Nadiya Moidu to replace Gautami in Papanasam 2 ?

There are reports about Kamal Haasan planning to remake ‘Drishyam 2’ in Tamil. It must be remembered that he had starred in the remake of ‘Drishyam’ first part as well. Titled as ‘Papanasam’, it was directed by Jeethu Joseph. Gautami played the role of Kamal’s wife in it. The two actors were in a live-in relationship during that time. However, they chose to part ways an year after the film’s release. Since they are no longer together and don’t have cordial relations, it is learnt that Gautami won’t be a part of ‘Papanasam 2’.

Earlier there were reports about Meena replacing Gautami in the second part. But latest buzz is that Nadiya Moidu is in talks to play the female lead. Kamal, who has shared screen space with almost all the 80s and 90s actresses in South, has still not worked with Nadiya. This is said to be the reason why she has been approached for ‘Papanasam 2’. An official confirmation regarding her casting is awaited.

It is worth a mention that Nadiya Moidu is also part of the Telugu remake of ‘Drishyam 2’. She is reprising Asha Sarath’s IG character from the orginal.

Drushyam 2 also set for direct OTT release?

Due to the second wave of pandemic, theatres across the country remain shut. With a threat of third wave looming in large, there is still no confirmation regarding when things return back to normalcy. In Telugu industry, several big films are already planning for direct OTT releases.

Tollywood star Venkatesh Daggubati’s two upcoming films ‘Narappa’ and ‘Drushyam 2’ are most likely to be released on OTT platforms. As per reports, both the films have together fetched a Rs 70 crore deal. It is also being said that Rana Daggubati’s ‘Virata Parvam’ makers are also planning to release the film straight on OTT. All the three films are produced by Suresh Productions.

‘Drushyam 2’ directed by Jeethu Joseph has Venkatesh, Meena, Nadiya Moidu and Sampath essaying the main roles. It must be noted that the original version starring superstar Mohanlal also failed to get a theatrical release. It was out directly on Amazon Prime Video.

‘Narappa’ is the official Telugu remake of blockbuster Tamil film ‘Asuran’. It is directed by Srikanth Addala. Venkatesh and Priya Mani play the major roles. Suresh Productions is producing the film along with Kalaippuli S Thanu’s V Creations. Reports suggest that the film might release on Amazon Prime Video on July 24. An official confirmation is awaited in this regard.

‘Virata Parvam’ is a period drama directed by Venu Udugula. The film stars Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi, Priyamani, Nandita Das, Naveen Chandra, Zarina Wahab and Easwari Rao.

Vaan: Ashok Selvan replaces Dulquer Salmaan in this new Tamil film!

Recently, we had reported about Ashok Selvan starring in a new film to be directed by debutant R Karthik. Ritu Varma, Aparna Balamurali and Shivathmika will be seen as the female leads in it. Viacom 18 Studios is producing the film in association with Rise East Creations.

It is learnt that this is the same project which was first announced in 2017 with Dulquer Salmaan. Titled as ‘Vaan’, it was then planned as a feel-good entertainer that has love, travel, emotions and every aspect of a light-hearted film. Selva Kumar J was supposed to produce the film under the banner of Kenanya Films. George C Williams, Sreekar Prasad and debutant Dheena Dayalan were signed as the film’s cinematographer, editor and music director, respectively.

‘Vaan’ got launched in December 2018, with a ceremony held in Chennai attended by Dulquer and crew members. At the event, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Kriti Kharbanda were announced as two of the lead actresses. Priya Bhavani Shankar also joined the cast later. However, the financial problems of Kenanya Films and the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the film to be continually delayed and eventually dropped.

After almost a year, Karthik’s directorial debut has now been relaunched with a new team. Viacom18 Studios is producing the film in association with Rise East Entertainment. Editor Anthony and music director Gopi Sundar have joined the project by replacing Dheena Dayalan and Sreekar Prasad. Cinematographer George C Williams, noted for his works in ‘Raja Rani’, ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ and ‘Kaithi’, has been retained.

Malik set to premiere in Amazon Prime Video; Release date announced

Fahadh Faasil’s highly-anticipated film ‘Malik’ is coming directly on Amazon Prime Video. It has been announced that the film will be premiering in the OTT platform on July 15. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, ‘Malik’ has been under the wraps for well over a year now. The film was originally planned for a grand theatrical release in mid-2020 but due to the pandemic, it got delayed multiple times. Though the makers were hopeful of a getting big screen release in May this year, the second wave of pandemic spoilt their plans. Producer Anto Joseph had to resort to a direct OTT release due to heavy financial burden. The announcement disappointment most cinephiles.

‘Malik’ is a big-budget semi-period film that spans multiple timelines. Fahadh Faasil plays the leader of a coastal community in it. Vinay Forrt, Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Joju George, Dinesh Prabhakar, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja and Maala Parvathi will be seen in supporting roles.

Ottakomban makers release new location video

Recently, on the occasion of Suresh Gopi’s birthday, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Ottakomban’ released a special video, which features shots from the photoshoot making. Most of the main cast and crew members also appear in the video wishing the superstar on his special day.

