Recently, it was reported that Jyothika starrer ‘Ponmagal Vandhal’ will be releasing directly on Amazon Prime. The film’s trailer is now out on social medias. Directed by debutant JJ Fredrick, it is a female-centric film with Jyothika playing the role of an advocate for the first time in her career. The cast also includes veteran actors R Parthiben, K Bhagyaraj, Prathap Pothen, Pandiaraj and Thyagarajan.

‘Ponmagal Vanthal’ had triggered a controversy when reports first emerged that the makers were trying for direct OTT release. Since Suriya is the film’s producer, theatre owners in Tamil Nadu had called to boycott any film involving actor Suriya or his home production banner 2D Entertainment. However, with no news regarding when theatres will open, filmmakers are forced to find alternative ways. Many films from various regional industries have opted for release on streaming platforms and ‘Ponmagal Vandhal’ is probably the first mainstream film from Tamil to get a direct OTT release. It will be premiering on May 29.

Rana’s fiancée Miheeka, born and raised in Hyderabad, runs an interior design and decor business, Dew Drop Design Studio. She got her Masters degree in Interior Design from Chelsea University. She is also close friends with Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor and family. The couple has been dating for the last few years.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is celebrating his 60th birthday today. From newspapers to channels to social medias, wishes have been pouring in from all corners for one of Kerala’s biggest icons. Film personalities from across the country are wishing Mohanlal. Probably the best of all wishes has come from Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan. He has tweeted about how he envied Mohanlal’s consistent quality of work and how he enjoyed working with him.

Kamal’s tweet reads,

Dear Mr.@Mohanlal I liked you from your first film. I envied you for the constant quality of your work, that too with detractors lurking in every turn. I liked you even more when I worked with you. Long live my younger brother.

Though Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal have been close friends for decades, they have worked together in one only film so far, ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’. The film directed by Chakri Toleti was the official remake of acclaimed Hindi film ‘A Wednesday’. Kamal and Mohanlal reprised the roles played by Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher in the original.

Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn: It’s Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa magic all over again!

10 years after the release of ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’, the same team is back again, but this time with a 12-minute long short film. Titled as ‘Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn’, it has Simbu and Trisha reprising their respective roles of Karthik and Jessie. Gautham Menon has directed the film following all lockdown protocols and AR Rahman has scored the music.

The film begins with Karthik trying to work on a new script. He is struggling to pen down his thoughts and to find some solace, he calls Jessie. She has just returned back from US and is currently at her hometown with her family. She is now happily married with her husband and two kids. During their conversation, it is established that Karthik is worried about the future of his pending projects due to the Covid-19 scenario.

Though Jessie has moved on, Karthik is still not over her and pines for her love and her magical ability to inspire him. Jessie however makes it clear that she does not reciprocate similar feelings but considers Karthik like her third kid. She motivates him to concentrate on his script and not be worried about theatres opening as OTT platforms are on the rise.

On the performance front, Simbu and Trisha continue from what there they stopped in ‘VTV’ as they get the dialogue delivery spot-on. AR Rahman’s sensational music in ‘VTV’ had played a big factor in the film’s success and the legendary composer has managed to recreate the same magic once again. Gautham Menon has often said that he has plans to make a full-fledged sequel and hopefully, this is just a teaser of what is to come.

Aadujeevitham crew set to return home by a special flight!

After successfully wrapping up the schedule in Jordan, ‘Aadujeevitham’ crew is set to return back home. A special Air India flight has been arranged for their return. They will be reaching New Delhi from Jordan and then land in Kochi on 22nd. All 58-members including Prithviraj will have to be quarantined.

‘Aadujeevitham’ team left for Jordan in March this year. As the Covid-19 pandemic spread like wild fire worldwide, the team got stranded there. Curfew was enforced in the country and the team had to stop shooting halfway. Indian embassy officials and various other government bodies ensured that all their basic needs were met. It was only two weeks back that local authorities granted permission for shoot and they managed to wrap up the remaining portions in quick time.

‘Aadujeevitham’ directed by Blessy is based on the award winning novel of the same name by Benyamin. The film originally went on floors two years back in March 2018. Due to Prithviraj’s other commitments and the need for him to appear in various looks, shoot happened over multiple schedules. Prithviraj has lost close to 30 kilos to achieve a malnourished look for the film.

Mammootty to play a historic character yet again!

