Kurup touches 75 cr mark; Racing towards the 100 crore club!

Dulquer Salmaan has almost single-handedly revived Malayalam cinema and theatre business in Kerala after the huge losses incurred due to the pandemic. His latest film ‘Kurup’ has crossed the 75 crore mark and is inching closer towards the elite 100 crore club. If it happens, it will be Dulquer’s first film to achieve this remarkable feat. ‘Pulimurugan’, ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ are among the very few Malayalam films to have touched the three-figure mark.

Dulquer, who has also produced the film, has expressed his gratitude by tweeting,

75 Crores and counting. Only gratitude to all our viewers. We went in with prayers and you showered us with love.

Directed by Srinath Rajendran, ‘Kurup’ is a semi-fictious story of the real-life criminal Sukumara Kurup. It has its story written by Jithin K Jose. Screenplay is penned jointly by KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair. Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shine Tom Chacko and Anupama Parameswaran are part of the film’s main cast.

Nivin Pauly’s next is Shekhara Varma Rajavu

Nivin Pauly has announced that he is next teaming up with director Anuraj Manohar of ‘Ishq’ fame. Titled ‘Shekhara Varma Rajavu’, the film is written by S Ranjith. The film was announced with a title poster, which has been shared by stars like Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Tovino Thomas. Nivin’s own production house Pauly Jr Pictures is backing the film. More details regarding the project are expected to be announced soon.

Nivin Pauly also has a few other projects lined up. His highly anticipated ‘Thuramukham’ is ready for release, but the makers are yet to announce the exact date. He has already finished shooting for tbe Abrid Shine directorial ‘Mahaveeryar’, which also stars Asif Ali.

Nivin is currently working on an untitled Tamil film helmed by ‘Peranbu’ director Ram. He also has a few more portions left to be shot for ‘Padavettu’. ‘Gangster of Mundanmala’ and ‘Bismi Special’ are his other announced projects.

Here’s a new teaser of Marakkar: Arabikadlinte Simham

With ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ set to storm screens on December 2, the makers have been releasing short promo teasers in the last couple of days. A new one has dropped in today and along with that it has been announced that the trailer will be out on November 30.

The Priyadarshan directorial is an action-epic made on a huge scale. Superstar Mohanlal plays the titular role of Kunjali Marakkar IV and the cast also includes several well-known actors from various languages. Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Pranav Mohanlal, Keerthy Suresh, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Siddique, Prabhu, Baburaj, Mukesh, and Ashok Selvan will be seen in prominent roles.

Touted to be the most expensive Malayalam film ever, ‘Marakkar’ is set for a simultaneous release in multiple languages. Going by the tremendous hype, it is expected to be released in a record number of screens for a Malayalam film.

Watch: Ajagajantharam trailer is action-packed

The trailer of ‘Ajajagantharam’ has been released online. The 2-minute long video is packed with loads of action, bloodshed and thrills. Tinu Pappachan of ‘Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil’ fame is directing the film. Just like his debut film, ‘Ajajagantharam’ also promises to be a stylishly shot mass entertainer with an action mood in it.

‘Ajagajanthram’, scripted by Vineeth Viswam and Kichu Tellus, is set in the backdrop of a temple festival Antony Varghese plays the lead role of a mahout. Arjun Ashokan essays the prime antagonist’s role. Lukman, Kichu Tellus, Sabumon, Jaffer Idukki, Rajesh Sharma, Tito Wilson, Vijilesh and Vineeth Viswam will be seen essaying other major roles.

The film has Jinto George as the cinematographer, Justin Varghese as the music director and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. Emmanuel Joseph and Ajith Thalapilly are jointly producing it under the banner of Silver Bay Studios.

After multiple delays caused due to the pandemic, the film is finally scheduled for theatrical release on December 23.

Muddy: India’s first film based on mud race to hit screens on December 10

‘Muddy’ directed by Dr Pragabhal is touted to be India’s first film based on off-road mud racing (4*4). The film planned as a multilingual is all set to hit screens worldwide on December 10.

As per the makers, ‘Muddy’ is a thrilling-adventurous film that will offer the movie-goers a new cinematic experience. The makers had earlier released a teaser with
brilliant cuts, adrenaline-pumping background score and thrilling visuals of the racing.

The film stars newcomers Ridhaan Krishna and Yuvan in the lead roles. Anusha Suresh, Amit Sivadas Nair, Harish Peradi, I M Vijayan, Renji Panicker, Manoj Guinness, Sunil Sukhada, Shobha Mohan and many others are part of the supporting cast.

