Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran in Aashiq Abu’s Pennum Cherukkanum

Directors Aashiq Abu, Venu, Rajeev Ravi and Jay R Krishnan are coming together for an anthology flick that will have four female centric stories. Aashiq’s film titled as ‘Pennum Cherukkanum’ has Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran in the lead roles. Unni R has scripted the film, which is based on a popular short story.

Roshan Mathew is fresh from the success of ‘Moothon’, his performance in which was widely appreciated. Darshana Rajendran is noted for her roles in ‘Mayaanadhi’ and ‘Virus’, both directed by Aashiq Abu. Scriptwriter Benny P Nayarambalam, Nedumudi Venu, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Basil Joseph are also part of ‘Pennum Cherukkanum’. Shyju Khalid has done the cinematography. We hear that shoot has already been wrapped up.

Jay K, who previously made the horror-thriller ‘Ezra’ fame, has also completed the shoot of his film. Scripted by Santhosh Echikanam, the film is set in the 50s and has Samyuktha Menon and Joju George in the lead roles.

Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Venu’s segment in the anthology is based on Sahitya Akademi Award winning writer Uroob’s popular short story ‘Rachiyamma’. Parvathy and Asif Ali are playing the lead roles in it. Rajeev Ravi is likely to start works on his film only after the completion of ‘Thuramukham’.

Joju George-Nimisha Sajayan starrer ‘Chola’ got released in a good number of screens across Kerala yesterday (December 6). The film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, as expected, has opened to largely positive reviews. Meanwhile, the film’s Tamil version is also gearing up for release. Titled as ‘Alli’, the film’s first look poster got released by acclaimed filmmakers Pa Ranjith and Vetrimaaran.

Karthik Subbaraj is presenting the Tamil version under his new initiative Stone Bench Indie launched to support independent films. Karthik, in his Twitter handle, has written that ‘Alli’ is beautifully made heart wrenching thriller reflecting the events in our society. Along with releasing the first look poster, both Pa Ranjith and Vetrimaaran wished the team of ‘Alli’ luck.

Upon the release in Kerala, ‘Chola’ has met with good response so far. Along with Sanal’s excellent filmmaking, the performances of the lead actors, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and debutant Akhil Vishwanath, have been getting praise from all corners.

Earlier this year, ‘Chola’ had its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival. It is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at the prestigious festival.

Release date confirmed for Kunchacko Boban’s Anjaam Pathiraa

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ is Kunchacko Boban’s new film directed by Midhun Maneul Thomas. It is gearing up for release on January 10. The release date got officially announced just a while back through the film’s official social media handle. Touted to be a crime thriller, ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ has a talented set of actors and technicians.

It is director Midhun Manuel’s first attempt in doing a thriller film. All his other works have been limited to the fun and feel-good genre. His last release ‘Arengtinta Fans Kattoorkadavu’ (AFK) was a massive failure. So the director will be hoping return back to winning ways. Aashiq Usman, who produced AFK is backing this film as well.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ has Kunchacko Boban playing the role of a criminal psychologist named Anwar Hussain. The film has a big supporting cast comprising of Sharafudheen, Remya Nambeesan, Sreenath Bhasi, Indrans, Unnimaya Prasad and Jinu Joseph. On the technical front, Shyju Khalid is the cinematographer and Sushin Shyam is handling the music department. Saiju Sreedharan has been assigned as the editor.

Central Pictures will be releasing the film in Kerala.

It is not yet often that a film that does well in the festival circles get a proper theatrical release. But films like ‘Jallikkattu’, ‘Moothon’ and more recently ‘Chola’ are changing that trend. Joju George-Nimisha Sajayan starrer ‘Chola’ got released in a good number of screens across Kerala yesterday (December 6).

The film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, as expected, has opened to largely positive reviews. Along with Sanal’s excellent filmmaking, the performances of the lead actors, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and debutant Akhil Vishwanath, have been getting widespread appreciation.