Malayalam superstar Mammootty is famous for his ability to portray historic characters. Some of his most memorable performances came in films like ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ and ‘Pazhassi Raja’. His fit physique, appealing voice and overall charisma all suits well while doing such characters. More recently, he played the role of a warrior in ‘Mamangam’.

As per latest reports, the superstar is set to play a historic character once again. This time he will be appearing as King Marthanda Varma. Director Hariharan is planning to make an ambitious film based on the life of Kunchan Nambiar. While Prithviraj will be playing the lead role of Kunchan Nambiar, Mammootty will be essaying an cameo role as Marthanda Varma. More details regarding the same are still awaited.

The film titled as ‘Kalakkathu Kunchan Nambiar’ is scripted by K Jayakumar and produced by Gokulam Films. It was supposed to be officially launched with a pooja ceremony on Vishu day but the makers had to drop their plans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the last few months, Kollywood medias have been reporting about Vijay Sethupathi and Kamal Haasan acting together in a new film. The duo had recently interacted with each other in a virtual interview in Instagram, which further strengthened the speculations. Latest reports suggest that the two stars are coming together for ‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’, a project Kamal had announced long back.

Interestingly, ‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’ is said to be the sequel to Kamal’s cult classic ‘Thevar Magan’. Most of the cast members including Vadivelu and Revathy will be retained. Vijay Sethupathi will reportedly be playing the role of Nasser’s son in the film. It must be remembered that Nasser essayed the villain role in ‘Thevar Magan’ and the film ends with his chararcter getting killed.

In ‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’, Vijay Sethupathi and Kamal will be locking horns with each other. AR Rahman has been signed to compose music and Kamal’s own production house Raaj Kamal Films International will be producing the film. Official announcement has not yet been made.

Reports about Prashanth Neel and Jr NTR teaming up have been doing the rounds for sometime and with this latest tweet, the news is almost confirmed. Telugu film industry’s leading production house Mythri Movie Makers will be producing this film.

Meanwhile, Prashanth Neel is busy working on the second installment of ‘KGF’. Almost 90% of shoot has been completed. Only 25 days of shoot still remain in which they will be filming two major action sequences. As announced earlier, the film is on track for release on October 23.

7 years after the record-breaking success of ‘Drishyam’, a second part for the film is set to be made. It’s Mohanlal’s birthday tomorrow (May 21) and on the special occasion, the film’s official announcement is expected to be out. Needless to say, expectation levels will be sky-high among the audience. The makers have a huge task ahead of them to come up with something that’s up to the range of the first part.

‘Drishyam’, a family-oriented thriller, was a huge blockbuster that went on to be remade in almost all major Indian languages. Jeethu Joseph has been working on the script for the second part for the last few years. We hear that ‘Drishyam 2’ will be the continuation of Georgekutty and family’s story. Most of the cast and crew members are likely to be retained.

Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph was most recently working on another film titled ‘Ram’. Due to the Covid-19 scenario and since the film needs to be shot abroad, the makers had to stall its shoot indefinitely. Works for ‘Ram’ will resume only when the virus threat is down in UK and Uzbekistan. In the meantime, ‘Drishyam 2’ will be completed. Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the sequel as well.

Before the lockdown, Jeethu Joseph was working on ‘Ram’ that had superstar Mohanlal in the lead. Due to the Covid-19 scenario and since the film needs to be shot abroad, the makers had to stall shoot indefinitely. Last week, the director had revealed about his plans to helm another film before resuming ‘Ram’. This has triggered speculations that the Mohanlal starrer has been shelved.

Jeethu Joseph has now come out clarifying that ‘Ram’ has not yet been dropped and will resume shoot as soon as the virus threat is down in UK and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, he will be starting works on a new film which will be shot completely in Kerala. The director’s Facebook post reads,

In the last two three days I have been getting calls and messages asking whether I have shelved my Mohanlal movie ‘RAM’ and planning another project. We had to stop the work of ‘RAM’ due to the spread of Covid Virus, but it will resume shoot once the virus threat is down in UK and Uzbekistan. Since kerala is one of the few places in the world where Corona has been controlled effectively, its likely to start the shoot early here. Considering this possibility, in the meantime I am thinking of a film which has its shoot entirely in kerala but this doesn’t mean in any way that I have abandoned the project ‘RAM’. It’s just being delayed due to the circumstances.
