Rajisha Vijayan continues to bag interesting projects. She has signed a new Malayalam film titled ‘Kho Kho’, the first look poster of which has been released by superstar Mohanlal through his Facebook page. Rajisha appears in two looks in the poster — one with long hair and the other in a sportsperson’s attire with short hair. The film is written and directed by Rahul Riji Nair of ‘Ottamuri Velicham’ fame. It is produced under the banner of First Print Studios.

Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport. It is a popular tag game played across South Asia and has a strong presence in South Africa and England. From the first look, we can make out that Rajisha will be seen playing a Kho Kho player’s role in the film. This is actually her second outing as a sportsperson. She had previously played the role of a cyclist in ‘Finals’.

‘Kho Kho’ will have cinematography by Tobin Thomas and music by Sidhartha Pradeep. Appu Bhattathiri will be the post-production supervisor and edits will be done by Christy Sebastian.

During the lockdown days, director Khalid Rahman of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ and ‘Unda’ fame had completed a feature film with limited cast and crew. Titled as ‘Love’, the film has Shine Tom Chacko and Rajisha Vijayan in the lead roles. Its trailer has now been released online. It looks like a psychological thriller that is set entirely in an apartment complex.

Shine Tom and Rajisha Vijayan seem to be playing a couple in the film. Rajisha plays a character named Deepthi while Shine’s role is named as Anoop. Notably, this is the first time the two are acting together as a pair. Sudhi Koppa, ‘Kettyolaan Ente Malakha’ fame Veena Nandakumar, Sudhi Koppa, Gokulan and Johny Antony are also part of the supporting cast.

Khalid Rahman and editor Noufal Abdullah have co-written the film. The director’s brother Jimshi Khalid has hanlded the cinematography and music is done by Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pereira. The team shot the film in just around 20 days by following all the government protocols.

‘Love’ is produced by Ashiq Usman. It is not yet known if the film is eyeing a theatre release or a direct OTT release.

The announcement regarding Suriya’s highly-anticipated film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ releasing directly in Amazon Prime was met with mixed response. While fans were disappointed that they won’t be able to enjoy the film in a theatrical ambience, theatre owners and distributors in Tamil Nadu also expressed in displeasure in a big-star film like ‘Soorarai Pottru’ opting for an OTT release.

Suriya, who is also one the film’s producers, assured that he will be contributing a sum of Rs 5 crores from the profits of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ for the welfare of people in the film industry. As a first step, the actor has donated 1.5 crores to various film bodies. Suriya’s father Sivakumar personally handed over the cheques. Rs 80 lakhs was donated for FEFSI workers and Rs 20 lakhs to TANTIS (directors union). His contributed another 30 lakhs to Tamil Film Producers council (TFPC) and Rs 20 lakhs to the actors’ body, Nadigar Sangam.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is scheduled to have its world premier on October 30. As announced by the makers, the film will be streaming in over 200 countries across the world.

Before the pandemic brought things to a standstill, Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ (KKK) had a good run in theatres. Directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy, the film was a sleeper hit at the box office. With just one film, the director has already made his mark as a talent to watch out for.

After the success of ‘KKK’, Periyasamy is said to be getting offers from several corners. He even got a call from Rajinikanth who was highly impressed with the film. In the phone call, the superstar had also asked Periyasamy to develop a suitable subject for him.

As per latest reports from Kollywood medias, Periyasamy will be teaming up with young star Sivakarthikeyan next. He has already started working on the script and an official confirmation is expected to be made soon. With a much bigger star like Sivakarthikeyan at the helm, it will be interesting to see what genre the director attempts next.

Minnal Murali teaser to be released by Prithviraj and Fahadh Faasil

After unveiling the first look poster, the makers of Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Minnal Murali’ are releasing the teaser next. It will be out on Thiruvonam Day (August 31). Prithviraj Sukumaran and Fahadh Faasil will be releasing the teaser through their social media handle. It is quite heartening to see contemporaries promoting each other’s films, a sight that is only common in Malayalam.

‘Minnal Murali’ is a a local superhero film directed by Basil Joseph. It is planned as a pan-Indian film that will be released in 5 languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. In Telugu, the film has been titled as ‘Merupu Murali’. In Kannada, it’s ‘Minchu Murali’ and in Hindi, it’s ‘Mister Murali’.

