Watch: Son of Gangster trailer looks impressive

The trailer of upcoming Malayalam film ‘Son of Gangster’ has just been released online. Superstar Mohanlal has shared the trailer through his social media handle. Rahul Madhav, noted for his roles in ‘Memories’, ‘Thani Oruvan’ and ‘Adam Joan’, plays the lead role in the film. It is written and directed by Vimal Raj. Sinoj Augustian and Praseetha Kailasanadhan are jointly producing it under the banner of R Colours Productions.

From the trailer, ‘Son of Gangster’ looks like a crime drama. In a bearded look, Rahul Madhav appears to be playing an intense, rogue like character. The cast also includes Tom, Jaffer Idukki, Rajesh Sharma, Kailash, Sunil Sukhadha and Hariprasanth Varma.

On the technical front, the film has Pappinu cranking the camera. Sreehari K Nair, who made a promising debut with ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’, will handles the music department. Manu Shaju is in charge of the edits.

VJS 46: Miss India World Anukreethy Vas to be paired with Vijay Sethupathi

Last day, Sun Pictures announced their new project with Vijay Sethupathi. Tentatively titled as VJS 46, the film will be directed by Ponram. Latest buzz is that Femina Miss India World 2018 Anukreethy Vas has been roped in to play the female lead in the film. An official confirmation is awaited in this regard.

Anukreethy Vas is also part of couple of other projects. She plays one of the major roles in a new film directed by debutant director Zak Harris. Kathir, Anandhi and Narain also star in it. Anukreethy is also the female lead in ‘Savarakathi’ director Aathithya’s sophomore film ‘Pitha’.

Meanwhile ‘VJS 46’ is expected to start rolling shortly. It is said to be a cop-action film featuring Vijay Sethupathi as a high rank police officer. The film has D Imman as the music director, Dinesh Krishnan as the cinematographer and Vivek Harshan as the editor. More details are awaited.

Joju George is teaming up with ‘Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam’ director Domin D’Silva for a new film titled ‘Star’. Touted to be a psychological mystery thriller, the film also has Prithviraj Sukumaran in a cameo role. He has released the first look poster through his social media handle. Abraham Mathew is producing the film under the banner of Abaam Movies.

‘Star’ is scripted by Suvin S Somasekharan. As per the makers, the film discusses about the various Indian myths, and looks at how myths and blind beliefs affect people’s lives. The film comes with the tagline ‘Burst of Myths’. Prithviraj essays a character named Derrick, a doctor who unravels the mystery in the story.

‘Ladoo’ fame Gayathri Ashokan and Sheelu Abraham will be seen in other major roles. On the technical front, the film has Tharun Bhaskaran as the cinematographer and songs composed by M Jayachandran and Ranjin Raj. William Francis is handling the background score. Lalkrishnan S Achutham is the editor.

The makers are eyeing a theatrical release. Magic Frames is presenting the film.

Watch: Irul trailer is all about mystery!

Fahadh Faasil’s new film ‘Irul’ is gearing up for a direct release in Netflix. Its trailer has just been shared online. The film directed by debutant Naseef Yusuf Izuddin is centered mainly around three characters, played by Fahadh, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran. From the trailer, we presume that the whole film is set in a posh mansion where the three characters come together. The trailer is highly intriguing as it is full of suspense and mystery.

The plot details given by Netflix goes like this,

A dark rainy night, an empty house, a stranded couple and an unknown man. A sleek game of the cat and the mouse starts playing on, as the three of them find a dead body in the basement. The movie takes the shape of an old-fashioned whodunit — the kind with mystery, suspense and a house which feels like a mousetrap. Leaving us questioning, who is the killer?

‘Irul’ is jointly produced by Anto Joseph Film Company and Plan J Studios, headed by Jomon T John and Shameer Muhammed. Jomon has cranked the camera and edits are done by Shammer. The film is set to premiere on April 2.

Vijay to reunite with Lokesh Kanagaraj for Thalapathy 66; Mersal makers Thenandal Films to produce the film!

After the smashing success of ‘Master’, there have been various speculations about Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj teaming up once again. The news seems to be true as it is being widely reported that Vijay has given his nod. Apparently, Thenandal Films, the banner that produced the star’s 2018-blockbuster ‘Mersal’, will be producing this film (Thalapathy 66).

Since ‘Mersal’ was made on a huge budget, the makers could not gain big profit out of that film. So Vijay had promised to do another project with the banner. And since Lokesh is known for doing films within a reasonable budget, Vijay felt that he will be the right choice for the project. More details are expected to be out soon.

Vijay meanwhile will soon start shooting for his next film, Thalapathy 65. Nelson Dilipkumar of ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ fame is directing the film. Pre-production works are currently in the final stages as the makers are planning to start shoot in April. Sun Pictures is producing the film, which is being planned as a pan-Indian project.

