Simbu’s Maanaadu trailer is highly intriguing

The trailer of Simbu’s much-awaited film ‘Maanaadu’ dropped in last day. It is a highly intriguing trailer that has a fascinating time-loop concept in it. From the trailer, we presume that Simbu’s character gets struck in a loop as the events of a single day keep repeating itself for him. He is framed in the murder of the State Chief Minister, played by SA Chandrasekhar. SJ Suryah plays a police officer who tries solve the mystery.

‘Maanaadu’ is written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. Kalyani Priyadrashan essays the female lead’s part. Bharathiraja, his son Manoj Bharathi, Karunakaran and Premji Amaren will be seen essaying important roles. Richard M Nathan is the cinematographer and Praveen KL handles the edits. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for the film.

‘Maanaadu’ is planned as a pan-Indian film that will be out in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The film has been confirmed to hit screens for Diwali.

First video song from Hridayam on its way!

Vineeth Sreenivasan has announced that the first video song from his upcoming directorial ‘Hridayam’ will be out on October 25, the day when theatres will be reopening in Kerala. The makers chose this date as they believe that cinema is an art form that deserves to be celebrated in theatres. With this, they have reconfirmed that ‘Hridayam’ will only be releasing in theatres.

The film stars Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran as the leads. Scripted by Vineeth himself, the film promises to be a youthful entertainer. He has taken real-life inspirations to script this film, which tracks the life journey of a few individuals. Major portions of the film have been shot in the same engineering college in which Vineeth and his wife Divya studied.

Aju Varghese, Vijayaraghavan, Arun Kurian and several newcomers are also part of the cast. The film is jointly produced jointly by Merryland Productions and Big Bang Entertainments.

Official: RRR release date announced

Putting an end to all the speculations, the makers of ‘RRR’ have announced the film’s release date. The SS Rajamouli directorial will be hitting screens worldwide on January 7, 2022. The pan-Indian project will be releasing in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.

‘RRR’ stars Telugu actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR as the leads. The film promises to be an action-packed epic. Made on a mammoth budget, it is about two freedom fighters, Alluri Sita Ramaraju and Komaram Bheem who fought against the British Raj and the Nizam of Hyderabad, respectively. Ram Charan plays the role of Alluri Sita Ramaraju, while Jr NTR will be seen essaying the part of Komaram Bheem.

Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn also essaying crucial roles. Others in the cast include Shriya Saran, Olivia Morris, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Samuthirakani.

This biggie is being produced by DVV Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainment.

Mallika Sukumaran to play Prithviraj’s mother in Alphonse Puthren’s Gold

Alphonse Puthren is currently directing ‘Gold’ with Prithviraj as the lead. The actor’s mother Mallika Sukumaran is also playing an important role as his reel-life mom. Interestingly, this is the first time the two are acting as a mother-son duo.

Mallika Sukumaran is also part of Prithviraj’s upcoming directorial ‘Bro Daddy’. She plays the role ofbMohanlal’s mother in it, while Prithviraj essays her grandson’s part. Shoot for the film has already been completed and it is currently in the post-production stage.

Meanwhile, ‘Gold’ shoot is still progressing. Nayanthara plays the female lead in it. Vinay Forrt, Thensi Khan, Baburaj and many others are part of the cast. The film is jointly produced by Supriya Menon under the banner of Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen of Magic Frames.

‘Gold’ marks Alphonse’s return to direction after seven years. His last film ‘Premam’ was a sensational blockbuster that made waves across the South. Expectations are on the higher side for his comeback film ‘Gold’ as well. However, the makers are yet to reveal any details regarding its plot or genre.

Vicky Kaushal impresses as Sardar Udham Singh; Watch trailer here!

Vicky Kaushal is teaming up with ‘October’ director Shoojit Sircar for the biopic of Sardar Udham Singh, an early 20th century revolutionary who was active in the Indian independence movement. The film’s trailer got released last day and it looks highly promising. Vicky Kaushal seems to have delivered a measured and intense performance.

Set in the pre-Independence era, the film follows Udham Singh, who was best known for his assassination of Michael O’ Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of the Punjab in India. The assassination was in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder and hanged.

‘Sardar Udham Singh’ is co-written by Ritesh Shah of ‘Pink’ fame and Shubendu Bhattacharya of ‘Madras Cafe’ fame. Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Banita Sandhu and Kirsty Averton also star in it. Avik Mukhopadhyay is the cinematographer and music is by Shantanu Moitra.

The film is set to have its world premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 16.

Mohanlal-Priyadarshan segment in Netflix anthology titled Olavum Theeravum

We had earlier reported about Netflix planning a 10-part film series, which will all be based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. Filmmakers like Santosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad and Jayaraj are directing a segment each in it.

