Venkat Prabhu and Raghava Lawrence to team up for the first time!
Director Venkat Prabhu has been lying low for sometime now. His last release was ‘Chennai 600028’, that came three years back in 2016. He then made a multi-starrer titled ‘Party’ but it is still under the wraps due to some financial issues. The director then announced ‘Maanaadu’, a political thriller with Simbu. However, the actor’s lack of cooperation forced the producer to call off the project. Later with the intervention from Simbu’s mother and multiple discussions, the project got revived and is scheduled to start rolling in January.
Meanwhile, Venkat Prabhu is set to team up with Raghava Lawrence for a new film. The director shared a photo of the two in his official social media handle and informed that a happy news will be out soon. Trade analysts have confirmed that Venkat Prabhu will soon be directing a mass entertainer with Raghava Lawrence. The latter is known for his brand of horror films and enjoys good popularity among the masses. Venkat Prabhu will be trying to cash in on this popularity and deliver a sensible entertainer. He is also in talks with web streaming platform Hotstar for a new series which will have Kajal Agarwal in the lead.

Sunny Wayne’s character poster from ‘My Santa’ has been released online. The actor plays a character named Eby Mathew in the film. This is his first outing with Dileep and it will be interesting to see them share screen space. The Sugeeth directorial is touted to be a full on fun entertainer. Debutant Jemin Cyriac has scripted the film which has Dileep and a 7-year-old girl kid in major roles.
‘My Santa’ has an interesting subject and Dileep has pinned high hopes on it. In a recent interview with us, he had revealed that he plays a Santa Claus in the film. Anusree plays the female lead. It is her second film with Dileep after ‘Chandrettan Evideya’.

Thalapathy 65: Vetrimaaran narrates a script to Vijay!
Even before the completion of ‘Thalapathy 64’, talks about Vijay’s next has started surfacing online. Fans are very eager to see which director Vijay will be teaming up with next. Magizh Thirumeni, Mohan Raja and Atlee were some of the names that were doing the rounds. But over the last few days, it is being speculated that ace filmmaker Vetrimaaran is planning to make a film with Vijay.
It is learnt that the director met Vijay recently and narrated a script. As per reports, their discussion seems to have ended on a positive note and there are high chances for the project turning out to be ‘Thalapathy 65’. Fans and industry insiders are eagerly waiting for an official confirmation.
After the humungous success of ‘Bigil’, Vijay was expected to work with top directors again. But the star has taken a conscious decision to concentrate on sensible, content-oriented films. Teaming up with the two-film old Lokesh Kanagaraj was a result of that decision. Shoot for their film is still at the halfway stage. It is planned as a summer release in April 2020
Dulquer Salmaan is currently producing five films!!
Dulquer Salmaan forayed into production only recently but already has five films lined up. His banner Wayfarer Films is currently involved in the production of ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’, ‘Kurup’ and Anoop Sathyan’s multi-starrer film. Dulquer’s cop flick with Rosshan Andrrews and political film with Joy Mathew are the two other projects coming up.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ starring Jacob Gregory in the lead is Dulquer’s maiden production venture. The film has ‘Premam’ fame Anupama Parameswaran, Anu Sithara, Shritha Sivadas, Nayana Elza, Krishna Shankar and many others are part of the cast. A bunch of newcomers are part of the film, which includes its director, scriptwriter, DOP and composer. Shamsu Zayba is directing the film and is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan. The film has cinematography by Sajad Kakku, music composed by Sreehari K Nair and edits by Appu N Bhattathiri.

‘Kurup’ is one of the biggest Malayalam films in the making currently. Srinath Rajendran of ‘Second Show’ fame is directing the film, which is based on the life of Kerala’s infamous criminal, Sukumara Kurup. While Dulquer Salmaan essays the titular role, the cast also includes other big names like Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala and Shine Tom Chacko. It is most likely to release next May during the Eid season.

Anoop Sathyan’s film is a family entertainer with a dream star cast. Shobhana, Urvashi, Suresh Gopi, Dulquer and Kalyani Priyadarshan play major roles in the film. Shoot is still progressing and the film is expected to hit screens early next year.

As informed earlier, Joy Mathew’s sophomore directorial is with Dulquer in the lead. It is a political film that will have the star treading an entirely new terrain. Joy Mathew has assured that Dulquer’s character in the film is completely in contrast to his usual roles. He firmly believes that Dulquer will make a mark at the national level with this film. There are also talks about the actor playing a politician’s role in the film but it is yet to be confirmed. Pre-production works are still progressing and shoot is planned to commence by January.

