Nivin Pauly and Aishwarya Lekshmi to star in Bismi Special

After the success of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’, Nivin Pauly and Aishwarya Lekshmi are coming together for a new film ‘Bismi Special’. It will be directed by newcomer Rajesh Ravi. He has also scripted the film along with two other scenarists, Rahul Ramesh and Sanu Majeed. Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing the film.

Nivin Pauly made the official announcement through his social media handle by sharing the title poster. It looks a food-based film as the poster features a biriyani pot. Sanu Varghese will be handling the cinematography and music will be composed by Sushin Shyam. Muhammed Ali is the editor.

Nivin Pauly has some other promising projects in his kitty. He was shooting for ‘Padavettu’ when the lockdown was announced. Debutant Liju Krishna is directing the film that also stars Aditi Balan of ‘Aruvi’ fame and Manju Warrier in major roles. Actor Sunny Wayne is producing the film.

Nivin’s next release will be ‘Thuramukham’, directed by Rajeev Ravi. Joju George, Poornima Indrajith, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sudev Nair, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan and Manikandan Achari are also part of the cast.

Gangster of Mundanmala: Nivin Pauly’s new film announced

July 16 has always been special for Nivin Pauly as it’s the release date of his maiden film, ‘Malarvadi Arts Club’. The film turned 10 this year and with that it also marked Nivin’s 10th year in cinema. On this special occasion, a new film of his titled ‘Gangster of Mundanmala’ was announced. The star himself is producing the film along with Ravi Mathew Productions.

‘Gangster of Mundanmala’ is scripted by debutant Aneesh Rajasekharan and will be directed by Ronnie Manuel Joseph. Justin Varghese of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ and ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ will be composing the music. More details regarding the cast and crew will be announced soon.

Shine Tom Chacko and Rajisha Vijayan play a couple in Khalid Rahman’s next

After the success of ‘Unda’, director Khalid Rahman had announced a project each with Shane Nigam and Tovino Thomas. But due to the Corona crisis, things did not fall in place as expected. The director eventually decided to do a family drama that could be shot with minimal resources. He scripted the film during the lockdown days and got Ashiq Usman to produce it.

This yet-to-be titled film has Rajisha Vijayan and Shine Tom Chacko in the leads. The story is about a couple living in an apartment and some events that occur in their lives. Rajisha plays a character named Deepthi while Shine’s role is named as Anoop. Notably, this is the first time the two are acting together as a pair.

Apart from the two leads, the cast also includes ‘Kettyolaan Ente Malakha’ fame Veena Nandakumar, Sudhi Koppa, Gokulan and Johny Antony. The team has already wrapped up the shoot. They shot the film in just around 20 days by following all the government protocols. Director Khalid’s brother Jimshi Khalid has hanlded the cinematography. It is not yet known if the makers are eyeing a theatre release or a direct OTT release.

Streaming giant Netflix has announced a massive slate of 17 new projects for the rest of 2020. They have released the titles of these projects, which includes feature films as well as series. Interestingly, all these projects are Hindi-based. Cinephiles are already expressing their dissent through social medias against this policy of ignoring regional content from South.

It has been exactly 10 years since the release of ‘Malarvadi Arts Club’. The film introduced a bunch of talents, most of whom went on to carve a niche for themselves in the industry. Nivin Pauly has to be the one who made it the biggest. Today, he is one of the most wanted stars in Malayalam besides enjoys a considerable fan following outside Kerala. On his 10th year in cinema, the star took to his social media handle to pen down a note of gratitude. His Facebook post reads,

It’s been 10 years since the day my first film #MalarvadiArtsClub hit the theatres.Even before I knew it, the most beautiful phase of my life in Cinema had begun. The last 10 years was never easy. It was a journey filled with a lot of emotion and most importantly determination to become an actor. Success comes with failures and I have seen that in the last 10 years. Remember, when you believe in yourself and work hard ,nothing in this world can stop you! There are so many people who shaped and made me what I am today. My directors starting with Vineeth who introduced me to the world of cinema, Alphonse gifting the magic wand and to every filmmaker who took all the efforts to bring the best out of me. Nivin Pauly was shooting for ‘Padavettu’ when the lockdown was announced. Directed by debutant Liju Krishna, the film has Nivin appearing in two different looks. For the first schedule, he had put on weight to look bulky. He is shedding weight for the next leg of shoot. The film also stars Aditi Balan of ‘Aruvi’ fame and Manju Warrier in major roles. Actor Sunny Wayne is producing the film.

Naan Un Joshua: Check out this new song from Gautham Menon’s Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha

Gautham Menon is currently working on ‘Joshua Imai Pol Kakka’ starring Varun of ‘Puppy’ fame in the lead. It is an action-thriller with a passionate love story at its core. Newcomer Raahei plays the female lead. First single from the film just got released online. The track titled ‘Naan Un Joshua’ is sung and composed by Karthik. Lyrics is penned by Vignesh Shivan.

