Second shows allowed; The Priest to hit screens this Thursday

After holding several rounds of discussions, the Kerala government has finally granted permission for second shows in the state. With that, the much anticipated Mammootty starrer ‘The Priest’ has also been confirmed for release on March 11. The film was earlier scheduled to hit screens on March 4 but the makers postponed it as second shows were not allowed then.

Though theatres in Kerala resumed functioning in January, box office collections have been very dull so far. The 50% audience restriction and no second show rule backfired as only ‘Operation Java’ managed to have a fair run among the films that hit screens post pandemic.

The release of ‘The Priest’ is expected to breathe a new life to theatrical business in the state. Directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko, the film promises to be a mystery thriller. The promos have been impressive and expectations are high among fans. Manju Warrier, Nikhila Vimal, Saniya Iyappan, Venkitesh and many others are part of the film.

On the special occasion of International Women’s Day, the makers of ‘Member Rameshan 9th Ward’ have released a special poster. It features the lead pair, Arjun Ashokan and Gayathri Ashok. Recently, they had also released the first single titled as ‘Alare Neeyennile’. This romantic song composed by Kalias Menon has already become a big hit in social medias. Ayraan and Nithya Mammen have sung the track.

‘Member Rameshan 9th Ward’ is said to be a full length political entertainer set in a rural backdrop. The film is written and directed by debutants Anto Jose Pereira and Aby Treesa Paul. Arjun Ashokan plays the lead character named OM Rameshan. Johny Antony, Sabumon, Mamukkoya and Saju Kodiyan also play the role of politicians in the film.

Chemban Vinod Jose, Shabareesh Varma, Indrans, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Mareena Michael and many others are part of the film’s supporting cast. The film is produced by Boban-Moly duo under the banner of Boban and Moly Entertainment.

India’s ace badminton player Saina Nehwal is getting a biopic made in Bollywood. Titled ‘Saina’, the film has Parineeti Chopra in the lead role. Today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the makers have released the film’s trailer online. The 2-minute long trailer has glimpses of Saina’s journey from an ordinary family in Haryana to become the World’s No.1 badminton player.

Saina Nehwal is the only Indian female badminton player to be ranked as World No 1. In 2012, She became the first Indian badminton player to an Olympic medal by clinching bronze. She has also bagged two medals each at the World Championships and Asian Games and has won a total of 5 medals at the Commonwealth Games including 3 gold medals.

‘Saina’, the film, is written and directed by Amol Gupte of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fame. The biopic was originally planned with Shraddha Kapoor but she later opted out due to her schedule clashes. Parineeti later replaced and worked rigorously to play the shuttler’s character. From the glimpses we get to see in the trailer, Parineeti does make an impact.

The film produced by T-Series Films is scheduled to hit screens on March 26, 2021.

After teasing with a couple of posters, the makers of Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming film with Rosshan Andrrews have finally shared the title and first look. Titled as ‘Salute’, it is a cop flick that has Dulquer playing a full fledged police role for the first time in his career. The first look poster features the star donning the khakis.

‘Salute’ scripted by Bobby-Sanjay is said to be an investigative thriller. The writer duo and director Rosshan Andrrews had previously made another cop film titled, ‘Mumbai Police’, which is considered as one of the most ingenious thrillers made in Malayalam cinema till date. Fans and cinephiles are hoping that they can come up with something groundbreaking like that again.

Dulquer himself is producing ‘Salute’ under his banner Wayfarer Films. Bollywood actress Diana Penty of ‘Cocktail’ fame has been signed as the female lead. Manoj K Jayan, Saniya Iyappan and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy will be seen in other prominent roles. Aslam K Purayil handles the camera and veteran Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the editing side. The makers have also roped in Santhosh Narayanan, one of Tamil cinema’s most popular composers, to handle the music department.

Joji: Fahadh Faasil’s next with Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran gears up for OTT release

Fahadh Faasil’s eagerly awaited film ‘Joji’ is most likely to get a direct OTT release. The film directed by Dileesh Pothan and scripted by Syam Pushkaran has huge expectations among cinephiles. So an OTT release might come in as a disappointment but it is learnt that the film will be having its premiere in a leading platform next month. An official word from the makers will be out soon.

‘Joji’ marks the reunion of Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran. The trio had previously worked together in ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ and ‘Thondimuthalum Driksashiyum’. Both the films were boxoffice hits and even went on to win National awards. Naturally, ‘Joji’ carries a lot of expectations.

