Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Johny Antony team up for Sabash Chandra Bose; Here’s the first look poster

A new film Malayalam film titled ‘Sabash Chandra Bose’ has been announced. Vishnu Unnikrishnan and actor-turned-filmmaker Johny Antony play the lead roles in the film. It is directed by National award winner VC Abhilash and produced by Jony Lonappan. Irshad, Dharmajan, Jaffer Idukki, Sudhi Koppa, Sneha, Kottayam Ramesh, Remya Suresh, Sreeja Das, Adhiti, Balu and Safwan will be seen in supporting roles.

Dulquer Salmaan shared the first look poster of ‘Sabash Chandra Bose’ and wished the team all success. In his social media handle, he has written,

VC Abhilash made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed ‘Aalorukkam’. The film won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues while Indrans won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his widely acclaimed performance. Expectations will be high on the filmmaker’s second film, ‘Sabash Chandra Bose’. From the first look, it looks like a colourful fun entertainer.

Aaraanu: Check out this new song from Tsunami

As ‘Tsunami’ gears up to hit screens on March 11, the makers have released a new song online. Neha and Yakzan Gary Pereira handle the music department in the film. Directed by the father-son duo of Lal and Lal Jr, ‘Tsunami’ promises to be a non-stop comedy entertainer. The trailer and promos released so far promised the same.

‘Tsunami’ scripted by Lal is said to be based on a real story. According to him, the film’s base idea came from a funny incident shared by actor Innocent in the sets of ‘Godfather’ almost 30 years back. Interestingly, director Priyadarshan also had plans to make a film based on the same incident.

‘Tsunami’ stars Balu Varghese, Aaradhya Ann, Aju Varghese, Balu Varghese, Mukesh and Innocent in major roles. There is also a big supporting cast comprising of actors like Suresh Krishna, Devi Ajith, Nisha Mathew, Binu Adimaly, Sinoj Varghese and Vathsala Menon. The film has Alex J Pulickal as the cinematographer and Ratheesh Raj as the editor.

Allan Antony is presenting the film under the banner of Panda Dad Production.

It’s a wrap for Prithviraj starrer Bhramam

Prithviraj’s new film ‘Bhramam’, directed by Ravi K Chandran has successfully been wrapped up. The star took to his social media handle to inform the same. Along with that he has also shared the screenshot of a gloriously lit up scene in the film. He has written,

‘Bhramam’ is the remake of acclaimed Hindi film, ‘Andhadhun’. Since the original was a huge commercial hit that also won a couple of National awards, the makers of ‘Bhramam’ will be hoping to repeat the success. Sarath Balan has scripted the film.

Along with Prithviraj, ‘Bhramam’ has Unni Mukundan, Mamta Mohandas and Raashi Khanna in major roles. Shankar, Jagadeesh, Sudheer Karamana, Surabhi Lakshmi, Ananya and many others are part of the film’s supporting cast. On the technical front, director Ravi K Chandran himself has handled the camera and Jakes Bejoy has been signed as the music director. Sreekar Prasad is the editor.

Dulquer Salmaan introduces the technical crew of his next film!

Shoot for Dulquer Salmaan’s new film with director Rosshan Andrrews is progressing at a brisk pace. Last day, Dulquer shared a poster introducing the technical crew members associated with this film. Aslam K Purayil handles the camera and veteran Sreekar Prasad has been assigned as the editor. The makers have also roped in popular Tamil composer Santhosh Narayanan. He is best known for his work in films like ‘Kaala’, ‘Kabali’, ‘Madras’, ‘Jigarthanda’ and ‘Vada Chennai’.

Dulquer is said to be playing a police officer’s role in the film, which is yet to be titled. Though the actor had appeared as a police officer briefly in ‘Vikramadithyan’, this will be his first outing in a full fledged cop role. Scripted by Bobby-Sanjay, it is said to be an investigative thriller.

Bollywood actress Diana Penty of ‘Cocktail’ fame plays the female lead. Manoj K Jayan, Saniya Iyappan and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy will also be seen in important roles. Dulquer is producing the film under his banner Wayfarer Films.

Kunchacko Boban’s next with Android Kunjappan fame Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval titled as Nna Thaan Case Kodu

Kunchacko Boban had recently announced that he would be teaming up with Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval of ‘Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25’ fame for a new film. It has been titled as ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’. Vinay Forrt, Gayathrie Shankar, Saiju Kurup and Jaffer Idukki will also be seen in major roles.

From the title and star cast, it looks like an interesting project. Details regarding the film’s genre are not yet known. The film will have cinematography by veteran Madhu Neelakandan. Santhosh T Kuruvilla and Aashiq Abu are jointly producing the film.

Ratheesh Balakrishnan had recently finished the shoot of his second film ‘Kanakam Kamini Kalaham’ starring Nivin Pauly. According to the director, it is a family drama that also has dark humour and satirical elements in it. Grace Antony, Vinay Forrt, Joy Mathew and ‘Vikruthi’ fame Vincy Aloshious are also part of the film.

Kunchacko Boban meanwhile has completed shooting for ‘Naayattu’, ‘Mohan Kumar Fans’, ‘Beemante Vazhi’ and ‘Nizhal’. ‘Ottu’ with TP Fellini, ‘Grrr’ with Jay K, ‘Aaram Pathiraa’ with Midhun Manuel Thomas, ‘Neelavelicham’ with Aashiq Abu and ‘Ariyppu’ with Mahesh Narayanan are his other projects in the pipeline.