From the teaser, we could make out that the film has Varun plays the titular character Joshua, a hitman who is entrusted with the duty of protecting Kundhavi Chidambaram, a high profile client. A bounty of 2 million US dollars has been placed on her. So she is under constant threat and Joshua’s sole purpose is to protect her. During their days together, the two fall in love.

It’s a very interesting storyline reminiscent of Hollywood action flick. From the promos so far, the film looks highly promising with its sleek visuals and stylish cuts. Varun has also peformed the action scenes with all the intensity and he looks quite convincing.

Shoot for ‘Joshua Imai Pol Kakka’ is still at the halfway stage. They were supposed to shoot some portions in the US but due the Covid-19 threat, Gautham Menon is now reworking the script. The film’s technical crew comprises of DOP SR Kathir, editor Antony and action choreographer Yannick Ben. Ishari Ganesh’s Vels International is producing the film.

Star kids entering the film industry is not a new thing in Indian cinema. In Malayalam, several star kids are making their presence felt in various departments of filmmaking. After his son Pranav’s glorious entry, superstar Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya is also set to foray into the industry. Just like her brother, Vismaya will also be starting off her journey in cinema as an assistant director.

It is learnt that she will be assisting her father in his directorial debut ‘Barroz’. Along with her, Keerthy Suresh’s sister Revathy will also be part of the team as an AD. Revathy had also assisted Priyadarshan in ‘Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham’.

After almost four decades of acting, Mohanlal is finally turning a director with ‘Barroz’, which is a highly ambitious fantasy film. Shoot was supposed to begin in June this year but due to the Covid-19 crisis, all plans had to be changed. Since it is a big scale film with several foreign actors in the cast, it will be impossible to shoot during this period. The makers will be hoping for the situation to get back to normalcy at the earliest.

‘Barroz’ is scripted by Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. Antony Perumbavoor is producing the film under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Of late, Sreenath Bhasi has been doing a wide variety of roles and thereby proving his naysayers wrong. His performances in films like ‘Virus’, ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, ‘Trance’ and ‘Kappela’ were all well received. The youngster is now being offered several interesting projects. He has signed a new film titled ‘Damayantiyum Sunandayum’, which is about a father-son relationship.

While Sreenath Bhasi plays the son’s part, actor Anil Nedumangad will be essaying the father’s role. The latter has done noteworthy roles in films like ‘Njan Steve Lopez’, ‘Kammattipaadam’, ‘Porinju Mariyam Jose’, ‘Paapam Cheyyathavar Kalleriyatte’ etc. His most acclaimed performance came in this year’s ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, in which he played the role of Circle Inspector Satheesh.

In ‘Damayantiyum Sunandayum’, Anil plays the character of a farmer who is against the idea of his son going out to find a job. He feels that the land is enough to provide the family a secure livelihood. It will be really interesting to see the on-screen chemistry of Anil and Bhasi as the father-son duo.

Debutant Harris Mannanchery will be directing the film. More details regarding the other cast and crew members are awaited.

‘Dil Bechara’ is set for direct release in Hotstar on July 24. The film has high expectations majorly due to the fact that it is Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film. Another reason to wait for the film is AR Rahman’s music. The makers had recently released the songs online and it met with fabulous response. As per popular opinion, it is the maestro’s most fun and delightful romantic album in years. A new video song from the film has just dropped in. The track titled ‘Taare Ginn’ is sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal.

‘Dil Bechara’ directed by Mukesh Chhabra is the official remake of the popular English film ‘The Fault In Our Stars’. The story is about two teens who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group. Sanjana Sanghi plays Kizie Basu, who struggles with terminal cancer and is hesitant of getting romantically involved with Immanuel Rajkumar Junior or Manny, played by Sushant. Saif Ali Khan will also be appearing in an extended cameo in the film.

As a mark of respect to Sushant, Hotstar has made the film available for both subscribers and non-subscribers.

Suriya to make his OTT debut with Mani Ratnam’s web series!

Netflix and Amazon Prime, argubaly the two leading OTTs in Indian market, are trying to carve a niche in the Tamil entertainment industry. While Netflix is already making a four-part anthology with honour killing as the theme, Amazon is coming up with a full fledged web series.

Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam will be headlining the project, which is said to be a 9-episode series. Along with Mani Ratnam, popular directors like Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren and Gautham Menon are also associated with it. Actors Arvind Swamy and Siddharath will also be making their directorial debut.

If latest reports are to be believed, Suriya will be making his entry to OTT space with this web series. His segment will be directed by Jayendra Panchapakesan of ‘180’ fame. Shoot will supposedly kick-start as soon as the lockdown ends and permissions are granted.

Apparently, the series is based on the Navarasas, the 9 human emotions. The nine emotions included in Navarasa are Shringara (love/beauty), Hasya (laughter), Karuna (sorrow), Raudra (anger), Veera (heroism/courage), Bhayanaka (terror/fear), Bibhatsya (disgust), Adbutha (surprise/wonder), and Shantha (peace or tranquility).

An official word is expected to be out soon.