As confirmed by the makers, the film is inspired from Willaim Shakespeare’s famous play, ‘Macbeth’. According to them, it is an independent adaptation that is set in the modern era. Shammy Thilakan, Baburaj and Unnimaya Prasad are also playing major roles in it.

‘Joji’ has Shyju Khalid as the cinematographer and Kiran Das as the editor. Music is by Justin Varghese of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ and ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame. The film is backed by Dileesh Pothan-Syam Pushkaran duo’s production company, Working Class along with Fahadh’s banner, Fahadh Faasil And Friends.

Mammootty and Parvathy to team up for Puzhu!

On the special occasion of International Women’s Day, it has been announced that Mammootty and Parvathy Thiruvothu would be teaming up for a new film titled ‘Puzhu’. Debutante Ratheena will be directing the film and it is produced by S George. Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films will be releasing the film in theatres.

‘Puzhu’ has its story written by ‘Unda’ fame Harshad. He has penned the screenplay along with Suhas and Sharfu, who made their debut with ‘Varathan’ and later co-wrote the multi-starrer ‘Virus’ with Muhsin Parari. The makers have put together a strong technical crew.

Theni Eswar, who has cranked the camera for several acclaimed Tamil films, is making his Malayalam debut with ‘Puzhu’. It is worth a mention that he has earlier worked with Mammootty in ‘Peranbu’. Jakes Bejoy has been assigned as the music director and Deepu Joseph will be handling the edits. Art director Manu Jagadh, sound designers Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar, costume designer Sameera Saneesh and project designer Badhusha are also part of the team.

The fact that Mammootty and Parvathy are coming together, particularly after the ‘Kasaba’ issue, where the actress called out the alleged misogyny in the film, has already raised a lot of curiosity about ‘Puzhu’. The makers have so far been tight-lipped about revealing details regarding the lead characters or the film’s genre.

The actor recently participated in the 46th Tamil Nadu State Shooting Championship and won a total of 6 medals including 3 golds.

Ajith represented the Chennai Rifle Club along with Siddharth Sivakumar, A Jagannathan, Sumeet Harkisondas Sanghavi, Vijay Kumar, Varun Madhu and S Sudhakar at various events. The team won gold in Air Pistol 10mts (ISSF), Center Fire Pistol .32 (NR) 25mts and Standard Pistol .22 (ISSF) 25mts. They bagged silver in Center Fire Pistol .32 (ISSF) 25mts and Standard Pistol .22 (NR) 25mts.

At the 45th Tamil Nadu State Shooting Championship, Ajith had represented the Chennai Rifle Club in the 10 metre air rifle and 50 metre free pistol category. Photos of him practicing at the rifle clubs are often spotted doing the rounds in social medias.

Vinay Forrt, Anu Sithara and Krishna Sankar team up for Vaathil

A new Malayalam movie titled ‘Vaathil’ has just been announced through social medias. Actor Jayasurya made the official announcement through his Facebook page by releasing the title poster. Vinay Forrt, Anu Sithara and Krishna Sankar will be seen playing the lead roles in the film. It is directed by Sarju Remakanth, who has previously made ‘Utharaswayamvaram’ in 2009.

‘Vaathil’ is scripted by Shamnad Shabeer and produced jointly by Suji K Govindraj and Rajeesh Valanchery. Kerala State Award winner Manesh Madhavan is the cinematographer and edits will be handled by John Kutty. Sejo John has been assigned as the music director. Costume designer Arun Manohar, art director Sabu Ram, production designer Rasheed Masthan and makeup artist Amal are also part of the technical crew. Spark Pictures will be presenting the film.

Zakariya’s next with Mammootty to begin next year

We had earlier reported that promising young filmmaker Zakariya would be teaming up with superstar Mammootty for a new film. In a recent interview, the director revealed that they will be beginning the project next year. Along with Mammootty, many other known faces will be part of the cast. The youngster is also planning a film with Kunchacko Boban, which is still in the early stages.

Zakariya made an excellent debut in 2018 with ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. The film won the National award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam and also bagged five awards at the State level. Besides the critical acclaim, it also emerged successful at the box office. Zakariya’s second film, ‘Halal Love Story’, however could not yield the desired results. Releasing directly on Amazon Prime, the film was met with mixed response and criticisms were also pointed its problematic politics.

It is not yet known which genre Zakariya is attempting with Mammootty next.