‘Muddy’ has its story written by director Pragabhal himself. He has penned the screenplay along with Mahesh Chandran and Sreenath Nair. On the technical front, it has music scored by ‘KGF’ composer Ravi Basur and edits done by San Lokesh of ‘Ratsasan’ fame. KG Ratheesh is the cinematographer.

Lyricist Bichu Thirumala passes away

Veteran Malayalam lyricist Bichu Thirumala, passed away on Friday (November 26). The 80-year-old was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram with breathing problems and had suffered a heart attack as well. He had been on ventilator support after his condition worsened, and passed away around 3.15 am.

Bichu Thirumala started his lyric-writing career with the 1972 film, Bhaja Govindam. He has since penned lyrics for over 5,000 songs. The two-time Kerala State Film Award winner has collaborated with several big music directors from the Malayalam film industry. He has also also worked with legends from other industries like AR Rahman, MS Viswanathan, and Ilaiyaraaja.

Bichu Thirumala is survived by his wife Prasanna and son Suman Bichu, who is also a music director. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and many others from Kerala’s cinema and socio-political sphere have condoled his death.

It’s a wrap for Pathonpathaam Noottandu

Director Vinayan’s highly ambitious period film ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ has been wrapped up. The makers informed the same by sharing a location still from the last day’s shoot.

‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ is big-budget period film set in the 19th century. Siju Wilson plays the lead role of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, an Ezhava chieftain who lived in the 19th century. The film is primarily about the lesser-known story of Panicker, who was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement.

The film also has a huge ensemble of supporting actors. Chemban Vinod plays the role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Kayadu Lohar, Anoop Menon, Deepti Sati, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Sudev Nair, Jaffer Idukki, Senthil Krishna, Bibin George, Biju Pappan, Indrans, Poonam Bajwa, ‘Joseph’ fame Madhuri Braganza and many others are part of the cast.

Gokulam Gopalan is producing this big-budget film. Recently, director Vinayan had announced that the film will be hitting screens on April 14, 2022.

Watch: Shahid Kapoor knocks it out in Jersey trailer!

We had earlier reported about the National-award winning Telugu film ‘Jersey’ getting remade in Hindi. Starring Shahid Kapoor as the lead, the Hindi version is directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, who helmed the original as well. Last day, the film’s trailer got released and it looks like a faithful remake. Shahid Kapoor seems to have lived up to the role, which was performed brilliantly by Nani in Telugu.

‘Jersey’ tells an inspiring story of a middle-aged family man making his return to cricket. Mrunal Thakur reprises the female lead’s role, played originally by Shraddha Srinath. Shahid’s father Pankaj Kapur also essays a prominent role.

Allu Aravind, Aman Gill, Dil Raju, and S Naga Vamsi are producing the film, which is scheduled to hit screens on December 31, 2021. Anil Mehta is cranking the camera. Sachet and Parampara are composing the songs while Anirudh Ravichander makes his Hindi debut by handling the background score.

Final theatre mix done; Hridayam gears up for release

Vineeth Sreenivasan directorial ‘Hridayam’ is gearing up for release in January. The makers have completed all the post-production works and are now waiting for release. Last day, Vineeth took to his Facebook page to announce that the film’s theatre mix has been finished. He also thanked all the technicians who worked with him in the film.

Vineeth has written,

Yesterday we finished the Final theatre Mix of Hridayam!!! What a spectacular journey this has been.. Thanks to all the technicians who worked for this film. It has been a great learning experience working with every one of them.. And we really can’t wait to bring our Hridayam to you guys..

‘Hridayam’ stars Pranav Mohanlal, Darshana Rajendran and Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leads. The film promises to be a youthful entertainer with most of its portions sent in a campus. Vineeth has taken real-life inspirations to script this film, which tracks the life journey of a few individuals from their college days.

‘Hridayam’ has music by Hesham Abdul Wahab and cinematography by Viswajith Odukkathil. Edits are handled by Ranjan Abraham. The film is jointly produced jointly by Merryland Productions and Big Bang Entertainments.

Kurup making video grabs attention

Dulquer Salmaan’s latest release ‘Kurup’ continues to do excellent business at the box office. After taking the highest opening for a Malayalam film worldwide, it is still having a phenomenal run in most areas, including overseas centres.

Recently, a 37-minute long making video got released. It details the immense efforts that went behind the making of the film. After Dulquer Salmaan, the most attractive thing about ‘Kurup’ is its rich production values. Nimish Ravi’s excellent cinematography and National-award winner Banglan’s meticulously done production design make sure that a forgotten era is recreated marvellously in the film. It is a sight not so common in Malayalam cinema.