Priyadarshan will be directing two segments, shoot for one of which starring Biju Menon has already begun in Pattambi. The other one will star Mohanlal in it. As per reports, it is based on ‘Olavum Theeravum’, the 1970-classic directed by PN Menon. MT Vasudevan Nair scripted the film based on his own story of the same title, published in an anthology of short stories in 1957.

Priyadarshan will be retelling the story in his own style. Mohanlal will be playing the lead role of Bapputty, which was essayed by Madhu in the the orginal film. More details regarding the project are awaited.

The Netflix anthology is produced by News Value Productions Pvt Ltd headed by MT’s daughter Aswathy V Nair and Sudheer Ambalappad. A proper formal announcement regarding the directors and team members is expected to be made soon.

Mohanlal-Prithviraj film Bro Daddy to release on Disney + Hotstar?

Since there is still no confirmation regarding theatres reopening in Kerala, filmmakers continue to be in talks with OTT platforms to release their content. Amazon Prime and Netflix are the two biggest players as of now. Sony Liv recently entered the market with ‘Kaanekaane’, their first Malayalam direct release.

Latest buzz is that Disney + Hotstar is also keen to make their presence felt. Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai has tweeted that the OTT giant is trying to get ‘Bro Daddy’ as their first major release from Malayalam. The film headlined by the ‘Lucifer’ combo Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran has tremendous expectations among the Malayali audience. Apparently, talks have already been initiated and an official word is awaited anytime soon.

‘Bro Daddy’ directed by Prithviraj is being made as a fun-filled family entertainer. Mohanlal and Prithviraj reportedly play a father-son duo in it. Others in the cast include Meena, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Murali Gopy, Kaniha, Unni Mukundan, Mallika Sukumaran, Soubin Shahir and Lalu Alex. Antony Perumbavoor is producing it under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Aranmanai 3 trailer: Sundar C’s horror-comedy series continues

The trailer of upcoming Tamil horror-comedy ‘Aranmanai 3’ has been released. For those who have watched the first two parts of the series, the third one must also be familiar with all its over-the-top horror elements, comedy, dance and music. The trailer has everything of the above mentioned and gives a clear idea of what to expect in it.

Sundar C, who helmed the first two installments, is directing the third part as well. He has penned the screenplay along with Venkatt Ragavan. Badri has written the dialogues. The film stars Arya, Raashi Khanna, Andrea Jeremiah, Sundar C, Sakshi Agarwall, Vivek, Yogi Babu, Manobala, Vela Ramamoorthy, Madhu Soodhan Rao, Vincent Ashokan, Vichu Viswanath and Baby Ovi Bhandarkar.

On the technical front, music is by Sathya C and camera is handled by UK Senthil Kumar. Fenny Oliver is the editor. Avni Cinemax and Benzz Media are producing the film. It is presented by Red Giant Movies.

Nivin Pauly’s Padavettu taken over by a leading production house!

Nivin Pauly’s ‘Padavettu’ has been in the making for well over a year. Directed by debutant Liju Krishna, the film marks actor Sunny Wayne’s debut as a producer. Recently, we learnt that the production has now been taken over by Saregama, a leading music label owned by the RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group of companies. Their film division Yoodlee Films is foraying into Malayalam film industry with ‘Padavettu’. More details regarding the same are awaited.

‘Padavettu’ is said to be a rustic entertainer set in Kannur. Nivin Pauly will be seen playing a very challenging character and will be appearing in two different looks. He had gained some extra kilos for the character and those portions have already been shot. The remaining portions are expected to be shot once his sheds weight and transforms himself.

‘Padavettu’ also stars Manju Warrier in a cameo role. Aditi Balan and Shine Tom Chacko are also part of the film.

Aadhivaasi: Sarath Appani to star in film based on 2018 lynching of Attapadi tribal youth Madhu

Sarath Appani will be seen playing the lead role in ‘Aadhivaasi’ (The Black Death), a film based on the 2018 lynching of a Attapadi tribal youth named Madhu. Directed by Vijeesh Mani, the film will be shot in the Muduga language spoken by the Muduga tribal community in Attapadi.

In February 2018, Madhu was beaten to death by a group of people after accusing him accused of stealing rice and groceries. The incident was widely condemned and widespread protests were staged during that time.

For playing Madhu’s role, Sarath has been learning the language for the past six months. The film’s dialogues are penned by Thangaraj M and the lyrics are written by Chandran Mari.

Vijeesh Mani is known for making tribal language films, ‘Mmmmm’ (Kurumba) and ‘Netaji’ (Irula). ‘Aadhivaasi’ marks his reunion with producer Sohan Roy. His Aries Group of Companies is backing the film, which is set to go on floors on October 10 in Attapadi.
