Suriya pens an emotional note remembering KV Anand

Suriya pens an emotional note remembering KV Anand

The unfortunate demise of director-cinematographer KV Anand has shocked many in the South Indian film industry. Actor Suriya, who was very close to the late director, took to his Twitter handle to share an emotional note. KV Anand was the cinematographer in Suriya’s debut film ‘Nerukku Ner’. They also worked together in ‘Ayan’ and ‘Kaappaan’.

Along with the note, Suriya also shared two photos — one taken by KV Anand during the test shoot of ‘Nerukku Ner’ and the other during the filming of ‘Kaappaan’, the director’s last film. In his note, Suriya has written,

“KV Anand Sir.. the fact that you are no more shocks and pains my heart. In the grief of your unacceptable death, unforgettable memories overwhelm me like waves.

It is through the photograph you took, the miracle of Saravanan becoming Suriya happened. I’m still awed by the efforts you put in for two hours to capture a new face at a right angle. That 2-hour long photoshoot at the Madras Talkies office made me feel that I was on a war front. The ‘Russian Angle’ shot you took featuring me for ‘Nerukku Ner’ was the one main reason for director Vasanth, producer Mani Ratnam and others to put their trust on me. You also made me appear 10,000 times better than the photograph on the big screen.

I cannot ever forget your part and guidance in my journey in the film industry. The words you shared with love and care on things I should change to grow continue to guide me.

As a filmmaker, the hard work you put in for ‘Ayan’ energized me while I was waiting for a big blockbuster. I still thankfully think about how the film’s success turned me into everyone’s favourite star.

It is nature’s justice that you were part of my first film and I was part of your final film. You will continue to live in our memories, sir. Heartfelt thanks and tributes.”

Thuramukham makers release new poster on International Labour Day

‘Thuramukham’ directed by Rajeev Ravi is based on the historic protests against the inhuman ‘chappa’ system, that existed during the 1940s wherein copper coins were thrown at waiting workers in a primitive work guarantee scheme, which had resulted in police firing and killing of three workers in Mattancherry. Since the film is about the struggles of labourers, it is only fitting that the makers chose this to release a new poster.

‘Thuramukham’ is a much-anticipated film by cinephiles. It was supposed to hit screens last year itself but due to the pandemic, the release got planned. Recently, the makers had announced May 13 as the release date but even that seems highly unlikely due to the Covid-19 second wave.

Sukumar Thekkeppat of Mini Studio is producing the film.

‘Salaar’ is planned as a pan-Indian film that is being made on a huge canvas. On the technical front, director Prashanth Neel has retained almost the same team from ‘KGF’. Ravi Basrur is composing the music while Bhuvan Gowda is the cinematographer. Hombale Films is producing the film, which is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on April 14, 2022.