‘Chola’ is said to be a dark thriller that revolves around a school going girl’s journey with a middle-aged man. Director Sanal has scripted the film jointly with KV Manikandan. Joju’s and Nimisha’s performance in the film were considered while honouring them with the State Awards last year. Sanal Kumar got a Special Jury Mention for direction as well as sound design.

Earlier this year, ‘Chola’ had its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival. It is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at the prestigious festival.

When the audio of ‘Rowdy Baby’ from the Dhanush-Sai Pallavi starrer ‘Maari 2’ got released online, it was an instant hit. The song became a chartbuster within no time. And when the official video was out, it became an even bigger sensation thanks to the lead pair’s stellar dance moves. Despite having an extraordinary dancer like Dhanush by her side, it was the graceful Sai Pallavi who grabbed all the attention. Dhanush and Dhee rendered the song, which was set to tunes by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Prabhu Deva did the dance choreography.

As the year comes to an end, ‘Rowdy Baby’ has become the most viewed music video in India in 2019. Last day, YouTube released the top 10 list of the ‘most viewed videos’. While it is placed at the first position in the Indian list, at the global level, it occupies the seventh slot. The list is headed by Daddy Yankee and Snow’s ‘Con Colma’.

The list of YouTube top trending music videos in India also features Dhvani Bhanushali’s ‘Vaaste’ ‘Coca Cola’ and ‘Dheeme Dheeme’ by Tony Kakkar, ‘Ve Maahi’ by Arijit Singh, and Punjabi hit numbers ‘Lehang’ and ‘Coka’.

It is already known that Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph are coming together once again for a new film, which is most likely to go on floors early next year. Expectations will be high since this is their reunion after the record-breaking success of ‘Drishyam’. While that film was an edge-of-the seat thriller, Jeethu Joseph plans to make an unusual mass entertainer this time.

In a recent interview he is quoted saying, “It is not definitely not another Drishyam. I’m planning to make it as a mass movie, through not in the so-called conventional style. It will be an action thriller with a realistic touch. The story is set in several countries which makes it a big budget film.”

Popular South Indian actress Trisha will be seen as Mohanlal’s wife in this film. Durga Krishna of ‘Vimaanam’ fame has reportedly been cast as Trisha’s sister. More details regarding the other cast and crew members will be announced shortly.

Though it was a costly miss, Antony is in no mood to slow down. He recently finished shooting for ‘Aanaparambile World Cup’ and is now working on Tinu Pappachan’s ‘Ajagajantharam’. More recently, the actor committed for a project with Shebin Becker, one of the producers of ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ (TMD).

Vineeth Vasudevan, a familiar name in the short film circles, is making his directorial debut with this film. It is scripted by Varun Dhara, also a newcomer. Along with Shebin, Girish AD, the director of ‘TMD’, is also involved in this upcoming film’s production. More details are expected to be officially announced soon.

Vineeth Vasudevan has made some noted short films like ‘Nilam’ and ‘Video Maranam’. His last work ‘Veli’ was an acclaimed one that got him the award for Best Film and Best Screenplay at this year’s FEFKA Short Film Festival. He was also chosen as the Best Director at the SIIMA Short Film Awards, 2019.

Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth have been close friends since their early days in cinema. When both the stars took the plunge to politics, it was expected that they both would eventually part ways due to their different ideologies. But of late, the duo have been showing great camaraderie. Rajinikanth had recently attended the inauguration of Kamal Haasan’s production house Raaj Kamal International’s new office building in Chennai. The superstar was also the chief guest at the Ungal Naan event, which was held as part of Kamal Haasan’s 60th year in the film industry.

Fresh set of rumours are doing the rounds in social medias suggesting that the two superstars are teaming up for a new project. As per these unconfirmed reports, Rajinikanth will be acting in a film under Kamal’s own production banner, Raaj Kamal Films International. Lokesh Kanagaraj, who made the recent blockbuster ‘Kaithi’ and is currently helming ‘Thalapathy 64’ is rumoured to be the director of this dream project.

It is said that Lokesh had recently met Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan separate and discussed about a new script. An official word regarding the same is still awaited.