Sun Pictures is set to produce a new film starring Vijay Sethupathi. Ponram is directing the film, official announcement regarding which has just made via Twitter. From the announcement video, it looks like a cop-action film featuring Vijay Sethupathi as a high rank police officer. Tentatively titled as ‘VJS 46’, the film has D Imman as the music director, Dinesh Krishnan as the cinematographer and Vivek Harshan as the editor.

Director Ponram is known for his recurring collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan. They have teamed up for rural mass entertainers like ‘Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam’, ‘Rajinimurugan’ and ‘Seemaraja’. While the first two films were commercially successful, the third one failed to make an impact. The director also has a film titled ‘MGR Magan’ in the making. Sasikumar and Sathyaraj star in the film, which is gearing up for release.

Ponram will be hoping to return back to winning ways with his new film with Vijay Sethupathi. More details regarding the project are expected to be out soon.

Jagapathi Babu joins the cast of Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe

It looks like the makers of ‘Annaatthe’ are planning to resume shoot. Last day, they announced that Jagapathi Babu has joined the cast. After sharing screen space with Tamil stars like Vijay, Ajith and Vikram, he is now set to act alongside Rajinikanth for the first time. He is popular for playing negative roles in almost all South Indian languages. It remains to be seen if he essays the antagonist role in this film as well.

‘Annaatthe’ directed by Siva is said to be a rural-based mass entertainer. It is expected to be on the lines of Siva’s previous film ‘Viswasam’ with prominence to family emotions. The film has a star-studded cast, which includes four female leads — Keerthy Suresh, Meena, Khushbu and Nayanthara. Prakash Raj, Sathish, Vela Ramamoorthy, Soori, Bala and many others are part of the supporting cast.

‘Annatthe’ has music by Imman, cinematography by Vetri and edits handed by Ruben. Sun Pictures is producing the film, which has been confirmed as a grand Diwali release in November.

Telugu actress Eesha Reba to play the female lead in Kunchacko Boban-Arvind Swamy starrer Ottu

We had recently reported about Kunchacko Boban and Arvind Swamy teaming up for a Tamil-Malayalam film. The Malayalam version has been titled as ‘Ottu’. ‘Theevandi’ fame TP Fellini is directing the film and it is penned by S Sajeevan. The film is produced by August Cinema headed by Arya and Shaji Nadesan.

Telugu actress Eesha Rebba has been signed as the female lead. She is noted for her roles in films like ‘Awe’, ‘Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava’ and the recently released Netflix original ‘Pitta Kathalu’. She will be making her Malayalam debut with ‘Ottu’. The actress has revealed that she will be appearing in an all new avatar in the film.

Shoot is scheduled to begin by March-end in Goa. Mumbai and Mangalore have been finalized as the other major locations. Since it is a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual, actors from both the languages will be part of the supporting cast.

More details are expected to announced officially before shoot begins.

John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate 2 to clash with Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai

John Abraham has announced the release date of his upcoming film ‘Satyamavea Jayate 2’ by sharing a new poster. It has been revealed that the star plays a dual role in the film. The new poster has two John Abrahams fighting it out. While one appears to be a cop, the other is dressed casually as a common man. The film will be clashing with Salman Khan’s Eid release ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’. Both the films are scheduled to hit screens on May 13.

‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ is the spiritual sequel to John Abraham’s hit film that got released in 2018. Milap Zaveri, who directed the first part, is helming this one as well. Divya Khosla Kumar plays the female lead. Just like the first part, this one is also said to be a vigilante action thriller. Malayali actor Rajeev Pillai, best known among Malayalis for his successful stint in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), will be seen essaying a negative role in the film.

‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ is the spin-off the lead character from Salman’s 2009-released blockbuster film, ‘Wanted’. Prabhu Deva, who directed that film, is helming this one as well. It has been planned as an action-packed cop flick that follows the lead character Radhe’s mission as an undercover cop. The film has Disha Patani as the female lead. Jackie Shroff and Randeep Hooda will also be seen in major roles.

Mammootty’s ‘The Priest’ has proved to be a major booster for theatre business in Kerala as the film continues to have an excellent run. After a super successful weekend, the film is having good occupancy in the working days as well. The makers have released a special teaser to celebrate this success.

‘The Priest’ success is a clear indication that the common audience, mainly comprising of families, are returning back to theatres after a long gap caused due to the pandemic. It is the first major release in Malayalam after over a year and theatre owners are extremely pleased with the film’s performance so far.

Last day, representatives of the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) visited Mammootty at his residence in Kochi to thank him for helping in reviving the dwindling theatre business. Though the makers got lucrative offers from leading OTTs, it was Mammootty who insisted that the film should release in theatres.
