Tamil actor Vivek passes away

Tamil film actor Vivek passed away in a private hospital in Chennai in the early hours of Saturday. On Friday morning, the 59-year-old was brought to SIMS Hospital in an unconscious condition by his wife and daughter after he complained of discomfort. He then underwent an angioplasty and stenting procedure for a complete block in a critical blood vessel of the heart. He was put on an ECMO support in the intensive care unit.

Vivek had taken the Covid-19 vaccine on Thursday. He was also declared as the State’s ambassador for creating public health messages. He took the Covaxin in Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in Chennai and urged many others to come forward to take the vaccine. After news about him suffering a cardiac arrest was reported, there were rumours about it being a result of the vaccine related complications.

The Tamil Nadu Health Department soon called a press meet to dismiss the rumours. The doctors clarified that the sudden attack was due to an acute coronary syndrome with a cardiogenic shock. It was not related to the Covid-19 vaccine. Various tests and CT reports also confirmed that the actor did not have Covid-19.

Vivek had a 100% blood clot in his left artery. He suffered a separate cardiac event called ventricular fibrillation, resulting in decreased supply of blood to the brain. He passed away at 4.35 AM, a medical bulletin from the hospital said.

Vivek is a veteran actor who has done more than 220 films. He is a recipient of three Filmfare Awards South and 5 Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. In 2009, he was awarded Vivek with the Padma Shri award his contribution to the arts. Sathyabama University has conferred him with an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the society through cinema.

Jayaram and Meera Jasmine in Sathyan Anthikad’s next

On Vishu day, veteran director Sathyan Anthikad announced his next project. Jayaram and Meera Jasmine would be playing the lead roles in the film. The two had previously acted together in ‘Onnum Mindathe’ and ‘Four Friends’. It will be interesting to see them share screen space after a long gap.

Sathyan Anthikad has confirmed that his new film will be another slice-of-life film in his usual style. Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram is scripting the film. The writer-director duo had previously collaborated for ‘Oru Indian Pranayakatha’ and ‘Jomonte Suvisheshangal’. ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame Devika Sanjay, Innocent, Siddique and Sreenivasan are also part of the supporting cast.

The director’s frequent collaborator S Kumar will be cranking the camera and music department will be handled by ‘Ambili’ fame Vishnu Vijay. Art director Prashant Madhav, costume designer Sameera Saneesh and sound designer Anil Radhakrishnan are also part of the technical team.

Central Productions is producing the film, which is yet to be titled. The makers are planning to start shooting by mid July.

Indrajith has finished shooting his portions in the film. Vishnu Vishal took to his social media handle to inform the same. He also tweeted in praise of Indrajith, which reads,

Indrajith has previously acted in Tamil films like ‘En Mana Vaanil’ and ‘Sarvam’. He had also played one of the lead roles in a web series recently titled ‘Queen’, in which he essayed the part of MGR. Indrajith is also part of Karthick Naren’s long delayed thriller film ‘Naragasooran’.

Swasika Vijay, Roshan Mathew, Santhy Balachandran and Alenicer Ley Lopez are playing the lead roles in a new film titled ‘Chathuram’. Actor-turned-filmmaker Sidharth Bharathan is directing the film. Its first look poster got unveiled recently on Vishu day. The film is being produced by Vinitha Ajit, George Sandiago, Jamneesh Thayyil and Sidharth Bharathan under the banners of Greenwich entertainments and Yellove Bird productions.

‘Chathuram’ is scripted by Sidharth Bharathan along with Vinoy Thomas. Pradeesh Verma is the cinematographer and music department is being handled by Prashant Pillai. Deepu Joseph has been assigned as the editor. Art Director Akhilraj Chirayil, costume designer Stephy Zaviour, make up artist Abilash M, stunt choreographer Mafia Sasi and sound designer Vicky are also part of the film’s technical team.

Sidharth Bharathan had made another film last year. Titled as ‘Djinn’, it has Soubin Shahir, Santhy Balachandran, Leona Lishoy, Shine Tom Chacko and Sharafudheen in major roles. Though shoot was completed sometime back, it got delayed due to the pandemic. The film is scripted by Rajesh Gopinadhan, who had earlier penned the Dulquer starrer ‘Kali’.

‘Paappan’ is written by RJ Shaan, who had earlier co-scripted ‘C/O Saira Banu’. The makers have confirmed that it is a family-based film with mystery and suspense elements in it. Sunny Wayne, Nyla Usha, Neeta Pillai and Gokul Suresh Gopi are essaying other major roles in it. The cast also includes Kaniha, Vijayaraghavan, Asha Sarath, Chandhunadh, Tini Tom and Shammy Thilakan.

Cinematographer Ajay David Kachappilly, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Shyam Sasidharan comprise the core technical team. The film is being produced by David Kachappilly Productions and Cubes International Group. It will be presented by Agosh Cinemas and Chand V Movies.

‘Kuruthi’, a multi-starrer headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran is gearing up to hit screens. The film recently got censored with a U/A certificate and an announcement regarding the release date will be made today evening at 6 PM. Directed by debutant Manu Warrier and scripted by Anish Pallyal, promises to be an intense action thriller.

Along with Prithviraj, the film’s cast also includes Murali Gopy, Roshan Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko, Srindaa, Mamukkoya, Manikandan Rajan, Navas Vallikkunnu, ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Naslen and ‘Thatteem Mutteem’ fame Sagar Surya in key roles.

Sharing a new poster of the film in his social media handle, Murali Gopy has written that ‘Kuruthi’ would be one of the most important mainstream movies of these times. A statement like that coming from a proven scenarist has certainly heightened the expectations.

‘Kuruthi’ is produced by Supriya Menon under the banner of Prithviraj Productions. The film has ‘Amen’ fame Abhinandan Ramanujam as the cinematographer and Jakes Bejoy as the music director. Akhilesh Mohan is editing the film.

Joju George is getting rave reviews for his terrific performance in ‘Nayattu’. As Maniyan, a veteran police officer on the run, the actor got his body language and angst spot on. He had put on nearly 132 kilos for his character in it. Joju is currently in the process of shedding all the extra weight. He has committed for a new film with director Rajeev Ravi, which demands him to be in a much fitter look.

In a recent interview to The Cue, Joju said that it was during the shoot of ‘Virus’ that he interacted with Rajeev Ravi for the first time. The latter was impressed with his performance and had asked him to reduce weight so that he can do a variety of roles. Later, Rajeev Ravi cast him in a crucial role in ‘Thuramukham’. Biju Menon was originally supposed to play the part but he opted out due to some unknown reasons.

Joju’s next with Rajeev Ravi is being scripted by GR Indugopan. More details regarding the project are expected to be announced soon.

Kalidas Jayaram’s new bilingual film announced; Malayalam version titled Rajni

Kalidas Jayaram has been trying to find his feet in Tamil and Malayalam industry. Last year, his performances in OTT-released films like ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ and ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ got praised by many. The actor has now signed a bilingual film. Debutant director Vinil Varghese is helming the film and it is being produced by Navarasa Films. Its official announcement was made last day on the auspicious occasion of Vishu.

The film’s Malayalam version has been titled as ‘Rajni’ while the Tamil version’s title is yet to be announced. Director Vinil Varghese himself has written the film’s story and screenplay. Dialogues are penned by Vincent Vadakkan of ‘Trance’ fame. Reba Monica John and Namitha Pramod will ne seen as the female leads. The cast also includes Karunakaran, Saiju Kurup, Lakshmy Gopalaswamy and Ashwin Kumar.

Shoot for ‘Rajni’ is still under progress. On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Jebin Jacob and edits handled by Deepu Joseph.