‘Ottakomban’ directed by debutant Mathews Thomas promises to a high voltage mass entertainer. It is scripted by Shibin Francis, who has earlier penned films like ‘Underworld’, ‘CIA’ and ‘Pavada’. Biju Menon, Vijayaraghavan, Anant Mahadevan, Johny Antony and many other popular actors are part of the supporting cast.

On the technical front, cinematography is by Shaji Kumar and music department is being handled by Harshvardhan Rameshwar of ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame. Stunts will be choreographed by Supreme Sundar and Ram-Lakshman duo.

Tomichan Mulakuppadam is producing ‘Ottakomban’ under the banner of Mulakuppadam Films. It is said to be one of the biggest projects in Suresh Gopi’s career. The makers are planning to shoot as soon as the Covid situation gets better.

The trailer of Farhan Akhtar’s eagerly awaited boxing film ‘Toofan’ has been released online. The film is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra of ‘Rang De Basanti’ fame. It is his second outing with Farhan after the superhit ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’.

‘Toofan’ follows the life of Aziz Ali aka Ajju bhai, a goon who transforms into a boxer with the help of his coach and girlfriend. Mrunal Thakur is paired with Farhan in the film and Paresh Rawal essays the coach’s role. Others in the cast include Supriya Pathak Kapur, Hussain Dalal, Mohan Agashe and Darshan Kumaar.

‘Toofan’ is scripted by Anjum Rajabali with additional screenplay and dialogues by Vijay Maurya. Shankar Ehsaan Loy handle the music department. Meghna Manchanda Sen is the editor and cinematography is by Jay Oza. Ritesh Sidhwani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar are jointly producing the film. It is scheduled to have its world premiere in Amazon Prime Video on July 16, 2021

Asif Ali starrer ‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’ has finally got a release date. The makers have announced that it will be hitting screens on September 17. They earlier announced June 4 as the release date, but
due to the pandemic second wave it had to be postponed.

‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’ is a political satire directed by Jibu Jacob of ‘Vellimoonga’ fame. It is scripted by Sharis Muhammed. The film has Asif Ali as a youth activist of the left-wing party. Rajisha Vijayan is the female lead. It is their second film together after the superhit ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’

The supporting cast of ‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’ includes Sudheer Karamana, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Sethulakshmi among others. The film has Sreejith Nair cranking the camera. Music department is being handled by veteran Ouseppachan and Sooraj ES will be editing the film. It is jointly produced by Thomas Thiruvalla and Dr Paul Varghese under the banner of Dr Paul’s Entertainment.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s new film ‘Vikram’ starring Kamal Haasan is expected to go on floors as soon as the Covid situation gets better. The makers meanwhile are finalizing the cast and crew. Narain, who has earlier worked with Lokesh in ‘Kaithi’, has joined the cast of ‘Vikram’. He will be seen playing a prominent role in it. The film already has another Malayali actor in Fahadh Faasil. Vijay Sethupathi, ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame Antony Varghese, Arjun Das are also rumoured to be part of the film but their casting is yet to be confirmed.

‘Vikram’ is a highly anticipated film as Kamal Haasan is doing a proper mass flick after a very long time. The fact that director Lokesh’s last film ‘Master’ was a huge blockbuster and the big names in the cast has only enhanced the expectations. On the technical front, National award-winning cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, music director Anirudh Ravichander and action choreographers AnbAriv are already on board.

Director Vinayan’s ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ is currently in the editing stage. The team still has to shoot the climax portions but they are waiting for the Covid-induced restrictions to be lifted. In a recent Facebook post, the director confirmed that the film has designed for a big screen experience and it will only be released in theatres no matter how long it takes. He also added that filmmakers should not forget that it is the reception in theaters that play a big role in attaining stardom and popularity.

‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ is an epic-period film set in the 19th century. Siju Wilson plays the lead role of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, a brave Ezhava chieftain who lived in the 19th century. The film tells the untold story of Panicker, who was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement.

Along with him, the film has a huge ensemble of actors. Chemban Vinod will be seen playing the role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Kayadu Lohar, Anoop Menon, Deepti Sati, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Sudev Nair, Sreejith Ravi, Jaffer Idukki, Senthil Krishna, Bibin George, Indrans, Poonam Bajwa, Madhuri Braganza and many others are part of the supporting cast.

Gokulam Gopalan is producing this big-budget film.

Young Telugu actor Akhil Akkineni’s new film ‘Agent’ is set to have a major addition in the cast. Malayalam superstar Mammootty has been approached to play the villain role in the film. Initially, the makers had considered the likes of Mohanlal and Kannada star Upendra for the role, but things didn’t work out.

‘Agent’ is an espionage thriller planned to be made on a big scale. Surender Reddy of ‘Race Gurram’ fame is directing the film and it is scripted by Vakkantham Vamsi. Akhil will be seen playing the role of a spy agent in the fim. The antagonist character will have equal importance and their confrontation scenes will be one of the film’s biggest highlights. It is learnt that the makers have already begun talks with Mammootty but he is yet to give his word.

The megastar’s last Telugu release was ‘Yatra’, a biographical film in which he played the role of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy.