Vijay Sethupathi starts dubbing for 19 (1)(a)

’19 (1)(a)’ is an upcoming Malayalam film that has Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen as the leads. Debutante Indu VS is directing the film. Its shoot has already been completed and the makers are currently busy with the post-production. Vijay Sethupathi recently started dubbing for his portions. This is his first full fledged Malayalam film and naturally expectations are high.

Director Indu has also scripted ’19 (1)(a)’. As per the makers, the film has a pan-Indian subject that demands strong performers like Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen. Indrajith and eteran Indrans also will be seen essaying important roles. Others in the vast include Bhagath Manuel and Deepak Parambol.

On the technical front, ’96’ fame Govind Vasantha is the music director and Kerala State award winner Manesh Madhavan is handling the cinematography. The film is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company. There are rumours about the film getting a direct OTT release but the makers are yet to confirm it.

Drishyam 2 ranked among the world’s most popular films!

‘Drishyam 2’ has to be one of the most talked about films in recent times. Thanks to its direct release in Amazon Prime Video, film lovers across the world could watch and enjoy the film with English subtitles. It soon became a nationwide sensation with several non-Malayalis including celebs showering their praise on the film.

‘Drishyam 2’ has now been ranked among the world’s most popular films. Internet Movie Date base, popularly known as IMDb, regularly updates a list of most popular films and the Mohanlal starrer is currently ranked 10th in the list with a rating of 8.8. Interestingly, among the top 10 films, ‘Drishyam 2’ has the highest rating. The ratings are determined by customers who rank films and TV shows. Rosamund Pike’s ‘I Care A Lot’ tops the list followed by ‘Mortal Combat’ and Academy award winner Frances McDormand’s ‘Nomadland’.

‘Drishyam 2’ directed by Jeethu Joseph is the sequel to the blockbuster film that got released in 2013. After the phenomenal response, remake talks have begun in multiple languages. The Telugu version starring Venkatesh has already started rolling. Jeethu himself is directing the film.

Ranjith confirms teaming up with Fahadh Faasil

Popular Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan was recently chosen by the CPIM to contest in the upcoming assembly elections from Kozhikode North. Despite that, the director is still planning to stay active in cinema. In a recent interview, he informed that he is currently working on the script for his next film that will have Fahadh Faasil as the lead.

Fahadh and Ranjith have previously worked together in ‘Indian Rupee’, in which the former played a cameo role. Fahadh also starred in ‘Ayal Njanalla’, which was scripted by Ranjith. It must be noted that the veteran has not been in the best of form of late; so he will be raring to make a strong comeback soon.

Meanwhile, Fahadh Faasil has multiple projects lined up. He was recently injured while shooting for his upcoming film ‘Malayankunj’ and has been advised rest. The much-anticipated Mahesh Narayanan directorial ‘Malik’ will be his next release, scheduled for May 13. Fahadh has also completed shooting for ‘Irul’ directed by debutant Naseef Yusuf Izuddin and ‘Joji’ helmed by Dileesh Pothan.

Suvarna Chakoram for best film for This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection; Audience poll Rajata Chakoram for best film for Churuli at 25th IFFK

The 25th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) concluded on Friday in Palakkad with the awards ceremony. Legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest at the event held at Priya theatre. The Suvarna Chakoram for best film was awarded to South African film ‘This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection’, directed by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese.

Malayalam filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Churuli’ won the audience poll Rajata Chakoram for the best film. The Rajata Chakoram for the best director was bagged by Bahman Tavoosi, who directed ‘The Names of the Flowers’ (Los Nombres De Las Flores).

‘Musical Chair’ directed by Vipin Atley won the NETPAC Award for the best Malayalam film. ‘In Between Dying’ won the FIPRESCI Award for the best film in international competition. ‘Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25’, directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval won the FIPRESCI Award for the best Malayalam film.

Alejandro Telemaco Tarraf, who directed ‘Piedra Sola’, won the Rajata Chakoram for the best debut director. ‘Sthalpuran – Chronicle of Space’ won the NETPAC Award for the best Asian film in the competition. Akshay Indikar, who made the film, was chosen for FFSI KR Mohanan Award for the best debut director from India.

Rajisha Vijayan dons the coach’s hat; Watch Kho Kho teaser here!

The teaser of Rajisha Vijayan’s new film ‘Kho Kho’ has just dropped online. It is a sports based flick has Rajisha playing the role of a Kho Kho coach. From the teaser, it is clear that the film is about the struggles in the sport and how Rajisha’s character brings together a group of passionate young girls to prove their worth. The film is written and directed by Rahul Riji Nair of ‘Ottamuri Velicham’ fame.

Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport, which is also played across South Asia and some parts of South Africa and England. It is probably the first time that a film based on Kho Kho is being made in mainstream Indian cinema. A bunch of original Kho Kho players are also part of the cast.

‘Kho Kho’ has cinematography by Tobin Thomas and music by Sidhartha Pradeep. Editor-turned-filmmaker Appu Bhattathiri is the post-production supervisor and edits are being done by Christy Sebastian. The film is being produced under the banner of First Print Studios.
