabhas confirmed that Prithviraj is acting in ‘Salaar’ and also expressed his happiness that the ‘Kaduva’ actor took up the role.

‘Salaar’ is directed by Prashanth Neel of ‘KGF’ fame. Touted to be a high-octane action film, it also stars Shruthi Haasan and Jagapathi Babu. Shoot for film is currently progressing. Though there are talks about Prithviraj playing a negative role in the film, there is no confirmation regarding the same.

It is worth a mention that Prithviraj is distributing Prashanth Neel’s ‘KGF: Chapter 2′ in Kerala. He is also giving the voice-over for the Malayalam version of Prabhas’ ‘Radhe Shyam’, which is set to hit screens on March 11.

We had earlier reported about Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu teaming up for a new film titled ‘Jana Gana Mana’. It is directed by Dijo Jose Antony, who made his debut with the youthful entertainer ‘Queen’. It has been announced that ‘Jana Gana Mana’ will be hitting screens on April 28, 2022.

‘Jana Gana Mana’ first caught attention when the makers shared a gripping promo video last year. It had Suraj as a cop who interrogates Prithviraj, the convict. The film scripted by Sharis Mohammed promises to be a socio-political thriller.

Sudeep Elamon of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ fame is the cinematographer and music is by Jakes Bejoy. It is produced by Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen under the banners of Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames.

Prithviraj meanwhile is on a break to get himself ready for ‘Aadujeevitham’, which is set to resume in Algeria soon. ‘Kaduva’ directed by Shaji Kailas and ‘Gold’ by Alphonse Puthren are the actor’s other upcoming releases.

Salute to be out on 5 languages; Release date announced

Dulquer Salmaan’s cop film ‘Salute’ is getting a direct OTT release on SonyLIV. It has been announced that the film will be releasing in five languages — Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada — on March 18.

The film produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films was originally supposed to have its theatrical release on January 14. However, it didn’t materialise due to the spike in Covid, Omicron cases during that time.

Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, ‘Salute’ is touted to be a cop-investigative thriller. The film is scripted by Bobby-Sanjay. It has Dulquer playing the role of a police sub-Inspector named Aravind Karunakaran. This is the first time the actor is playing a full fledged police role in his career.

Bollywood actress Diana Penty of ‘Cocktail’ fame plays the female lead. Manoj K Jayan, Saniya Iyappan, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Alencier Ley Lopez, and Binu Pappu are essaying other prominent roles in it. Jakes Bejoy is handling the music department and veteran Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the editing.

Meanwhile, the makers have released its trailer from which we learn that Manju Warrier and Biju Menon play a couple who are at loggerheads. Manju Warrier plays an entrepreneur’s role while Biju Menon’s character owns an event management company. Anu Mohan, Deepti Sati, Reghunath Paleri, Saiju Kurup, Sudheesh, Zarina Wahab and many others are part of the cast.

‘Lalitham Sundaram’ scripted by Pramod Mohan is touted to be a feel-good, family entertainer. Cinematographers P Sukumar, Gautham Sankar, music director Bijibal and editor Lijo Paul form the core technical crew.

Manju Warrier is producing the film along with Central Pictures.