The film is scripted by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew. Along with Tovino, Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram is also there in a major role. Aju Varghese, Baiju Santhosh, Harisree Ashokan, Mammukoya, debutante Femina George and many others are part of the cast.

Cinematographer Sameer Thahir, music director Shaan Rahman and Hollywood-based action choreographer Vlad Rimburg form the core technical team. Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing the film.

The trailer of Jacob Gregory starrer ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ has been released online. It looks like a fun rom-com set in a rural backdrop. The story is centred around the protagonist Ashokan trying to get married. The film is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan and directed by Shamsu Zayba.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ has an elaborate star cast. Anupama Parameswaran, Anu Sithara, Shritha Sivadas, Nayana Elza, Shine Ton Chacko, Krishna Shankar Vijayaraghavan and Lakshmi Sri will be seen in important roles. Young stars Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne will be appearing in cameo roles. On the technical front, camera is cranked by Sajad Kakku and music department is handled by Sreehari K Nair. Appu N Bhattathiri is editing the film.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ is jointly produced by Dulquer Salmaan and Jacob Gregory. The film is all set to premiere in streaming platfrom Netflix on August 31 on the auspicious day of Thiruvonam.

Soorarai Pottru to stream in 200 countries!

Much to the disappointment of Tamil cinema lovers, it was recently announced that Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ won’t be having a theatrical release. Instead, the film will be releasing directly on Amazon Prime. The film is scheduled to have its world premier on October 30. As announced by the makers, the film will be streaming in over 200 countries across the world. Since it is among the first big star films from Tamil to have an OTT release, everyone is looking forward to how the audience receive it.

Soorarai Pottru’ is an ambitious big-scale film directed by Sudha Kongara. The film is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. It follows the journey of Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from Madurai who dreams of owning an aircraft business. Suriya essays the role of Maara and Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali’s plays his wife’s character.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is produced jointly by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment.

Despite establishing herself as a bankable actor in Bollywood, Taapsee Pannu continues to be part of South Indian films. She has now signed a new Tamil film, which will be helmed by debutant Deepak Sundararajan, son of veteran actor-director actor R Sundararajan. Apparently, it is a comedy entertainer that will also Vijay Sethupathi in an important role. The makers are planning to start shooting in September. The entire team will be staying in Jaipur to complete the project in one go. They are currently waiting to acquire the approval for shoots. More details on the project are awaited. This is the first time Vijay Sethupathi and Taapsee are working together in a film and that makes it something to look forward to.

Meanwhile, both the actors have multiple projects coming up. Vijay Sethupathi’s next release will be ‘Ka Pae Ranasingam’. The film which also stars Aishwarya Rajesh is all set to be premiered directly on Zee5. He also has ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’, ‘Maamanithan’, ‘Laabam’, ‘Master’ , ‘Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir’ and ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ lined up. Taapsee has ‘Haseen Dillruba’, ‘Rashmi Rocket’ and the Tamil film ‘Jana Gana Mana’ coming up.

Bollywood medias are reporting that Shah Rukh Khan is set to team up with Siddharth Anand for a new action film. Reportedly titled as ‘Pathan’, the film might also have John Abraham in a major role. The two stars have not worked together yet, so fans are already excited. It is said that the film is planned on the lines of the director’s last film ‘War’. The Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer was a massive blockbuster. Apparently, the makers are planning a similar action-packed entertainer in which SRK and John Abraham will be locking horns.

Shah Rukh Khan has not had a big hit for some time now. He desperately needs one and ‘Pathan’ might be that much-needed film for him. The superstar was supposed to work with Raj Kumar Hirani next but due to the pandemic and the difficulty in shooting abroad, that project will probably be delayed.

‘Pathan’ is most likely to be SRK’s next to go on floors. It will be produced by Yash Raj Films. The film is expected to be formally announced next month as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the production house. Many other big flicks are also planned to be launched as part of this momentous occasion.

Jacob Gregory starrer ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ has been confirmed as a direct OTT release. The film will be premiering in Netflix on August 31 on the auspicious day of Thiruvonam. Dulquer Salmaan, who is producing the film, made the formal announcement through his social media handle. He has written,

It is going to be an exciting Thiruvonam for us at Wayfarer Films as Maniyarayile Asokan is being released on Netflix on Monday. The film is special for a number of reasons and I am super proud of the team that put together this sweet quirky love story. Can’t wait for you guys to watch it!