Dulquer Salmaan’s cop film with Rosshan Andrrews is set to begin in April. National award winning writer duo Bobby-Sanjay is scripting this film, which is yet to be titled. The writer-director duo had previously done a cop film ‘Mumbai Police’, that wasn’t anything like seen before in Malayalam cinema. So expectations will definitely be high this time. Though Dulquer had appeared as police officer briefly in ‘Vikramadithyan’, this will be his first attempt in essaying a full length cop role.
Joju George-Nimisha Sajayan starrer ‘Chola’ is all set to hit screens tomorrow (December 6). Prior to that, the makers have released a new song online. Manju Warrier shared the song through her official social media handle.
‘Chola’ directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and debutant Akhil Vishwanath in the lead roles. Earlier this year, the film had its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival. It was only the third Malayalam film to be screened there.
‘Chola’ is said to be a dark thriller that revolves around a school going girl’s journey with a middle-aged man. Director Sanal has scripted it jointly with KV Manikandan. Both Joju’s and Nimisha’s performance in the film were considered while honouring them with the State awards last year. Sanal Kumar also got a Special Jury Mention for direction as well as sound design.
Popular Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is also associated with the production of ‘Chola’. The film is releasing in Tamil as ‘Alli’.
Queen: Here’s the trailer of Gautham Menon’s maiden web series!
As reported by us earlier, an MX Player is coming up with a new web series titled ‘Queen’. The series is actually based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa but the makers have not retained any of the names. The story travels through three timelines starting from her childhood, to her acting career and then to her rise as a political leader. While Anikha Surendran of ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ fame plays the school days, Anjana Jayaprakash does the actor’s part. Ramya Krishnan appears as the political leader.
‘Queen’ is being directed by two directors – Gautham Vasudev Menon and Prasath Murugesan of ‘Kidaari’ fame. GVM has shot the portions featuring Ramya Krishnan and Murugesan has shot the childhood portions with Anikha Surendran. Malayali actor Indrajith Sukumaran has done an important role, which is based on legendary actor-CM MGR.
Reshma Ghatala, an associate of Gautham Menon has penned the series. It will be releasing in four regional Indian languages – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Bengali. is scheduled to start streaming on December 14.
Amazon Prime bags Thalapathy 64 streaming rights for a record price!
‘Thalapthy 64’ shoot has just reached the halfway stage but the film is already much in demand in the trade circles. Even before the title and first look release, the film’s satellite rights was bagged by Sun TV for a whopping amount. Likewise, Kerala distribution rights have been acquired by Fortune Films for Rs 6 crore. The massive success of Vijay’s last release ‘Bigil’ is one of the prime reasons for the rights being purchased for such a huge amount.
More recently, Amazon Prime bought the streaming rights of ‘Thalapathy 64’. Though the exact amount has not yet been disclosed, the deal was signed for a record amount — highest ever for a Tamil film. Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai confirmed the same by tweeting,

Recently, the film’s satellite rights were bagged by market leader Sun TV for a record price. The latest we hear is that the film’s Kerala distribution rights have been acquired by Shafeel of Fortune Films for Rs 6 crore. The massive success of Vijay’s last release ‘Bigil’ is one of the prime reasons for the rights being purchased for such a high amount.
‘Thalapathy 64’ has Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist. ‘Kaithi’ fame Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu, Gouri Kishan, Ramya Subramanian and many others are part of the cast. The team recently wrapped up the schedule in New Delhi and will be next shooting in Shimoga, Karnataka. They are planning to shoot there for over a month from December 1 to January 19.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has assured that this film will be totally different from Vijay’s regular mass masala entertainers. Lokesh has scripted it with additional screenplay by Pon Parthiban and ‘Aadai’ director Rathna Kumar. Vijay is said to be playing the role of a college professor with an untold dark side.
On the technical front, music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography is by Sathyan Sooryan. Xavier Britto is producing the film, which is scheduled for summer release in 2020.
The trailer of Manju Warrier’s new film ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ was released on December 1 and got great response from the viewers. The trailer gives vibes of a thriller and Manju’s mass act in it has been received well. In YouTube, the trailer has fetched over one million views, which is huge considering it is a heroine centric film.
‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and scripted by Unni R. The film has Manju Warrier and Ansuree as sales girls working in a textile shop. Director Rosshan Andrrews is making his acting debut with this film. He is playing a negative character named Antappan. ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ fame Grace Antony, Saiju Kurup, Alencier Ley Lopez and ‘Marimayam’ Sreekumar are also part of the cast.
G Balamurugan is the cinematographer and Gopi Sunder is handling the music department. Veteran Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The film is being produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films. It is confirmed to hit screens on December 20.
Shoot for Dhanush’s new film ‘Pattas’ has been wrapped up. The film is directed by RS Durai Senthil Kumar, with whom Dhanush has previously worked in ‘Kodi’. The star had also produced the director’s debut film ‘Ethir Neechal’, which had Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. ‘Pattas’ has Sneha and Mehreen Pirzada as the female leads. It is Sneha’s second outing with Dhanush after the 2006 cult film ‘Puthupettai’.
‘Pattas’ is expected to be like a colorful mass entertainer. Dhanush sports a very young look in the film. Reports suggest that he plays a 19-year-old but it is yet to be confirmed. The movie has music composed by the talented Vivek-Merwin duo and cinematography by Om Prakash. Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan are jointly producing the movie under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films.
It’s a wrap for Dhanush starrer Pattas
Dhanush’s recently released ‘Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta’ had opened to mixed response, though his performance has been widely appreciated. He has already wrapped up shooting for Karthik Subbaraj’s gangster film. The star has also committed for new projects with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame Maari Selvaraj and ‘Ratchasan’ fame Ramkumar.
